I don't eat out much lately but when I do, I think of Paris Banh Mi. I will usually order myself a classic combination or a pork roll/pate sandwhich. I love extra mayo and appreciate that there's no extra charge. This is probably one of the best sandwhich deals in town. The Sandwhiches are always filled well, and i am consistently full after finishing one of their sandwhiches. Ambience of the place is always pleasant, and noticeably less busy compared to the first weeks of opening. No. Just no. Both the service and food are bad. The kiosk to order is too sensitive and unresponsive. Scrolling selects an unwanted item wherever your finger happens to be and after several annoying times of this... The front staff were watching a video on a tablet. I paused a moment and said hello but they still didn't acknowledge me. It was another moment before they realized I was there and looked up from the video. They seemed irritated that I had interrupted their viewing. The food was awful. I regretted it the moment I opened the container and saw the food, the moment I tasted it, the moments chewing it, and again afterwards. I ordered a pate chaud and shrimp spring rolls. The chaud is like a stuffed puff pastry. The pastry itself was acceptable though the meatball type filling was unevenly distributed and salty. The shrimp spring rolls. Oh, dear. These were the worst spring rolls I've had. Ever. The Trader Joe's spring rolls from the other side of the parking lot are better than this. First, the flavor, then, the texture... The spring rolls lacked any remarkable flavor. The more I chewed, and there was a lot of chewing, the less flavor there was until it was gone. The spring rolls were so chewy. They were ridiculously chewy. It was like chewing mochi but exponentially chewier. I chewed and chewed and chewed and chewed, and tried to swallow but it apparently wasn't chewed enough so it got stuck in my throat which made me gag so the food came back up, and so I chewed some more but then all the flavor was gone. What the hell. Was I chewing plastic? I felt like one of the cows or llamas on campus chewing their cud. This is not normal. Good spring rolls should not be like this. How can they serve this garbage? The decor was too kitchy, over the top. I don't understand the fluffy feather things seen here and at other Asian places. Avoid this place. Go elsewhere. And if you still have doubts and want to be stupid, check other reviews consistent with this. You've been warned. And they don't seem to care. read more

I consider this place to be a 3.5, but will bump it up because I feel like it's a Davis 4. I came by here months ago soon after it's opening to get banh mi with friends and found it to be a little disappointing. I promised I would come back after they had some time to establish to leave a proper review. I ordered the banh mi dac biet and roasted pork spring rolls. I noticed that they changed the filling for this particular sandwich, where it used to be pork roll (cha lua) and roast pork (thit nuong). They've changed it now to be barbecue pork instead of roast pork, which I think is the right move. I got my sandwich toasted and without pate. I found that the sandwich tasted much better than last time. It was much more solidly constructed and has a decent filling of meat to vegetables, though I feel like there were a lot of pickles in the sandwich. The bread, however, is not my favorite. It kind of reminds me of Lee's sandwiches, where they have that kind of soft long baguette that isn't super fluffy. If you're looking for the traditional bread experience where the outside is crispy, but light and the inside is fluffy like air, you're not gonna get it here. You have to go to Duc Huong in south Sac for that. But, if you have an itch for a banh mi, the flavors work. There's no other place to get it in Davis, but this is pretty OK. The spring rolls are interesting. They remind me of something that I would make at home. I will say that there is a decent amount of meat in them, but the vegetables are lacking. I acknowledge that this is a Vietnamese restaurant in a college town so they're probably not gonna go crazy and include the more traditional herbs that you would get in Vietnamese food, but it did make me a little fat to just get lettuce and cilantro that being said, I ate it all so I can't really complain lol The store itself is very pretty, I have to admit. I like an ordering kiosk, though their system can get a little overwhelming when trying to make modifications to sandwiches because of the way they set up the modification menu. Can't speak too much on staff since interaction is really minimal. The person who made my sandwich put it out first and I stood there. Not sure if my spring rolls we're gonna be out soon. Came to Paris Banh Mi for a late afternoon meal after a day of exploring downtown Davis. This shop is located in a shopping plaza on the corner of a large open courtyard. It was a hub for college kids to hang out and chill after school. The inside is bright with lots of seating (inside and outside). Another new food option at The Davis Collection! I was just passing by and happened to notice their grand opening. I quickly got in line for the kiosk and tried a few things from their menu. Oh, and there's a promotion for 10% off this weekend. I got the special combination but instead of the usual baguette, I tried it with a croissant. One thing to note is that you have to grab your own utensils, as they are not brought out with the food. Unfortunately, the pho broth lacked depth and richness, and I had to add quite a bit of sauce to boost the flavor. There were not enough sauce trays available, so I had to wait until someone else was finished using theirs. I also wished there was chili oil available to add some heat to the dish. The noodles themselves were fine, and there was a good amount of them. The meat, however, was quite tough, and the rib did not have much meat on it, which was disappointing given the price. Overall, I found this place a bit underwhelming, especially compared to other pho spots in Davis like Sit Lo Saigon. We've been to Paris Bahn Mi twice now and we appreciated both experiences. We've tried the chicken pho, special pho, combination special Bahn mi, chicken Bahn mi, egg rolls, and Beef Pate Chaud. The pho broth was flavorful, I didn't feel the need to add anything to it. The special pho only comes in large but the meat portion was very generous, it was worth it. The chicken pho was also good but the amount of noodles in it was rather superfluous--the noodle to broth ratio could've been better. My husband had the Bahn Mi (combo and chicken). He said the combo Bahn mi had a savory sauce but the chicken Bahn mi was just okay and didn't leave an impression. Meanwhile, our toddler had the egg rolls and the beef meat pie and he seemed to have enjoyed both! It was packed the first time we went but we were served our meals quickly. The people working there are super nice and very accommodating. I should have gotten a banh mi, but I was in the mood for pho so had the meatball pho with regular noodles (you can upgrade to fresh noodles for $1, which I guess are thicker and better) and a pate chaud. The pho was okay, just very forgettable. The broth tasted like it was from an instant mix, which is fine but I can do that at home for a lot less than $16. But that's what I get for ordering pho at a sandwich place. It was a little better with a ton of basil, lime, and sriracha. The pate chaud pastry was very good and flaky, but I didn't love the pate itself. The filling made me think of a pork-and-liver meatball. It probably would have been better heated up. I ended up removing half the filling and finishing the pastry. The ambiance was fine. I would have preferred if the music was a bit lower so you could have a conversation at a normal volume because I'm a Very Old. First bite, we were shocked to find that the grilled pork was cold as well as very dry in both the sandwich and bowl. The noodles were also cold and hard as if they were previously refrigerated and the sauce was tasteless and not enough to flavor the noodles although it may be the noodles being hard prevented absorption so there was just no flavor at all. The egg roll in the bowl was also not what I'm used to. It was more like the panda express egg rolls or jack in the box egg roll, not the crispy thin wrapper that is usually used for Vietnamese eggrolls. The kiosk was easy to use and allowed you to customize your order easily, and the restaurant was clean but spending $30 on 2 items that were almost inedible was very disappointing. Went to their grand opening with some friends for brunch. The decor is cute, restrooms were clean and fancy (real tiles on the wall & soft close trash can), and has a good amount of seating indoors and outside. We ordered several banh mis, tea, coffee, macarons, and a mini ube cheesecake. The Vietnamese coffee was delicious and larger than expected and helped me wake up. It paired nicely with the cheesecake, which I will come back for if it's available. Staff was nice and friendly. It's super close to the dorms and campus. I walked into the store and I was in AWE at decoration. I really liked all the greenery around the store and the hanging lights.
