BURGER IS NOT IN THIS REVIEW! Fries were good crispy Onion rings were normal Fried chicken sandwich was bad and could not finish it Hot dog extremely salty and very hard to finish Overall: person at the register was very nice and gave us ranch and water cups when asked. Sides are good but not worth it. Hot dog and fried chicken sandwich are not good. The restaurant was nice and clean. Based on the food, I would not come here again.
The restaurant does feel like a wilderness outpost. Everything is wood or faux wood. Attached to the restaurant is the Parkside Sports Bar. You can order 2 ways onsite. At the register or at 1 of 2 kiosks. There is plenty of inside seating with a small outdoors patio dining area. We ordered: Lemon/Pepper Wings (Large $18.99) - really crispy and juicy. Good size wings. Good flavor. We got ours with Ranch... note, the dressing was a bit on the watery side. Crispy onion ($6.99) - extremely crispy crust... cannot even taste the onion. If you like fried batter, this is for you. Goes well with the Ranch dressing. I got the chili onion burger ($11.99). Messy as heck...decided to go the civilized route... ate it with a knife and for...saving the top bun to mop up any leftover chili. Love the raw white onions and cheese on top. Good flavor, bean to beef ratio is pretty good. Bathrooms are located past the video games... mens room on the right and women's room to the left. Men's room had only 1 sink/ 2 urinals and 2 stalls. They were out of soap when we were there. Room was spacious and clean. The restrooms appeared to be shared by both the bar and restaurant.
First off, when I went to pick up my order, the expo guy almost gave me someone else's order. Then he gives me my order. I drive home and get home to see I was shorted fries. Ordered 3 burgers and 3 fries. Only got 3 burger and 2 fries. That expo guy needs to do better. Super disappointed in outpost burger. I could understand if it was out the door busy, but there was nobody in the store sitting and eating. It's always dead inside, maybe this is my sign.
When you're craving a smash burger, outpost burger is the place to be! We could pretty much eat this everyday! You walk in and there's kiosks to the right to take your order and also you could order at the front. There's plenty of space to sit inside and outside and it's also connected to the bar (so it's a must to go to on game day)! I'm not too much of an onion fan but I understand it's a staple in the smash burger. The onions are nicely grilled and not too overwhelming for someone who's not into onion. I try to divert from the original but I think the original smash is the best. The party is just so nicely seasoned and the cheese is melted to perfection! We've tried the chicken strips and realized it was overly breaded for our liking. They have steak fries and if you need more seasoning, they have Cajun seasoning and chili for extras. Overall comes here and get your smash burgers!!
Better than In-N-Out, post. After a day a nearby pumpkin patch our group was hungry for some burgers and stumbled upon Outpost after a quick Yelp search and wow what a find! Scanning their standard menu a couple times I landed on choosing their Special menu item their "Grudge Match Smash" (see photo for details) -- long story short, Corn Flake bartered cheese patty in a smash burger and I'm not exaggerating when I say it might be the best burger I've had in a long time. Patty was flavorful and had a nice little crunch on the edges that I personally look for in a smash burger. Whatever their burger sauce is too was on point. Side story: owner of the restaurant was on the show Grudge Match and actually won -- this burger was from the show. Staff was super friendly and even put on the show on their tv for us to watch while we ate -- great service! Now knowing that this place exists gives us an excuse to come out to Davis once in awhile -- maybe more often now.
VEGETARIAN BEYOND PATTY SUBSTITUTE AVAILABLE! This place was bomb, great onion rings, infinite customization options, super unique specials, and a slamming smash burger. Service was friendly and gave me extra ranch. Interior is spacious and clean. I inhaled two deluxe burgers and even craved a third!
We ordered takeout (via their website) at around 5pm on a Tuesday evening. The food was ready just shortly after given that it was pretty empty inside. There was plenty of indoor seating, equipped with TVs playing sports and ceiling fans. There were also a few table outside in the patio area with umbrellas. The decor down to the pillars within the restaurant were painted to resemble trees with raccoons living inside them. It was a nice detail to demonstrate the "outpost-rustic" vibes. The burgers were pretty solid. We got the double onion smash and the bacon avo smash burgers. The images made them seem like they were smaller-sized, comparable to shake shack, so we ordered the double in case. However, to our surprise, the burgers were pretty hefty, filling and yummy. Our favorite was the onion smash burger. It fulfilled the foundational standards of a good burger, PLUS grilled onions! It was quite heavy, and would recommend the single patty version if you want to try their other burgers as well. We felt that their bacon avo burger was just alright. It definitely had all of the contents, but it just didn't have the same cohesiveness between all of the elements. From my recollection, the avocados were sliced rather than mashed. I may have preferred them to be mashed and then better integrated to each bite uniformly. BUT this is kind of a personal preference. By the way, the buns were PRETTY TASTY. I believe it was a potato bun, which was fluffy and had a nice chew (hard to explain but just know I was a fan of it!) Just asking around the UC Davis locals and they had never heard of the place. I would definitely recommend this place to try. Treat yourself out to a family-owned business! I thought the burgers had great value, given the portions and quality!

High five to Ryan and being cool about my million questions. -fries were made in changed out oil / oil pit from their chicken today (Sunday) -gluten sensitive folks, they take precautions, will wipe down surface before prepping your food -they cook buns and grilled cheese on opposite side of grill Thank goodness for a top notch, inexpensive burger joint where the lines aren't wrapped around blocks. Here they have plenty of parkin a nice outside patio, clean indoor sitting, homemade lemonade, STEAK FRIES (my fave), onion rings where the onion stays in its shell, burgers that aren't picture perfect for instagram but it has that real homemade energy, little uneven and maybe not the prettiest but you know it's about to slap.
Fast service, lots of space. They have beers on tap. Smash burgers were huge! Just one smash for a ~170# dude got me full. I really wanted to eat another one but I'd be dying after. I think the patties were very juicy and the burgers. I personally do like my smash patties a little more flattened and crispy. Sauce was great, might ask for it on the side or ask for lite just so I can control how much is on it. Same thing with pickles, nice and refreshing but might ask for it on the side so I'm not getting it on every bite... I personally like to eat the pickles every few bites so it helps cut the juicy and delicious savoriness of the burger. All in all, solid spot.
This cute burger spot, themed after a national forest, is next to a bar. You can order by scanning your QR code. I was so hungry that I didn't even take a pic before devouring my smash burger. The burger was great, and the thick-cut fries were a nice side. They also have other types of burgers and sides. I'll definitely be back if I ever find myself in the Davis area.
We visited outpost again to try some of their famous burgers and we're weren't disappointed. The burgers are delicious and flavorful. The service was great and they are again open to offer suggestions on what you might be interested in trying. I prefer the plain thick cut fries over the chili fries because I didn't realize they would be so cheesy however overall good food!
Food: 7/10 Service: 8/10 Ambiance :9/10 My husband rated the food 10/10. For me the cheese and sauce was A LOT and overpowered the smash onion patty. I loved that the fries and onion rings were the perfect crisp. Every fry was perfectly crisp and soft inside.
The smash burgers here are so solid. They do smash burgers right: onions are done very well, the crisp on the patty, the soft bun, not overwhelmingly large/impossible to eat. I really can't recommend this place more for burger fans. Chili is alright, in my opinion, but it's very meaty. Fries are steak fries and done quite well. The service is always great. The staff are friendly and (when it's not super crowded), are really good about getting you your order. I remember when this location was a Taiwanese restaurant and another restaurant before Outpost came. I will say, the existing layout works really well for the restaurant. I highly recommend this place!
Came in for a Sunday lunch. Seemed pretty empty although I'm assuming it usually gets busier during the dinner rush. Had the games on TV. Pretty good selection of dogs, burgers, and chicken dishes. Went with a double grilled onion deluxe. The burger was for sure the highlight for me. Not a huge fan of the fried but they solid if you like that type of cut. The bun and lettuce are what sets this burger aside from other smash burgers around. Would get again if I find myself in Davis. read more
Finally got to try this place out. Boyfriend and I wanted to share a Deluxe Onion Smash. Cashier gave us two drink cups, that was nice. For a Saturday afternoon, it was not busy at all. Maybe one or two other customers. Plenty of seating available for both small and bigger groups. The burger itself was pretty small. The patty was very thin and smashed looking. Interesting concept. The patty had that smoky grilled flavor. Good burger, but nothing special. Steak fries were also nothing special. Topped with sea salt. For the price and location (right next to Parkside), I'd say it's convenient for college kids. However, nothing tops Burgers and Brews or Froggy's if you want that gourmet burger and variety. But for a simple burger that's not McDonald's this will do. Would have liked them to expand on their theme though. Burgers with park names and little toothpick posts on the burger... etc... missed opportunity! Would I come back? Well I don't see myself craving a burger from here in the future. If I was craving a burger, I'd much rather go down the street to B&B where service is also better quality. read more
Great addition to the Davis burger scene. Roomy great atmosphere inside the restaurant, good value for price, and yummy food! Definitely worth a visit! I will be back. Food: they serve burgers, hotdogs, fries, chicken sandwiches, and chili. I think this the only place in Davis that specializes in smash burgers. I got the deluxe smash burger (8.99) with an extra patty (2.99). It had a great classic burger taste and definitely hit the spot. The Nashville Hot Hoagie had a nice spicy kick but not super spicy. The meat was surprisingly juicy for how thick of a piece of meat it was. The chili was really nice and hearty, nice for a colder winter day. Fries were thick cut but still had a good crispiness to them. Service: very friendly and answered all questions. You can either order at the front and wait for your food to be called (via text) or order at a kiosk near the entrance. Atmosphere: the indoor atmosphere feels a bit like a cabin or outpost in the wilderness. The restaurant was very clean and felt open. There's a few arcade machines along the side. read more

I ordered a bbq bacon smash burger on doordash and it was a solid 7/10. The flavor was good but buns didn't seem toasted... kinda too soft. BBQ and caramelized onions were bomb tho. Chili cheese fries on the other hand was a 4/10. I didn't like the chili- it tasted sweet?? and just brown in color. I don't know if that's js a different style of chili but I prob wouldn't get it again. I like that they send out drinks with tamper proof seals. read more

A new burger place in Davis! Also has chicken sandwiches and hotdogs too. Fries (steak cut fries with salt flakes) is a must, really fresh and tasty! Ordered a deluxe smash burger and fries online to pickup. My pickup order was pretty fast and had good service. The deluxe is smashed onion burger which is a great size, good ratio of meat, tomatoes and lettuce. The restaurant looks like a cabin, ample of space inside with some arcade games. read more
Ok I have tried this place twice! The first time we had it delivered and I tried the bbq bacon smash, the burger was good.. it was easy to eat not too greasy and had good flavor. The bacon was good, cooked perfectly not too wiggly lol! The seasoned fries were delicious! Today we went into the restaurant and I tried the Nashville chicken sandwich- it had a little kick (and I do mean little) this sandwich was super tasty, the chicken was perfect and the spices in the sauce were very good. Overall I would totally come back for more! - and honestly I think I'd go with the chicken sandwich over the smash- I think you get more chicken then you do beef, and flavor I think the chicken was on point! read more

Pretty good burger joint. Theres a few tables for dining in as well as arcades to play. We arrived and saw a kiosk available to order the food. The smash burgers we had was very juicy and seasoned to perfection. Tried out their smash fries and hot dog and was impressed. Definitely would come back here again on a future visit. read more

Great addition to Davis. It's attached to Parkside spots bar. I actually thought the burger was pretty good because of the smashed style patty. It also makes it easier to eat. We got the zesty bacon onion smash, bacon cheese fries, and cup of chili. The bacon and sauce on the burger made it pretty tasty. Fries were interesting. They put a little salsa on top which gave it a little kick. They have some arcades and claw machines in the back for some entertainment. I'll come back. read more
Smash burgers have easily become my favorite type of burger. Their burgers are really good and taste super fresh. The service was helpful and advised their favorite order. With that said, I tried their deluxe onion burger with no pickles. It was FIRE. They have a similar sauce to in-n-out in their burgers, which I looooove. Their fries are also steak fries and thick cut. They were thick, but cooked perfectly and seasoned correctly (not too salty). They also provided ranch when I asked cus that's the best dip for fries. I'd love to come here again cus it's pretty close by and I haven't found any good smash burgers in the area. read more

Was really craving a burger for the past week so I stopped by! You either go up to the front to order or there's a little kiosk. I ordered the deluxe onion smashburger and a side of plain steak cut fries. Fries-On their own, a bit too salty for my tastes and not too much other flavor. They were very crispy and warm, and quite good when dipped in ranch. Burger-Perfectly good burger that hit the spot. Sauce is nice, there's a nice balance of vegetables and meat, and I really like how the bread bun tastes. Overall not a blow-your-mind burger but for it's price point, it's very reasonable. Definitely a place I would like to come back to, I think for around $14 plus tip it's not bad. I'd like to try their chili items! read more

This unique burger establishment was a fabulous surprise to me. As a marketing professional, the restaurant's logo caught my eye because it looks like the logo that you would find used by the California State Park System. The onion smash burger was a fabulous taste for me because it reminded me of how the national chain Smashburger uses fresh ingredients in their burgers. In addition, the ability for a consumer to "add or subtract" ingredients on top of the burger patty keeps this restaurant in compliance with other micro-burger restaurants. As a reviewer of local restaurants, I use a Romanesque rating system so with that disclaimer, I would give Outpost Burger 5 stars for its Breads and 4.5 stars for its Circuses! As an added + from a marketing standpoint, success of a restaurant is how they handle the small details that help support their business brand. Outpost Burger uses a thicker than normal paper bag that is greatly appreciated by this reviewer. I would imagine that the reason why these thicker paper bags are used is because if the paper bag was thinner, the juices from their burgers so seep through the bag. read more

We ordered online for pickup, and the process was quite smooth, with the bag being ready as soon as we arrived. The interior is incredibly spacious, with much more seating that I would have expected. The food itself is pretty on par with any other fast food you can get around Davis, and their onion smash patty is definitely the best part. The burger is a bit messy, since the bun isn't cut entirely in half, but that has never been a problem for me with burgers! Unfortunately they forgot to put the lettuce and tomatoes on my deluxe burger, so I paid an extra dollar for just a plain onion smash burger. The impossible patty was good though! My partner and I agreed that the chili fries were the best part of the meal - large wedge cut fries with ample amounts of cheese and chili. The burgers were also pretty small, so the addition of the fires was needed for us to feel full. Overall I didn't find too much about our order that we couldn't gotten for cheaper at a fast food restaurant, but we enjoyed the meal and the service! I can imagine this would be the perfect place to visit after a night at Parkside, or for a quick lunch stop! read more
Saw this new burger spot while driving around Davis and thought I would check it out. I haven't had a smashed burger in a while and the way they do them here didn't disappoint. I had the BBQ bacon smash and wow hella bomb. I'm def coming back here for the burgers. Also a little fyi there is a bar next door and you can get a beer from over there and bring it into outpost burger and also you can take food over to the bar. Outpost burgers seems to be great for large parties and family. They have a few arcade games to play. read more

So this is my new favorite burger place! Clean and spacious dining area with lots of seating, outdoor patio, and delicious food. Burgers - These are labeled as "onion smash" or whatever, but you can get without onions if you prefer a standard smash burger (like me). The meat was DELICIOUS, comparable in quality to Shake Shack. I saw another review that complained about the bun, but those people are taking crazy pills. Fries - Big, crispy, salty steak fries. Exactly what you want out of a bag of fries. Customer service - The person who helped me was incredibly knowledgeable, had a great attitude, and went above and beyond. read more

This food my goodness, where do I start? The smash burgers they're just amazing! The patty is grilled to perfection and don't get me started on the quality of the meat, its incredible! Service amazing as usual though there is a little wait but I don't mind because the food is just that good. Always a blessing to come dine and eat here! read more
