What I ordered: -La loma Combo [5/5] -Grilled Fajita- Mixed Grill [5/5] _ This was my first time visiting Denver, and I was on the hunt for some good green chile to try! After reading several recommendations, we decided to check out La Loma--and it did not disappoint. It was easily one of the best meals we had during the trip. We came during happy hour, and my partner and I enjoyed a margarita as well as the La Loma combo sampler to try a variety of appetizers. We also shared the fajita mixed grill plate, and despite not being heavy eaters, the portion was generous enough for us both. The complimentary chips and salsa were delicious as well. Our server was incredibly friendly, checking in regularly, which I really appreciated. The atmosphere was great, with options for table, bar, and outdoor seating. I highly recommend trying this restaurant if you're in Denver, and I'll definitely be back! read more

Simply incredible. This place is a must try. Inside puts you in an upscale cantina on the Baja coast. Beautiful with great music. The staff could not be more friendly and attentive. And the food is amazing. I got the mixed grill fajitas. First this is an insane amount of food. The shrimp were the size of my hand. The beef is full of flavor. Now let me give special attention to their homemade flour tortillas and green chilie. This tortillas are perfectly fully and come piping hot. And that green chilie would make any New Mexican proud. I'll be thinking about that green chilie for a hot minute. So glad I came here and I'll be back for sure. read more

I came here by myself and ate at the bar. The restaurant was pretty open and busy but the bartender was very nice, attentive, and food came out quickly. I will say that the description of their green chile sauce did not mention it was a pork based sauce so it was pretty disappointing when I realized that. I had to default to the fish tacos which were pretty bland and expensive. The only things that had great flavor are the chips and salsa and the drink. read more

My favorite for many years are as follows steak fajitas, relleno appetizers, amazing chips & salsa , fried ice cream . Margaritas are decent but very expensive! Great happy hour !!! I loved this Mexican spot downtown! I could tell just by walking in that I was going to like this place; the vibes were great. We had the best waiter, who brought us a free sample of green chile/warm tortillas right when we sat down. He was extremely friendly which made the experience all the better. I got the fish tacos, which were delicious. I will say if you have allergies make that VERY clear because the waiter forgot mine. The ONLY thing that's not ideal about the place is the location/parking situation (I'd recommend Uber, especially if going at night). read more

Pretty solid Mexican spot in the heart of downtown Denver. The paintings and ambiance are nice for an upscale lunch or gathering. The restaurant is located directly across from the brown palace hotel. We ordered a chicken stir fry and the anniversary plate. Both were good, ingredients fresh and of generous serving size. The food wasn't extravagant from a culinary perspective. Furthermore, they felt a little understaffed. Even though there were several open tables we had to a wait a bit more than one would expect. I brought the idea of sitting prior to being waited on up to the host and seemed a little baffled. Overall I liked the spot but it did not blow me away. read more

La Loma was absolutely delicious, had a super cute ambiance and my server Roxanne was a gem! It's a must go to while Denver. The chips, salsa and guacamole were the best I've had anywhere!! I am typically not a Paloma fan but ordered one for the grapefruit juice due to fighting a cold and the Paloma was absolutely delicious!! They use fresh squeezed grapefruit juice apparently. I ended up ordering grapefruit juice to go to try and shake the cold I was feeling from drastic weather changes coming from Miami. As an entree I ordered the brisket chimichangas and they were out of this world delicious! Roxanne was excellent - sweet, was intuitive and made great suggestions. All around a great experience and if I had another day in Denver I would've gone back again. read more

The food is always great here. It never disappoints! Always made fresh and with quality. The chips and salsa are to die for as the chips are made fresh as well! AMAZING!!! Their tortillas are undoubtedly the very best in Denver. The kind you happily eat on their own... definitely try them out. I also ordered the Carne Guisada and it was phenomenal! Slightly spicy and super robust flavors in general. The churros we ordered for dessert were also fresh, crisp, sugary, and delicious. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated and welcoming. First time we came here food was Ice cold and we didn't get to eat ended up just paying and leaving service wasn't too good either second time which was today basically Same experience Cold Food and VERY RUDE servers Got seated and a really small table asked the manager to get us to a bigger one he kinda shrugged me off and told me "No You'll be okay" then the waiter came to take our order we got a steak fajita and requested it to be well done and also the chicken to be well done the waiter completely undermining my request and laughing at me told me "we make our food made to order and never serve anything under done "in a rude tone ordered some appetizers with chicken and the chicken came out UNDER DONE when we showed it to him he kinda had a mean grin When the food itself came there was no room at the table the manager said "Looks like there ain't enough room " I said I know that's why I asked for a bigger table? He said okay I'll put you at a bigger table Then we got out fajitas the chicken was okay But the steak was basically charred Rare Definitely never coming back Service 0/10 Management 0/10 Food 0/10. This was truly a 5 star experience. Got a table through Resy but we were not far from them closing. Our server was so great and when my wife asked about gluten free options he was so knowledgeable about the entire menu. Then the food...the rice brought me back to my nana's house over 30 years ago. A much sought-after spot, La Loma, does not disappoint. I opted for Grandma's Green Chile plate and had the most scrumptious bowl of green chile ever. We first visited La Loma in April. We were there as soon as the restaurant opened and we were seated with Mauricio. He was very attentive and asked if we had ever been to La Loma. He brought us a sample of the green chile with a fresh tortilla and we were sold! During that trip we tried green chile at several places but La Loma was our favorite. We ordered it that day based on Mauricio's recommendation and the sample he provided. We found ourselves in Denver again a few days ago, this time with our daughter. We took her to La Loma specifically for the green chile and we asked for Mauricio. He remembered us from our previous visit. I've been a server myself for a long time so I pay attention to service details and I can confidently say Mauricio is a fantastic server and he truly enjoys what he does. We are so grateful for the experience both times and plan to dine at La Loma every time we are in Denver. It's 100% worth the drive from Vegas! read more

Soooo good. The margarita was excellent, the atmosphere is lots of fun, and the servers are personable. We came hungry, which was valuable when we ordered guac and endless chips and then all took in our full entrees. If you're here near the conference centers, definitely check La Loma out. read more

A coworker told me this was the best Mexican food in CO, but I wouldn't go that far. I had the carnitas tacos--meat was tasty, sides were just okay. We usually go to the Castle Rock location but had the good fortune of being downtown and headed here. We really enjoyed our dinner. We started with some margaritas at the bar, which were fantastic, and then had fajitas and enchiladas at our table. Everything was delicious and that green chili was just the right amount of spice. We also had friendly and fast service. Compared to a lot of the other options downtown the prices here are also very reasonable --will definitely come back! read more

This spot came highly recommended by a friend and it absolutely lived up to the hype! The food tasted fresh and high quality, and the service was just as impressive. My boyfriend can be particular about his tacos, but the staff was super accommodating, they swapped the standard protein for skirt steak (with a small upcharge), and he was thrilled with the result. Tip- if you are going on the weekend, use valet parking at the hotel on the right just after the restaurant. It is complimentary with validated ticket and they work for tips! It was much better than driving around forever to find parking or walking from the parking lots! The restaurant was bustling as one would expect on a Saturday night! Our waitress was kind and patient while we asked questions to decide what we wanted. She even went as far as telling us that some people find the green chili spicy. La Loma | Denver was a great experience! We had friendly, attentive service throughout our meal. We we didn't have a lunch reservation, but they were accommodating considering most tables were occupied. Next time we'll definitely make a reservation, this place was packed inside for a Friday afternoon lunch, so we ate on the patio. The chips and salsa were great! The salsa was a bit spicy for us- we're from Texas and frequently eat Mexican food, so the spiciness was definitely a bit more than what we were expecting. We asked what was in the salsa, and it may have been the Serrano peppers providing that extra kick. We ordered queso before the meal which came out piping hot, and was really good. For my meal, I ordered a mix and match where I got a cheese enchilada with rice and beans. Everything tasted good, but the heat from the sauce was a bit much. Ultimately, the heat in the sauce kind of overshadowed the meal. The food here is great, but it's just too spicy. I wish they would dial the spice back just a bit, so the flavors can come through. Love, love , love this place. They had a special happy hour menu and aside from me ordering grandmas green chilis with the tortillas we stuck to that menu to try everything. Everything was excellent. Brisket tacos, rellenos, nachos and taquitos. Juan our server was great and attentive. He brought us some anniversary churros. My wife has kept me around for 35years. Great meal. We had a group of 8 that went a few weekends ago for my bachelorette and I thought this was a nice place. Seemed expensive for Mexican food. Our server Mauricio was great! We had a bachelor party behind us and that made it super fun. We definitely made the place a little more party than i think it would be normally. I had the rellenos and enchilada plate. This was a nice restaurant downtown with good food. Food tasted pretty good and portions were large. The restaurant was very busy when we went but were seated very quickly. I'm a bit picky about my rice so I would say it was good. There was an issue with my order where I had ordered some taquitos with green sauce and was given red enchiladas.The issue was fixed and my server offered his apologies and comped the meal that was in error as well as a drink on the house. The vibe of the restaurant was between a buzzing restaurant for families and a place where coworkers go for a drink after work. If I'm ever in Denver again we'd definitely come back. read more

One of our favorite Denver restaurants during our visit! We came here on a Thursday night for dinner and it was extremely packed, good thing we made reservations for our group. Not sure if the name change from La Loma to Savina's meant that the quality of the food went from five stars to just two. Our homemade tortilla chips were under cooked. The guacamole had no flavor and the chimichanga shell was half an inch thick. Very underwhelmed. If you liked La Loma, Savina's is not that AT ALL. read more

History

Established in 1973.

Our story began in 1973 and grew into a landmark built from three historic Victorian mining homes—the Colonial, the Victoria, and the Cantina located in the Highlands near Denver. Over decades, we became a Denver tradition and a gathering place for family, friends, and authentic Mexican food. We later relocated across from the historic Brown Palace Hotel and opened our Castle Rock location soon after all while continuing to serve the award-winning green chile and family recipes that made us famous. In 2025, we changed the name of our downtown Denver and Castle Rock locations from La Loma to Savina's. This change was about honoring grandma Savina Mendoza — the heart behind our kitchen. Same food, same family, same tradition.

How is parking?

Parking downtown can be difficult and there is very limited parking on that block. I'd recommend using the valet service (Mon-Fri at 5pm, Sat/Sun at 11am), using Uber/Lyft, or taking the RTD.

How is outdoor seating going to look during Denver's cold winters?

Most tables are on the patio with overhead heaters. They are pretty toasty. There are two tables outside the patio on the sidewalk. Those aren't heated, and aren't too comfortable after the sun goes down.

The second time was around 12:30 on a Saturday night when we came in for a night cap. The first time we came in, it wasn't too busy, and we were encouraged to sit wherever we wanted. The bar was full so we chose a small table. Our server gave us menus, though specials were written on a chalkboard above the bar. We each tired a couple of cocktails and had a shot called the Master Shot. We also chose the make-your-own charcuterie board. Our favorite drink was the Woo Girl, which allowed us to choose our spirit of choice. I chose gin and my friend chose tequila. When we returned a couple of nights later, we knew already we were going to order the Woo Girl cocktail. It was packed on a Saturday night, but there was a small table in back where they seated us. This bar is more for spending time with the friends you come with, rather than mingling, as staff seats you at a table. It doesn't seem like they offer standing room or just squeezing in, though maybe we just didn't experience that.
