    Giant Chocolate Chip Cookie
    Erica B.

I hate to say it but the cookie I had was the best part of this meal. I walked from my hotel to grab takeout after reading reviews that this was a must try in Denver. I did the build your own bowl and liked that you can sub guacamole for dairy instead of paying extra for guac. Chicken was kind of weird and not my favorite thing. Queso and chips were both bland and nothing to get excited over. Everything was just okay but that cookie... oh my gosh! Giant and delicious! Would come back for the cookie and maybe try a protein other than chicken. Service was friendly and food came out quick.

The restaurant was in walking distance from the downtown hotel and convention center. I was impressed with the authentic tasting offerings . I had the chicken tacos with the crunchy corn shells. They even had a variety of authentic Mexican toppings and drinks. We stopped by to have a quick lunch and was able to order, eat and leave before the lunch hour is over. The restaurant is decorated with lots of Mexican themed decor.

Went there for a quick lunch. The line was longer and didn't move really fast so I spent about 15 mins in line. Their menu is nice and simple. I ordered the chicken bowl with guacamole. You get to choose all ur toppings. Lots of seating in and out on their patio but I had to get back for a meeting. The bowl was good but nothing more special than Chipotle. But Chipotle is faster and less expensive so I guess overall an average meal.

Illegal Pete's is the superior version of Chipotle. I got a kids' grilled chicken burrito for only $7.44, and it was FAT. I wanted something small, so I ordered a kids' size, but it honestly looked like an adult-sized portion to me. It was delicious, and the employees were extremely friendly.

Nice workers, great food, convenient location, comfy booths right in the window! I loved hanging out here having lunch and making art! A lot of good vibes from staff and customers even!

We liked Illegal Pete's so much that we came here (LoDo location) twice during our recent visit to Denver! We especially loved the "big fish" burrito where we could add anything we want. Besides all the usual suspects (beans, rice, veggies), I also added vegan green chili to mine and it was delicious! On our second visit, we ordered an extra side of the green chili -- my husband liked it more there than at other places we went to on this trip (and he is a Denver native so he knows... ). The people working there were patient and efficient, and I like the "rocking" décor - I noticed "The Clash" printed on the clothing of someone in a painting. Also, when I looked at their website I was impressed to learn that they have a "Starving Artist" program which supports creatives (writers, artists, bands) that come through town! Per their site: "There's more to life than burritos. Like feeding bands, sponsoring artists, supporting comedians, and uplifting schools in our communities. You get the jist. We're not trying to save the world, but if we can make delicious food while giving back to our neighbors, that's the dream that started this whole thing." That's pretty cool!

Wish I could give them 6 stars. Incredible service, probably the friendliest and happiest workers I've ever met. They really make the experience! On top of that the food is awesome! Super good, tasty chicken and they also had some grilled veggies that were great, absolute loved the chips and queso and the cookie was pretty good too. They also have drinks and their classic margarita was one of the best I've ever had. Seriously so impressed by this place and can't believe I hadn't been before. Indoor space is a little dark, definitely bar vibes and they had the football games playing. Nice outdoor space as well.

We got the usual ! free margaritas since we are going to a show ! 3 steak tacos and burrito and some excellent hot sauces of course!

Illegal Pete's is always a solid place to eat or drink. The quality of the food is excellent. I always get a good amount and always leave feeling full. The service is really great with fun people and I always enjoy myself here! Crystal and I come all the time for tacos and burritos and drinks I usually get a margarita and Crystal is a vodka girl! We always bring our friends here when they come to visit and a great place to pop into in between different Denver events! We are also huge comedy fans and love how they are a part of Highplains Comedy Festival and we always enjoy that. It's definitely a staple here for us! - we enjoy that it's a place where everyone can feel safe and comfortable and accepted here! I hope that part especially always stays the same here at Illegal Pete's!

The type of place I enjoy food from- the place is unassuming with tables and booths for sitting as well as an outdoor area with misters. The decor is eclectic which makes it fun to look around. I have been in the area a year and finally found queso I enjoyed. I had a chicken burrito bowl which was filled with flavor. The chicken was freshly cooked with flavor. The veggies and other toppings were plentiful. The staff that filled our order was friendly. They did come around making sure all was Good. The chips are freshly made which is another huge bonus.

Every dish we ordered was flavorful, thoughtful, and delicious -- but the highlight was the STEAK - do not skip this. This is the Michelin restaurant that you go to if you like a more casual / less stuffy experience. Food: 4 Every dish that we ordered was delicious, but slightly on the heavy side without anything light/acidic to break it up. Perhaps it's because of what we chose to order though! Frijoles Puerco: This was a play on refried beans and chorizo. The chorizo has a little kick to it. The sourdough tortillas were delicious and served fresh and warm. Callo De Hacha Al Horno: The scallops were a flavor bomb served in a serrano ponzu and tomato butter. I'm unsure why the scallops were cut into smaller pieces instead of left whole... Enmoladas De Pollo: This was essentially chicken enchiladas cooked in mole so I was skeptical if I would find this dish worthwhile. They proved me wrong as this was one of the best dishes of the night. The mole was flavorful, not too heavy, and the chicken enchilada was so well cooked. Birria De Borrego: The lamb shank was cooked until it was fork tender. After taking it apart, wrap it in a fresh and warm tortilla with refried corn beans and salsa. The lamb was well cooked and made for a good balanced bite, but it did feel special. Service: 5 We set at the chef table and was able to watch as they finished and plated each dish. The chef was attentive without being overbearing/annoying and we had a good conversation with him. Food came out at a good pace. Ambiance: 5 The restaurant is small and cozy. It didn't feel stifling or pretentious as other fine dining restaurants can sometimes feel. This would be perfect for a date or dinner with friends.

Looking at taco places, I went with something close by to our location and found this hidden gem. Nestled away on a small street corner of Clay Street and 32nd Ave. parking can be scarce, but I'm sure with the right time and a little bit of walking you will find and manage your way here. Outside the restaurant, they have a small seating area which now is winter too cold to enjoy, but I'm sure in the spring and summer and fall time is super enjoyable. The inside, though a little bit tiny and no cozier than going to your mom's house and expecting a family Filled living room/Kitchen. We went down and greeted by three smiling faces. We already looked at the photos online and knew we want tacos so opted with the chicken tacos and Carne Asada taco plates. The tacos place option came with 5 tacos with up to 2 choices of meats the ratio would be 2:3 .. freshly mashed guacamole made in front of you or freshly sliced avocado.. In the pictures I listed you will find each chicken and Carne Asada options. Both slow pictures missing two tacos because we devoured them as soon as we got into the truck. Their street tacos are heavenly! Chicken option was all chicken breast super juicy grilled to perfection five tacos on a plate another two tacos missing because my husband and I devoured it. This plate came we asked it with the guacamole option instead of fresh avocado. The carne asada was just FULL of flavor and the fresh avocado slices with green tomatillo salsa SLAPPED.. the tortillas are super soft and tears from how fresh the flour tortillas were!! I was vaguely familiar with Chef Richard Sandoval due to his brief appearance on Top Chef, but didn't know too much about his cuisine. The brunch has a really fun and original idea in that you can order bottomless small plates for $42 per person or bottomless food and drinks for $59 in person, with a two-hour limit.
