As with likely many of the clientele, we ended up here waiting for a show at Mission. Bless the people who work here. They were all friendly despite the continuous onslaught of concertgoers. We only had time for drinks and the elote. But that elote was effing awesome and we finished the whole thing. We need to go back when a concert isn't involved. Chubby Unicorn is such a great addition to RiNo! It's the perfect spot to grab a bite before heading to a show at Mission Ballroom. The space is roomy with both indoor and outdoor seating, which I love. The service was quick, friendly, and overall just really welcoming. I tried the El Paso, shrimp & chorizo, and asada tacos, every single one was delicious. The tacos are priced around $5-$7 each, which feels fair for the quality. First time here. Really cool food hall with restaurants, breweries, and bars near the Mission Ballroom. Stopped in for beer and food before a show. I went with the birria (special) taco, the shrimp, and the Al pastor. All were quite good. I added a side of the rice, which was good as well. Bar service was friendly and prompt too. Walked over for a show at Mission Ballroom and decided to check this place out. We arrived and it was pretty early for the show so not too busy. Seated immediately and our waiter who just started today immediately got us situated. Frozen marg was $10 and it had a really good flavor. We had chicken nachos with chicken tinga. They came supper fast and tasted yummy. Pickles onions and fresh jalapeños along with cream and a house enchilada type sauce. We ate them all. Chicken tinga tacos were ok. Generally not my favorite so low expectations. Carne asada taco was good and a bit spicy. Al Pastor taco was perfect. In every case, the flour tacos shells were not fire first so they disintegrated quickly and the food came out so fast!! Service was great. Prices were reasonable and you can't beat the location for a show. I love the outdoor patio and fire pit. Also, you can seat groups of all sizes here. I'm sure they get slammed before and after a show so good for them. I'd come back and try some happy hour options. read more

chubby unicorn is not authentic but they do try to use authentic ingredients to formulate a "mexican" experience. for example queso fresco and pickled onion. from frozen margaritas, to tacos and nachos. I will say, the food is good, thoughtful, and prepared with love. the service is friendly and they do go above to make sure you are satisfied. the bar tender was kind and even gave me some recommendations for a beer to cure my hangover. a cream ale, that blew me away. smooth and just enough sweetness. I will be going back, and I really enjoyed the nachos. there could be a tad bit more seasoning on the carne asada. the salsa is more of a tomato style which reminds me of more of a tex mex style. I havent tried the other salsas but i will look for a spicier one next time. they gave me that on the side. I left full, happy and had leftovers. the nacho tray is massive! def get your money's worth here. read more

Delicious margaritas and scrumptious tacos. Wait staff super friendly. Great place to hang until your show at the Mission. Can even see when the crowd line gets short enough so you don't have to wait. Gets pretty crowded right before showtime but get there early, get some cheaper drinks than you'll ever get inside Mission and hang for a bit! Chill, fun atmosphere. read more

This review is long and I don't ever leave reviews but after this meal my friend group spent maybe 3 hours just bewildered. This feedback meant purely to help the restaurant help themselves . Some girlfriends and I meet every week at Mexican places for dinner and were excited to try this new restaurant. The salsas were below subpar lacking salt, spices or really just any flavor. Truly all of us were shocked; the chipotle tasted like sweet marinara tomato paste with no salt, one somehow tasted like watery nothing (no salt), the verde tasted like cucumbers no salt and the standard house did finally have some flavor a little kick, but no surprise - no salt. We each ordered a different margarita /tequila cocktail and I hate to say it but even those were poor. The house marg tasted like marg mix with old limes, the cucumber cocktail somehow lacked any of the flavors listed in the drink but provided an after taste reminiscent of dirty dish water and even the sunset cocktail fell flat lacking any flavors listed in the drink. Now by this point we felt a little disappointed, but all kept in mind hey they just opened maybe there's hope; maybe the chef will save us. Nope. We order beans and rice, ceviche, carne asada tacos, al pastor, chicken tinga tacos, shrimp tacos and potatoes bravas. Frankly, no surprise....nothing was seasoned. Plain white rice with a sprig of beat up cilantro and the beans ....for some reason had tomato's cooked in but no salt no flavor. Not even the flavor of the tomatoes. Some key points when considering the tacos-- probably don't. Denver is a city with so many diverse and amazing Mexican cuisine options. The ceviche; no salt or any flavor not even lime. Just cut up some shrimp a few other ingredients boarder line child level. The corn tortillas were sticky and didn't seemed cooked like maybe they were dipped in oil and placed in the microwave. The classic carne asada taco was really mind boggling for our table. First there was lettuce, then they used ground beef which tasted like a mix of taco bell meets they used an entire premade taco seasoning on the one serving of meat. Overall the kitchen felt like is was run by someone who has never had Mexican food and thinks salt is spicy. I've just never come across so many bland dishes. Thank god you can't mess up potatoes they were crispy and well seasoned. Location and ambiance are fine. I just hope they readdress and maybe taste their food. Maybe try take out from a few of your competitors or neighboring Mexican restaurants. Bring it back to your kitchen and taste things side by side because the fact that this restaurant opened with so many basic food issues is surprising. read more
