Four stars for the food, but I would not go out of my way to come back. Reason number one: the staff is not at all welcoming. Like what is the fucking deal?? Did everyone just get out of a bummer meeting right before we came in? It was alarmingly off-putting. No return greeting when I said good morning. Started to tell me our total to pay then literally said "whatever, it's on the screen" and walked off. I guess you wait for your coffee/beverage at the bar but they deliver your food to your table. Food was literally dropped in front of us from a couple inches height without any comment and did not include any utensils to eat it with or directions on where to find some. It all felt very icky. And speaking of icky, the plastic cups for self-serve water are all cut up around the rim like a squirrel or a child has been chewing away at them. Reason number two: food was really hit or miss. Was the chocolate croissant incredible? Yes. Was the cardamom knot the perfect level of sweet, sticky, and satisfying? Yes. Was the okonomiyaki frittata rich in flavor and uniqueness? Yes. But was the breakfast sandwich totally lackluster? And the oat matcha nothing noteworthy? Also yes. We lucked out without almost any line to speak of, but it was very long by the time we were leaving. I would not wait in line for any of that. read more

Okay I misunderstood that the okonomiyaki was actually just a frittata with toppings that resembled okonomiyaki which was truly a bummer and not what I was expecting, I was not a fan. I stopped by here on a Monday morning and there was a small line when I got there and when I left, which makes sense because everything at Saint Bread is so good! The pastries have a wonderful, flakey, light and fluffy texture and very unique flavors that I haven't seen at many other bakeries. While the ordering area is small, there is extensive outdoor, covered seating which is very nice, especially for large groups. I ordered a mocha which was delicious and the ginger currant pull apart which was fluffy, not too sweet, and very tasty. The flavor of the currant and ginger paired wonderfully. We got here pretty shortly after they opened on a Saturday and the line was pretty short. By the time we left it was a very long line. I got the Cream Cheese Furikake Twist and the seasonal Rhubarb Danish. Both were delicious! The twist was smaller than I was expecting it to be. The service was okay--they weren't really interested in answering any questions we had. I would understand if it was busy and they needed to move the line along but there was only one person behind us in line. If I could encapsulate my experience at Saint Bread it would be delicious goodness. The techniques at this location with their pastries and bread is outstanding. One should read the owner/chefs bio before eating here. It is rare to fully feel like one can get a sense of a chefs (culinary pov from their bio). For example, I purchase Frontera salsa, ate at a Rick Bayles taqueria and read his bio. The food and salsas didn't do anything for me. Nothing stood out. The food tasted fine but there was no soul in the food. At Saint bread everything has soul and the flavors pop. Whether it's the salmon, the breakfast sandwiches, the deserts it's an homage. I love saint bread's unique menu and was very excited to try it out. I just made a quick visit and grabbed the caramel miso apple cider because my friends raved about it. Personally, I don't think the apple cider is anything super different than your standard one. I recently got a different farmers market apple cider and the quality of juice was much more crisp and the apple really shined. I couldn't really taste the caramel and miso in the apple cider, but all that being said it was still tasty and I would get it again. I just wouldn't go out of my way to stop by. The service was pretty quick, but I do wish the employees were a bit more friendly. They were not mean by any standards, but not exactly enthusiastic when I asked what I should try. I do think the outdoor seating is super cool because they have a heated part. I could see myself doing homework there for hours and being productive. I've been to Saint Bread before and after the NY Times article naming Saint Bread among the best bakeries in the US. The wait was already about 10 minutes on a Saturday morning before the article and now expect to wait ~30 minutes. On our last visit we got a butter croissant, a chocolate croissant, a cardamom knot and a bacon and egg breakfast sandwich. The croissant was light, fluffy and buttery! It was so good that it reminded us of the croissants we ate in Paris! The chocolate croissant was equally flaky and the chocolate was delicious. I loved the cardamom knot! When the bacon and egg breakfast sandwich arrived, my partner and I split it. It was so good that I told him I'm getting my own next time! He had the same reaction! The bun tasted like Hawaiian bread as the sweetness of the bread balanced the saltiness of the bacon and egg. The staff were friendly and brought out our breakfast sandwich. The vibe is chilled and people were happy eating their breakfast and drinking their coffee! They have an outdoor patio with tables and chairs and overhead heaters to keep you warm! There is also an overflow area with tables and chairs on the opposite side of the building! If you go be prepared to stand in line. Wow! This place is just amazing. I was introduced to this spot my my Girlfriend and now I can't stop going back. Located right on the water, Saint Bread is the perfect place to get a drink, burger, or pastry, and just relax in the outdoor seating. The view of the water is great, and the food is even better! I've been wanting to come try the pastries here for a while and I finally made the trek up to UW area to check it out. It was a pretty rainy and gloomy day and I got there around noon and I didn't have to wait in line and there were still some pastries available! I ordered an avocado toast with an egg and a hojicha latte with almond milk for brunch. And then I got the focaccia, a cardamom croissant, and the panescone (a scone with citrus peel, dried cherries and currants(for later). I easily found a seat in their outdoor seating area that's covered with a tent. My food came out pretty quickly and it was delicious! The bread was really good and the egg was perfectly jammy and runny. The hojicha was good too! For the pastries, the scone and croissant were really good. The cardamom croissant was super pretty. I didn't the focaccia - I gave that to a friend and she was it was really good too. Would love to come back here and try the rest of their menu and more of their delicious pastries! I had an appointment across the street and happened upon this bakery. There was a long line but I had some time so didn't mind. My 3yo has a nut & fish allergy so I checked the menu as soon as we got into the line to ensure she was able to eat here. There is no disclaimer for their pastries containing nuts. Nor is there a disclaimer for fish. We stood in line almost 45 minutes only to get to the front and not only was almost everything sold out, the items left had notes that they contain nuts or fish. Reminder: these same items did NOT say they contained nuts on the online menu! Additionally, everything is in the same case very close to the other so cross contamination is very very likely. The girl at the front was a bit condescending and stated I should have come to the front and asked prior to standing in line for almost 45 minutes. I don't know about you, but it is not a common thing to cut the line to ask questions about the menu. Maybe that's just me and my manners! I would expect everything about allergens to be posted on the menu! I was highly upset not only by the lack of care to warn customers with life threatening allergies, but also by the attitude of the employee like I was the one who did something wrong. You guys take the time to note GF and Vegan ingredients, but not life threatening allergens. That's HIGHLY concerning and I do wonder if it's illegal. Your menu should state if an item contains a common allergen! Not just your sign in the case. The taste was alright but for $10 our burger barely had any meat, I think they were going for the smashed burger concept but our meat was more like beef crisp. + potato salad - 1/5 - didn't like the flavor at all. Get here early - the lines can get pretty long! I visited a couple of times before the James Beard nomination and always found the food enjoyable, though personally I felt the portion sizes were on the smaller side for the price, and the desserts leaned a bit sweet for my taste. Still, I really appreciate their collaboration with Proud Mary and them popularizing the incorporation of Asian influence in their food. I remember they even hosted a fun release party for a coffee collaboration. The location by the water is beautiful too. I revisited recently, and by 9:30 am on Sat, a long line was already forming. We ordered the egg sandwich, frittata, latte, and matcha. The egg sandwich was tasty (though I have a couple of personal favorites elsewhere in Seattle) but felt a bit small for the price, especially with the additional charge for the bacon and melonpan bun. The frittata had some great touches, like the okonomiyaki-inspired toppings, but the filling itself came across as a little bland. Adding seafood or another bold flavor might have created a more cohesive and exciting dish. Overall, both dishes were nicely prepared but again were small portions and played it very safe by incorporating the Asian influence in very small ways, rather than going for the kind of creative, balanced flourishes or twists my personal preference would be. ~$25 per person for a breakfast item and drink probably raises expectations here too. I also noticed the drinks were served in paper cups by default, which took away from the experience. I think it caters to a certain demographic, which leans more towards safer, tamer flavors at that price point. That said, they consistently put out well-crafted pastries - I've tried quite a few, including the chocolate chip cookie, chocolate croissant, danish, yogurt cake, furikake twist, cardamom knot, and melonpan. While all were solid and well-made, I personally didn't quite get that "wow" moment that some of the hype might lead you to expect. The breakfast sandwich was quite delicious - however, it reminded me of a more expensive version of Wendy's Baconator Sandwich. Egg, bacon, cheese sauce, brioche bun. I'm not saying that Saint Bread's version wasn't a little better, but not $10-more better. Higher rents, good level of staffing, better quality ingredients all add up. In sum, if I want to treat someone in my life from family, work or other to something special, we will go to Saint Bread and sit at the outdoor picnic tables overlooking the marina and waterway. But if I'm on my own heading somewhere, probably just go grab something quick and cheaper yet tasty elsewhere. 1 star for bad communication and customer service. They had posted as early as last week about a summer special - their apricot parfait - which I was eager to try. Yesterday and today, I called saint bread multiple times to ensure they had it in stock, because I know how fickle these specials can be. Nobody picked up no matter how many times I called at various times of the day. I decided to visit saint bread to try this item anyway and made the 30 min drive in and spent a while waiting for parking. They ended up being out of the item for the whole summer, even though this was supposed to last until fall. I wonder if I missed some communication about this because they posted this item on their Instagram on July 15 and there was no announcement that it was out. Both were delicious! The toast was just the right level of crispy-ness without feeling like you're shredding your palate biting into it. The olive oil and Za'atar seasoning on top was lovely! They have covered outdoor seating, self bussing and theres a water area if you wanted water, you can ask for a cup of ice when you order though. Bathrooms are clean and share one sink area between two private bathrooms. Egg Salad Sandwich (1/5): Prepackaged, The bread was crumbly and dry, not very soft or moist for an egg salad sandwich. There was barely any filling of egg salad, so couldn't even tell if it was seasoned well. They were heavy handed on the furikake sprinkling in the sandwich, which made it way too salty. I'd avoid getting this ever again Yuzu Polenta Cake (2/5): Can taste the yuzu, there were crunchy bits of polenta, which was a bit off putting in the grand scheme of things. The cake was dense and not that moist either, the middle being more then the edges Doubutsu Fries (2/5): Their version of animal fries, crispy fries covered in softened onions, a tangy sauce and another strong sprinkle of furikake. The fries were not uniformly fried, some were a lot crispier and didn't have much of the soft center you'd enjoy in contrast. The onions were cut into slivers and only sprinkled near the center, they were decent but nothing special. Sauce was very tangy and threw off the taste of the whole dish, overpowered the sweetness of the onions. Furikake was mainly in the center so it was so salty, we just had to eat around that part. Chocolate Chip Cookie (3/5): crispy outside with a softer center, there was gooey chocolate, wasn't too sweet, it satisfies the cookie craving but nothing special. The cookie is quite flat but moderate in size, like 2.5in diameter. I was looking forward to some of the pastries, I'd consider going back for them if is as in the area but i wouldn't recommend people to go here. read more

Update: I came back today to try more of the pastries, this time in the morning to be early enough to get them. There wasn't much of a line thankfully and we got in and out pretty fast. I honestly didn't like any of the items I tried. There's a strong presence of cardamom in their pastries, even the ones not named cardamom. I tried the potato salad, chocolate chip cookie, gochudoodle, melonpan, yuzu polenta cake, and black sesame bun. The only one I thought was good was the chocolate chip cookie. The melonpan and black sesame bread both had a cardamom flavor rather than the flavor it should be as it was named. The gochudoodle had good flavor initially, but I couldnt get over the spice after. Finally, the yuzu polenta cake was fine -- it tastes exactly how it sounds but the polenta or quinoa or sometime inside was hard and crunchy. Maybe its just a palette I'm not a fan of, but my friends also agreed on this. I don't think I'll be coming back. read more

There are two outdoor seating options on either side of the main bakery: one is covered, enclosed, and heated, and the other is just covered. There's no indoor seating. We tried the matcha crispy, the cinnamon-Okinawan sugar toast (the item that put them on the map via the New York Times' top 22 bakeries in the US), fried egg sandwich, Saint cheeseburger with a fried egg (+$3), and fries with all the fixins. Everything was solid. For two people, the total came out to $55 with tip. We grabbed coffee elsewhere and stuck with waters here. Self-service for water and bus your own table. I have been meaning to check our their famous Saint Cheeseburger and their general great vibe for a while. My food expert coworker has been raving about their burger for months and I have been waiting for a chance. I was super excited to finally try their food! There is a pretty big marina parking lot right next to Saint Bread for customers of various businesses adjacent to the marina. Parking rate was reasonable at $2 an hour. The line was not that long at noon when we got there. We ordered the regular cheeseburger and one with extra patty, along with some fries and a cup of cappuccino. We then found an open table in the back. This place is a bus-your-own-table kind of place. We got our drink from the counter and a few minutes later, someone brought our food to our table. My "double" burger was fantastic. The burger was juicy, full of flavor, and pretty amazing. My wife's regular burger, was a different story. The burger patty was all dry and burnt like a thin slice of well-cooked bacon. We almost went back to the counter to complain but the line was so long and we didn't want to make a scene. It was a pretty terrible burger. It was such a disappointingly mixed experience. But my double burger was awesome. Just a few more things: extra patty on menu was $3 but actual charge was $4. Also, call me old fashioned but I am not a super fan of pre-tipping at a bus-your-own-table places. Also, the lowest tip started at 18%, which seemed high to me for a self-service restaurant. Came here on a Sunday at around 10:30AM and there was a pretty big line! The things we wanted to try also sold out by the time we got to the front so if you want more options, I'd really recommend coming early. I tried the yuzu polenta cake, spicy ginger cookie, and the fried egg sandwich with added marinated mushrooms. The yuzu polenta cake was delicious! It was so moist and had a lovely texture from the polenta. The spicy ginger cookie was also nicely chewy and I really liked how potent the ginger flavor was. I wanted to try the egg sandwich with the melon pan but that also sold out so I got the sandwich with the Hawaiian bun. It was still delicious and now I just have to come back to try those things that I missed. Overall really happy with what we ordered and would love to try more things. The price for the egg sandwich was pretty high, especially with the added mushrooms (which were +$4 but so delicious). I did love that they have covered outdoor seating, with heaters, so even coming during a cold and rainy day wouldn't be so bad. Their croissant/lamination game is A++++!! We tried their cardamom croissant and another pastry (husband brought it home, I think he said it was a cinnamon swirl? It had layers of swirly croissant dough with a little cocoa/chocolate center) The outer layer was unbelievable crispy but the inner layers are so tender and flakey and buttery. Must try!! The cardamom croissant has a very delicate cardamom flavor, not too strong. They've got a very gingery ginger cookie that is yummy. So far, all the pastries here have been delicious. We've tried a couple of their sandwiches (a cold cut sandwich during summer, the fried egg breakfast sandwich, and the burger). They are all good though I prefer the hot sandwiches, and do feel like they are a bit on the steep/pricier side. The egg sandwich is $8 or $9, you can choose to get it on Hawaiian bread or a melonpan (very unique). We usually get the marinated mushroom add on - the mushrooms are VERY good and very flavorful, but are an additional $4. Other than price, my only complaint is that the last time I got the sandwich the yolk had broken before I even bit into it, and half of the yolk ended up getting wasted and lost to the wrapper. The burger is an elevated smash burger - my partner says it's like a fancy Dicks burger. The pickles on it are very nice. I got their melon pan, cheeseburger, and Banh mi. I was pleasantly surprised by how good the Banh mi was. It was tofu which was flavored nicely. It was pre packed but not soggy surprisingly. Came saturday afternoon and from waiting in line to ordering to receiving our food was about an hour in total. Unfortunately by the time we got there, all the pastries except the cookies were sold out! At least the chocolate chip cookie was solid .. Smoked ham and cheese was pretty good with the wasabi mayo. Saint cheeseburger was actually a bit underwhelming! Thought there'd be more to it. Their lattes are good, I like the espresso. They're pretty light on the syrups though as I couldn't really taste the miso caramel in my latte (although I do appreciate it more over an overly sweetened drink) Cant say for sure if it's worth the hype since a lot of the pastries theyre known for were out so I guess I'll just have to try coming again read more

Beautiful view, great food, alright drinks! Perfect for chilling with friends for brunch or a cute date. I went Sunday afternoon. There was a limited supply of baked goods in the front window (they seem to sell out quickly) but all of the by-order food off the menu was still available. Matcha latte was a little too bitter and foamy for me, and I typically prefer a less sweet matcha so I felt like that's saying a lot. Was kind of fighting my way through the foam for some matcha flavor. The salmon mousse toast... AMAZING. This seems to be a limited special menu item. PLEASE KEEP IT. The soft texture of the salmon mousse while retaining the rich, deep flavor of the salmon is perfectly paired with those pickled beets and a little drizzle of lemon. The toast itself is thick and perfectly crunchy. So good and such a good portion for a midday treat. Great and quick service despite the business. They give you a number and bring the food to you. You'll have to wait at the counter for your drink. Small interior but plenty of seating on the patio with a really pretty view of the water. Reasonably sheltered from the elements so it's not too cold even on a January day. read more
