Enjoyed the Banh Xeo, aka Vietnamese pancake. They didn't provide instruction on how to eat it, so you don't know you might ask. Large portions and great price. On the down side, this place operates short one or 2 of staff at all times. Dining in can be a huge frustration and if your short on time forget it. My wife and I have Saigon Palace in our rotation and eat here three or four times a year. This visit we again ordered the summer rolls to share and they were delightful. Janet had the chicken pho and I had rare steak pho. We both really enjoyed both. Good stuff. We will definitely be back. Be aware that the the small bowl of pho is pretty big and the large bowl is huge. It tastes great in the restaurant but does not keep well. Leftovers disappoint. Our plan for our next visit is to get two appetizers to share and one bowl of pho to share. read more

There's no way these reviews are legitimate. My family and I came in here for lunch and the place was not packed- I'd say it was half occupied. We seated ourselves as the two men manning the place were running around like chickens without direction. We seated ourselves and as I touched the table, it was super sticky and was evident they didn't clean it before we sat as the table was also reeking of fish sauce. It took 20 minutes for one of them to approach us and take our order. But it became evident who actually knows what they're doing as one is clueless, asking the other one whether they had so and so ingredients for so and so meal which became annoying. As I was ordering, the clueless one keeps insinuating that I order a lot and eats a lot( FAT). Yes, I did order a lot because we were celebrating an accomplishment. In which I review in great detail. So It took another 20 -30 minutes for the food to actually be served and the pho was tepid at best. The Thai basil had brown spots and the bean sprouts were mushy, indicative of using stale ingredients. The bbqs was the only good thing we ordered here. The boba drink was irritatingly sweet and had the artificial flavoring, the Banh mi had stale bread which was hard to chew and the grilled meat was overly done as it had too much burnt marks. Seriously wondering why others would think it's good and would go as far as recommend this establishment. Banh mi D.C. I called the restaurant first to ask what they made their pho base with, since she can't eat beef/chicken stock and they confirmed that they made their veggie pho with veggie stock, so we headed out to go try this place. Unfortunately, when we arrived and ordered, they came back to tell us they didn't have any veggie pho available today and had no veggie broth base. My sister ordered a veggie curry instead, which they said they had, but it does bring up the question of what did they make that with?? Meat broth? Or veggie? Spring rolls were okay; they were small but very hot, so they were freshly made. My sister liked her curry and my pho was just meh. Ordered the small beef and the noodles were all clumped up inside the bowl and there were 4 slices of beef in there. The waiters seemed nice but a little inattentive. I had to get back to work, so I ended up getting up from the table to get the check and pay. Overall, I wouldn't bother returning, based on what happened with veggie pho alone. read more

At first, I didn't want to see it, but this time it was apparent. The establishment is RACIST!!!! My niece and I pulled up at the exact same time as a Caucasian woman who I assume was with her mom and dad. We all walk in together. As I walk in, I noticed a new server, in which she directed us to have a seat. I knew she was new, so I made sure we took our time with her. We placed our orders which consisted of one bubble tea, an alcoholic drink, vegetarian spring rolls (appetizer), crispy beef (appetizer), and two small bowls of pho. The bubble tea and spring rolls came out, but no alcoholic drink for about 20 minutes. I asked the server for my drink and she stated she forgot to put my drink in. She is new, so it was completely understandable. As time goes by I see the family we walked in with eating their meals, the people in front of us eating their meals, and the people behind us eating their meals. Mind you both the people in front and the back of us came at least 10-15 minutes after us. All were Caucasian by the way. Our server along with the manager continue to walk past our empty table to check on everyone else and to deliver food to everyone but us. I sat there and watched for close to an hour while we didn't get our second appetizer or our bowls of phó. At this point I tell the manager that I need to speak to him and I let him know that we have been sitting down for close to an hour without our food. He mentioned that the server was new and she didn't put the order in. I calmly told him that it wasn't an excuse because they both had walked past our empty table checking on everyone else and personally delivering food to the others without once asking if we were okay or what we had ordered. My niece and I were basically invisible. I also pointed out that the server took everyone else's order and they all got served promptly. The owner then tells me that he will give me an appetizer for free and I told him that's not acceptable. He then begins yelling at my niece and I saying that he's offering us a free appetizer. The manager berated me in front of everyone and I knew that if I lost my cool as an African American woman, it would have been another issue. I then calmly proceeded to tell him no worries we will just pay for our drinks and happily leave. We left and went someplace where we were wanted and appreciated. There is no way that we should be sitting at an empty table for close to an hour waiting for two small bowls of pho. This was a major lesson to my niece and it taught her to spend her money where she is wanted and appreciated. I will NEVER EVER visit this RACIST establishment AGAIN!!! read more

I have been here twice and this place strikes me as a the classic Asian restaurant that is accessible to regions that don't have Asian restaurants, but is also stuck in the predicament of not being able to provide good food due to low interest and thereby low revenue. I feel bad classifying this restaurant as such, as it does have an authentic vibe toward its food. The service is spotty as they are well understaffed and food wait time are slow when dining in. Food price are low, and I really blame this as one of the factors toward understaffing and lack of fresher ingredients. Let's talk about the food: Good ingredient quality is essential toward classic Vietnamese dishes, as much of the dishes incorporate fresh and raw ingredients. I am not impressed by the quality of vegetables used in this restaurant, as they seem stale, less fresh. It actually really reminds me of the ingredients at Saigon Noodle House in Crofton, MD. The banh mi here is alright- but it hinges on the quality of the vegetables which lack in refreshing quality. Note that banh mi sandwiches are $5 which is on par to still be more expensive than sandwiches in actual Saigon. The curry here is a bit off, so thai food is not exactly their forte. I will also comment that certain noodle/vermicelli dishes are excessively salty. I would still recommend coming here -- but you need to set your bar really low and have a lot of free time available. read more

Pho is very good. I try to stop in when I am in the area. I find that the slices of flank are thicker than some other places. Since I am usually traveling when I stop I do not order the beer they offer. I am not sure they carry Tiger 33 but that is the beer I think of while eating here. read more

Went for lunch/dinner (Linner?) with my son and daughter. We ordered the grilled pork bahn mi, seafood pho and crispy calamari. The pork was delicious but the bread was crunchy and flaky and there was just too much of it. The ratio of bread to meat was definitely off but I guess that what you get for $5.50. The crispy calamari was good and they gave us a good portion of it. For only $6.50 this dish was a good deal. The seafood pho was very good abd easily enough for 2 meals. I ate half at the restaurant and just added more shrimp when I got home so my husband could eat the other half. The service was friendly and I definitely think they care about their customers but the food was slow considering we were the only ones in there. Took about 15 minutes to get the calamari and another 10-15 minutes to get the meals even though I ordered everything at the same time. *shrugs* I'd go again, maybe the kitchen will be quicker the next time. read more

We ordered some spring rolls and they were fresh and tasty too filled with the noodles, lettuce, basil, thin slice of pork and shrimp. The grilled shrimp and papaya salad was the best. Thin julienned papaya tossed with a vinaigrette with a hint of fish sauce and citrus had a lot of flavor and was very refreshing. They also have banh mi sandwhiches and traditional rice dishes as well that I can't wait to try. One tip is that keep in mind it is a family run restaurant and the we came in at the peak dinner time hour and the food did take a little longer than the chains but keep in mind the food is fresh and worth it, just order an appetizer or two like we did and you'll be fine. read more

The only thing we did not lioe is when my wife asked for green tea (Hot) it did not come in a teapot like they usually serve at asian restaurants. However, another table got a teapot for their tea. Maybe the did not have other teapots but maybe mentioning it while serving the tea would help the customer understand. The Pho was awesome BTW and so was the Shrimp Tempura. Our group was looking forward to our meal here. The ratings were quite good so we thought we would give it a try. The spring rolls were excellent and so was the pho, grilled beef and pork entrees. Under the specialties of the house was a rotisserie half chicken which sounded good, clarified that it was, in fact, fried chicken which was okay with us since we've had asian fried chicken done by different countries. We ordered 2 of these. When i saw it came out, it looked really dry. My husband bit into his chicken leg and said it was tasteless and dry. I thought he was just complaining so I suggested he dip it in the sauce they gave. He said it was the worst chicken he has ever eaten in his life. Anyway, I ignored his complaints and but into my chicken thigh and had to agree with him. We were picking on the chicken to see if there were edible/moister sections. It WAS a total waste at nearly $40 for the two orders (with tax and tip) I mentioned this to the very nice guy in charge and he didn't seem to care. My husband had to order pho so he could have a meal. Upon paying, I mentioned it again, hoping he would take off one of the charges for the chicken (they saw the amount left over) but no luck there. Let me start with the fact that I am an extraordinarily picky eater. Everything doesn't love my sensitive tummy and my tastebuds don't love alot either. With that as a frame of reference, let me start with I'm not sure why this place doesn't have 5 stars. I have eaten Pho ALL over the DC, MD, VA area and for this area of MD - it is THE BEST. My hubster had the seafood Pho and it was delish. Try the Vietnamese Beef Stew (not the spicy one), add 2 small dishes of the Thai chili sauce to the broth along with the usual basil and bean sprouts - YOUR WELCOME. It is SO ridiculously good! And I usually don't like taste of the beef at these places but this beef was tender and flavorful and well seasoned. And the carrots were so "carrot-y" in the dish and melted in your mouth like cotton candy but not in a mushy way. Hard to explain - just trust me. This dish is the TRUTH!!! We also had the salt and pepper wings as an appetizer based on another Yelp review and they are a home run too! Make sure you get the Thai chili sauce for those too - it seems to compliment everything the have and I'm not normally a chili sauce girl because I can't handle very spicy things. It's more sweet than spicy. Finally, beverages - the coconut water is AMAZING. It's not like the coconut water you can buy at the store - this has some added simple syrup or something. SO nutty and sweet! Like dessert - yum, yum, yum! But seriously guys, I have saved the BEST for last - insert dramatic pause here - the Brazilian coffee Boba though!!! AH-MAZING! SO COFFEE-EY and sweet. It's like your perfect sweet coffee from Dunkin - on the day they got it *just* right X 10. Seriously - I live!!
