two bowls of food on a table

Very disappointing. We ordered Dumplings (fried), Kung Pao Chicken, and Beef w/garlic sauce... what we got was more like Kung Pao Celery and Celery w/garlic sauce. At least 2/3 of the dinners were comprised of celery. The slight positives were the dumplings, of which there were a lot (8) and they were tasty even if slightly underdone. The sauces did have decent flavor, but the egregious overuse of cheap veggies as filler will prevent us from trying this place a 2nd time.

Kung Pao Delight. Mostly celery and missing the broccoli. Very little meat and flavor.

Ordered the Kung Pao Delight. Mostly celery and missing the broccoli. Very little meat and flavor. The crab rangoons and egg rolls were decent. Probably won't go there again.

Indecisive over Chipotles tofu, or the local Chinese tofu. We were extremely happy with local. Two big plates and a drink for 18 bucks

Wow, this place is great! My girlfriend and I are definitely coming back every weekend. We are vegan, so we eat tofu, but they crisp it perfectly and cover in general tso sauce. DEFINITELY worth trying, even if you eat meat. You'll be extremely confused as to why "tofu" tastes so damn good! Extremely delectable food, great service, good portions per price, and great prices all around. You get a 5 on my yelp Also, the vegetable love mein was wonderful

This is a short review based on my first (but definitely not last!) visit. Will update in the…read morefuture. Was heading home from airport after a long flight. Was feeling hangry because I had planned on stopping at Hard Times for a bowl of chili -and found out they were closed on Mondays. So, pretty much pulled a name out of a hat and would up at Chuan Tian Xia because, well, Szechuan cooking uses chiles, no? Yesssss! I ordered Signature Dumplings and a bowl of Beijing-style Beijing-style Zhajiang Noodles. The dumplings were outstanding: a mix of shrimp, pork, and chive that were plump, juicy, fragrant with the herbaceous flavor of chives. The accompanying sauce was not too sweet, not too hot, just right as a complement to the dumplings. Yowza. I was a happy camper... ...and then I dug into my noodles. Double yowza! Thick wheat noodles topped with a rich sauce made from (I think) fermented soybean paste and braised pork belly, garnished with cucumbers. The portion was way to big for me to eat after my flight, but I really, really enjoyed it (and the remaining dumplings) for lunch today. Did I say yowza? I'm an adventurous eater so the menu's less Americanized items were what I would have ordered given more time (like Maoxuewang: can you say "pig's tongue, spam, pork intestine, and beef tripe"? Protein is protein, baby!). Just means I need to come back, and I will, as quickly as I can.

Came here after a long day from a convention. My friends and I were hungry and wanted to give this…read morea try and it did not disappoint! Everything was so flavorful and was great! We had the Ma Po Tofu, chive dumplings, sesame chicken, and noodles and out of all of those, the noodles and Ma po tofu were our favorites! Service was quick and the restaurant was very spacious and accommodating.

Lao Sze Chuan is a new-ish (open since January 2025) Sichuan restaurant that took over the space Busboys and Poets used to occupy. It's a huge space, but they did a great job renovating it, and it feels light and bright and modern - very comfortable. It's huge though - so I hope people know it's there and are ordering takeout/delivery or stopping by a for a meal in person! The service was very friendly and very fast, so it's a great spot for an in-person meal, too! Their menu is as large as the restaurant space, so there's something for everyone! They definitely have a lot of Sichuan dishes, but if you're not up for Sichuan, they have some other dishes that might fit the bill: dim sum (plenty of dumplings and buns), lo mein, fried rice, Peking duck, basil eggplant, Mongolian beef, and more... On Saturday at the restaurant, my husband and I shared a pot of white tea and a few dishes: crystal shrimp dumplings; pork soup dumplings; spicy tofu skin strips (shredded tofu skin tossed with Sichuan-style chili oil, peppercorns, and spices for a bold, numbing and spicy flavor); spicy and sour fish fillets (tender fish fillets simmered in a flavorful broth with pickled mustard greens, garlic, and Sichuan spices); a side of white rice for the fish; and red bean paste pumpkin cakes for dessert. When we ordered delivery in February, we shared: vegetable steamed dumplings; Yu-Shiang Eggplant Roll (tender eggplant braised and rolled in a traditional Sichuan Yu-Shiang sauce, offering a perfect balance of sweet, sour, savory, and spicy notes); crispy salty chicken (bite-sized chicken pieces deep-fried and seasoned with basil); salt & pepper pork chops (crispy fried pork chops tossed with onions and jalapeño peppers for a bold and savory flavor); and a side of white rice). I've enjoyed everything we've eaten (although I wouldn't recommend the crispy dishes for delivery for obvious reasons - I can't resist salt & pepper pork chops sometimes even though I know it doesn't travel the best), and I love how broad the menu is. I can't wait to return to try more of their dishes!

We sat there for 15 minutes after we were finished and I finally had to get up and ask the hostess if she could ask our waitress for to go containers. As for the food it was quite good. The dumplings in spicy chili oil were very good. The shrimp fried rice was fine, nothing too special. The general tsaos chicken was good. The dry fried green beans were very good and the lemon shrimp was decent.

The spice levels for the sichuan pepper-centric dishes were the star but never overpowering or too spicy. And surprisingly, the pricing for each of the dishes were so low compared to the experience I was getting. Like I kept thinking how can this product be this good but this cheap? They're delicious, although, as on previous visits, they tend to be quite oily. Fortunately, that's easily remedied by blotting them with a paper towel. I ordered the Braised Beef Noodle Soup. I don't remember any decor, but what's the most important? Food. I was pleasantly surprised by the cost to amount ratio and the taste. They executed the dishes well. I like their Potato Eggplant dish which isn't prominent in other Chinese restaurants in the area. It wasn't busy at the time we were there on a Friday night so we had excellent service. Our servers spoke English and Chinese. Attentive and the food came out really quick. Overall, I would come back. It's not a spot to impress or to dress up to go, but if you're hungry and want a casual Chinese food spot, that's also authentic enough to bring a Chinese person, this is definitely worth a try.

We are very much Thai fans, and the possibility of a great Thai place with great sushi was sounded almost too good to be true. And it was. Perhaps it's the dearth of quality Asian cuisine here in the Annapolis area that has falsely produced such high marks for Nova, but we found our fare to be adequate at best. (Two from our dinner party opted for the descriptor of "meh") The ambiance is cute - clean, bright, with exceptionally friendly (and numerous!) waitstaff. Our servers were helpful and attentive and we had high hopes for the experience. We started with three sushi rolls: Edgewater, Yoda, and one other whose name escapes me . The rolls were good. Not earthshatteringly good - just solid. Like a dependable Chevy truck. We also tried the sizzling steak and the chicken pad Thai. Both were almost over sauced. The pad Thai had a nice sour note (a hallmark of the dish) but it almost felt like the noodles were swimming in the sauce and, in my opinion, the noodles began to break down as a consequence. The sizzling steak felt cloyingly sweet to me - but the others in the group were quite as put off as I was. Again - making the meal simply "fine" As much as we hoped to find that hidden gem - we found that we need to continue our search for Asian cuisine in the area
