Was recently visiting friends in Annapolis and they suggested making the short 15 min drive across the Thomas Johnson Bridge (or what the locals refer to as the Solomons Bridge) into nearby Edgewater to have dinner at Nova. I usually approach suburban sushi joints with a bit of trepidation, but tbh, I had an excellent experience here. Located in a cookie-cutter strip mall, the place was PACKED on a Friday night. The interior could also be described as "any Asian restaurant in America" with tile flooring, dark hardwood furniture, a large sushi bar, and generic art pieces on the wall. We started with an appetizer of Edamame and small bottles of hot sake. The soybeans were steamed in their pods and lightly salted and had that addictive quality which paired well with the slightly sweet and acidic flavor profile of sake. Sushi plate arrived about 10 minutes later, and again for suburb sushi, I was pleasantly surprised. Standouts included: * spider roll - Deep fried soft shell crab is a standard bearer and is a reflection of the sushi chefs skills. Crab had a light batter and wasn't overly oily. * Spicy scallop - Anytime a place advertises a dish as being spicy, my default is it will be "American level spicy." The scallops tasted fresh and didn't have any slimy texture (unlike at some places). Cucumber and tempura bits added a nice crunch; spicy mayo was more sweet than adding any heat. * Wicked Tuna Roll - Actually, quite good. Inside the roll contained spicy tuna, cukes, onions; which was then topped with cuts of tuna and a jalpeno "salsa." All of the contrasting flavors complemented each other. Service was as expected. Wait staff arrived within 3 minutes of initial seating, kept water glasses filled, and frequently stopped by to check on us. Arrived here for dinner and was seated immediately. The customer service was great, waitress was attentive and gave us some recommendations. We ordered shrimp tempura and spring rolls for appetizers. They were delicious! We ordered the lobster roll; it was a large portion and only tried a few pieces as we began to feel full. Our entrees were General Tso and Seafood plate. The portions size was shareable, hot, flavorful, and great price. We had a great time and will visit again! read more

Seeing rave Yelp reviews for Nova, we decided to venture over to Edgewater to see if we had a hidden gem nearby. We are very much Thai fans, and the possibility of a great Thai place with great sushi was sounded almost too good to be true. And it was. Perhaps it's the dearth of quality Asian cuisine here in the Annapolis area that has falsely produced such high marks for Nova, but we found our fare to be adequate at best. (Two from our dinner party opted for the descriptor of "meh") The ambiance is cute - clean, bright, with exceptionally friendly (and numerous!) waitstaff. Our servers were helpful and attentive and we had high hopes for the experience. We started with three sushi rolls: Edgewater, Yoda, and one other whose name escapes me . The rolls were good. Not earthshatteringly good - just solid. Like a dependable Chevy truck. We also tried the sizzling steak and the chicken pad Thai. Both were almost over sauced. The pad Thai had a nice sour note (a hallmark of the dish) but it almost felt like the noodles were swimming in the sauce and, in my opinion, the noodles began to break down as a consequence. The sizzling steak felt cloyingly sweet to me - but the others in the group were quite as put off as I was. The food, service, and atmosphere were all great. We ordered crispy salmon rolls, salmon skin rolls, a yoda roll, a Green Bay roll, king crab roll(actually real crab), and a Philly roll. All were good except for the yoda and Philly roll, which were ok. The service was fast and our waitress refilled our waters frequently. Got a large to go order from here today (note to self, don't order when very hungry). While there were some very good rolls, two of them highly disappointed us. For future we will always get the spicy tuna, crazy eel, unagi sushi, and Alaska. The American dream was still decent because of the variety of fish though every time we've had it the wrapper falls apart. The major disappointment was the Chesapeake bay roll, never again. I in fact started choking on it because the wrapper does not chew apart well and I had to dig it deep out of my throat (pull out whole). 95% of this roll was lettuce and the most expensive- close to $19 I'm not one to have something sent back but if we ordered this in the restaurant, I definitely would not accept this roll. My family and I have been coming here for years and it's some of the best sushi around, period. Try the tuna dumpling appetizer for an outrageously luscious treat and do not pass up the Green Bay roll, with mango and masago. Yummy! read more

Sushi was mid, & it took a long time for the miso soup to come out. Our server (asian young lady with glasses) had a pretty condescending demeanor towards me and my friend, honestly felt very racial motivated since me and my friend are of color and we were speaking our native language at the table most of the time.... Also I asked if they had mango sticky rice for dessert ( most asian restaurants do ) she replies with an attitude saying "this isn't a Thai restaurant" ok my bad?? wouldn't recommend, there is better sushi in annapolis like Yama in West st & Joss in Downtown annapolis. read more

I travel for business and eat out too much. That being said, this establishment continues to offer great food, great service and great prices in a clean location. What more do you desire? I used to go into Annapolis for my sushi fix. I have not been there for years because of Nova. You would not expect the quality from a strip mall location, but they deliver. My husband ordered a love boat and I will just let him get it because he's been wanting a laptop that we came back to the mainland. Octopus on the boat it's really tasty. My Gyoza was cooked perfectly I also had some sort of some sushi that had eel on it. I can't remember the name but that was pretty tasty too. Not bad at all! Recently got takeout on a visit to family and we all enjoyed our food very much. We got a few of the sushi rolls to try out. Overall not bad. The spicy tuna had a lot of filling, which was good. We read on Yelp to try to Asian style nuggets, and they didn't disappoint. While they were smaller than I'd expected, they were well-seasoned with a nice spice mix. Vegetable tempura appetizer was a lot of food for the price, and a good variety of veggies. Would get this again. I also read that the beef lo mein is the best, but they were out of beef that day, so we opted for chicken. It was okay; maybe next time, beef lo mein. The chicken and broccoli dish was also a pleasant mix of well-cooked vegetables and lots of pieces of chicken. All in all, pretty decent! read more

Had dinner here with a friend for the first time tonight. Doesn't look like much from the outside in a shopping center that has a lot of vacancies. Went inside and only one table left and then people waiting after we were sat. Sashimi Plate was great with good sized portions. Miso soup was great. My friend had a couple of their maki rolls. Highly recommend. Only complaint would be $10 for a Sapporo tall boy. read more

Ordered the house salad, crispy calamari, California roll, shrimp tempura roll and the Edgewater roll. Everything was very good I'd notice the service to along time they were crazy busy. Also the seaweed paper was very dry and unraveled on the tempura roll where roll pieces kept falling apart. Heard allot of great reviews about this place. I hope they figure out how keep up with their growing business. I will try again for lunch when it's not as busy for my second try. Sunday afternoon lunch at Nova was wonderful. Arrived just as the restaurant opened and we were seated immediately. This restaurant seems like a local favorite as the restaurant quickly filled up with diners and people picking up carry out orders. We ordered a few dishes: seaweed salad, avocado rolls and the sushi special which came with a choice of soup or salad. My friend went with Miso soup. The food was really good. Gobbled up the seaweed salad, The Pad Thai (with chicken and shrimp) wasn't too spicy, noodles were cooked to perfection and the portion was just right. My friend loved the sushi platter. Would like to visit in the evening to see if there'd be music playing because it could make for a nice way to begin a Friday night. read more

An unassuming sushi bar located in a grocery mall in Edgewater MD. This small eatery has few seats, but they are spacious and the atmosphere is somewhat cozy. Staff is very friendly, and service is fast. The sushi here is good, but a bit on the saucy side. They do have some unique rolls that are not on menus at other nearby sushi places. Definitely worth giving a try to sample some of their signature rolls. Maybe you can even ask for light sauce or sauces on the side too. read more

This is our favorite sushi place in the area. They are consistently good. I am a big sashimi eater and the pieces of fish are always nice and thick. My husband appreciates that there is the perfect balance of rice and fish in their rolls. Horrified by the service this last visit. I just got back home from a cross-country business trip and was rushed from the moment I walked in. (I arrived at 8:16pm and they close at 10pm) I do not appreciate the attitude that I was being done a favor to be served at a restaurant when your position is indeed just that. A server.
