Service: Reservations are necessary, even though the ski season is over because of reduced seating due to COVID. We had an reservation for 20:00 but stopped by early just-in-case something had opened up and they graciously accommodated us. Jeremy was above and beyond friendly - compared to a lot of the service we had experienced in Vail during our time there - made great recommendations for cocktails (that weren't on the menu) and was v attentive. Food: WOWOWOW. Haven't had this much gastronomical fun in a while. Their menu seems seasonal when comparing what was available vs what we saw on Yelp. Also, "small plates" were a misnomer, they are a fair-size appetizer for 1-2. Scallop ceviche - thin chips, a table favourite. Steak tartare - I liked this. Not overly raw as they can be at times. The accompanying scarpetta made each bite unique. Pappardelle - al dente with a really delicious wine reduction. Sometimes arugula, asparagus and mushrooms can have an overpowering flavour but the spring veggies in this were great, not overdone and flavored well. Cocktails - Balked a bit at the NYC prices, but they were beautiful, delicious and very generous. Dessert - we got the pot de creme and the zeppolis. The former was dense and despite not usually enjoying alcoholic desserts, the cognac cream really balanced the chocolate well. The zeppoli was a much more sophisticated take on the zeppolis you'll find at fairs - crispy texture with a creamy center courtesy of the ricotta. Runs a touch more bitter than sweet, but not at all in a bad way. Decor: Just because I wanted to add another category, it's beautiful inside. The tables are on the smaller side, but with luxe materials like velvet and gold. It's a great date or romantic meal or if you were just in a mood to dress up. I love this place sometimes. Tonight there were two setbacks: (1) bread and butter and pasta took 60min from ordering despite only one other table eating in the restaurant.. (2) a very obnoxious party next to us (fine) but seemed to be friends with 2 of the 3 waitstaff/bartenders... they were so loud and got told by their waitress friends to quiet down (appreciated but not quite enough). It just makes it twice as annoying for food to take that long when your waitress is having her Saturday night out with the group next to you... We really enjoyed this place. My only gripe is that this are actually a tavern with small plates not a true tapas restaurant, and I wish we clued into this before making a reservation. We are vegetarian, and options for us were pretty limited- olives, mushrooms, veggie plate, babaganoush (and that is it). The Somme/owner was lovely to chat with. He's from Oregon and he was interesting to hear his perspective. We had the Smockshop Oregon Pinot wine from the Columbia Valley and it was incredible. It's a pricey meal, but a great vibe. So... we ended up here for drinks after a day out of snow activities. We are so glad we did. During our trip to Vail, this was the BEST spot for drinks. We had John as our bartender, and he went above and beyond. First, let me say that this is a bar where you can tell your bartender what you like to drink, and he will create something from the flavor profile. Needless to say, John created a delicious cocktail which I really enjoyed. They also have a great bourbon selection which my boyfriend loved. Their food is tapas style, so we ordered a few plates to share. We ordered the Pickles, which was butternut squash, spicy egg, baby carrots all pickled. I really enjoyed them. If you like that pickled taste and the tang, you will enjoy this. The House Meatballs were also really good, and they are basically veal, beef and pork, braised fennel marinara, pistachio tarragon pesto, and Parmigiano Reggiano. If you are sensitive to spice, you will definitely feel a little bit of a kick with these. Then we ordered the pork cheeks and the steak, which came on skewers. The burnt cheesecake... DO NOT PASS THIS UP. It was delicious. Everything tasted really good, and I would order it all again if we dined here in the future. We had the garbanzo flat bread which was amazing as well as a penicillin which was basically a spiked turmeric juice (think project juice). Do yourself a favor and go. This place reminds me so much of Washington, D.C. my husband and I were staying in Vail and we happened to come when it was off season. Unfortunately, not a lot of places were open, but this gem was. It's very small, but also very intimate. I would say this place is here for a before dinner drink or an after dinner drinks and light bite place. My husband and I stopped in because I was craving a good cheeseboard and it was pretty late at night, but they were opened and ready to seat us.
