Best fried chicken I've had in some time. The fried chicken is a big step above other fast food such as KFC. The menu prices are slightly above fast food prices but then again the quality is as well. When we were there the tables were full but we managed to find a free one. This place looks to be extremely popular with the locals and rightfully so. We had the fried chicken and it was best thing everyone in our group had. The macaroni and cheese was delicious, the fries were okay, and the biscuits could use some improvement. Although I drowned mine in butter and honey to compensate. Service was top-notch and helpful. Maven brought knives and forks to our table and saved me a 10 foot trip to where the beverages and utensils are. Afterwards I felt guilty about the amount of fried chicken I'd consumed. We had a really bad experience. Ordered chicken sandwich and tenders. Wait was over an hour as I guess a fryer was down? Chicken sandwich came out cold, Nashville hot chicken tenders were dried out and not spicy at all. Mac N Cheese was a cup of tasteless elbows no cheese and needed salt, badly. Some of THE BEST fried chicken I have EVER eaten in my life (we're from Texas so we know southern fried chicken). I had the regular and my husband tried the Nashville Hot- both were amazing and we ate every bite. The sides were also outstanding- homemade mac and cheese (no kraft box stuff here), collard greens, homemade fried okra, cheese grits loaded with real bacon chunks and green onions, and fresh steamed broccoli. Every bite was incredible. Topped of with hot fresh homemade biscuits and honey. The only downside was the 30 minute wait for food after ordering, but they were up front and made sure we knew they were running behind before we ordered. Seriously good chicken. Like really good. Like so good you'll eat here for lunch and dinner in the same day. Sides amazing too. Tall boys of craft beer completes the package. Smallish indoor and outdoor seating area with only partial shade. During busy periods it can be tough to get a spot. Pricing was also pretty nice. I'm not going to say I moved to Bozeman 5 months later because of Roost... buuuuut.. it was definitely one of the main pulling points! These guys do fried chicken right.. in every way. I got the Nashville chicken breast and there was only one thing wrong with it... I should've ordered 2! Juicy, moist, flavorful, spicy, crisp, and well priced...easily some of the BEST fried chicken I've ever had! Their fries were the perfect pairing to soak up all the juices. The staff is very friendly, and they try, but it almost seems like they don't get much training, as the operation is chaotic, and that's putting it nicely. 8 out of 10 times I've been here, a part of the order is forgotten. If picking up a to go order, I try to check it thoroughly before I leave. I've had several pickups that ended in disappointment when I opened the bag at home to find less than what I ordered. The last few times I've tried to call in an order, no one answers the phone, and their website order page hasn't worked either. Is anyone still managing this place? Not as good as our last visit in 2014. Take out order wasn't ready because the gal who took it was off the clock and failed to turn it in. Then once the food came it was just OK. Chicken still fabulous, tender, crispy and not too much breading. The mashed potatoes lacked flavor except for pepper, grits lack luster, broccoli fine. Cheese sauce and gravy super thick and so so. This is a must if you're going to Bozeman. We love to come here when we're heading home after a ski day at Big Sky. The chicken and waffles are wonderful, they use some sort of maple pecan butter on the waffles and it is fantastic. My boyfriend got the hearty chicken stew, it's seasonal for winter, perfect after skiing in the cold all day. It came with a couple biscuits and it soaked in some of the stew that almost made it into chicken and dumplings. You can't go wrong with the chicken strip basket accompanied with the Come Back sauce, which taste similar to a fry sauce. You won't regret getting it! This was our first time at The Roost. In a word: FANTASTIC! As we had never been there before it was pleasant to be greeted and "walked through" the menu and options by a friendly employee. When we placed our order, the greeter described the sides and, as we debated the size, she very accurately suggested we go for the small, rather than the large we were going to order--how many times does that happen? BOY was she spot on! We opted to share their half basket with two biscuits and two sides--broccoli salad and potato salad. Turned out to be a good decision, as after the wonderful deviled egg appetizer, our appetites were more than satisfied. The egg appetizer SUPERB, chicken was PERFECT, the salads GREAT! Roost is a classic and very popular spot in Bozeman, during normal times (not COVID) there's minimal seating and it gets very crowded, so it's easier to take out than try to eat inside. The food is good but it's pretty spendy for the amount that you get.. chicken on a stick is $5 and it's a veryyy small amount of food. Roost is a fun treat, but not somewhere we will frequent because of the cost and quantities. read more
