The good: No crowd for dining...even on Father's Day! Friendly staff. Historic building and interior. Got a table with a good view of Bozeman Main Street bustle. Really good background music at the perfect volume for dining. The bad: There are reasons for no dinner crowd* Here the dining used to Be a delicious culinary experience. Now, the experience is, no vision, no direction, no Bacchus-Better-Half (unless you consider the 'pub' to be the better half instead of the dining). Even the god of merriment knows great food goes hand-in-hand with refreshing libations. Sadly, it would seem the menu was forgotten after the first happy hour drinks were served. Tsk. Tsk. The anticipated experience: Sometimes I just get a craving for a favorite kind of food and nothing else will satisfy. This is the case of a timeless classic, The Rubin Sandwich. I am a lover of the Rubin and have been all my adult life. The pan fried Rye bread. The thick juicy center of corned beef, the tang of the mouthwatering sauerkraut that adds great flavor and helps to prevent a dry sandwich, and most of all. The amazing taste of traditionally made Thousand Island dressing...critical to the composition of the piece, dare I say, Masterpiece? Uhh...well, no. I daren't say that word. The reality experience: Forget everything I just described above (save, dry sandwich... and substitute that for 'crossing-the-Sahara-dry-cottonmouth dry sandwich'). I wish ,if only, I could stop there. Alas, it was horrifyingly only the beginning of everything that was wrong with the experience. What can I say? Everything from toasting the over abundant slices of bread before they were assembled and fried on a grill as a whole sandwich, to the somehow missing the fact that one of the two sandwiches ordered (mine) was sans sauerkraut (I mean like zero amount of the canned cabbage was included on my sandwich), to the most egregious culinary violation of the evening, the Thousand Island dressing! Oh it had a pinkish colored condiment, all right. The best I could determine, mayo and ketchup (but not tasty like secret sauce à la McDonalds Big Mac.. a sandwich I found myself wishing I had ordered at that moment). Oh no. It was as blaise and bland and tasteless as a goopy substance could possibly be. Thousand Island? Uhh... no. Maybe the 1001st Island ? To think I even asked for more to help my aqua-challenged pallet! I sadly worked over the sans-wich with a faint glimmer of hope that I would cull at least something good from this culinary catastrophe. Reality set in. This was no Rubin. It was no sandwich at all. It was a $25 (x2) heist from my wallet. For real. I'd been heisted and nothing would undo this experience. The real kicker: My own brother, not only recommended THIS sandwich from THIS establishment a few months ago, he went so far as to say, 'the best Rubin in town.' Really? No not really. For real. Apparently Yaleys (the owner reputedly attended the posh Ivy League college) know nothing of preparing proper Irish fare. This menu item doesn't even warrant a 1 star out of 5. Zero stars for the arid anomaly. I'll keep my overall rating at 3 stars for the dining experience; keep in mind, the restaurant was a 5 star experience back in the day (of taste and hydration). That said, if you're heading there to catch World Cup games, be warned, they won't turn the audio on for matches, which feels pretty off brand for a European ish Pub. Kind of hard to get into the atmosphere and staff is a little evasive about giving a solid answer on turning it on. Fix that and this place would be a home run. read more

As we were looking for a cute and casual place for a drink and snack to share, we saw this cool spot & popped in! Our bartender was nice and checked on us frequently. The old fashioneds were 8/10 and we agreed that the wings were roughly 7/10. They actually had good flavor even though the photo doesn't look like it and the cook on them was pretty good. Would've enjoyed more of a dry rub on the outside for extra flavor. The Caesar salad was 5/10 and mostly bland, with a lot of the lettuce being the white/end-part of a lettuce head (especially at the bottom). Overall, decent food but good drinks & atmosphere! Came here for a bite to eat, a cold drink, and some live music and wasn't disappointed by any of it. Had no problem getting seats at the bar and we were taken care of right away. They also had options for table seating indoors and out. Bar has a great Irish beer hall kind of vibe to it that definitely brought me back some fond memories. Cocktail to start was the Bozeman fog, basically a boozie London fog, that was quite tasty, but could have been shaken a little better. We split the hunter fries and the Mediterranean salad. The fries were basically a pouting that would even make a French Canadian blush with a delicious brown gravy, you can't go wrong. Bacchus had great food prices compared to all the other restaurants along Main St. that we checked. The only discernible flavor came from the coleslaw. I would not order this again. They did include an absolute heap of fries. My husband got a hit dog with curry and he did enjoy that. Having a stop over in Bozeman before heading home we were wandering around downtown. We stopped here for an earlier dinner. It was warm and sunny so we sat outside. We were served pretty quickly by a super friendly server. We ordered some sandwiches and got them fairly quickly. The turkey club was delicious. Very fresh and tasty. Still one of our favorite little bars in Bozeman in the beautiful historic hotel. Stopped in today after doing a little shopping on Main Street. I got a hot toddy with Willie's. Bourbon,- a local one from Ennis, Montana. It was really good. My husband got a local Midas Crush IPA by MAP Brewing, which has been one of his favorites this trip. We were there for Happy Hour, 3-to 6 pm Sun-Thur. Food looked and smelled good, but didn't eat this time. Always a relaxing stop. read more

One thing about me is I love an Irish pub and this one was so cute! It was packed for lunch on the weekend. They have a decently large menu and a lot of local beers on draft. My fiancé and I split the curry fries, which were different than normal irish pub curry fries. It was a thick sauce with a spice. They were really good for something different. I feel like I made a mistake of getting the pub burger as it was just alright and the people next to us got the fish and chips which looked so good and was a large portion. My fiancé had the Shepard pie which was also great. The chips were also a little to burnt for my likening. read more

But, when my husband came here, we got a little bit more than curry fries. We ordered drinks (he got a beer, I got a cocktail) and we also got the curry fries to split (truly delicious), and then we each got an entree (definitely did NOT need to do this). For entrees - I got the Buffalo Chicken Salad (subpar - dry chicken) and he got the Reuben (not bad but not necessary). On top of that, there weren't enough people working so unfortunately service was a bit slow. But that wasn't too big of a deal for us. Well, where to begin. Location in Downtown is great. Sat outside on a Sunday evening. Not a busy night. 10 m8nutes after seating retrieved our own menus. 5 minutes later server stopped by to take drink orders and we too that opportunity to order food too. 10 minutes later I went to inquire about the beers. They had been poured and were sitting at the end of the bar while our server futzed around behind the bar for 5 munutes. My Son ordered their fries with with mushroom gravy and mozzarella sprinkles over the top. They must have run out of gravy. The bowl they came in would be a regular order of fries anywhere else. $15! I ordered the $25 fish and chips. And an extra side of tartar. Wife ordered the beef stew. Son asked for a side of Mayo with his Shepards Pie. Food came after the aforementioned comments about the appetizer. The beef stew had a flavor much resembling a tomato based vegetable soup. NOT like any stew I have EVER tasted. It wasn't a bad flavor, just not a stew flavor. My fish, was a very large portion of haddock, obviously battered freshly, but then waay overfried. It was served on top of fries that while cooked properly were as bland as they get. Oh and that extra tartar, has to be asked for again as did the mayo. Server didn't take the opportunity to get through order right promptly. Went behind the bar again fuddle around for couple of minutes, before eventually returning with the tartar....but no mayo AGAIN! The Shepard pie was so meh, my son, 31, not a kid, resorted to adding Cholula to it to give it something. His comment was it was seriously lacking in any seasoning. Had 5 beers and the food mentioned. $108. Not even close value, flavor, or service wise. Some training is in order for our server. Not sure that this place would survive someplace other than Bozeman. If this is usual fare. Maybe it was just a bad night. Bummer huh? At least the beer was Good, and Cold. $7/pint, great selection quite reasonably priced. read more

A beautiful old style bar located within the Baxter Historic Hotel on upper West Main St in Bozeman Montana. We decided to stop in to Whet the Whistle, so to speak. I'm so glad we did. It's beautiful in here with a cool vibe and vibrant atmosphere. The place is packed, with people who were watching sports on the many TV screens located above the bar. It seems like a mix of locals and tourists with some people just having drinks at the bar and more here for lunch. Service is a tad slow but apparently today they only have two servers. Ours was great, friendly and efficient. If you are in Bozeman, definitely pop in for some casual dining/drinks and soak up the history and fun atmosphere. read more

My hubby and I stopped here on our road trip. It was late and we were tired. This place was hopping! Located in a very cool building. This place has a lot of original decor & lots of history. Just look up to the monk heads on the top of the pillars. We sat down right away. We had a server greet us. She was very friendly. We tried a local IPA. Can't remember the name but good. We didn't want to sleep on a full stomach so we asked how their Reuben Sandwich was, she said it was one of the most popular item on the menu. Holy cow! This was one of the best I've tried. The Rye toast was a piece large piece. The sauerkraut and corn beef was perfect! Splitting it, along with some of their fried chips, which I normally don't like chips, was delicious. We did talk to a waiter who said we were at the bartender's table who would come to take our order shortly. However, it appeared that other people were tired of waiting for service so they just went up to the bar. The staff working was clearly overwhelmed and after a 4 day backpacking trip we were too hungry and thirsty to wait. We went to another place a couple of minutes walk away and had amazing service.
