Brewery visit #289 coming at you hot! BBC, hmmm, unfortunate initials but maybe I'm the only one that has that sense of humor. Oh well, anyway, Bozeman Brewing Company is a small spot with a warm atmosphere. A lot of breweries have gone to a cold glass and metal type decor which I don't particularly care for. Not here. It feels like your neighborhood bar but serving good beer. The place was busy at 3pm on a Friday but some bar space was still available. I recommend the Axolager Mexican lager for lighter beers. Pretty clearly a Mexican lager as it has that little corn flavor that pops really nicely on a hot day. Corn. Pops. See what I did there? I crack myself up with my punny Dad jokes! Gallatin pale ale was up next. A really good example of a pale ale with nice hop flavor and a little bitterness but with the maltiness smoothing it out. The Bozone select amber I tried in honor of SWPFTD who is not with me this trip. Thus is a good amber that would make SWPFTD happy. In fact with enough of them she would become SWPD. Yeah, I know you don't understand that. You are going to wonder about that until you leave this life. I'm not sorry... Last up was Plum St porter which was smooth with a nice roasty flavor mostly towards the end. I think I'm going to get a crowler of the Mexican lager to keep me company tonight. Cheers! If anyone is a glutton for punishment, please, follow my brewery, and distillery, reviews from across the U.S. and beyond! https://www.yelp.com/collection/-8iscFkpiiCI563-FDfwGg and if anyone is wondering who SWPFTD is you will have to check out my review of Black Market Brewing Co in Temecula, CA to understand. Yes, you will need to read into it a little to get the joke but I have confidence in you! I hope my confidence is not misplaced.

The Hey Bear Honey Kolsch. I do enjoy honeyed beers!
    Alden C.

Ah, another beer from another brewery out of Montana! Bozeman specifically! Steve and I enjoyed one beer from Bozeman Brewing Company, their honey kolsch. I do indeed love beers involving honey and their honey kolsch isn't bad. Perhaps the honey highlight wasn't as pronounced for which really gets me into a beer involving this ingredient but it was still enjoyable all the same and from the looks of it a popular seller for the brewery. It comes in at least one variant. There is a berry version of this honey kolsch so if you feel that's something you are interested in then you may want to pursue it. Personally for me and Steve we liked the original version best since we get burned out on berry beers fairly easily.

Really delicious beer! The service is also excellent. Also 10/10 appreciate that they have free popcorn.

Blood orange shandy and a Pilsner

Very down to earth brewing company with amazing beers. They include a wide range of selections, from blood orange shandies to porters. Everyone seems to know each other with a lot of the regulars talking with the bartenders. Even though this feels like a local watering hole we didn't feel uncomfortable, everyone is welcoming and incredibly friendly. It's a small place but very cozy, they do have a pool table. There is a bbq food truck that you can purchase food from, we didn't order any food but it smelled delicious. The brewery does have freshly popped popcorn, we tried the different bbq sauces they had at the table and each one offered it's own unique flair (spicy, tangy, mustard base, sweet.... they had it all!). We will definitely be back, we loved all the beers we tried and the relaxed/very casual atmospheres.

    Flight of beer

I'm a huge sour beer fan, so I was very excited to see that they had 4 sours on tap plus a very long list of bottled sour beers. We ended up getting a flight of the 4 sours (my favorites were the tropical and cranberry), and 4 samplers of the non sour beers. The honey and berry kolschs were light and refreshing - you can get them mixed together for a fun twist! The staff were warm and friendly. The tasting room is a bit small, but we were able to find a place to sit with ease. The free popcorn was also a nice touch!

It is a small location with limited seating in a casual environment. On warmer days, it is almost stifling inside. And the tasting room is subject to Montana's current arcane and anti-competitive rules with regards to hours of operation and a 3 beer per customer, per visit, limit. Despite this, the place has a good vibe and some most excellent beer. I am particularly fond of some of the regular offerings. The Bozone Select Amber Ale, Bozone Hefeweizen, and Bozone Plum St. Porter are all tasty beers, and worthy of your drinking time and money.

Buzz Kill Java Stout, featuring bowl of popcorn ... an exemplary combination.

For those seeking an unfiltered, authentic Bozeman experience, a visit to Bozeman Brewing Company -- located in an old pea factory and nestled alongside the lumberyards and train depots of Bozeman's oft-neglected Northeast side -- is a necessity. Atmosphere: In the "cozy" taproom (i.e. tiny and cramped, but in an endearing way) on a typical Friday afternoon, young upper-middle-class professionals rub shoulders (quite literally) with bearded ski bums and rugged old regulars, but the environment is that of unassailable cheer. The crowded confines offer BBC patrons a rather intimate experience that essentially forces strangers to mingle with strangers. In fact, sometimes BBC feels like stumbling into a convention of the friendliest people in Bozeman. (4.75 / 5) Beer: Obviously the most important part of any taproom, and fortunately, BBC offers the some of the best craft beer in Montana. Their Bozone Amber is a local classic (and was the foundation of my first college kegger), but forgo it in favor of their crisp and funky Hefeweisen or the Java Stout -- which is remarkably smooth and creamy, like a robust cup of black coffee mixed with good half-and-half. The seasonal rotators are hit-and-miss (mostly due to the brewery's noble knack for experimentation), but when they nail it -- like last fall's Terroir Fresh Hop Ale -- the results can be magnificent. (4.5 / 5) Food: There's no food except for popcorn (which is enough for me when I'm pounding down pints), but a BBQ truck operates out of the adjacent parking lot. (N/A) Overall: Regardless of how much time you have to spend in Bozeman, if you're a beer fan, make BBC a priority. You're guaranteed excellent craft beer, and if you're willing, some riveting conversation with a fascinating menagerie of locals and out-of-staters. (P.S. I don't know what "Heywood J." did to receive poor service, but not in my six years in Bozeman did I once receive nothing less than fantastic service here, even on my first visits when I was a total beer newbie.)

Service was fast. Atmosphere was really chill. We stopped in with our kids after snowmobiling and they were very accommodating. They have free popcorn. And toys sitting out if you bring the kids along. (Which was great for us) Pretty quaint place!

    Watery Hefe... Yuck!
    Sam P.

Ok, so I'm not a regular... But while in town I popped in for a pint. This place is "quirky" to say the least... Not a lot of seating, popcorn popped fresh (was never offered?), and nobody behind the bar(?) Don't even get me started on the music selection... Waited for a few minutes... Guy from back peeks head around corner, but walks in the "Employees Only" door and vanishes. A few minutes later the barkeep shows up from outside and I order a Hefe (5.4% and $3.50). It's really weak (as in watery, not cloudy, and nowhere near mysterious). Barkeep comes over to see how things are going (thank goodness!) He suggests the Baltic Porter (6.0% and $3.50). It's out of this world good! So good that the original rating for this review was going to be 2-stars... Now it's 4! Ok... Barkeep saves the day! I was going to be one and done... Thinking there's gotta be better places to go in Bozeman (And going to suggest that you should look for them too!)

    The Imperial IPA! Yum!

    Are dogs allowed anywhere?

We do not allow dogs inside, sorry. Our small tasting room isn't big enough for our patrons and their fury friends. You are more than welcome to put them out front on the sidewalk, there's a bowl or two with water out there for them. Cheers

**November 2025: Saturday Night**…read more My mom and I were looking for a spot to enjoy dinner that had parking. We drove around downtown Bozeman for a good 30 minutes, and didn't have any luck in securing parking. I found Mountain Walking Brewery and thought I'd take a chance and prayed that there would be a lot or that I would be super lucky with street parking. We were in luck and there was one very small spot near the front of the restaurant - hallelujah! The restaurant was poppin' - almost every table was taken, but we were offered bar seating and we gladly accepted. After purusing through the menu I decided that we should try a variety of items including a side of Brussels sprouts, Bowl of Bison Chili, and a Fig and Arugula Pizza. Service was quick and we got all our items in a pretty timely manner. The pizza had a really great crust the dough had a nice bounce to it. I think for me they were a tad overly generous with the balsamic vinegar glaze which made the pizza quite salty. I would definitely order a pizza again but perhaps the Margherita or the Carnivore. The bison chili was a good standard bowl and the brussel sprouts while crispy was also very salty - I think it was definitely over dressed, but maybe since the majority of patrons were drinkin the salty foods would pair well. Seems like a fun place to hang out, but for me I'd probably pick anything that doesn't have glaze or soy sauce.

Great service from our server. Checked on us often and filled up our waters. Food: Because it was our first meal here, we wanted to try out their staple dishes. -Bison Potstickers ($16): 5 pieces topped with mango and garlic chili sauce and served with some coleslaw. Rich and filling, paired well with the sauce. Would order this again! -Bison Patty Melt ($22): it was my first time eating Bison, the waiter suggested medium rare. We, not being from Montana, looked at it as if he'd handed us a random appendage from his body, no doubt. All we were trying to do was pay for our drink - ha.
