I have heard great things about Richardson's/Rokerij so I was excited to finally visit. Valet is the only way to go here. We actually started our night with reservations at Richardson's, which is right next door. Literally, you can walk between the two restaurants via the patio seating. After an incident with our original table on the patio and a bird, we ended up seated inside at Rokerij. Considering it was our Christmas Eve dinner, we were hoping the night would be recovered. Luckily, it was! Kudos to the staff for getting us a new table on a crowded holiday evening and taking care of a few things. Things got off to a great start with our server who was amazing. She was on top of it and let us know about all of their specials. We started out with the bacon wrapped shrimp appetizer as we pursued the rest of the menu. The shrimp were fantastic, great flavor with a few different sauces on the plate. We then proceeded to order our entrees. I went with the lamb special, which came with a house salad with jalapeño ranch, and choice of two sides. I went with the mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts. The lamb also came with a jalapeño jelly and another fruit-like jelly which sadly I forget the name of. The lamb was delicious, the jelly's added great flavor, the brussel sprouts were grilled and tasty, and the mashed potatoes were good as well. I was a big fan of my meal. I also was impressed with the size and quality of the house salad, no skimpy lame salads here! It was tasty. I ended up with a TON of food. Others at the table ordered the fish trio special (salmon, swordfish, sea bass) which came with three house sauces, the green Chile potato and asparagus, the top sirloin with carrots and mashed potatoes, and the skewers (chicken, beef tenderloin, shrimp and sausage) which came with rice and beans. The top sirloin was just okay, but the other two dishes were definite hits from the mains to the sides. For dessert, the four of us split the flourless chocolate cake with raspberry topping. It was the perfect sweet to treat to end on. Overall, we had a nice evening with even better food. Our server was a rockstar and we had no complaints once she restarted our night and meal. For date night my hubby heard about this place and we decided to give it a try. Atmosphere: Was amazing. The hostess walked us through the kitchen and then downstairs to our seat. We had a cozy booth right by the bar. Customer Service: Our server was very attentive. He made sure we knew what the specials were and never left our lemonade refills empty. He checked on us regularly and grabbed whatever it was we needed. Food: The house salad was my favorite part! It was filled with peppitas, red bell pepper, cheese, spring onions, spring mix and ranch. With an added shake of salt and pepper, it was so good! Both main dishes lacked seasoning and needed a helping hand of salt and pepper. Both filets were cooked perfectly. My filet's king lobster meat was succulent. The only feedback I'd give is, to remove the cartilage. Not to fun to pull that out of your mouth mid bite. The potato had absolutely no flavor, so I added ranch to it. My husbands red chili enchiladas was very red chili powder forward. Wasn't his favorite. The bacon wrapped shrimp was super yummy and he enjoyed the green chili enchilada. All three (or is it 4 now), of these sister restaurants (Dicks hideaway, Rosie's, Richardson, and the basement) are solid food (errors on the spicy end of the scale), served in a very dark setting, with consistently great staff and rock solid consistency in the food quality. read more

You have to make a reservation! This place gets packed on the weekends. It is well worth it though. There was 7 of us, we were seated at a booth inside near the bar. Everything on the menu sounds so good and is delicious. I had the Richardson's combo with Benedict and chicken enchilada. I did not want to stop eating!! We had dinner here a few weeks ago and it was just OK. There is something that is missing here in terms of the flavor and execution. We ordered our steaks medium rare, and they were quite overcooked, but still flavorful. I will say that the appetizers were better than the main dishes. I have visited a few times on occasion and while the F&B is OK (not great), we like the atmosphere of Rokerij, Richardson's & Rosies. As a local Phoenix staple, I expected to have great service so we booked the private dining room at Rokerij. As our event approached, I attempted to contact the booking manager through email, phone & even in person. Unfortunately she proclaimed to be too busy to speak with me, even when I showed up in-person the day before our event. I had not heard back on confirming our event, guest count, and wanted to order a special drink & dessert to surprise my in-laws. After a dozen attempts to get a hold of them, it was apparent our business was not a priority to them. We cancelled and will not be returning. I ordered sea bass that seemed like defrosted Costco fish and was way overcooked, accompanied by some weird mash on top of an undercooked hatch chili and with overcooked charred cauliflower. Can't speak to to others in my group but nobody seemed to eat it all so not a good sign. Ambience (upstairs not cellar) is dated and dingy but fine. Wouldn't take a date but it was ok for a client lunch. Service was serviceable. I'd call it perfunctory. Very basic X's and O's with no personality or charisma, certainly no passion behind the food suggestions which now having eaten it seemed honest. I have been wanting to come for ages so I tried it for my birthday. Decided to come the day before instead for happy hour since they do not take reservation for a party under 4. Also, part of the reason I had wanted to come here for so long was due to all the stories of how cool the basement, stone lodge bar is. The bar is pitch black so be careful folks when you descend and land at the bottom. It is pretty small like three tables and a bar. I sat at the little tables they had set up by the heart fireplace. It was delightful and I bet glorious in the winter with the fire going. Not today of course. Ha! I could not see a darn thing. lol I had to get out my flashlight on my phone. Seth was my server and he was great. The onion rings were too die for delish, and the prickly pear Margarita hit the spot. The rings come with these four plate decoration types of different sauces that was so good I could drink them. I actually llcked the plate. Ha kidding, or am I? I got the adobe Sliders and I did not care for them but that is on me not them. Next time I will try the beef or prime rib sliders. It was all very good but a heads up it is not cheap, folks. This place was a hidden Gem. I've driven by before and never knew it existed. The place stays nice and dark with mostly candle lighting at night. Our server Holly was amazing. She was friendly snd paid attention to detail. That coolest part is that if you take the stairwell downstairs there's a bar underground also. Now let me tell you about this food. The salmon bites word very well done and the chipotle aïoli dip went very well together. It was a delicious combination. I followed that up with their steak topped with a king crab, now let me tell you that king crab was the highlight of my steak. Now, the steak was really good and the temperature was perfect but that king crab with the jalapeño hollandaise sauce was just on another level. The double baked potato really hit the spot also. The only thing I wasn't feeling too much were the cocktails in the restaurant area. I probably should have gone down to the bar for a drink. Very cool spot. Attached to Richardson's. We started at the patio bar and made our way down to the little speakeasy of Rokerij. We sat at the bar as all tables were reserved in the area. Had the bacon wrapped jalapeños and the tortilla it came with was amazing. We got 2 ribeyes, one was custom ordered to lobster to it, the way the dish the NY special. Also got a prime rib. It was the biggest hunk of meat I've ever seen. Also got the wings. They had a good spice and kick to them, and were dry rubbed as opposed to wet which worked well. read more

I brought my Father here for Father's Day in anticipation of a nice high quality dinner. It was anything but that. The service was great once we were seated however more into the evening the.disaster began. We were waiting 30 minutes in between seeing our server. It was hard to get refills on drinks, ordering cocktails and appetizers. When our food came several things were very wrong. Our steaks were charred. (They had to send it back to the chef). I love the bar at the Rokerij , I always go to the downstairs bar which is so nice and dark and cozy. Very relaxing environment with the dark candle lit tables. In the winter they have the fireplace going and they have nice big comfy chairs you can sit in and relax. The food is always amazing, I love their green Chile sauce and my husband loves the red sauce. The bartender Mattie is very helpful and knows the menu. I have been here many times and never have been disappointed. I will definitely be back again soon. They do have complementary valet which I'm not a fan of since I can park my own car, but besides that I have no complaints. read more

Great Smells, Good Food, Good Service, Great Sized Portions! Birthday date night went well here! This place had a nice cozy dimly lit ambience and the most wonderful smells in the air! I felt like it was a nice little cozy spot for some tasty food! I had the meatloaf, which wouldn't sound super awesome normally but was a great portion of mashed potatoes with a sort of Mexican style corn and a generous portion of delicious meatloaf with mushrooms all over the top! It was surprisingly delicious and best of all a good size portion big enough for a guy my size! This place is actually two restaurants in one which was slightly confusing we ended up in the bar side and one of the people there was kind enough to let us know we had reservations for the restaurant side which also had a bar and one is named a different name even though they are apparently the same company. Kind of confusing, but it seems good. I do not remember our waiter's name he was a guy in his mid to late 20s I would guess and he definitely tried to go out of his way to make us comfortable and make sure everyone in our group is happy. Some of our group tried things like the jambalaya which looked pretty tasty, also the pasta Heidi which looked pretty good too, surf and turf also arrived at our table but I didn't eat any of it because it wasn't mine. People seem to get touchy when you start stealing their food so I was a good boy this time. All in all I feel like I want to give this place 4.25 stars since there is a four or five star choice I end up stuck doing only four stars. Definitely a place I would go again but it is pretty far away from where I live so I am not sure how often I would be in the vicinity again in the future. After sitting for 20 mins the bartender asked them to wait on us. We ordered drinks and hors d'oeuvres. This is such a unique experience. The vibe is what I might describe as "modern upscale dungeon". My friend claims they have the best Expresso Martini! I like the prickly pear margarita, especially during happy hour. The bartenders make great drinks and are very friendly! They do have food and drink specials for happy hour. The food is great. I've been here many times and had always had a good experience, however, the most recent time might be my last for a while. We had gone with a group for a business dinner and had requested to sit in the basement. The host told us that he would get it ready for us and to wait for 5-10 minutes. He came out a few minutes later and told us, sorry, we actually have a VIP coming and could not provide us with that seat after all. The way he came across was pretty rude and made me feel kind of bad. So once we were seated we had a waiter who looked pretty unkempt greet us after about ten minutes. He seemed to me like he had just smoked a bunch of weed before he came to work. He was really goofy and didn't seem to understand our cocktail orders. I ordered a ranch water with Patron and I'm positive it did not have Patron in it. I've been drinking Patron forever and know what it tastes like. It took at least 15 minutes for our drinks to come out. When ordering our food I was having difficulty choosing between 2 entrees and he recommended the Schnitzel. He raved about it and said it was his favorite thing on the menu so I ordered it. It was awful! The chicken was not crisp, the noodles had no sauce and it was all sitting in about an inch of water. Then we decided to order a bottle of wine. When he finally came with the wine and wine glasses he broke one of the wine glasses over 2 people in our party leaving glass everywhere. Once we left, we realized the waiter also forgot to bring out our salads. This place has gone downhill. They need to hire waiters with more experience, especially at this price point. Absolutely loved this spot! The Restaurant it's self is big and has an indoor and outdoor seating. They have multiple bars. There is also even a downstairs area that you can eat that has some tables, a fire pit, and the bar with full menu of drinks and food. That area was my favorite! I was disappointed to find that I had been double charged on my credit card same..:charge times two. I called the restaurant and was told to call back and speak to the manager, Bill. I've made three attempts to call always get to voicemail. I've left a message. Never called back. so I'm going on yelp to let them know that their practices with returning calls is poor. Such a cool vibe! It can be 110° outside but when you go to the basement area and the fireplace is on, you feel like you need a sweater. Even if the sweater is just to absorb the wine stains from spilling on your own lap. Happy hour is the best because the prices are not inexpensive but the food is amazing. I believe these are the same owners as the upstairs bar, Richardson's, and Dick's Hideaway, down the street. The food is fantastic but I really like the vibe at this place the best. I have never been more conflicted about a review. I left this place loving it and raving about the food and was for sure planning to give it a 5 star. I started the night with the salmon bites which were absolutely delicious, crispy and paired perfectly with cappers. The Caesar salad was okay, nothing out of this world but I didn't expect it to be. Now the star of the night was the Angus Top Sirloin. Definitely the best steak I've had in Phoenix. The peppercorn whiskey lime sauce was incredible. The portion sizes were huge. I couldn't even finish my plate so I took the majority of the mashed potatoes, broccolini and a little bit of my steak back come. So here's the part where I got less excited. The next day when I was eating the leftovers I found a rubber band on my food and I was so bummed because I am guessing it's the rubber that comes with the broccolini and I understand that mistakes can happen in the kitchen but the thought of possibly eating that is a huge alarm for me. If not for this incident I would have definitely given it a 5 stars. I don't know if this will discourage me from coming again because honestly the food was terrific but the hazard of potentially eating a rubber band is one I can't ignore. read more

Hopefully everything is back to normal ~ by normal I suppose I mean way back when we first dropped by out of the blue. After a convention, we asked around for a great steak place... we were directed here. There's a backstory we were told, something about burning embers ~ you'll have to Google that We strode downstairs and enjoyed the atmosphere. We were practically the only guests that evening. It was around 5 so perhaps that explained it After your search of burning embers fills you in, you'll understand why we were not surprised by the iron plate that had burned wood encasing and photos I believe that show another place. Steak was perfect, salad also. Even bread was above average.
