Ogunquit is our happy place and we spend as much time visiting as we can, that's it. I have yet to have a bad experience at any of the restaurants in town - well I take that back, Rose Cove was atrocious and the hostess needs to be put out to pasture - but lets talk Roberto's! When we are in town, typically we will stick to seafood, particularly lobster. Living in Central Mass, seafood just doesn't have the same appeal. Under the advice of a friend who highly recommended Roberto's we made a reservation the same day on a Saturday - they really didn't have availability, but they made accommodations for our party of 4. I will admit that I was a little leery based on other reviews, and I am glad we took the chance! Roberto's has been run by the same owner for many years, the menu is impressive, and the quality of the food was excellent and memorable. The wait staff were all amazing, most from other countries working in Maine for the summer, and were engaging, friendly, and fun. The seafood linguini was fresh and delicious, and enough for 2 people. The veal was tender and cooked to perfection... The bread was fresh... It was a really bad night there which is so disappointing as we had great meals there last summer. The service was horrible. The waitress was lousy, didn't help with the menu, only took half of the tables drink order and left because she "got buzzed by the kitchen". Food was not that great. My Linguini Vongola was terrible. The clams were very gritty. The broth was very dark grey and sandy. So much so, it ruined the pasta. Won't return there again. Roberto's is a very cozy looking place from the outside, and is fine on the inside. The service is generally good but the food has never really "wowed" me. In our 11 years of vacationing in Ogunquit, we've dined here maybe 6 times. We've had some quiet, romantic dinners where the food was good but we've also had not-so-stellar meals. Last night was the worst experience ever and we won't be going back. We had good service in a very noisy environment and so-so food. First my wife ordered a margarita at the bar while we waited for our table which turned out to be $13. I thought this was excessive. We ordered the clams casino appetizer which was greasy and the clams were way overcooked and barely chewable. I don't know how they could serve this. Wife had a grilled vegetable "stack" as a salad which she said was all right. For dinner we had simple pasta with marinara sauce and a "stuffed portabello" which contained some seafood and other ingredients. This tasted OK but was served as a big nasty looking heap on the plate. This place has no flair for presentation or for food in general. Most of the menu options are uninspired, just nothing special. The menu is large and there were probably 30 "specials" as well. This is not a good thing. I think they're trying to do too many things and do none of them very well. I'd rather see fewer choices and better quality. Roberto's has become a lot more expensive over the years. Entrees are now in the high $20 to low $30 range which I would expect in a better place but not here. Go to Katie's across the street and see what good food is, for the same price. read more

Servers constantly making up excuses why the so so food is taking so long to be served. We waited 1 hour.... 30 minutes....torture! Almost started to think about going to the back of the restaurant to dumpster dive for food!!! Friggin starving! Once the food arrived, we scarfed it down and got the heck out of there. We had reservations for 5 thru open table. We were seated in a back room overlooking the back parking lot. The highlight of the evening was watching the valet park cars with precision, the cars were within inches of each other. We wanted to start with apps , seafood chowder (supposedly , award winning) and caprese salad. Weirdly , our waitress said we had to put our entire order in all at once. I was not sure what to order and I wanted to look over the menu. I ordered from a 5-6 early bird special. For 18.95 you get choice of soup or salad, entree, and desert. The eggplant parmigiana was mandolin thin ,shaved long ways . It was so thinly cut, it wasn't as thick as a lasagna noodle. There was cheese between the bottom 2 layers. It was oddly crispy and not at all like I've ever had before. It came with a side of bland pasta. The choice of desert was vanilla ice cream or a cannoli. Again, I had to choose my desert in advance and our waitress suggested the cannoli in case I was too full, as it traveled better than the ice cream. I'm close to 60 and have been dining out for many years . This experience was a first. My husband ordered off the main menu. Spicy seafood fra diavolo for 38. No soup or salad included. The seafood chowder was thin( he likes a thicker chowder) , nothing special. The caprese salad was just plain awful. Mealy , pale colored tomatoes that you can only find in the dead of winter at the grocery store. Where were the native , juicy red summer tomatoes? It was sooooo not worth it . We were on vacation with friends In Ogunquit and searched for an Italian restaurant. We found Roberto's and we're thrilled with our find. Friendly atmosphere from the moment we valet parked. Appetizers and entrees were excellent. Our waitress could not have been any more accommodating and amiable. We were a little worried by the mixed reviews. The take-out or eat-in wing off of Roberto's restaurant serves up terrific thin crust pizza made-to-order, in a child-friendly atmosphere. We ate on the modest outdoor patio, where pie after pie of super thin crust pizza came flying out of the kitchen. Fresh spinach salad (with bacon and green apples!) was super as well. Beers on tap. Robertos is a beautiful restaurant and the complimentary (and only option) valet parking is very appreciated as Ogunquit isn't overflowing with available parking. There is outdoor and indoor dining. We sat inside. A suggestion would be to close the windows because it was HOT, even with the air conditioned pockets you could feel here and there. The staff is friendly. The chicken cacciatore was delicious. The linguine with olive oil and garlic could have used a lot more garlic and salt. It was super bland. The sausages were great. The meatballs tasted good and were really large. The kids whined when they were "only" getting one but it was like 3 normal meatballs in size. :) Everyone was happy with the rest of the food. Service is slow. Always has been each time we've been there. They didn't seem to have many "main" servers. More water and bread servers. I would love if they expanded their menu a little. Came here with the family on vacation. Fantastic service! I ordered the braised short rib and it was just as great as the service was. A tiny bit slower, but it was very relaxing. We've been coming here for years during our trip to ogunquit. It seems like the restaurant was very short staffed, not sure if it's related to covid. We had dinner reservations at 7pm, were seated around 7:30, and waited another half hour before a waiter came to take drink others. The waiters were stressed out and couldn't handle the amount of tables they were taking care of. If prompt service is important to you, I would recommend making a much earlier reservation and hopefully that would help with waiting a normal time for food. However we empathized with the waiter as it was not their fault. This is the first time that we've seen this kind of disorganization at Roberto's. We had the herb crusted haddock and lobster pappardelle. The lobster pappardelle was very good, with a proper amount out lobster chunks. The sauce was excellent and it was a great fish overall! The haddock was served with good tomatoes, spinach with breading, roasted garlic, and cappellini pasta. The haddock was on the more expensive side from other places we're been to in ogunquit but not the best we've had. It was still good though, definitely fresh tasting and buttery. read more

In April, I took 6 friends there for their first time, and we had such an amazing dinner! Upon returning this week, the server, John, welcomed me back and asked how I had been doing! Ok I thought the food was good but the mgmt was horrific. We sat and didn't receive our food for 1:45!! We ordered 3drinks and apps just waiting... Got it - maybe you had too few employees but tell your customers. For 3 pasta dishes you will have to wait almost two hours. There was no comp of drinks/desert and the managers response was "meals were to order" and the tavern rule - basically f*** yourselves. Sorry - this is not COVID - this is rude. The manager said that we would wait at McDonald's - really?!? Keep that bar low. If you are that behind - just let people know. If we knew that we would wait two hours for pasta that should have been our decision. I'm in customer service and this is unacceptable. They can't complain about how many people they serve and then make them wait and be intolerant about customer delays. I support restaurants but if you want takeout and not eatin then push that. Don't seat people and then complain about it. The manager needs a career change. read more

Made a reservation for dinner. We were seated right away. We noticed there was absolutely NO safe distancing between the tables and the restaurant was completely full, and there were no windows opened for ventilation. The table behind us was the only empty table, and the host told us it would remain that way. Five minutes later, they sat a party of four on the empty table. The back of our chairs were right up against each other way too close. We asked the host if they could move the table a little farther, we got horrendous attitude from one of the servers. The other party agreed we were way too close for comfort, and they were happy to move farther away. The wait staff kept apologizing to everyone, they had a bartender in training, so everyone kept returning their drinks because they were not correct. Who trains a bartender on a Saturday night??? There were two things that saved our evening, our server "T" was a gem!!! And the food was absolutely fantastic. My husband and I went here for Mothers Day dinner. We were pleasantly surprised that for the special day all ladies entrees were half off..how nice! I had a shrimp cocktail which was good. The waitress was a young lady who served us well. She gave me a wine recommendation that was right on. I had the lasagna and hubby had the hot sausage on Spaghetti. We both LOVED our entrees. The lasagna tasted homemade, as did the sausage. I don't for the life of me understand the negative reviews.. We are picky eaters and our food was delicious! And they have spumoni for dessert...a true Italian restaurant lovers dessert-just wonderful!!! Wow, I'm surprised and disappointed to see all the negative reviews on Roberto's. My family has been dining sporadically at Roberto's for the past 30 years mostly when we used to summer in Ogunquit years ago. Now my folks have moved to Maine and so did I and so we go when we can. I just spent the past two weekends in Ogunquit...one for a birthday weekend and one for a sisters getaway. I dined at Roberto's for two Saturday nights in a row and had the most pleasant of experiences AND the most tastiest of foods. The first Saturday, we were celebrating our son's 3rd birthday, and we all had wonderful food. I had the baked lasagna, a favorite, and it was comfort food at its finest. Also, our waiter and the wait staff along with the owner came out with the biggest piece of chocolate cake I've ever seen for my son and sang him a rousing happy birthday to his utter delight. Then, this past Saturday night, I dined with my sister, and we had excellent service, wonderful entrees (penne bolognese for me, and a half lobster with shrimp scampi over cappellini for her) and drinks. It was exactly how we remembered when we used to dine with our parents here all those years ago. It was delightful and I would happily go back and encourage anyone who's vacationing in Ogunquit to give it a shot. While I have not yet tried their pizza, the hosts of our B&B, both on separate occasions, raved as it being the best in town. read more

So we made a reservation on July 31 for Monday august 30 when we booked our hotel . This is the second time we have been disappointed by robertos they confirmed on august 29 and we called them back and said we will be there at 700 . They called us at 830 on the night before to say the are now closed on mondays . This is a very busy time so for 4 weeks they had our reservation and no one saw they had a reservation for a night the restaurant now was closed . I don't know what is going on at Roberto's, but whatever it is, it is not good. Went to Dinner Saturday evening and it was not as typically as busy as usual. Sat at bar and bartender was efficient and friendly. However after that all down hill from there. Ordered Manacotti, and wife ordered Chicken Parm with side of Linguini. Both orders way over cooked, shell on Manacotti was so tough needed knife to cut thru it. Chicken Parm even more tough as normal cuts with a fork, virtually need steak knife to cut through it. Used to be one of our favorite stops in Ogunquit, now looking for other options Italian food. Waited about 40 minutes from time of order but did not feel bad as couple beside us waited nearly and hour. They left rather unhappy as well. read more

We waited a while before a hostess came over and she informed us that even though we had a reservation for outdoor dining, all of those tables were unavailable. When we asked if we could wait, she informed us that this was not possible as the outdoor parties had recently been seated. We will never go to this restaurant again. We had 7:15 pm reservations for Saturday night. The waitress set up a table for us outside and we were seated. We were given menus and water and our drink order was taken. All of this was done in a timely manner. Our wine was brought to us and our dinner order was taken and bread was delivered. About an hour later, we were asked if we wanted more wine. We stated no that we just wanted the food that we ordered since we had a three hour drive back to CT. A little while later we were again asked if we wanted more wine and my husband jokingly said that only if it was free since we were still waiting for our food. We were never told why we were waiting so long. Shortly thereafter, the manager/owner came storming out and asked us how things were going and I stated that we had been there for an hour and forty-five minutes and just wanted our food. Her response was "I doubt that" and proceeded to say that we were not getting anything for free and that we had two choices-take our food or leave! I told her that we weren't asking for anything for free. We just wanted our food so we could leave. At this point, we didn't even have napkins or utensils. When I was trying to defend myself against this verbal abuse, she kept telling me to keep my voice down even though she was the one yelling at me. She never once apologized for the delay in our food arriving. She just continued to say that we had two choices- take our food or leave. We had no choice but to wait for the food since it was now 9:00 pm (the hour and forty-five minute time period that she had the nerve to say she doubted) and getting food from a different location would have been difficulty before our trip home. I was deeply embarrassed to be berated by her in front of the other guests. I have never seen a manager/owner treat a customer in this manner. She made it out somehow to be our fault. The food arrived in 5-10 minutes. At this point, I was too upset to eat it and my risotto was hard and crunchy. We paid our bill and left. I RECOMMEND THAT YOU DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY AND TIME TO GO TO THIS RESTAURANT. There are many of other lovely restaurants within walking distance of this place. MC Perkins has a beautiful view of the water and a very friendly owner. We enjoy 5-0 Shore Road and Northern Union. We have never had a problem there. On Saturday, we also went to Rose Cove and Bandittos. Neither to these restaurants had a problem with staffing and we had our food in a timely manner. If the owner treats guests like this, I can only imagine how she treats her employees. No wonder why she is under staffed. read more

The bartender John has a real problem. He is so unhappy. He brings the atmosphere down. He has no personality and is a complete drip. Came here without a reservation and was seated at the bar which is fine. However the place is completely understaffed or can't keep up with the customers. Over 2 hours waiting for our food and got our appetizers within 1 hour. Only took drink orders once. Food came and it was not what we ordered. We didn't get bread. Only answer they have was they were sorry. No reduction in price or a free drink. Sorry won't be coming back here. If a restaurant can't handle the crowd close off tables to allow the staff to handle. read more
