The atmosphere is for catching up with friends and just enjoying the company. THey can make a pretty interesting cocktails to get you courious for your next drink. One was a jalopeno infused taquila... hmm strangly so good. I also had the best irish coffee i have ever had there which would now ruin all irsh coffee ever.. I know I am not a guy. And I usually don't try to pick up anybody at bars. (usually haha) But lately, the attempts towards me and my friends have been just awful. I'm not asking for a Humphrey Bogart, but I would like a little more suave then Will Ferrell.... Rob Roy will hold the current trophy of lamest pickup line clientele. Whilst sipping my gimlet, a guy actually came up to me and asked if I knew CPR cuz I just took his breath away. Amazing. It's my own fault for going here on a crowded night; loaded with testosterone and their drunk female counterparts. This was not the best way to experience any lounge. I do like their sunken comfy couches and the art was contemporary on the walls. Even the top-half naked lady framed by the door. The gimlet was good and I like their glassware. I never got to talk to the bartender, but our server was friendly. That's all I can say about this place. read more

First, I receive the worst customer service by a bartender who refused to make me a certain drink and then scoffed and scowled when I ordered an alternative. And then, he steals my money! The most insulting service I have ever experienced. CHECK YOUR BANK ACCOUNT. The bartender added an additional tip to my tab that I did not authorize. After calling the management, I have still not received my money back after two weeks. They offered no apology and did not comment on the insulting service. Thanks for stealing my money Rob Roy! After eating at Wasabi Bistro, my friends and I decided to go have a drink or two and hang out. We came across Rob Roy. We decided to go here strictly because the logo on the outside, double R's back to back... it looks similar to the tattoos that me and my husband have (For us it stands for Ru&Rae our nicknames) . Anyways, we went here cuz my friend thought we needed to go, hell we might get a free drink, worth a shot right? Wrong. First off the bartender seemed like he couldn't be bothered. Very snooty, but hey we were in Belltown, it could almost be expected. We all ordered a round of drinks. RIP OFF, come to find out we were charged $9 each for what can only be described as a gin-sour served in a fancy martini glass. WOW. Throw in some ice and a straw and I could have gotten this drink for $5.50 at a normal bar. I dug the decor of the place, but that was about it. Needless to say I will never go back! read more

Cocktails here are unbelievable. I love the decor, and... damn, the cocktails are amazing. The bathroom is pretty funny with the recipes written on the wall. Oh, and don't let me forget to mention how good the cocktails are. A good cocktail lounge with semi-swank decor, attentive service, and higher-than-average noise level. Unfortunately I'm boring and typically choose gin & tonic or beer by default, so I haven't tried their cocktails. The place is almost always a bit busy that it doesn't make you feel like a lush for drinking on a Tuesday night, but also not too busy that you can always find a spot for 2-3 people at any given time. There are a couple larger tables, but the rest of the place is really more conducive for bar seating and for parties less than 4 people. The food menu is a joke... right? The food menu actually says "local eats" across the top and the description hints at gourmet food made with fresh ingredients, but I think that was intended to be sarcastic, poking fun at the farm-to-table, all-natural, Monsanto-hating crowd. The "tender cured beef strips" are beef jerky in a paper bag, and the meatballs and pasta are fresh off the microwave. read more

Love this place! Love the décor, the drink menu, the art of mixology and being that I live 2 blocks away, I've been a regular for the better part of a year! The service here has been good to great otherwise, but their main bartender gal is the reason that I'm changing my rating from 5 to 1 and will try to find a new place to hang out at after work. I come here for their drinks and I don't mind waiting. This bartender, even when they are slow, makes a grimace of dissatisfaction if she has to chop ice, or make a flaming drink - making a big deal, loudly asking other staff to get her the tools she should have under hand. She's plain out unfriendly. When seeing a regular walk in on a date, there is no familiarity to make the guy look good - "Hey there! The usual?" Or, "Welcome back!" Nothing! Asking for a drink refill, or another bottled beer, is replied to with a sigh. And rarely will she condescend to asking you if you'd like something else to drink, unless you are in the middle of a conversation with your friend/date. It's just plain terrible customer service! I thought it was just me, out it was just a few times, but it's consistent and a few friends and guys I met at the bar told me of the same experience with her. I can order a cocktail anywhere. But especially if I'm going to fork out $15-20 for it, I expect the service to be on par with the price! read more

Definitely a "sexy" bar, great for a date night. Some quiet seating areas, great to get to know your date. Alas, i was there with my husband and about 12 other friends.. so sexy quiet time for us! Definitely a hard alcohol type of place, although they did offer up a couple wine choices for us that didn't want to go whole hog! Wow - what an unbelievable experience. Some friends and I stopped in for a drink - we were pretty impressed with the decor, the stone wall behind the bar was pretty cool. If I were to own a bar, this is what it would look like. But I digress.... I ordered a rum/coke - the bartender proceeded to poor the soda first, filled the glass 2/3 - then free poured the rum and then added ice. Who makes a drink like this? I was watching, I could see he light poured the rum and so after tasting it, it was confirmed that it was pretty much an $8 soda. I decided to wait until he was finished making my friends drinks, which wasnt fast. This kid was obviously inexperience - or very incompetent. Once I caught his attention, I asked him to splash the drink as it was pretty light on rum - he responded they there policy is to pour 2 oz and he did. I said no, it was light. He just shrugged and walked away. I couldnt believe it. How do you work in a service industry and then refuse to correct a service issue? Just ignore it as though there is no problem? Really? an $8 drink and you are going to light pour it? then refuse to do anything about it when you are called on it? I was surprised he had the gall to ask me if I wanted change - HA! Sorry Rob Roy - you can't treat people like that. Its called a service industry for a reason. read more

This swanky bar in Belltown is doing some great things. The cocktail menu is expansive and caters to cocktail connoisseurs of all kinds. It's fairly dimly lit and has some low level music providing a great atmosphere for conversing. There is seating at the bar, an extended table against the back wall, tall tables with bar stools, and couch style seating. The patio out front is small but enticing for those warm days we get in the PNW. The service was excellent and the waitress was able to answer any and all questions about some of the unfamiliar ingredients in the cocktails as well as provide recommendations given a spirt. The drink I had that was similar to a Manhattan was the highlight for me - wish I could remember the name. Happy hour looks promising and I'm looking forward to frequenting this spot in the future! read more

This bar hits all the right notes. Beautiful decor, stylish clientele, great service and impeccable cocktails. The website only showed a limited list of their cocktails. When I visited the cocktail list read like a book. Depending on your drink, cocktails are served with hand carved ice cubes from a large block of clear ice! My "Two Tickets to Paradise" - Ron Zacapa 23 year rum + house horchata - included a large glacial chunk. The clarity in the ice makes it impossible to see the ice below the surface. You know a place is dedicated to cocktails when it pays this much attention to detail. Ron Zacapa is also one of the best rums, and their horchata was spot on. I also recommend the Auburn & Ivory (brandy, witbier and molasses) for the neat effect and taste, as well as the Gunpowder Punch, with real gunpowder in it. Depending on when you go, the music is loud which it makes it less of a lounge and more of a bar, but that shouldn't matter when you're enjoying something straight out of a mixological fantasy. read more

The Rob Roy has been changing over the past year. I walk in tonight, sweaty from riding a bike and causally order a world class mai tai with house made orgeat. A man comes in and sits next to me, he wears a long sleeve t-shirt, a vest and what is at least an 18 gallon cowboy hat. He says: I want a Martini, but with Jameson and put an egg white in it. With little to say, the bartender takes this cluster fuck of an order and makes a cocktail that "sea-bass" announces as "awesome" to all in the bar. And that is the change in the Rob Roy. It is becoming a true world -class cocktail lounge but is no less a great super weird neighborhood joint, all welcome and only expect the best. read more

Rob Roy is a classy establishment. We came in early (between 8 and 9ish) on a Friday evening and there was ample seating available and the crowd was subdued and courteous. A courteous, classy crowd in Belltown? I know. I was surprised too. Maybe I wasn't there late enough to coincide with the typical Belltown riff raff, but if you don't enjoy being around those kinds of folks, know that there is a safe haven in Belltown (if you get in and out before 11... after that all bets are off). The decor is perfect. It's like trendy 1920s meets rustic hunting lodge with a handful of hunting trophies adorning the walls. The urinals had (what looked to be) freshly sliced citrus fruit rounds as the de-odorizing agent rather than the pink hockey puck that's usually there. I know it's not a huge deal and the ladies can't enjoy this novelty, but I think it's worth mentioning because it shows what kind of place this is. The drinks are expensive. Think typical Belltown expensive, and then add $2-3/drink. They had a good assortment of whiskey cocktails. I ordered the old fashioned and they allow you to pick the whiskey that you want to go in it. They have a pretty extensive list, so I thought that was a cool opportunity. Be forewarned, however, because (as alluded to previously) the old fashioned is expensive. It's $12+ depending on what type of whiskey you get. They do put a giant block of crystal clear, hand-carved ice in it, which I always appreciate. I initially didn't think there was ice when it arrived, but saw that there was after a few sips. I got mine with Bulleit Bourbon and it was delicious and strong. The waitress we had was attentive, but her attitude was a little off-putting. I don't think I would use the words "friendly", "warm" or "inviting" to describe her. But she got us our drinks in a timely fashion. That's for sure. They don't have a lot of food options. Maybe 10-12 small plates and 3 desserts. so I wouldn't really recommend this place for dinner or dessert, but if you're looking for drinking or happy hour only, this is an excellent choice. If you're worried about price but would still like to venture to Rob Roy for a cocktail, their happy hour drink menu is a bargain and a half. read more

I'm trying to come up with another adjective to describe this place other than "sexy," but "sexy" pretty much sums it up. What else can I say about this place that my fellow Yelpers haven't already said? The drinks are DEELISH. My BF had a customized cucumber flavored drink and it was amazing. The sloe gin fizz was also really good. Bottom line is, they make amazing cocktails here! I love the decor here, and the vibe is really laid back. What a wonderful place! I am a non-drinker, but my friend suggested this place, so I went. First, the decor is awesome. It reminds me of an old library with books on the walls and leather chairs. The bar is padded so I didn't bang my knee when I sat down and it was a really nice and comfortable place. I ordered a Caprese salad and it was SO good. It was small though, and having not eaten for awhile, I ordered another. The bartender, Bryn (who was really incredible to watch), warned me that I was no longer in happy hour, just to make sure I was cool with it. I was, and they made me another delicious salad. I loved the way they put a "snowball" of ice in the glasses (it looks pretty and it doesn't melt as quickly) and in the planters out front to keep their landscaping well-watered. This bar is a place that I could see myself hanging out in all the time, despite the fact that I will never get to taste one of Bryn's concoctions. Oh, and Bryn - it's fun to watch you work, and it was really cool that you came across the bar to say good-bye to us. We were really impressed by your service and how you didn't make us feel invisible once we got our food, like so many bartenders do. read more

I come here many times and love the place but last Saturday I had the worst service (more like no service) from the bartender. He ignored us completely a group of 5 sitting on 3 adjacent bar stools trying very visibly to get his attention. Finally after serving all the lines of customers wedging in to our right and left , he barked "I saw you" to my friend who was waving at this point after 20 mins of being ignored. We were Pretty hard to miss for anyone. The last blow came we wanted to close our tab. At this point the place was no longer busy and yet he ignored us for another 30 mins. We then gave up and asked the hostess to close out tab which she took another 15 mins cuz Ofcourse the couldn't locate the card. The worst part was this friend who was barked at and whose card misplaced was visiting from India and I took him here saying this is the best and must visit place in Seattle. My bad.. Rob Roy is a low-key full bar that walks a cunning line between casual and dressy. I suppose you could come here in a t-shirt, but at the very least, jeans and any type of a button-up would fit the ambience a bit better. The bar is fairly heavy on the spirits side. However, there is a small colony of beers on the menu in case you're just not into mixed drinks or fermented grapes. A lot of the mixed drinks are original but very fruity, so if you want something neat, there's a pretty substantial selection as well. Prices are a bit on the heavy side, but nothing so extraordinarily so that it separates itself from other bars in Seattle. The bartender as well as the surrounding staff are all fairly friendly. My group in particular had trouble deciding on drinks, and the poor woman helping us came back 4 times, each visit more patient than the next. So major kudos because at that juncture I would have been pretty pissed if I were in her shoes. Great music playing in the background, and the decor is original as well with ingredients of their drinks graffitied in the bathrooms. The whole bar is dim lit and clean as well. Came in here late on a Wednesday and had a really nice time. We were drinking boxed wine earlier in the evening, so we thought we'd try to find a place that may have a nice house wine. Peering into Rob Roy's from the sidewalk, this looked like the spot; we were not disappointed. The bartender was really nice and personable; there are a lot of exotic and "old-style" drinks; and the environment is very warm and inviting. Love Love LOVE it! I can't say I'm ever a huge fan of Whiskey, but I have a few favorite places because I know they can make a good drink. Rob Roy just hit that "favorites" list. I love the ambiance, the bartenders, the decor, and even the customers! Heck, for a first time visit there, I was amazed by everything. I've heard of Rob Roy and I'm glad my first visit was taking my sister (who, by the way, LOvES Whiskey). I have this concoction of egg whites, hazelnut, lemon, and any Whiskey of the bartender's choice. Our bartender, Cathleen, made this light ephemeral drink in a tall cylinder glass with a star anise (of all ingredients!!) as a decoration. It tasted beautiful. I know that's an odd way to describe the taste, but it was beautiful. I was VERY delighted with my drink and glad she pulled it off because as of that day, NO ONE else in Seattle made the mix as well as she did. Not even those who claim their from some of New York's "Top 5 best bars." Of course, every drink differs based on the customers taste buds, but this one fit MINE. Their Old Fashions looked classic and every bartender looked committed and passionate about the drink he or she was making at that moment. We just popped in for a drink. The place was very quite, but it was a Thursday night after the HH crowd. The bartender made a Hemmingway Daiquiri for my wife and a Sazarac for me. Pretty good. He had great taste in music and made me a fan of a few new bands. My wife asked about the rums he had and he gave her quite the education on great sipping rums. He made me a drink that I never got the name of but it had Congac and Rye, but it was one of the best I have ever had... top 5 drinks ever. This was a cool place to grab a drink. read more

I like this bar cause you can just sit and talk quietly and there is light music in the background but not loud to the point that you can't have a decent conversation and do not need to shout at the top of your lungs. What kind of bar doesn't have Malibu rum? I asked for a Malibu & Coke and our server said that they don't have that. I asked what kind of rum they have and she had to go and check. She came back and said, "We don't have coconut flavored rum." She didn't mention any other rums that they have...just that the bartender could make me a rum & coke and add a little pineapple juice in it. I thought...okay, I'll try it. She brought the drink and it just didn't look right. It was brown and murky and didn't look tasty at all. It wasn't...it was HORRIBLE. I drank about a 1/4 of it and told her she could take it back because it was gross. I was still charged for the drink- $5. The bar itself has a nice atmosphere with 4 couches and several high bar tables/chairs. It was a mature, 30's-40's crowd so no annoying young ones...people just enjoying good company. This place is sophisticated without being stuffy and uptight. The space is just the right size, just enough room to spread out, but small enough to feel intimate. My bf and I arrived around 10:30 or so on a Saturday night and had no problems grabbing a seat and a few drinks. The place got a little busier at one point as the night progressed, but our waitress was super sweet and always made sure we had our drinks in hand. Slightly cheaper cause it's happy hour. *Free goldfish crackers! * HALF-PRICE FOOD - $4 for a full grilled cheese sandwich and bowl of tomato soup! *Cucumber flavored water *Rad musical choices playing overhead - everything from Feist to Paul Simon - sometimes on vinyl! *Happy hour goes from 4 'til 7 That's all you need, really, in my opinion. My review is really four and a half stars, to be totally fair, with the half star missing because I'm not the biggest fan of the 70s Brady Bunch/Playboy Mansion decor theme. Wednesday night. Large group. Open tab. The bartender was great, fast, and friendly. The server was a rude, loud, abrasive, snarky, nightmare. Two days later and people are still talking about how she went out of her way to be sure her unhappiness, eye rolls, biting comments, were noticed by all. If you hate your job, quit! But don't expect anyone to have empathy for you serving a crowd, when serving is the job you've chosen. Going out of your way to be blatantly rude didn't hurt our feelings, only your tip, and the reputation of that bar. We left and went to another establishment, congratulations! read more

Happy hour review; ambience was great! Casual but classy. Nice comfy couches. Drinks were decent priced and they have a lot of specialty drinks. The waitress was really nice and efficient for waitressing on her own. Do not come here for food. This craft cocktail house has a cool atmosphere and fun music. It would be a good place to meet for after dinner drinks. If only the drinks were better. The drink recipes are innovative, however the flavor combinations are not up to par compared to other trendy cocktail bars across America.
