I'm always up to trying new restaurants and when we were invited here, I was pleasantly surprised. I hadn't heard about this restaurant. There are a few restaurants that share the parking so there is very limited parking. We had to go around twice to find a parking spot. We had reservations and were sat promptly. They had live music playing in the background, which is nice. We couldn't see it so I didn't know where they were at. It is designed in a circular way where the bar is in the middle so you cannot see across. We were greeted by our server and he was very attentive. He gave us some great recommendations and he was very pleasant. We started with the fig bruschetta and that was a 10 out of 10. It had little bacon bits on top which added a layer of flavor. We also had the spinach and artichoke crab dip, which was 10 out of 10. We added extra crostinis which is recommended. For a drink, I had the Cosmo, which was nice and refreshing. I also had a taste of the Old Glory and that was a nice refreshing twist on the old-fashioned, which was recommended by our server. I had the Calabrian Chile Shrimp Scampi over pappardelle pasta and it was the 10 out of 10. The layers of flavor with the capers, lemon, bacon and spice was perfect! I tried a piece of the crusted halibut, which was very moist and flavorful as well as the salmon. All was great on flavor. For dessert we had the brownie with vanilla ice cream, which is a huge brownie. I would say it's good for four people. I also tried the apple pie cheesecake which was very good and the mixed berry crumble that tasted fresh. I ordered an espresso martini to try it and it looked a little messy on the glass. After going to Ripon Tap House, we headed over to Ripon Social for dessert, cocktails and a little snack. It was the perfect way to end the night. The vibe was super chill and inviting, especially with the live music playing. It created such a relaxed, fun atmosphere where we could just unwind and keep enjoying our time together. We ended up sharing a pizza, which was actually really good, and paired it with dessert cocktails that hit the spot. Everything felt easy and enjoyable, not rushed at all. The staff was really nice and welcoming, which made the experience even better. The inside has a modern feel to it very clean, stylish, and just a really comfortable space to hang out. Formerly American Social and now Ripon Social. This was my first time dining here since this location changed from a prior restaurant. The shape of the building is quite unique in that it is circular shaped. All seating is on the outside of the circle with a full bar in the center of the restaurant. If you enjoy watching your chef staff prepare your food, the entire cooking area can be seen from most of the restaurant. This is due to the kitchen having clear glass where a traditional wall would be. We dined here on a Saturday night and made reservations in advance. Upon arrival, the hostess located our reservation and promptly seated our party of four. It took about ten minutes for our waiter to arrive and greet us. However, he was pretty attentive to our table the rest of our visit. I ordered the Ripon Social Burger. The meat patty is 8oz and made of short ribs & brisket. It is served on a seeded brioche bun with French fries. I have to say the short ribs/brisket meat patty was pretty dang good. The French fries were a bit skinnier than traditional fries. They tasted great and had a nice crunch. The meal paired well with the Social Margarita. When the waiter learned we were celebrating a birthday, he brought us a large cut brownie topped with vanilla ice cream. The brownie was large enough for the four of us to indulge it. If a member of your party is in the military or a first responder, the restaurant graciously offers a 10% discount. We had a good experience here and would dine here again. read more

I made reservations for Thanksgiving. It accepted it. Day of I got a confirmation text asking if I was coming. I typed 1 and it confirmed. An hour before the reservation I got a text saying I was expected in an hour! I get to the restaurant and it seemed quiet. The doors were locked and it was dark. They were CLOSED! Had dinner with a friend; it was pretty quiet on a Thursday evening but the ambiance was very nice. We had the Spinach & Mushroom Arancinis as an appetizer; they were large and full of flavor. We were hopeful that we would find another neighborhood gem because we had such great luck with Falcon's Lair but unfortunately, this was turned out to be a very disappointing experience. We had made reservations for patio dining today at 7pm and were shown to our seats where they had a heater set up by our table. A group of 7 were seated after us and midway through our appetizers, a waiter moved our heater to the larger group because the restaurant did not have anymore propane. We did not quite understand why the heater was moved. When we asked, the explanation provided was that the other group had patio reservations, but so did we. On top of that, we were seated first after they said to give them a few minutes to set up our table. The only thing we could tell was that we were Asian and the table that got the heater was non-Asian. While I don't want to believe that was to reason, there wasn't any other explanation. We were seated first with the heater situated right by our table. We had dining reservations for the patio. Not sure what else was different. Anyways, the front of the house manager Ellen apologized and agreed we were right to be upset. She did offer to comp the meal but we ended up paying anyways for what we ordered. We didn't want to accept a free meal because that would be a sign of condoning this type of treatment. There wasn't any acceptable rationale for their action to move the heater to begin with. We've been wanting to come here for a long time now. We were timid at first because we thought everyone had to make reservations but going during lunch wasn't bad. We came last Friday around 12:30 and there was no wait and only about 3 other tables of people there. I ordered the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken and my partner ordered the burger. Both were amazing but the burger topped everything. That had to have been the best burger I've ever had. We wanted to try this restaurant(new owners) because it used to be one of our favorite places to dine. We both started with a glass of wine. My husband had the green salad and I had the beet salad. Both were very good. The beet salad had a generous amount of beets. My husband had the lasagna. It was a huge serving, but needed more sauce and cheese. It was rather dry. I had the lamb shanks and there were two shanks which were very tender and meaty. The polenta was yummy. We ended with the blood orange panna cotta and two drinks. My husband had Makers old fashion and I the espresso martini. Both drinks were very good. The panna cotta was not the traditional Italian panna cotta I was expecting. I would not order it again. After our dinner on Saturday we have been so disappointed. Not only in the food but also in the customer service. Their whole menu has changed. So many things have been removed from the menu. Dinner tonight with friends, it's been a while since we've visited here. Shame on us. The restaurant and dining room are very comfortable and attractive. The menu is very nice, I had a wedge salad and the table had coconut shrimp and bruschetta appetizers. The table had pizza, veal piccata, pasta and Lamb Chops. All outstanding. American Social is a new restaurant in Ripon that I am pretty impressed by. I went to the previous restaurant before American Social took over, but both are great. The service here is great and they ask for lots of feedback too which is appreciated. The ambiance is always comfortable and on a weekend I definitely recommend booking a reservation as it can get busy. The Steak Sandwich ($23) and Creamy Chicken Basil Pesto Pasta ($24) are easily my two favorite items on the menu. The Steak Sandwich I asked for it cooked medium rare and it was perfect and so unbelievably tender. The Chimichurri sauce they used was a 10/10. The bread was amazing too. The sandwich itself was definitely one of the best steak sandwiches I've hand. The only negative I have to say is that I wish the fries were cooked longer and they give a pretty small portion for them when they are the most inexpensive part of the dish. The Creamy Chicken Basil Pesto Pasta was also very good minus the unnecessary micro greens that they have an obsession with putting on top of so many of their dishes. It's a taste that does nothing, but subtract from the dish. Flavor rise that pesto was outstanding. The chicken was very juicy and the pasta had a nice texture as well. Ripon and a lot of the central valley isn't loaded with great restaurant options honestly, but American Social definitely has the potential to be one of the best in the area if they keep up the consistency and improve. I really want to love this restaurant & support a restaurant in our town. If this review was ONLY about the food i would give it 4 stars however the service and experience wasn't good. The very first time we tried to dine here, the hostess gave us a weird vibe and when we told her we were a party of 2 she told us it would be a 45min wait since we didn't have a reservation. My husband asked again and the hostess told us they were only seating "large parties". we waited a couple minutes we decided to go somewhere else & let them know nevermind. As we were leaving, another party of 2 walked in with no reservation (they were asked as well) & were seated at a table. Which we thought was strange. Last night, we gave it a try again. I made reservations this time to avoid any possible issues. We arrived for our 7:15 reservation. Same hostess, same weird vibe as the first Time. Not sure if it's the way we were dressed (casual jeans and sweaters, the way we look or what. ) We were told it would be about 10min for the party that was at our table to finish up. No problem. Another party came in after us and were seated right away in the main dining area. When we got seated, we were sat at a table in a back room away from the main restaurant with a large party in there. This was strange to us because we were told a party was leaving but nobody had left in the time we got seated. This back room had a party of 14 seated there and this is where things went south. That party was so loud it was migraine inducing, we couldn't even hear ourselves talk causing us to sit and struggle to have a conversation and enjoy our dinner. It's hard to believe this was not done intentionally given other tables being open in the main restaurant and another party being seated before us who arrived after us. The poor waitress did her best managing such a large party and ours but inevitably service fell short. No fault of her own. The food was delicious and we enjoyed it. I may possibly give it another try, unsure at the moment. I really don't want to think the vibe and horrible spot we got sat has anything to do with what we look like but that is what it seems like. However, the food is just okay. The Veal Picatta had an amazing sauce but the veal itself tasted very plain. The braised lamb shank was plated beautifully but it was missing the wow factor in flavor. We called ahead of time since we notice we weren't able to make reservations via Yelp. Ellen answered and let me know they would be short staff and that we were more than welcome to come in at 5:30 for dinner which we did. Prior to going we looked at the menu and had decided to make our selection to make things a little easier on the staff. We were kindly greeted by Ellen when we got there and they already had four other tables of which two were large parties of 6 and more. We were served our water brought our drinks we ordered and our food was spectacular. Steak, lamb shank, chicken and pork chop perfectly done as ordered. And not once did they delay in checking up on us or any table. We even ordered dessert! The kitchen staff were so well organized while the ladies served the guest. What a wonderful experience to see. We had reservations for 10 for a small Baby shower they sat us up in a corner table which was perfect. They updated some of the interior but the bones and layout are primarily the same. Our server was a little slow at the beginning and apologized many times for the delay in our drinks and appetizer. She was tentative as our night went on and we enjoyed our pizza as it was done right and not over or under cooked. We started with the crab artichoke and cheese dip which was tasty and size-able for about 2. Ended with a dessert and cappuccino. Overall was great for the new spot and prices were fair. What rubbed me the wrong way was when they called the number used for reservations and told me I forgot to sign the receipt and left my card- so either I come in right away as they were closing, or otherwise they would charge me 20% tip and hold my card. I have never heard any place demand that and I group up in family of many restaurant owners who also never implemented that. So I am a bit turned off by the management. This place has barely opened so we are aware that is not fully dialed in yet. The ambiance if great (the old Fina's). Overall the staff was ok. It was midweek and took awhile to be seated even though the restaurant was pretty empty. The menu is small, but varied with some nice options. We ordered a caesar salad and two different pizzas. The salad was good, nice presentation, properly dressed, and more than enough for two people. The pizza were good size (10"), but not great. Crust is bland, soft, and the pizza was not hot. The flavor profiles were good, but the overall cook, or possibly sitting at the window, caused it to become soft. For a thin crust pizza, we expect it to have a bit of a bite or crunch to it, and this was soft. The pricing for the food is fair and in inline with similar restaurants we visit. Ripon is a very tough place to own a restaurant as it takes quality food, good value, comfortable setting, and it takes great and engaged staff. Many have failed here in the last 20 years because they did not understand their clientel. We will likely give it another shot to support local business after it has been open awhile longer, but not racing over there soon. read more
