I had a great experience here with my friends the service was great and so was the food

I have left wonderful reviews in the past for this place but I have to share my experience recently. My boyfriend and I have been to Standard Pub several times during the day, and every visit has been fantastic. We've enjoyed the food, drinks, and even had the pleasure of speaking with the owner on multiple occasions. The service was always welcoming, and the food was consistently phenomenal. Because of those great experiences, we decided to bring some friends on a Saturday night. We arrived around 7:30 PM, and the atmosphere looked promising. There appeared to be a DJ setting up, and the crowd seemed excited for a night of music, food, and drinks. Unfortunately, our experience that evening was completely different from what we had come to expect. We ordered food and drinks, and while our server wasn't outright rude, he seemed uninterested in providing the level of service we had previously received. As the night went on, things became increasingly odd. Shortly after ordering another round of drinks, while our drinks were still full and we had just received them, the server approached our table and asked if we were finished. My boyfriend jokingly responded, "No, let me talk to your manager," and laughed, assuming the server was joking as well. The server responded, "Yeah, it's my brother," but with an attitude that left everyone at our table looking at each other wondering what had just happened. He then informed us that we needed to put a credit card on file. At that point, we had already been there for over an hour, and it seemed strange that this requirement was only being brought up then. We also noticed that no other tables around us were being asked for a card. The most disappointing part came when we received the bill. There was an additional $60 service charge added--$35 on my friends' bill and $25 on ours. Confused, we asked for an explanation. The explanations we received kept changing. First, we were told it was because my boyfriend was sitting with another group, which was completely false. Then we were told it was because the bill exceeded $100. After that, we were told it was because there were more than six people in our party, despite there only being four of us. The inconsistent explanations were frustrating and made it feel as though the staff were simply making up reasons to justify the charge. Our issue wasn't necessarily with a service fee itself--it was the lack of disclosure and the conflicting stories we were given when we asked about it. To make matters worse, the receipt also included a separate line for an additional tip. After discussing it with them and explaining that additional charges should be clearly communicated to customers, the service charge was ultimately removed. This review is not a reflection of the food, which remains excellent, nor of our previous experiences at Standard Pub. It is solely based on the service and handling of the situation during our Saturday night visit. We left feeling disappointed and confused, especially because this establishment had earned our trust through many positive visits in the past. I sincerely hope this was an isolated incident and that management addresses these issues so other customers don't have a similar experience read more

Their police states parties of 6 or more a 20% service charge will be added. We we were a party of three and we each were charged a 20% service charge. Waitress was a 5, excellent so we did not argue the point, but we will not be going back. read more

The pub is located in a corner of a strip mall. Doesn't seem much on the outside but I was pleasantly surprise when I walked in. It is bigger than I imagine and the ambiance was nice. 16 draft beer on tap and a wide varieties of mix cocktails. A good food menu. There are special offering on certain day. Went there for the World Cup games 3 times so far and I enjoyed the visit each time. Look like you can make reservations for tables on game day. Service was friendly as I sat at the bar. If you're looking for World Cup fun, this is the place! I was here for the first game (Mexico vs South Africa), and it was a party! It's happy hour during all of the games, with food and drink specials. The food is fab - I recommend the prime rib chili cheese fries. Excellent service and a great view of the game no matter where you're seated due to the number of tv's. Cheer on your team with fellow World Cup fans! read more

I celebrated my 50th here and I wish I remembered the young, brunette's name who took care of us but she did a GREAT JOB! We had a party of 17 and she made sure everyone had what they needed. The restaurant was pretty packed and I think she was the only one waiting on everyone but she made sure she frequently checked in on us. She paid extra attention to me (the bday girl), making sure I liked my drinks and food. She even did some dancing with us......she's standing in the back ground. The music played was 80s....in honor of me, maybe? Idk but we had so much fun! The food was excellent, drinks were made how they should be and the ambiance around was of a sports bar.....a bunch of big screen TV's so we will be going back for the jammin food, drinks, and the many TV's around to watch our favorite football teams. Thank you to the little, cute as button brunette who made sure my bday dinner celebration was an awesome experience! We will be back!! read more

I came on a sunday for a fifa event and the service was not that good. It was packed and we were able to find seating at the bar but not once did the bartender/ server make it way to us. Someone new join the bar area and they got their drink before us.I came a couple of time and the service is usually well but maybe hire more ppl. read more

Came here on Wednesday the day before thanksgiving, to my surprise, the pace was POPPING! To say they were busy is an understatement. The staff were friendly and the food was better than I expected! I tried the baked Brie and burrata, hmm sooo good! My husband has the brisket burger and I had the hot chicken. 8.5/10 There was live music and then they had karaoke!! Been here twice now and The Standard Pub is one of the few restaurants I have been to in life that got better over time. The Standard Pub has like a lowkey romantic, classy vibe as a setting. But the staff make the atmosphere feel very positive and uplifting. They don't bother you, and although I just walked in and seated myself, they were on it. The food menu is simple. From my limited experience, everything was good. Soo good I'm eager to explore whatever is on the menu. They actually make drinks worth what they cost and in the correct glassware. Unlike most establishments. The Standard Pub sets the standards. And meets yours. read more

I dined at the standard pub for the first time.on Saturday. Pictures looked great online! Ordered a ribeye unfortunately they weren't able to execute the right cooking temperature for both myself and my wife. The service at the restaurant was good, but the ambience is more of a bar. I think the price did not match the value at $48 for a ribeye which is a fair price if you can execute. The unfortunate thing was we had to eat our dish separately....sides first, waiting for steaks to be cooked properly. I would say this is more of a bar and not a restaurant. Check was $150 mismatched value costs versus quality of food. Very nice people and as I said good service but unfortunately did not hit the mark and not my first choice for a nice dinner. What a GEM on this side of Modesto! Ample parking, clean bathrooms, great lighting, and a spacious layout of low and high seating, including bar side. I love a great bar with attentive staff with a menu packed full of flavorful options! The Lamb Sliders, the Brussels Sprouts, the Brisket Burger, the Pretzel with Jalapeno Beer Cheese, you can't really go wrong here! Can't wait to try more items! The food was very disappointing. My fish was fried but mushy on the inside and my salad came out drenched in dressing, gross. Others had burgers but they said they weren't anything special. Fries were extremely over salted. Even the water and soda had a weird taste. Given the price and posted pictures I expected more. The service was very slow as well. Maybe you have to be drunk to enjoy. There were some pretty loud sloppy seeming group of ladies that seemed to be loving the place. Won't be doing this place again!! read more

My family and I ate here after Church. Great service, friendly staff. We liked the chill ambience even though it was packed. Server was swamped and killing it as she worked all the tables by herself & pregnant to top it off. My daughter got the basic burger added guacamole w/sweet potato fries it was fire! Server reccomended Cheese appetizer, & chips and guac... also bomb! Food took a bit to come out but server kept our drinks topped off and she kept checking in. We will be back on Sunday. read more

This place was just OK for me. We were a group of 5 and were seated in a back corner. it was really loud and I had a hard time conversing during dinner. I split the fish and chips. They were small greasy pieces of fish. which (to me) is not true fish and chips. Im an English girl and love traditional thick chunky pieces of halibut or cod with a light crispy dipped batter. The regular salad was fresh and delicious. I would order that again. it's a pub type atmosphere in a big open space. Service was just ok. it took FOREVER just to get asked if we would like water or a drink to start. then took forever to receive them. they were busy which is great. I want businesses to succeed in this town. But, you have to have good hustling employees which I know is also hard to get these days. I think she was pregnant and just didn't want to be there? I get it.. but if you do show up... smile:) and... if you are the manager we saw... why arent you picking up the slack helping tables if they are busy instead of talking to a table forever? you should have a pulse on your floor and servers. and jump in quick when you see a table that hasn't had any service for about 10 minutes. Right? I'll go back and try again... but.. it wont be my first choice for food and atmosphere. Unless I feel like sitting at the bar and not talking. lol read more

The Standard Pub is, for now, a hidden gem. I say "for now" because when more people find out how great their food is, everyone is going to be talking about it. The atmosphere was laid back and relaxed during my visit, which was probably not during one of its busy periods. But my table was still met with friendly and helpful staff who seemed genuinely interested in making sure we had a good time. And thanks to the incredible food we received, that was virtually guaranteed. How someone can make a hot chicken sandwich that tastes incredible but *doesn't* leave you feeling greasy and bloated afterward, I have no idea. But that's exactly what happened. I was told by others at my table that the cocktails were excellent, and at the very least I can assure you that the water is good. And since this is in Modesto, that sort of statement really means something when some places will just hand you tap water. If The Standard Pub can keep up with this level of quality, then I truly wish it all the success in the world. I'll be frequenting this place on a regular basis. read more

Went here on Wednesday and the ambience inside was quite nice. The waitress had excellent customer service and the buffalo wings were good. For my entree I got the salmon with asparagus and mashed potatoes and my fiance got the chicken sandwich. The salmon was nicely cooked but the crisp around the salmon was incredibly salty. They were out of asparagus so they gave me carrots and zucchini. The mash potatoes were green and terrible. It felt like they lacked seasoning and flavor. I would stay away from the mash. I tried my fiance's chicken sandwich and the chicken was very juicy but it had the same issue as my salmon. Whenever i bit the breading on the chicken, i got a big wave of salt. With price in mind, I'm going to round my rating to a 2/5 because I would definitely not come back and try something else. read more

Place looks good for a bar/pub feel. Good amount of TVs. Came on a Monday night and it wasn't terribly crowded. Go for the game and the drinks it wasn't easy to hear wife talking (so many jokes I could add). Waitress was nice but overall service was extremely slow. Again if you're going to watch a game then you probably won't mind unless your refill is slow. Wife had the Nashville Hot sandwich. She said it was good. I had the fried chicken specifically because I did not want a sandwich. Very bland. A little disappointed. Also want to point out their speciality cocktails were good but the standard mixed drinks were a little off. I guess we went when their toilets were blowing up too. Shit happens. Overall would probably go back for sandwiches and beer; after the current diet. read more
