Morrocan Lamb Pie

I just love this place! Non-descript store front makes you wonder if there is even a place to dine here. But turn right down the side street and there is a parking lot in the back. Inside, it's a small and intimate place. You can fit 6 to 8 people around the bar, one larger table and then several two seater tables. They also have a covered patioout back. They serve tapas, and several of them are gluten-free. Beer and wine only, and sometimes a cider or two, but they have a good rotating selection. Everyone who works here is just plain cool. Great amount of attention, and are just interesting people to talk to They do all the preparing and cooking right in front of you if you are at the bar. Food is always really good to great! Stable place to eat if you want to get out from the mainstream places and support local business in Modesto!

I chose to sit at the bar. Got to meet the owner named Ty. Ordered the garlic, thyme bone marrow which was excellent with the crusty bread and romaine salad underneath. The gambas de ajillo tasted just like if I got Argentinian frozen shrimp with salted butter, garlic, and shallots. Great with the crusty bread. I found getting the bone marrow more worth it. Was told to come back for the sausages. Can't wait!

Felt a positive vibe upon entry, we sat in bar area. The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming. We were passing through but this spot left an imprint on my tastebuds. We ordered Pinot and Chardonnay. Pork Belly, whipped Fetta, Beef Wellington, sirloin steak, garlic Brie bomb, patatas braves. All were cooked perfectly. My personal faves were the pork Belly dish and garlic Brie bomb.

Hmm so where do I start...maybe the fact that this place feels like you're part of a private club or something. I've been to this place maybe 3 times now with my wife and every time the vibe is right and the food is good! We always go prior to their busy times so we always get tremendous service! If you didn't know this place existed you would walk right past it. The inside is small but has a cool vibe to it. It's almost like a bar setting but where the bar would typically be the chef is cooking right in front of you! Every time we've come the food is always great! They change their menu out every so often but don't worry anything they have is going to bring your taste buds for a ride! One of my favorite spots in Modesto!

The special....octopus!

Love this place! We tried it for the first time a few weeks ago and it did not disappoint. We met the charming owner who was gracious enough to come over and introduce himself. The service was topnotch! We ordered the special (octopus) and it was DELICIOUS! The eclectic ambiance was great.

VEGAN SPECIFIC REVIEW: Bauhaus is VERY vegan friendly. I looked on Yelp to find a place that offered a vegan brunch in Modesto and Bauhaus popped up. Everything I ordered was absolutely outstanding. I ordered 4 items and split them with my partner and we were both satisfied with the brunch but not too stuffed. Not pictured is my seasonal spritz which had pomegranate seeds, strawberries, mango juice, blackberry juice, and something else that I'm forgetting. It was a 10/10). Our food came out at a decent pace, it felt like we had a 5-10 minute window between dishes which I personally enjoyed because you get to enjoy a freshly made/hot dish for every dish that you order. I only had to wait a few minutes to be seated at the bar/kitchen front area so I enjoyed watching the food be made! They even had purse hooks under the top of the bar!!!! This restaurant has a small place to park around back which is great! Overall an excellent experience!

Great service and food! Fun little spot in Modesto. Everything was delicious. We don't drink but they also had a large selection of craft beers. They don't setve soda, but we had Pellegrino Blood Orange and lemonade drinks

Garlic brie bomb (soooo good! Great appetizer!)

Called 30mins before arrival with a party of 6, the place was already packed, but they took our reservation. Very cozy place, more big tables outside. Most ppl sit on the bar. Beer and non-alcoholic kombucha were top-tier! They had one guy cooking up INCREDIBLE dishes, every bite is amazing. Perfect dinner, would highly recommend!

Here, you order your food, grab a number, and find your own seat for the food to be brought out to you. We sat at a table outside to decide what to order. There were no menus available so we just had to search for it online before heading inside to order. Despite being third in line from the register, we had an extremely long wait to order. There was only one person running the register who also had to make the drinks, meaning the service incredibly slow. We wanted to order the five taco platter, garlic fries, chicken Caesar salad, and mimosa pitcher. Sadly, we were only able to get the pitcher and salad. The cashier told us "sorry, we aren't doing fries right now." Not doing fries? Every plate in the vicinity had fries on them. She said that because it was brunch hour, only food on the brunch menu could be ordered. We looked at the brunch menu again and literally saw garlic fries as an option as a side for the burgers/sandwiches. No where did it specify that you can't order off the other menu and both were available online. What bothered us about this is that we placed this order at around 1:50pm, and brunch ended at 2:00pm. I understand that we are not entitled to things on the lunch menu during brunch-time for items like the tacos, but considering the menu swap was less than 10 minutes away and they were quite literally were "doing fries" at the time, it didn't make much sense to us. The only food that we ended up ordering was the Chicken Caesar Salad. This one dish took a super long time to receive. By the time it was brought out, the three of us nearly finished the Mimosa pitcher. The waitress noticed we had no silverware and said she would go grab us some. Because of how the service had been going thus far, we placed a bet on whether or not the waitress would come back with the silverware. Surprise, surprise. She didn't. We had to go inside later and search for silverware ourselves. We weren't even able to get sharing plates which was upsetting since the waitress asked us if we would be sharing the salad. The salad itself looked delicious, but was bland. The dressing was missing that zing and zest that a Caesar dressing typically has. I do appreciate that is was a chopped salad, had avocado, and seasoned croutons. It is just unfortunate that it was lacking any flavor at all. The food prices are quite affordable for the quantity of food you receive though. This experience was disappointing because I was so optimistic about the place. The menu looked good, it had fun and casual vibes and a cool crowd of people. If Commonwealth worked towards better service practices, it would have been a more positive experience.

They have their own parking lot with plenty of parking & a large warehouse venue that appears to host different events. It was clean & well organized. The bathroom was clean & well stocked. Beer: They had about 13 different beers on tap, all proprietary brews. We normally stick with IPAs but did try a very nice stout based on the recommendation of one of the regulars. The IPAs were a perfect blend of crisp & hoppy. They had cans to go as well. Customer Service: We had an opportunity to meet the brewmaster, Jonas. He couldn't have been more friendly & welcoming. When we asked for a can label to take home as a souvenir, he enthusiastically gave us 5 different labels to take with us. Food: There was a sign outside that said we could get a free appetizer with the purchase of a pint. Sure enough, we ended up with 2 very tasty street tacos from the food vendor. I highly recommend coming in & supporting your local brewery. Look for the parrot mural on the side of the building-- hard to miss!

Woman owned, plenty of seating, quite the selection of board games to play while hanging out. The beer selection, I have not seen one that extensive in a while, including ones brewed in-house!!! They have live music sometimes with a clever indoor/outdoor stage, which is also a perk. It was a very cozy, comfortable, and safe vibe going there, especially since I was there enjoying my drinks solo. The staff were very friendly despite the crowd and long line, happy to explain their "on tap" selections with only one offering being unavailable that evening. I had a Nitro Stout and then later a Cherry Cheesecake Pie Hard Seltzer, both brewed by them, and both were delicious. The hard seltzer did have all those flavor notes and it wasn't overly chemical sweetened, which I greatly appreciated. And I was so happy to see a darker beer option on their menu as the current trends tend to heavily favor the IPA's. Had an overnight work trip that had me in Modesto so I was trying to find something fun to eat…read more After a bit of research I found this place. I showed up around 7pm and I thought it might have been closed because no one was here. But they were open. I ordered a Bauer burger with the house seasoned fries. They asked how I'd like the egg cooked and the burger cooked: I asked for medium for both. Given how dead the place was, it did take a minute to get my food. The burger was ok, not worth $21. The bun fell apart very quickly which is a bit of a cardinal sin in the burger game. The bacon on the burger was not bacon strips but a bit of bacon crumble. The patty was a bit overcooked so it was dry and it wasn't seasoned so it was bland. The egg was cooked perfectly, but the aioli and the egg yolk with a disintegrated bun made for a huge mess. The fries were interesting. The house seasoned fries are not salted. So the fries were almost sweet due to the spices, but no salt. And they do not have regular table ketchup or malt vinegar. I did ask for some ketchup and they brought me their house ketchup. While not like a classic ketchup, it was actually quite good. Oh, be aware. They will charge you a 4% fee when they bring you the check (what would have happened if I'd paid with cash?). I do not see anywhere on the menu where they say their is a payment fee so that is a pretty shady business practice. Overall: meh. I think for the price point the burger should have been great, but sadly I can't say it was great or even good. I'd likely not return.
