    Shrimp quesadillas
    Cheryl V.

Modesto-There were three of us and funny enough, all three of us ordered the same entrée! The ambience of this place is very cool and very chic. Drinks were especially yummy, but I have a complaint about the drink menu....WAY TOO MANY choices! There were about six different drinks I wanted to try, but I narrowed it down to some coconut margaritas and left it at that. lol They were delicious. All of us had the shrimp quesadillas. Perfectly cooked and stuffed full of shrimp and cheese. Beans and rice were yummy as well. This is a restaurant that has been around Modesto for several years and they are consistently great. Service was not amazing, but the food was fantastic.

They really have decorated this place extremely well, the big mural as you enter dining area is incredible. Excellent service, my wife asked for a spicy sauce, waitress came back a while later and explained she added some dry chile de árbol to their spiciest salsa...game recognizes game!!! My wife can eat chile this waitress recognized that and made her a special one, it was apparently very good, i can't hang with my wife's spicy eating game so i won't attempt to try something that she thinks it's spicy, that's just painful. I ordered tampiquena plate and wife a chicken wet burrito which were both really good. Overall 4.5 stars for vibe, service and food. Will be coming back for sure. This would be a great place to watch a soccer or futbol game large tvs and very nice outdoor sitting area also.

Overall enjoyable but not spectacular. We felt that when it was Memos, it was a bit better.

This review is for Las Casuelas on Sylvan Ave, the first time since it closed as Memos and re-opened under the new name. The decor seemed unchanged (nice, modern for the most part with private booths added.) My wife and I found the food of good quality, with an interesting, flavorful red pepper a part of the shrimp dish my wife had and I tasted. Not at all hot but added a nice flavor to the offering. The meal was standard fare overall, nothing to distinguish it from the three other such Mexican places within a 3/4 mile radius. To be honest a small step down from two of them. The service was OK but not proactive, having to flag down someone to order. In fact both my wife and I noticed one server standing chatting with the solo lady in the next table almost the entire time of our visit. One wonders what his peers thought of the sharing of duties.

We went there in a family gathering. First of all, the free chips and salsa are AMAZING. The chips are warm and freshly cooked. I will go again there just for the chips. Coming to the food, I ordered burrito loco which is like a Cali burrito. It comes with fries, guacamole, chicken, rice and bean inside. It tastes good expect I feel the Chicken should be more seasoned, mine tastes very chicken. I normally don't enjoy the boil meat flavor (I am Indian duhh) I took off one star because of the chicken. The service is excellent, the server gave two refills of the chips, mostly consumed by me. And we didn't ask for it, she asked if we want refill. Also we waited 10-15 mins for part of the family to arrive, and the server didn't ask once if we are ready to order, no rushing of any kind. A must visit Mexican place. I will definitely go again there.

This was our first time coming to this Casuelas location. We always go to the Turlock location but it did not disappoint. The inside is much nicer than Turlock. The food was great but our server was exceptional. Claudia made us feel like family the moment she came to our table. She was extremely friendly and kind. She went above and beyond. We will definitely be coming back because of her.

The poorest made cucumber marg I've had at las casuelas. No muddling, no tajin, no chamoy. Weak

Very clean and large location. Was surprised to find it empty. No one even at the bar. I see why now. Slow and careless service. Sat there for several minutes ignored . With no other customers around mind you. We are used to the Dale location. The drinks are not even close to the same. There isn't a real bartender at this location. No tajin, or muddled cucumber in my cucumber margarita. No chamoy rim. Asked for a double, couldn't even remember that. Management should be on top of securing a decent bar tender like Miguel or Omar. Weak , half assed drinks. Piss poor service. I don't see this location making it long. Too bad. Lots of potential. 2 weak drinks for $25. No thanks .

The molcajete with three meats was delicious and very hot! Our server Eric was super nice and checked in on us many times throughout the stay, the hostess was a young Mexican gal and was super sweet. Margaritas were scrumptious as well, will definitely be coming back!

Screenshot Data File of Chewed Meat-Cartilage

I have been patronizing Las Casuelas Mexican Restaurant on Sylvan Avenue for the last several months. Las Casuelas is one of the best Mexican restaurants in Modesto and I have been buying food-to-go there one to two times per month. On June 13th, I stopped by and ordered the dish, "Enchiladas Mexicanas." I purchased the food with my debit card. I went home, started eating the food and - to my utter shock - found a large piece of USED CHEWED meat cartilage in my enchiladas that came off the plate of another (dine-in) customer. I was grossed out by the taste. I took it out and was disgusted. I took a screenshot of the used meat, discarded the food and left home to return to the restaurant. Once there, the place was full of customers and I asked to speak with the owner. A few minutes later, a manager came to see me at the front desk. I told him exactly what happened in detail. I showed him the screenshot of the meat to which he took a picture of it. The manager quickly offered to either refund my money or offer me a new plate. I opted for the new plate and asked him to watch over whomever would fix my plate, which he agreed to do. He also offered me a drink as I wait for the food, to which I agreed. I ordered this dish a few times before so I know what it tastes like and never had a problem with it - or any other plate of food I ordered there before - until now; I told the manager this fact and stated that whomever prepared the first dish will have to be dealt with. He assured me that he would get to the bottom of the matter. Since that day, I wondered if anything was done about the employee that fixed my to-go plate, and I wanted to find out whether that employee was still working there so I will be better able to decide if to continue visiting the restaurant. So last Friday, June 27th, I paid a follow up visit to Las Casuelas. That was how much I really liked their food. However, at that time there were hardly any other customers there. I spoke with the same manager and asked him what he found. He stated that he spoke with the kitchen employees and that no one put anything in my food - despite the screenshot of the meat/cartilage I showed him in front of all the customers that were around me. I told him I did NOT expect workers to admit to wrongdoing. He stated that none of the preparers chewed meat and put it inside my plate. I told him that "I never said that the preparer chewed food and put it in my plate. I said that the piece came off the plate of another customer that dined in." I told him that the used (chewed) meat/cartilage from another customer's plate posed a public health risk and that there is no telling what (illness, disease) that was in the meat. However, he continued to deny any wrongdoing on any employee's part. The last question I asked him was if they have any cameras in their kitchen, to which he answered "yes." Afterwards, the manager asked me if I were going to place an order. I responded by saying, "Not today, I'm having something else." So, he said, "Sorry, I got to go." I said, "Ok, thank you" and left. I am NOT looking for any financial or material benefit in writing this review-public announcement and I make it clear that I did NOT make a follow-up visit last Friday for the purpose of requesting and/or receiving any financial (ex: refund, etc.) or material (ex: free food) benefit. I did NOT request anything other than wanting the employee to no longer work at Las Casuelas, especially since the manager answered "yes" to my question of whether the restaurant has cameras in the kitchen to watch what goes on. Since there are cameras in the kitchen there is no way that went on could not be recorded and seen. The manager's complete denial of everything I said happened with my food to my face was both disrespectful and insulting because in doing so, HE CALLED ME A LIAR! It was disrespectful because he conveyed that I was being dishonest about what happened and concocted the negative experience. It was insulting because he indirectly implied that I put the meat-cartilage in my food myself and lied on his employee(s) so I could obtain some type of benefit. It was also an insult to me as a regular customer. He implied that I could not be trusted to be truthful in my report of a negative experience I encountered with their food for the first time! What he said made it very clear that he did not deal with the employee that fixed my plate of food and that the person is STILL working there - which answered my question on whether to continue buying food at there.

Looking at the exterior, we could only guess what was coming. Walking in just after opening gave us opportunity to marvel over the beautifully appointed interior without bothering yet to arrive lunch customers. After perusing the menu, which we had somewhat studied pre decision to dine here, our waiter Matteo filled in item by item our understanding of the many menu options. With his help and suggestions we four decided to share two "starters" - the whipped feta - half classic and half smoky. Both were delicious! We chose the 4 piece Bruschetta with a suggested cheese added. It too rang the delicious bell. We picked paninis for our main course: Flank steak, French dip and Prosciutto & Fig Jam. Each would be served with a side salad - either Spinach or Spring. We all chose Spinach. The sandwiches were full of the components as described. My wife's Prosciutto & Fig Jam had prosciutto from end to end countering a review to the contrary I had read. The other paninis were likewise filled. The Spinach side salads were loaded with walnuts and cranberries. The amount of feta was adequate. the total amount of salad was more than I expected. My wife ordered a dessert to go, and just reported to me that was superb. We had to forgo any wine with lunch as we had miles to drive home afterward. But I await the day we can spend the night in town and enjoy some selections of their impressive wine stock and not have to drive home. A Friday evening comes to mind. It must happen so we can try out more items of their well chosen fare. A couple of the pokes look scrumptious and a few more of the paninis await my gastric juices. We were pleasantly surprised by Damon bringing us a complimentary Chocolate Panini served with house made whipped zcream (who even serves that these days?) He said that we HAD to try his #1 selling item from the whole menu before we left. We tasted, and learned why it had reached that status. Good in appearance. Perfect in creation, Superb in taste. Kudos by the bucketful to Damon, Matteo, and the rest of the staff who helped this Birthday Bash be warm & fuzzy and highly enjoyed. If you haven't yet. I suggest you put Camp 4 on your high priority list and enjoy the experience as I'm sure you will. We sure did!

Here, you order your food, grab a number, and find your own seat for the food to be brought out to you. We sat at a table outside to decide what to order. There were no menus available so we just had to search for it online before heading inside to order. Despite being third in line from the register, we had an extremely long wait to order. There was only one person running the register who also had to make the drinks, meaning the service incredibly slow. We wanted to order the five taco platter, garlic fries, chicken Caesar salad, and mimosa pitcher. Sadly, we were only able to get the pitcher and salad. The cashier told us "sorry, we aren't doing fries right now." Not doing fries? Every plate in the vicinity had fries on them. She said that because it was brunch hour, only food on the brunch menu could be ordered. We looked at the brunch menu again and literally saw garlic fries as an option as a side for the burgers/sandwiches. No where did it specify that you can't order off the other menu and both were available online. What bothered us about this is that we placed this order at around 1:50pm, and brunch ended at 2:00pm. I understand that we are not entitled to things on the lunch menu during brunch-time for items like the tacos, but considering the menu swap was less than 10 minutes away and they were quite literally were "doing fries" at the time, it didn't make much sense to us. The only food that we ended up ordering was the Chicken Caesar Salad. This one dish took a super long time to receive. By the time it was brought out, the three of us nearly finished the Mimosa pitcher. The waitress noticed we had no silverware and said she would go grab us some. Because of how the service had been going thus far, we placed a bet on whether or not the waitress would come back with the silverware. Surprise, surprise. She didn't. We had to go inside later and search for silverware ourselves. We weren't even able to get sharing plates which was upsetting since the waitress asked us if we would be sharing the salad. The salad itself looked delicious, but was bland. The dressing was missing that zing and zest that a Caesar dressing typically has. I do appreciate that is was a chopped salad, had avocado, and seasoned croutons. It is just unfortunate that it was lacking any flavor at all. The food prices are quite affordable for the quantity of food you receive though. This experience was disappointing because I was so optimistic about the place. The menu looked good, it had fun and casual vibes and a cool crowd of people. If Commonwealth worked towards better service practices, it would have been a more positive experience.
