We picked CAMP 4 for a birthday celebration lunch after reading reviews and considering several other of Modesto's eateries. We were not disappointed. Looking at the exterior, we could only guess what was coming. Walking in just after opening gave us opportunity to marvel over the beautifully appointed interior without bothering yet to arrive lunch customers. After perusing the menu, which we had somewhat studied pre decision to dine here, our waiter Matteo filled in item by item our understanding of the many menu options. With his help and suggestions we four decided to share two "starters" - the whipped feta - half classic and half smoky. Both were delicious! We chose the 4 piece Bruschetta with a suggested cheese added. It too rang the delicious bell. We picked paninis for our main course: Flank steak, French dip and Prosciutto & Fig Jam. Each would be served with a side salad - either Spinach or Spring. We all chose Spinach. The sandwiches were full of the components as described. My wife's Prosciutto & Fig Jam had prosciutto from end to end countering a review to the contrary I had read. The other paninis were likewise filled. The Spinach side salads were loaded with walnuts and cranberries. The amount of feta was adequate. the total amount of salad was more than I expected. My wife ordered a dessert to go, and just reported to me that was superb. We had to forgo any wine with lunch as we had miles to drive home afterward. But I await the day we can spend the night in town and enjoy some selections of their impressive wine stock and not have to drive home. A Friday evening comes to mind. It must happen so we can try out more items of their well chosen fare. A couple of the pokes look scrumptious and a few more of the paninis await my gastric juices. We were pleasantly surprised by Damon bringing us a complimentary Chocolate Panini served with house made whipped zcream (who even serves that these days?) He said that we HAD to try his #1 selling item from the whole menu before we left. We tasted, and learned why it had reached that status. Good in appearance. Perfect in creation, Superb in taste. Kudos by the bucketful to Damon, Matteo, and the rest of the staff who helped this Birthday Bash be warm & fuzzy and highly enjoyed. If you haven't yet. This place has a wonderful vibe to it! There is plenty of seating and they're willing to accommodate for bigger parties. Our server did forget my matcha, but said it would be on the house and he kept his promise. I wasn't a big fan of it, but try it and see for yourself if you like it. However, I think he also forgot that we didn't order cucumbers in our appetizer, and we ended up being charged a buck.50 for it, but turns out it was delicious and worth it. She also accommodated my friend, who is very picky which is partially why the pepper and the honey is separated in our appetizer and why her sandwich that is unpictured has no tomatoes or mayo. He was very kind and understanding about it! I thoroughly enjoyed my Panini, and devoured the whole thing. I loved the lemon rosemary mayonnaise, and that you can actually taste the citrus. Wow! I met some friends here to celebrate a birthday. The staff is so kind and helpful! The menu isn't too big and everything is so fresh and seems to be very good quality. You can't go wrong with one of the paninis and the whipped feta is perfection. If you aren't feeling like having wine they also have a few interesting cocktails that are very well balanced. For my friend's birthday they brought out a dessert panini that had a candle for her to blow out. Beautiful touch! Although, my server was kind and very good at their job, they smelled like cigarettes. No big deal, but it was a little off-putting. Ambiance was A+. Wine selection was also first rate. We got the Howell Mountain Zin and it was outstanding. Tuesday night 30% bottle discount put it just above cost according to my Vivino app cost estimate. The appetizer was good. We had the Bruschetta which had a good flavor but the bread wasn't crispy to offset the texture of the toppings. Needed more crunch to really put it over the top. Tom kha gai soup was amazing! Loved the subtle flavors and the coconut milk made the difference. Great heat level too. Absolutely delicious. My favorite part of the meal by a long shot! We had the poke ahi tuna bowl and it was just okay. Too much heat and sauce. Needed more offsets to balance the heat and overpowering flavors. We ordered more white rice to dilute the intensity of the sauce. Still not enough to make it shine though. Final note: the restroom situation is totally discriminating against men. There is a women's restroom and an all gender restroom. I waited longer than usual to use the all gender restroom and turned out a woman was using it while the women's restroom was empty. Just make them both all gender or make them gender specific. Second time I have been there and had to wait for an extended time. Really annoying and certainly not suited to my situation as I just paid a significant amount for a meal there and felt like a second class citizen. Overall a decent time out but would not order the same entree or apps again. Bathroom situation really pisses me off enough though to not want to go again and support/reinforce/fund this overt discrimination against men. read more

We've been frequenting Camp 4 for many years, so I find it hard to believe that I've never reviewed it before! Simply put, this is the absolute best date spot in Modesto, Quick tip: make a reservation, just makes things easier. When you first walk in, you immediately notice the ambiance, and the front area is dimly lit seems kind of small, but it's the perfect atmosphere to enjoy yourself and your company. But don't think that's all, there is a huge annex in the back that can accommodate larger parties. The food is simply incredible, they almost always have something special on the menu that they didn't the month before. Always gives you something new to try. The wine selection is awesome and they offer wine flights, if you'd like to try a few different wines at once. I've tried most things on the menu, from the paninis to the baller board. I cannot recommend the baller board enough, it's an absolute enormous selection of meats, cheeses, nuts, and fruit selections. They explain the entire board and give you all the details about each item. Please, give Camp 4 a try if you haven't already. I promise it'll be your next go to spot. read more

Camp 4 is the best wine experience in the area, but only marginally. They do offer a seasonal flight, but they don't have wine tasting, and have a small selection of wines you can order by the glass. My real gripe is that the pricing has gotten way out of control. They seem to think they are a fine dining establishment, when last I checked, paninis are the opposite. The poke bowl was both the most expensive and worst poke bowl I've ever had. A sandwich should not be more than $20. Feta cheese should not be more than $20. For excellent wine, great small bites, and the same price, I'd rather spend my time lounging at Galletto or Dewz. read more

They are from California and all over the world! They are always outstanding! The Bruscetta Appetizer and Dinner Salads are outstanding as well! I make sure to bring everyone here or recommend it to anyone looking for a good spot. They are located off Kansas on 10th street. The parking lot is small and typically full but don't let that intimidate you, you can find some street parking around the corner. I recommend making a reservation through resy. Weekends get busy and they don't require a card down when you make it, so might as well! The space is stunning. The front half of the restaurant is dark and cozy. They have a host stand with a small merch table upon entering. There's a combination of high and low top tables, the gorgeous bar top featuring all their wine, and you can also see the kitchen busting out plates of food. I would say the back half of the restaurant is designed more for larger parties. They use this space for private events and game night on Thursdays (they serve up pizza these nights!). Definitely take advantage of the good looking patio on warmer days. From the salads to paninis and everything in between, everything is simple and delicious. These are my must get menu items: spicy poke, smoked whipped feta, bruschetta add burrata, froze (summer time special), and the chocolate panini. The staff is always so knowledgeable, attentive, and friendly. They really understand wine pairings and that is helpful for non-wine drinkers like me. Yesterday we decided to pick up dinner bc we were meeting friends at the park before the concert. I began making our order online but it wouldn't accept a GC we wanted to use. When I called to place our order Damon answered, I explained my dilemma and he kindly took our order saying we could pay when we picked it up. We arrived at 6:30 pm, the order was ready and off we went. I ordered the flank steak poke bowl and my husband had the flank steak panini, his favorite. I must say, I have never had such tender and juicy flank steak! We asked if we each could have it cooked medium rare and they delivered. Plastic ware and napkins were requested and included. There were two cool boards that periodically shared random quotes and music lyrics, The server was attentive and provided suggestions upon our request. I started with a froze drink with a Tajin rim and it was delightful. My husband ordered the vegan poke bowl made with lightly grilled portobello mushrooms. He felt the bowl was flavorful and had a tangy sauce. I ordered the portobello panini with a side of ciabatta chips. The panini was flavorful and had a good amount of mushroom and had a tasty chipotle mayo. I didn't necessarily love the chips. My daughter got the flank steak panini with a side salad. She enjoyed the chimichurri mayo in the sandwich and felt it gave the sandwich a good balance of flavor. When in the Modesto area we would go to Camp 4 again. read more
