Braised short ribs. Tender, and fell apart with fork. - A dinner plate displays braised short ribs placed on a bed of mashed potatoes, with cooked green asparagus spears underneath. The dish is garnished with a sauce, and a fork and knife are positioned on the right side of the plate. In the background, there is a glass of red wine, a bottle of Joel Gott wine from 2022, and a small container holding condiments or utensils. The setting appears to be a restaurant table with a wooden surface.

Food was great. Large portions. Lamb popsicles and braised short ribs ,garlic mashed and asparagus. Everything tasted great and cooked to perfection.

Buffalo wings - A white plate holds several buffalo chicken wings coated in orange buffalo sauce, arranged with some on a bed of greens. There are celery sticks and a small container of dipping sauce in the corner. The dish appears to be served in a restaurant setting.

This is one of the best stand alone hotel restaurants I've been to. The restaurant was clean and each table had fresh flowers on them. The service was exceptional and that was solely because of our waiter - Dino! Let me tell ya growing up in vegas where customer service is everything Dino was one of the best waiters I've ever had. He was affable and went above and beyond to provide a great dinning experience for my wife and I. Side note to manager - give this guy a raise or promotion. Ok...to the food. I ordered the short rib panini and was blown away by the flavor, freshness and tenderness of the meat. Easily one of the best sandwiches I've had. My wife got some buffalo wings and side Caesar salad which were also great. The wings were perfectly tossed in buffalo sauce and had a nice crunch on them. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone staying at the double tree or anyone visiting Modesto. Bravo!

Best calamari, hands-down! - A white plate filled with fried calamari rings garnished with chopped green onions is placed on a wooden table. Lemon wedges are positioned on the side of the plate. In the background, there is a small white dish with additional lemon wedges, a bottle of hot sauce, and a fork on the right side of the plate. The setting appears to be a restaurant with upholstered chairs visible behind the table.

Great bar food at the Double Tree Hotel Excellent friendly service from all staff and my good friend Ron ! Happy anniversary 30 years on site. You are the very best my friend. They're in temporary digs whilst they remodel the bar. Still comfortable. See you here

Food was good, service was friendly. Was pretty empty when we went. Wasn't bad at all, I'd go back to give it another try.

Maxi's is located inside the Doubletree Hotel. So to start the day I came here for breakfast. Once you enter you are greeted and seated immediately as they must cater to business travelers that have limited time. As most hotels offer a buffet I always stay clear and order off the menu. Two reasons I don't need the extra calories of having everything on a buffet. Also I want it freshly made for me and just to order what I want. Cost wise it is usually less but it isn't the sole driver for my decision here. I order a cappuccino and it arrives quickly. For my breakfast I have eggs sunny side up. My bread choices did not include my favorite rye bread so I got sour dough figuring it is usually a good choice in San Francisco and geographically close enough. Breakfast came out quickly and was served just as fast. I was surprised to learn from the waitress that they are open all day. Which is great to have thst option on the hotel as it is convenient. When it was time to settle up the check I printed and signed my name. Since I did not use my middle name my server checked my ID. Now I am all for safety but logically speaking who would steal my identity and get my room number correct as well as my name and signature but for a middle name check. Whatever sad times we are living in and Modesto must have alot of criminals coming through. Service and food were good as well as the convenience of being on site where I was stayimg. The next day I just wanted to leave Modesto quickly so I skipped breakfast and checked out of the hotel instead.

Nothing like a glass of wine after a long day!!!

I stayed at the hotel last night and had dinner and breakfast this morning. Salmon was excellent and eggs Benedict pretty good. I'm not normally a bread eater, but those poppyseed sourdough rolls were bomb! Food is presented nicely and tasty. Ambience and customer service also very good. Nice place for a romantic dinner or by yourself. Will come again when back in town in December.

Very tender and well seasoned Braised Shortribs and a glass of Zin. Freshly baked bread with butter is a bonus. The staff was very friendly.

Pork chop with risotto, brussel sprouts, and endive.

It is always a great spot to invite colleagues, family, and friends. Sadly disappointed…read more My friends and I stopped by Commonwealth on a Saturday afternoon for a late brunch. It was a beautiful day so it was busy for both indoor and outdoor seating. Here, you order your food, grab a number, and find your own seat for the food to be brought out to you. We sat at a table outside to decide what to order. There were no menus available so we just had to search for it online before heading inside to order. Despite being third in line from the register, we had an extremely long wait to order. There was only one person running the register who also had to make the drinks, meaning the service incredibly slow. We wanted to order the five taco platter, garlic fries, chicken Caesar salad, and mimosa pitcher. Sadly, we were only able to get the pitcher and salad. The cashier told us "sorry, we aren't doing fries right now." Not doing fries? Every plate in the vicinity had fries on them. She said that because it was brunch hour, only food on the brunch menu could be ordered. We looked at the brunch menu again and literally saw garlic fries as an option as a side for the burgers/sandwiches. No where did it specify that you can't order off the other menu and both were available online. What bothered us about this is that we placed this order at around 1:50pm, and brunch ended at 2:00pm. I understand that we are not entitled to things on the lunch menu during brunch-time for items like the tacos, but considering the menu swap was less than 10 minutes away and they were quite literally were "doing fries" at the time, it didn't make much sense to us. The only food that we ended up ordering was the Chicken Caesar Salad. This one dish took a super long time to receive. By the time it was brought out, the three of us nearly finished the Mimosa pitcher. The waitress noticed we had no silverware and said she would go grab us some. Because of how the service had been going thus far, we placed a bet on whether or not the waitress would come back with the silverware. Surprise, surprise. She didn't. We had to go inside later and search for silverware ourselves. We weren't even able to get sharing plates which was upsetting since the waitress asked us if we would be sharing the salad. The salad itself looked delicious, but was bland. The dressing was missing that zing and zest that a Caesar dressing typically has. I do appreciate that is was a chopped salad, had avocado, and seasoned croutons. It is just unfortunate that it was lacking any flavor at all. The food prices are quite affordable for the quantity of food you receive though. This experience was disappointing because I was so optimistic about the place. The menu looked good, it had fun and casual vibes and a cool crowd of people. If Commonwealth worked towards better service practices, it would have been a more positive experience.

We ordered the asparagus and the Brussels sprouts as appetizers and split the New York steak. I'm giving a 5-star here because it's rare to find things up to this standard, but I have some points for improvement. The service was good, but my drink order was incorrect. Not a big deal or worth one less start. However, the ambiance is close but not quite. We had a reservation and, upon arrival, were seated between two full tables. One had two children who were loud and wiggly throughout our whole meal. (Nothing against children, they were totally appropriate for their age and very cute) But it would be nice if reservations had designated areas that were a bit farther away from the crunch of the walk-in crowd. Nothing we experienced took away from the great food, so the 5-star remains. Looking forward to another visit.

ALL the waitstaff and manager (I think- blue floral polo) were very focused on closure for the full hour. Unloading clean dishes, stocking the bar, a lot of watch checking. This is pretty off-putting when trying to enjoy food and feeling the pressure of closing time. No ongoing smiles or eye contact. Ambience: very cute, modern vibe. May need to look into some sound absorption material as there is quite loud reverberations from lively parties nearby. I also felt the employees were not very happy and I felt it was due to them being under extreme scrutiny of above-mentioned manager. Nobody smiled.

My party was seated fairly quickly. Our waitress took all our orders by memory - we were a party of 8! I got the Chicken Marsala: Chicken, sauce, mixed veggies, mashed potatoes, and gravy. I started off with the mixed veggies - they were cooked soft, just how I like them. They were also flavorful! Not just regular ole steamed frozen veggies, they definitely were buttered and seasoned or something. Next, the mashed potatoes. I'm not a mashed potato connoisseur - matter of fact, I usually skip eating mashed potatoes when they're available. These mashed potatoes however were so flavorful! And it was not only the gravy doing all the talking, it was both the mash and the gravy. I was impressed! Lastly, the chicken Marsala. The chicken itself was cooked to perfection, moist on the inside & fully cooked - and with chicken breast, we all know how hard that is to accomplish. The sauce was incredible. I have never had any Marsala sauce as good as that. So much flavor, very savory. Altogether, the flavors worked together and worked perfectly. If only I wasn't an hour away, I would come here more often. I hope to be here again someday!

I showed up around 7pm and I thought it might have been closed because no one was here. But they were open. I ordered a Bauer burger with the house seasoned fries. They asked how I'd like the egg cooked and the burger cooked: I asked for medium for both. Given how dead the place was, it did take a minute to get my food. The burger was ok, not worth $21. The bun fell apart very quickly which is a bit of a cardinal sin in the burger game. The bacon on the burger was not bacon strips but a bit of bacon crumble. The patty was a bit overcooked so it was dry and it wasn't seasoned so it was bland. The egg was cooked perfectly, but the aioli and the egg yolk with a disintegrated bun made for a huge mess. The fries were interesting. The house seasoned fries are not salted. So the fries were almost sweet due to the spices, but no salt. And they do not have regular table ketchup or malt vinegar. I did ask for some ketchup and they brought me their house ketchup. While not like a classic ketchup, it was actually quite good. Oh, be aware. They will charge you a 4% fee when they bring you the check (what would have happened if I'd paid with cash?). I do not see anywhere on the menu where they say their is a payment fee so that is a pretty shady business practice. Overall: meh.
