Maxi's Bar at the DoubleTree -- The Team That Keeps Me Coming Back Let me tell you something about this place: You do not just walk into Maxi's for a drink.....you walk into a scene. Not the dramatic kind... the good kind. The kind where everyone is doing their own thing, the energy is light, and somehow the universe decides to let you breathe a little easier. Dino Dino is the kind of guy who can greet you without saying a word. You walk in, he looks up, gives you that "I see you" nod, and suddenly the whole day feels better. Steady hands, steady presence, and the type of human you're just glad exists in the world. If there was a Hall of Fame for good dudes quietly making the world nicer, Dino is already in it. Teresa Teresa is a whole mood. A whole vibe. A whole comedy sketch without trying. She will be pouring a drink, ask out loud "Single?!" and somehow you will look around the room like the universe is sending you a message, only to find out she was talking to you the whole time. Her smile is genuine, her timing is perfect, and she makes you feel like you just handed her the winning lottery numbers by simply answering a question honestly. She is the secret sauce of Maxi's, bright, sharp, and the kind of person who makes a quiet night fun. Ron (...yes, Ron) Now listen.... you have not lived until you have watched Ron run this place like he owns shares in time itself. He is direct. Efficient. Sometimes unintentionally hilarious. And absolutely part of the charm. Ron will tell you exactly what is what with the energy of a man who has already worked three shifts today. But here is the thing: he cares. He hustles. He keeps everything moving. And you cannot help but respect the guy. He' is the engine behind the bar, whether he admits it or not. The Room Soft lighting. Clean counters. A bar that feels like neutral ground, a place where the day calms down, the conversations soften, and the flowers (yes, the bouquet on the table) somehow match the mood perfectly. It is the kind of spot where you can sit with a beer and lime, watch the world do its thing, and know you are exactly where you are supposed to be. Final Word Maxi's is more than a hotel bar.... it's a little pocket of peace with a staff that makes it feel like home. Dino keeps it cool, Teresa brings the spark, and Ron... well, Ron makes sure the ship sails whether the rest of us know the route or not. Five stars. Easy. Wish I could give them six. I'll be back....and they already know it.

Braised short ribs. Tender, and fell apart with fork.

Food was great. Large portions. Lamb popsicles and braised short ribs ,garlic mashed and asparagus. Everything tasted great and cooked to perfection.

This is one of the best stand alone hotel restaurants I've been to. The restaurant was clean and each table had fresh flowers on them. The service was exceptional and that was solely because of our waiter - Dino! Let me tell ya growing up in vegas where customer service is everything Dino was one of the best waiters I've ever had. He was affable and went above and beyond to provide a great dinning experience for my wife and I. Side note to manager - give this guy a raise or promotion. Ok...to the food. I ordered the short rib panini and was blown away by the flavor, freshness and tenderness of the meat. Easily one of the best sandwiches I've had. My wife got some buffalo wings and side Caesar salad which were also great. The wings were perfectly tossed in buffalo sauce and had a nice crunch on them. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone staying at the double tree or anyone visiting Modesto. Bravo!

Food was good, service was friendly. Was pretty empty when we went. Wasn't bad at all, I'd go back to give it another try.

Maxi's is located inside the Doubletree Hotel. So to start the day I came here for breakfast. Once you enter you are greeted and seated immediately as they must cater to business travelers that have limited time. As most hotels offer a buffet I always stay clear and order off the menu. Two reasons I don't need the extra calories of having everything on a buffet. Also I want it freshly made for me and just to order what I want. Cost wise it is usually less but it isn't the sole driver for my decision here. I order a cappuccino and it arrives quickly. For my breakfast I have eggs sunny side up. My bread choices did not include my favorite rye bread so I got sour dough figuring it is usually a good choice in San Francisco and geographically close enough. Breakfast came out quickly and was served just as fast. I was surprised to learn from the waitress that they are open all day. Which is great to have thst option on the hotel as it is convenient. When it was time to settle up the check I printed and signed my name. Since I did not use my middle name my server checked my ID. Now I am all for safety but logically speaking who would steal my identity and get my room number correct as well as my name and signature but for a middle name check. Whatever sad times we are living in and Modesto must have alot of criminals coming through. Service and food were good as well as the convenience of being on site where I was stayimg. The next day I just wanted to leave Modesto quickly so I skipped breakfast and checked out of the hotel instead.

Nothing like a glass of wine after a long day!!!

I stayed at the hotel last night and had dinner and breakfast this morning. Salmon was excellent and eggs Benedict pretty good. I'm not normally a bread eater, but those poppyseed sourdough rolls were bomb! Food is presented nicely and tasty. Ambience and customer service also very good. Nice place for a romantic dinner or by yourself. Will come again when back in town in December.

Very tender and well seasoned Braised Shortribs and a glass of Zin. Freshly baked bread with butter is a bonus. The staff was very friendly.

Pork chop with risotto, brussel sprouts, and endive.

I been wanting to try this place for a long time. I can't believe it took me this long to try them out. I was very pleased from start to finish. The service was excellent, the food was amazing and I was ultra impressed with the waitress explaining we can get gravy made with no pork and also for next time to ask for our home fried potatoes to also be cooked in non pork fat. ( I told her We don't eat pork ) It is so hard to find a place that offers no pork in their gravy. They went the extra mile to make us special non pork gravy on the spot, amazing. Also they fried our home fried potatoes in non pork oil, thats the extra extra mile of care and service and attending to a customers needs, I was completely satisfied. I cant wait to try more of the menu. Everything we ordered was good. The cinnamon bun was so good, I would go there just for that alone, yummy and fresh and moist and soft and so much frosting and yes I said and alot, AND? Haha Pro tip: if you dont eat pork ask for them to cook your potatoes in non pork oil and if you want gravy ask them to make non pork gravy. You have to mention it to your server, dont forget. Now go & enjoy, you can thank me later. Make reservations if possible or go on a slow day, the weekends are packed but worth the wait. They have alot of seating inside.

My friend from Modesto told me about this spot, and I immediately wanted to try it. I actually planned my drive around this pit stop, which was just a short detour off the 99. I ordered a biscuit with fried eggs and dear Lord, that biscuit was amazing, and so was the jam! The fried eggs were cooked perfectly and especially delicious with the hot sauces they had to offer. My brother got an egg sandwich on a brioche bun and he still can't stop talking about how good it was. He was particularly impressed with the brioche bun. We also got the blueberry french toast to go, which I didn't anticipate traveling very well, but it did and holy shit, it was fan-freaking-tastic when I ate it that evening. I can't even fathom how incredible it must be if eaten fresh. This place was so cute inside and clearly had an intentional aesthetic direction. There was a cute outdoor seating area in the front where I could have my dog with me, which is a huge plus. The service was top-notch and the food was ready lickety-split. The staff were very friendly, helpful, and attentive. I HIGHLY recommend this spot!!!

The food was just your typical diner type, greasy spoon kind of place. I got an egg white omelette with ham (looked like cut up pieces of thin sliced deli meat) and asked that fresh potatoes be boiled in water or steamed in water due to food allergy. What I got was fried potatoes. When I questioned the server he just said that's how they come. Do they not have raw potatoes in the back they could have boiled for me?? The taste of the omelette was meh and I only ate 4 bites. I obviously didn't eat the potatoes. The English Muffin felt oily, like someone touched it with greasy hands. I had asked for it to be dry and with no butter. So basically I didn't eat any of my food and will not be back (this was my third time here and none of the other experiences were any better.) Such a shame because it is only 5-minutes from my house. My dad ordered the chicken fried steak and my mom got the taco salad and both of their meals were inedible too. The food here is just BAD. I told the server I didn't like my food and he didn't even answer me. He took away three plates of uneaten food and no one asked if there was an issue and no manager bothered to come over to even talk to us or try and make it right. What a HUGE waste of money. Don't bother eating here...so many other places to eat that are so much better. This place was packed and no real waiting area...everyone just squished together. This is a hustling and bustling place, so if you are looking for a quiet spot, at least don't go when we did. Best part of this place is their wall for taking pictures. I think they care more about making things look IG worthy, than the quality of the product they are serving.

Here, you order your food, grab a number, and find your own seat for the food to be brought out to you. We sat at a table outside to decide what to order. There were no menus available so we just had to search for it online before heading inside to order. Despite being third in line from the register, we had an extremely long wait to order. There was only one person running the register who also had to make the drinks, meaning the service incredibly slow. We wanted to order the five taco platter, garlic fries, chicken Caesar salad, and mimosa pitcher. Sadly, we were only able to get the pitcher and salad. The cashier told us "sorry, we aren't doing fries right now." Not doing fries? Every plate in the vicinity had fries on them. She said that because it was brunch hour, only food on the brunch menu could be ordered. We looked at the brunch menu again and literally saw garlic fries as an option as a side for the burgers/sandwiches. No where did it specify that you can't order off the other menu and both were available online. What bothered us about this is that we placed this order at around 1:50pm, and brunch ended at 2:00pm. I understand that we are not entitled to things on the lunch menu during brunch-time for items like the tacos, but considering the menu swap was less than 10 minutes away and they were quite literally were "doing fries" at the time, it didn't make much sense to us. The only food that we ended up ordering was the Chicken Caesar Salad. This one dish took a super long time to receive. By the time it was brought out, the three of us nearly finished the Mimosa pitcher. The waitress noticed we had no silverware and said she would go grab us some. Because of how the service had been going thus far, we placed a bet on whether or not the waitress would come back with the silverware. Surprise, surprise. She didn't. We had to go inside later and search for silverware ourselves. We weren't even able to get sharing plates which was upsetting since the waitress asked us if we would be sharing the salad. The salad itself looked delicious, but was bland. The dressing was missing that zing and zest that a Caesar dressing typically has. I do appreciate that is was a chopped salad, had avocado, and seasoned croutons. It is just unfortunate that it was lacking any flavor at all. The food prices are quite affordable for the quantity of food you receive though. This experience was disappointing because I was so optimistic about the place. The menu looked good, it had fun and casual vibes and a cool crowd of people. If Commonwealth worked towards better service practices, it would have been a more positive experience.

My partner ordered the Huevos Rancheros, and wow--rich, flavorful, and with just the right kick. The ranchero sauce was warm and bold, layered over perfectly cooked eggs and soft tortillas. Beans and salsa rounded it out with heart and spice. I went classic: two eggs over easy, bacon, and hashbrowns. Everything hit the mark. The eggs were runny and golden, the bacon had that ideal crisp-with-chew balance, and the hashbrowns had a crispy outer layer that gave way to soft, savory insides. Simple, but done right. Service was kind and easygoing--the perfect pace for a morning meal. Plenty of space inside, and the layout somehow makes it feel both open and cozy at the same time. This place feels like a best-kept secret: part brunch lounge, part evening hotspot. We'll absolutely be back. Might just become our go-to.

We called multiple times to make sure we had the correct time and nobody answered. Disappointed as this place looked really good.
