Modesto~This little cafe is absolutely adorable! She has what looks like local art on all the walls, along with some teas & such to purchase. Give yourself some "time" because she makes her items to order. We were a bit tight on time so we had to basically shove our food in and go. My friend and I had two different entrée and two different drinks so we could each try the other's. I had the "Lucid Dream" with an interesting combo of mugwort, blue lotus, blackberries & sage. My friend had the "Kindred Spirit" with strawberry, aloe, & nettle. They were good, but we both agreed that we would've loved a bit more flavorful & sweeter drink. For one entree we had the Harvest salad. It was yummy but needed more sweet potatoes and less kale. The kale was overpowering the other goodies. Our other entree was the Tofu bowl. Yummy as well, but definitely needed the extra lemon tahini dressing with it. Overall this is a great little cafe, especially designed for dairy & gluten free meals. I had my baby daughter's Fairy First Birthday Tea Party with her Aunties this past Saturday afternoon at the cafe. I reserved a room. Candace set up a long table with flowers, decorations, and tea cups. She also included food and drinks. We had an iced sage tea and water provided. For snacks we had an appetizer of olives, hummus with bread and carrots for dipping, a vegan sort of caprese skewer, and a kale salad. We also had 3 variations of flatbread. One was spicy sweet, one was a margarita, and one was a curry flavor; all vegan. We ordered extras from the front as needed. A couple people ordered smoothies, coffee, etc. I forgot to mention the desserts in my first review and I can't believe I did. I love Niccol's vegan treats I've had quite a few things of hers; brownies, cinnamon roll, rice crispy treat, lemon loaf with strawberry sauce, all the things. All delicious, all carefully and intentionally made. We had an absolute blast. 10/10. Will most likely plan another get together there before too long. High recommend the sweet and spicy flatbread. read more

Herbal mocktail with fresh fruit and natural sugars, not too sweet, the kind of drink you actually feel good about ordering. What a great and interesting new addition to Modesto! Food and drink with a touch of herbalism and kitchen witchery. I tried one of the elixirs (I'm not actually sure which one, as I just asked Candi to make me one and forgot to ask her what it was), the sacred toast (YUM!), a golden brew, and a yogurt parfait. Had an absolutely delightful experience today at The Alchemist Cafe! My husband and I stopped in on a whim and the vibe was serene and the food was delicious. We ordered the Margarita flatbread, roasted carrots and Caesar salad and everything was 10/10. We also got the lemonade and the Emerald Aura elixir- highly recommend!! This was the WORST experience ive ever had with a coffee shop. We ordered matcha with coconut milk. First off, it was ordered hot, and came cold. And then it came like this (see picture). We called and spoke to the OWNER Candace (she was very proud to state that she made our drink). And she mentioned they received new organic canned milk, said with pride. You do NOT use canned store bought milk for drinks. She saw the chunks and still decided to send it over to us, shamelessly. It's obvious all of the positive reviews are fake. Not to mention there was NO apology, which is all we were looking for. Being that we are two doctors working on patients all day, we didn't want to get ill in the middle of the work day drinking this hazard. DO NOT GO HERE. read more

The owner is super nice, friendly, and focuses her business on holistic healthy eating. I assumed this café would offer soy milk because it is high in protein and a great alternative to dairy. Amazing we have this up and coming gem in Modesto as an option to traditional bars. I had the traditional kava drink and my friend the Gypsy rose (eat the flower , as well as the brie and fig toast. So tasty! But not only that, if you haven't tried kava before and are looking for a non-alc option to relax and unwind, I highly recommend the kava experience at The Alchemist Cafe.. It had us feeling good and joyful and we went "food hopping around town" after imbibing of this wonderful pacific island drink. We noticed how this buzz felt different in a good way compared to alcohol and enjoyed it immensely. We had great conversation, laughter, and I am still feeling the positive effect the next day! So amazing. I wish I could go back every day. The most amazing service from the most amazing staff- I've only been here twice, but I've felt so welcome both times. This adorable converted house on a quiet street is so welcoming! If you love antique trays, teapots, and eclectic colorful decor, you will feel right at home. The menu is quite varied. I enjoyed the Harvest Salad, hummus and plantain chips. Plus the refreshing blackberry lavender lemonade! My 7 year friend was delighted with all the games and puzzles in the front closet. I've had mushroom coffees before, and they were gross tasting. The Fierce Focus at Alchemist is a huge exception. Absolutely delicious and effective.
