This coffee shop is so cute!! Attached to a remodeled hotel so parking is limited. The coffee shop it's self is cozy, a few small tables around and outdoor seating when it's not raining. The matcha was not good but their seasonal toffee coffee was delicious, not too sweet. I tried it both iced and hot and liked them both ways. The service was quick and efficient. I will say to get here early if you want some of their pastries since the ones I wanted were sold out. Tried the Cardamom ice latte, it was pretty good but the chocolate croissant was amazing!!!!! They have a beautiful, modern, welcoming atmosphere. However girl behind the counter didn't seem thrilled to be there. She had a bad attitude, we said hi and she didn't say hi or give us some sort of welcoming. Anyways, we ordered our drinks then I asked about a croissant that seemed different than the others and she kind of gave me attitude and said "it's chocolate" when it clearly had other toppings then said "oh" and pointed at the menu irritated. This place is so cute! I had heard about it from a friend, and decided to drop in while passing through Salida. There doesn't seem to be a ton of parking inside the gate, but cars were starting to park on the shoulder of the road out front. There's a smaller indoor seating area where you order that has some little tables and cozy chairs to sit and chat. Very clean, cute vibe. I ordered a honey lavender latte (decaf) and ordered one of their sandwiches. I actually tried to order a wrap first but they were sold out so this place must be popular! We were driving through Modesto area and in need of some coffee and I am SO GLAD we decided to stop here. Not only were the lattes (honey lavender, toffee crunch) we ordered amazing, but the three pastries (morning bun, spinach cheese turnover, and chocolate muffin) we tried were incredible and impressive. The baristas greeted me and it is super cute inside. The most important part, however, is the drink I had. I wish I could've ordered like 3 drinks. I ended up getting the strawberry masala chai... when I tell you, this was SO GOOD. It was different than a traditional chai, with more citrusy notes to it. I had been wanting to try this little cafe since it opened and I finally got the chance to try it yesterday. I ordered a cookie butter latte and a bagel with cream cheese, tomato, micro greens, and avocado. It was $18. Pretty pricey if you ask me, but it's OK if the food/ drink is good. I was disappointed in the food because my bagel was so hard- it tasted old. I ate most of it because I was so hungry but I had to saw through the bagel with a knife to cut it. The cookie butter latte unfortunately tasted nothing like cookie butter. It wasn't bad, but it just tasted like a plain latte with a cookie thrown on top. There was no cookie butter flavor to the actual coffee itself at all. On a more positive note, the cafe itself was really cute inside and very aesthetically pleasing. The bathroom inside the cafe was also very cute and clean. The outside area of the cafe was nice as well. They had some nice looking pastries in the display case, but I didn't order any so I can't comment on their taste. Overall, I don't think I would return- the coffee just didn't wow me like I hoped. You can really tell everything here is thoughtfully prepared and fresh. The service truly stands out. Honey Lavender Latte , good. You can taste the honey in it and it's not too sweet . The chocolate muffin was delicious. Didnt feel too heavy like muffins usually are . It was more like a fluffy brownie . Service - everyone was nice . Strange that my muffin was handed to me over five minutes later from when I got my drink when it's really just coming out of the pastry case . But they were very kind. Ambience- it's put together nicely . The inside is well done but I feel they need to be better at cleaning the tables off between customers . The outside area is exactly what our area needed . Such a great place to sit and enjoy a coffee with friends. Maybe I was not in the mood, maybe I'm too old . There was a DJ outside and cool . But it felt out of place ,it was too loud for a place to sit and relax and chat with friends. If It was open in the evening I would understand but not for breakfast coffee . Finally made it out to Matriarch Cafe a few weeks ago. It's attached to a motel that's been remodeled. When you first pull in to the parking lot you can tell they put a lot of work and care into transforming the property into something wonderful for their guests. The moment you walk in, you're hit with a heat wave. Since it's a small space the heat gets trapped inside even though they had a big sliding door open to the beautiful courtyard. They had a really nice espresso machine but since it was late in the day I chose not to have coffee. But they have a lot of other drinks available if you need something other than coffee. There's a good assortment of baked goods, and breakfast sandwiches. They even have a full pizza on the menu. Since it was late in the day and we hadn't eaten, my boyfriend ordered the pizza and it came out really quickly! However, it was cold in the middle. It's like it came from the freezer, they forgot to cook it all the way, and then put some arugula on it. So we were kind of disappointed. Since it's not safe to eat partially heated food, we didn't end up eating it. If I go again, I'll try one of their baked goods. I hope they get the reheating temperatures figured out, it's such a nice spot and we love to support small businesses! read more

It's a small cute place that has outdoor seating and sits on the premise of the hotel! This last time I tried their Grinch matcha off the seasonal menu and their new chorizo breakfast sandwich. Sooo good!
