The only thing decent here is the breakfast menu and that is screwed up by cut corners and no one checking the quality of the food they're serving. I live local and I keep trying to like this place but each time I'm disappointed. Then you add in that this place is filthy every time I'm in there. They need to hire professional cleaners to scrub the bathrooms thoroughly, dust blinds and light fixtures. They need to vacuum and shampoo the rugs. Wipe down the furniture from top to bottom. It's old but with proper scrubbing, would clean up. I sent my food back, and it wasn't remedied. I opted for cold eggs over another waitress spitting in my food. I thought this because the gal didn't seem to be able to handle me criticizing the food. I asked her for hot sauce to help me choke down my cold eggs. She said sure and ran off to never return (I'm assuming to punish me for not silently taking the bad service). I flagged someone else down to get it. When I finished. My waitress said she would like to offer me 10% off for my trouble. I said thank you. When the bill came, there wasn't a discount and I was charged incorrectly. This upset me. I paid my bill and tipped 15% anyway. I am so disappointed and want to tell everyone out there, to go to Denny's instead. At least it's clean and your food will be cooked to order. This mom and pop place isn't worth it. No matter how badly I want to support local business.

This visit happened to fall on Mother's Day weekend. We had reservations for both Saturday and Sunday, but we stopped in on Saturday to cancel that day's reservation since we'd already eaten lunch and knew we wouldn't be hungry by dinnertime. On Sunday, when we checked in for our reservation, I was impressed -- the hostess remembered us by name, which says a lot considering how many guests come through the restaurant. We were seated, and soon after we were greeted by Eleanor, our server. She was warm, attentive, and never made us feel pressured, which was a huge improvement from a previous visit. She answered every question I had, including how they cook a medium‑rare steak (every chef has their own interpretation, lol). She also gave an honest answer when I asked whether the vegetables used at dinner come from their greenhouse. The service felt genuine, and the food was excellent -- a much better experience than my last review. This visit was absolutely worth the return. Kudos to Eleanor and the Kitchen at The Mission.

We called about 20 mins in advance on our way from Casa de Fruta (where I could eat nothing). We'd never been there, always stopping for a pit-stop at Pea Soup Anderson's when going through that area. So first of all, the hotel grounds are beautiful, totally unexpected in this middle of nowhere hotel. The outdoor dining area for the restaurant is gorgeous and relaxing. The staff aware all polite and helpful. I had to wait a bit longer than expected but I grabbed the pizzas and took them to the car and was first of all shocked at how beautiful the pizza was. I got the California veggie pizza without mushrooms and added pepperoni, with gluten free crust. My husband got the same but not gluten free. This was one of the best gluten free pizzas I've EVER had. Everything as clearly freshly made. Amazing. Sad it's so far away from where I live! On the way out I checked out prices for the hotel...about 200 bucks a night. Totally reasonable. We'll be back here next time we're heading through this area!

They have yummy pastries on display but the breakfast menu has tons of savory options. We ordered H Street Block which is a blueberry french toast casserole. It was the perfect size. It looks small, but it was very filling and just enough to get my day started. It's a bit pricey for the size but since that was the portion I wanted, I wasn't too disappointed. One of the workers mentioned they do have kids menu options, but they didn't have the printed kids menus available, so if you don't see them, just ask when you are ordering. The Champions Breakfast platter was a great choice for our kids to share. It was one of the better fruit bowls I've seen, with a variety of fresh berries and oranges. The place is pretty small inside, but we were there on a Thursday morning so it was no issue finding a parking spot or a table to sit. I appreciate how kid friendly they are, even bringing kid size water cups with lids, and there are even some children's books on the shelf in the back. I didn't think to order the hollandaise on the side so my bread was totally soggy. The bacon was extremely salty. I'm not sure what brand it was but it was not good to me. I couldn't pick it up to eat it because I was driving. It was already soggy and wet to begin with, not the restaurants fault but I would say I would not order that for a togo order. It was not easy to eat, very messy and again, I didn't care for the bacon.

I've never booked a room here, but we would meet up with our friends from Madera at this hotel since their place is too far for me to drive. Yesterday, I discovered a really cool greenhouse and a charming wine museum I had never seen before. There's no charge to enter the wine room, but you need a key card from the lobby to access it. Additionally, there's a cute, small pet park for furry friends. The hotel also features a pond filled with colorful koi fish and another pond with waterfalls. We spotted an adorable turtle just hanging out with some fake ducks. There are a couple of areas with fire pits, and there's even a rose garden. I found a spot where you can play bocce and horseshoes. The courtyard is definitely fun to explore, and the restaurant's view is fantastic. I also learned about a bar called The Lounge. I tried the food at the Kitchen for breakfast and lunch yesterday. The service was slow on both occasions. We had to wait for ten minutes because the staff member at the desk said the server would return by then. I asked if they could seat us while we waited for her break to finish, but we decided to stay anyway. Regardless, the food was excellent both times, so the restaurant kicks ass even though the service doesn't. There are many places to visit outside the hotel. The Korean Memorial is nearby, but we skipped it yesterday. Instead, we discovered a few parks with trails that offer beautiful views of the hills and the San Luis Reservoir. We also visited the Romero Overlook Visitors Center, where you can learn about the water system and the area's history. I'm sure there are more things to do in the area, but that was all we had time for during our adventure yesterday.

We recently visited the Grand Island Mansion for their Sunday brunch and came away very impressed…read moreoverall. If Yelp allowed half-stars, this would probably land at a 4.5/5 for us. The atmosphere is really the standout feature here. The mansion itself is stunning, elegant without feeling stuffy, with ornate architecture, sweeping staircases, fireplaces, formal dining rooms, outdoor seating areas, and beautifully maintained grounds. It feels somewhere between a historic estate and a wedding venue, which makes brunch feel more like an event than just a meal. There were several seating areas throughout the mansion, and part of the fun was simply walking around and taking in the property. The brunch buffet was genuinely elevated compared to a typical hotel-style brunch. There was a wide variety of offerings and everything we tried was very good. The spread included prime rib, eggs Benedict, roasted vegetables, salads, French toast, assorted side dishes, rolls, scones, and an impressive dessert table with mousses, pastries, chocolate-covered strawberries, and other desserts that looked almost too polished to eat. The buffet struck a nice balance between breakfast and lunch options without feeling repetitive. Service was also strong. Since it's buffet-style, the staff isn't taking entrée orders, but the waitstaff did a very good job keeping drinks filled, bringing silverware, answering questions, and making guests feel comfortable. Mimosas, orange juice, and water were included with the flat brunch price, which helped the experience feel more complete and relaxed rather than transactional. The main reason this stops short of a full 5 stars is that the experience feels slightly more "special occasion venue" than fine dining destination, if that distinction makes sense. But for a Sunday brunch outing, especially with family, celebrations, or out-of-town guests, it's absolutely worth experiencing at least once. A very memorable brunch in a truly unique setting.
