The bill should have been for $36.95 with tax 39.72. The discount was the bs customer service that Mil's offers regulars.

They should fire their cook! Cut corners = big loss. They don't cook anything exactly as you order it. The only thing decent here is the breakfast menu and that is screwed up by cut corners and no one checking the quality of the food they're serving. I live local and I keep trying to like this place but each time I'm disappointed. Then you add in that this place is filthy every time I'm in there. They need to hire professional cleaners to scrub the bathrooms thoroughly, dust blinds and light fixtures. They need to vacuum and shampoo the rugs. Wipe down the furniture from top to bottom. It's old but with proper scrubbing, would clean up. I sent my food back, and it wasn't remedied. I opted for cold eggs over another waitress spitting in my food. I thought this because the gal didn't seem to be able to handle me criticizing the food. I asked her for hot sauce to help me choke down my cold eggs. She said sure and ran off to never return (I'm assuming to punish me for not silently taking the bad service). I flagged someone else down to get it. When I finished. My waitress said she would like to offer me 10% off for my trouble. I said thank you. When the bill came, there wasn't a discount and I was charged incorrectly. This upset me. I paid my bill and tipped 15% anyway. I am so disappointed and want to tell everyone out there, to go to Denny's instead. At least it's clean and your food will be cooked to order. This mom and pop place isn't worth it. No matter how badly I want to support local business.

Even though Yelp says it opens at 10, but actually it opens up at 7am !! It's good every time I go there but the only thing if I had a choice, I wish that they had alternative meats like turkey or chicken meat since I do not eat pork I have to get a steak breakfast.

A hidden gem. Found this spot during my travel done the I5 freeway. Never even heard of Peterson, Ca. But this little cafe is awesome. Ordered the Ortega chili burger protein style with burger taco soup and salad... super delicious

The other location in Buellton closed a while ago so I think this maybe the only one left. Could be the original but I'm not sure. Just off the 5 heading north. We stopped by for a quick bite before heading back on the road. Mid week which wasn't that busy. It's been so long ago that I didn't remember what the inside looked like. As we had our little pup with us, they were able to accommodate us. There's three entrance from the front area. Main being the one that leads you to the restaurant. Another is from the gift shop side and we also noticed people coming in from the side of the bar. One side is the restaurant which we looked at but ended up at the bar section. Which happened to be happy hour happening. Didn't know they had that to offer. Bar area was pretty quiet when we were there but it did pick up. There's also patio seating right outside there. Main menu pretty much has as everything but we just opted for some happy hour bites for now. Drink special was offered both for draft and bottle as well as cocktails and wine. Food menu, they were limited on that but the usual were offered. Both cup or bowl of the famous soup was available. Half order of the potatoes skin, onion rings and wings were available as well as the quesadillas. Soup was decent but could have been hotter. Onion rings, and the wings were ok. Good nothing major to rave about. Both served with ranch sauce. I also picked up some dessert from the counter which looked great. Happy hour items were decent for the price. The service for the whole place was great. All The staff and waitress were very friendly and helpful. Our waitress who was also the bartender was a major doll. She was very sweet. As well as all the ladies on the restaurant side. Very accommodating to us. Overall, it was a cute stop off for a quick bite. Cute gift shop that's worth a wandering around. Plenty of parking available.

In reality, there are/were only two: the original location (and now closed since 2024) in Buellton and this location in Santa Nella. It turned out that we needed to take a break and gas up around lunchtime very close by, so decided to stop in for lunch. It ended up being OK. This second location has been open since 1976 and is located in a huge building with tons of seating and a large retail space. It has a separate downstairs dining room (available if your party is large), a large bar in the back (open during lunch though only one person was in there), and an upstairs not accessible during lunchtime. We came at exactly 11:00 and they had begun serving lunch. We were led to our seats, and someone came by with water. There seemed to be some confusion on who was supposed to serve us, and we were ignored for a while, even as other folks were being seated. Finally, a waitress came back (guessing she wasn't our original one, but had to pivot) and took our order. Not particularly friendly in the beginning (ended up being talkative at the end as my wife had struck up a conversation), but got our order correct. The food came out soon after, and it was served all together and was still warm when we got them. My wife and I have been to the Andersen's in Buellton and had slightly different memories of how good the split pea soup was. We ordered a cup ($6.99), and didn't even have to tell the waitress what kind of soup we wanted. The soup was good for the first couple spoonful, but didn't end up finishing it; glad we ordered a small cup. My wife and her mom split a Teriyaki Chicken dinner ($21.50) and they liked it: nothing fancy, just one chicken breast grilled and topped with bottled teriyaki sauce and a pineapple slice. I got the Danish Style Meatloaf ($21.99, was planning to share with my wife) and it seemed well made with generous portions, but neither of us liked it (the pork/beef mixture with breadcrumbs was very finely ground and reminded me of a mealy German sausage without the casing). Both the soup and meatloaf would have been good as small samples from a buffet while grazing, but are difficult as a main course for our taste. Both plates came with a from-frozen vegetable medley (broccoli, carrots, and zucchini), along with a rice pilaf for the chicken plate. We did buy some trinkets at the gift shop. I wanted to get a Danish, but ended up sharing a Cinnamon Crisp, a giant cookie covered in cinnamon sugar. It was really good, definitely worth the $5.50 price.

The food was just your typical diner type, greasy spoon kind of place. I got an egg white omelette with ham (looked like cut up pieces of thin sliced deli meat) and asked that fresh potatoes be boiled in water or steamed in water due to food allergy. What I got was fried potatoes. When I questioned the server he just said that's how they come. Do they not have raw potatoes in the back they could have boiled for me?? The taste of the omelette was meh and I only ate 4 bites. I obviously didn't eat the potatoes. The English Muffin felt oily, like someone touched it with greasy hands. I had asked for it to be dry and with no butter. So basically I didn't eat any of my food and will not be back (this was my third time here and none of the other experiences were any better.) Such a shame because it is only 5-minutes from my house. My dad ordered the chicken fried steak and my mom got the taco salad and both of their meals were inedible too. The food here is just BAD. I told the server I didn't like my food and he didn't even answer me. He took away three plates of uneaten food and no one asked if there was an issue and no manager bothered to come over to even talk to us or try and make it right. What a HUGE waste of money. Don't bother eating here...so many other places to eat that are so much better. This place was packed and no real waiting area...everyone just squished together. This is a hustling and bustling place, so if you are looking for a quiet spot, at least don't go when we did. Best part of this place is their wall for taking pictures. I think they care more about making things look IG worthy, than the quality of the product they are serving.

My friend from Modesto told me about this spot, and I immediately wanted to try it. I actually planned my drive around this pit stop, which was just a short detour off the 99. My brother got an egg sandwich on a brioche bun and he still can't stop talking about how good it was. He was particularly impressed with the brioche bun. We also got the blueberry french toast to go, which I didn't anticipate traveling very well, but it did and holy shit, it was fan-freaking-tastic when I ate it that evening. I can't even fathom how incredible it must be if eaten fresh. This place was so cute inside and clearly had an intentional aesthetic direction. After discovering Lucille several years ago, I will now willingly take rides far from home, although the fares sometimes dry up in the Central Valley. I have been to Lucille twice by myself. I brought my Godmother once. I recommend Lucille to everyone who I drive when they tell me that they live in or near Modesto. Today I brought my boyfriend and my dog, who lives in the Santa Cruz Mountains. It was Saturday, super crowded and my dog was being super reactive with another dog across the way. It was super embarrassing and, although I am sure that it stressed out the staff, they were calm, kind and attentive. I was stressed and shrill, my dog was being a grade-A A-hole. I'm sorry Lucille! The beet salad at this place features fresh mint and I always get it. The chocolate cookie with flaky malden salt is very yummy. Their house coffee is very high quality and doesn't taste gross and burned. I didn't love my soup today. The bar was set pretty high with the carrot soup I had another time. Honestly, it was a small detail and this place is so much better than 90% of restaurants. They sent me another chocolate cookie. That was never necessary. I love you Lucille! Thanks for the extra care and the extra cookie! You really deserve a larger building because you are awesome!

I've been stalling on doing a review because I felt that the day that we went must've been an odd day off or when the regular cook wasn't there. When we arrived, there was only one other couple at the restaurants and only a couple came during the time that we were there. It was definitely a slow day or time. Since we were the only folks there ordering I asked for my hashbrowns to be crispy, and the Hubbs asked for no eggs and the server offered potatoes, which was very nice to offer the swap. Unfortunately, rather than just my hashbrowns being crispy, my eggs were well overdone as well as my pancakes. This left my pancakes, dry and flat rather than moist and fluffy and my eggs rubbery. I asked for salsa to help the overcooked eggs out, but they were still not good. The Hubbs enjoyed his breakfast, but said his gravy had no sausage flavor and were bland. He added pepper and ended up also sprinkling some hot sauce on them. Coffee is Farmers Brothers and tasted more like hot water with a hint of coffee flavor. I feel bad giving this review because the folks there were extremely nice and accommodating with our special requests. Adj: Beautiful and Memorable…read more We attended a wedding here and it was a beautiful event. The grounds are so nicely landscaped and maintained and there really is a "mansion" feel to this place bc it is a mansion! It's amazing that that such a historical and fancy place is only 25 miles south of Sacramento in Walnut Grove in the Delta. Apparently, the Grand Island Mansion is the biggest private estate in NorCal. It was built in 1920 by Louis Myers, an orchard farmer, along with his wife Henrietta. They broke ground on 865-acre in 1917, so it took about 3 years to build. The Mansion has 58 rooms, all fancy and opulent, and was designed as a classic Italian Renaissance villa by renowned San Francisco architect J.W. Dolliver and is 4-story tall with 24,000-square-foot of space! In the roaring 20s, high society gathered here for gatherings and high-end wining & dining, and guests were all wealthy and famous local and even national figures to include Greta Garbo, Erle Stanley Gardner, and former President Franklin D. Roosevelt and President Ronald Reagan! During the Great Depression in the 1930s, the Myers family's fortunes also diminished a lot, so they had to sell off their orchards and sadly, the mansion as well. Since the Mansion changed hands several times, it was not kept up in the 1930s-40s. Thankfully, a local restauranteur, Frank Perese bought it in 1950 and put in a commercial kitchen to try to revive the Mansion to make it a destination for fine dining. Then from the 1970s, the Mansion became a special events venue, and weddings were hosted here beginning around 1980. In recent years, it has evolved into a luxurious location for weddings and events with a 14-seat private theater added, Italian gardens nicely maintained, and original artwork and lavish hotel rooms, all of which are really well kept to preserve this historical property and to keep it as a premier wedding and special occasions celebration destination. We really enjoyed attending our friends' wedding here and taking in all the sights and sounds of this grand mansion and may have to come back for brunch or tea in the future.
