I had really high hopes for this place. The advertisements built up an elevated product and experience and that is what I was hoping for. While the place is very nice to look at, the prices are high compared to other coffee shops, and the coffee was average. I had an iced toffee drink and it was okay, but I did need to add sweetener. We were driving through Modesto area and in need of some coffee and I am SO GLAD we decided to stop here. Not only were the lattes (honey lavender, toffee crunch) we ordered amazing, but the three pastries (morning bun, spinach cheese turnover, and chocolate muffin) we tried were incredible and impressive. And if that wasn't enough to convince you, the ambiance indoors and in the outdoor area they have is just wonderful! I had been wanting to try this little cafe since it opened and I finally got the chance to try it yesterday. I ordered a cookie butter latte and a bagel with cream cheese, tomato, micro greens, and avocado. It was $18. Pretty pricey if you ask me, but it's OK if the food/ drink is good. I was disappointed in the food because my bagel was so hard- it tasted old. I ate most of it because I was so hungry but I had to saw through the bagel with a knife to cut it. The cookie butter latte unfortunately tasted nothing like cookie butter. It wasn't bad, but it just tasted like a plain latte with a cookie thrown on top. There was no cookie butter flavor to the actual coffee itself at all. On a more positive note, the cafe itself was really cute inside and very aesthetically pleasing. The bathroom inside the cafe was also very cute and clean. The outside area of the cafe was nice as well. They had some nice looking pastries in the display case, but I didn't order any so I can't comment on their taste. Overall, I don't think I would return- the coffee just didn't wow me like I hoped. I do agree with some other reviews that the staff seem under trained , I actually think this place has great potential if they obtained adequate staff and a thoughtfully cooked menu. It's perfectly balanced and easily one of the best specialty drinks I've had. Our family also tried the pesto turkey sandwich and it was a hit, fresh, flavorful, and made with quality ingredients. You can really tell everything here is thoughtfully prepared and fresh. The service truly stands out. The owners are incredibly hospitable, warm, and welcoming, which makes the experience even better. The cafe is cute but It took almost 20 minutes for me to get my drink when almost no one was there. I was there with my sibling once and she waited almost 30 minutes for a sandwich. They informed her AFTER she ordered the food that it was out and she had to get something else. She had to get up and ask where her food was. She waited another 30 minutes only to get a glob of cup up avocado on a hard piece of toast and a handful of arugula. Most of the workers were just standing there and not doing anything. First time going here and I'm just beginning to get into coffee. So first thought was the place is really nice and kept up well. It's a plus they have toys for kids to play with it. Which my son loved. But when I went to order and asked a question about the coffee options, they all looked at me like I was stupid. I ordered my drink and food and waited 20 min. They got my name wrong and so I didn't notice it was ready until I went up and asked about it. Even though I was going up to the counter multiple times to check. Honey Lavender Latte , good. You can taste the honey in it and it's not too sweet . The chocolate muffin was delicious. Didnt feel too heavy like muffins usually are . It was more like a fluffy brownie . Service - everyone was nice . Strange that my muffin was handed to me over five minutes later from when I got my drink when it's really just coming out of the pastry case . But they were very kind. Ambience- it's put together nicely . The inside is well done but I feel they need to be better at cleaning the tables off between customers . The outside area is exactly what our area needed . Such a great place to sit and enjoy a coffee with friends. Maybe I was not in the mood, maybe I'm too old . There was a DJ outside and cool . But it felt out of place ,it was too loud for a place to sit and relax and chat with friends. If It was open in the evening I would understand but not for breakfast coffee . I noticed there was additional sitting in front of the coffee shop away from the back garden area . Not quite sure if it was open for only the hotel customers or the coffee shop customers as well . I didn't know this place existed and I am glad I found it! I loved their Dirt Chai;my friend had the Match Latte (it has no added sweet so if you like sweet drinks ask for the sweetener in it). It's a small cute place that has outdoor seating and sits on the premise of the hotel! I wasn't able to take pictures of the area where you order because staff was working and I wanted to respect their privacy. Staff was really nice! I highly recommend this place. Finally made it out to Matriarch Cafe a few weeks ago. It's attached to a motel that's been remodeled. When you first pull in to the parking lot you can tell they put a lot of work and care into transforming the property into something wonderful for their guests. The moment you walk in, you're hit with a heat wave. Since it's a small space the heat gets trapped inside even though they had a big sliding door open to the beautiful courtyard. They had a really nice espresso machine but since it was late in the day I chose not to have coffee. But they have a lot of other drinks available if you need something other than coffee. There's a good assortment of baked goods, and breakfast sandwiches. They even have a full pizza on the menu. Since it was late in the day and we hadn't eaten, my boyfriend ordered the pizza and it came out really quickly! However, it was cold in the middle. It's like it came from the freezer, they forgot to cook it all the way, and then put some arugula on it. So we were kind of disappointed. Since it's not safe to eat partially heated food, we didn't end up eating it. If I go again, I'll try one of their baked goods. I hope they get the reheating temperatures figured out, it's such a nice spot and we love to support small businesses! read more

Even though it was obvious we didnt since we were the only ones in line. She then still didnt take our order, which we then decided to leave. It seems really unorganized, which I understand a bit since it was a bit busy. The chai I got was excellent, and they also have a nice selection of pastries, refreshing drinks, and light food options. The avocado toast did not disappoint. Next time I'll try the Nutella toast. Unfortunately there was a fly enjoying its time in the display case with the treats. .
