Went to check out the post yesterday. We got there early for an early dinner. They were having happy hour from 330-530. They have many places to sit, the patio, banquet area or bar. We chose to sit in the patio area. The server was nice and speedy. I had the Santa Fe chicken salad, garlic fries and my hubby had a French dip sandwich. Portions were generous and delicious. It's a long drive from Lake Tahoe to Bakersfield and we needed a stop in the middle. I opened the Yelp app. My wife wanted a salad. I searched ahead and found The Post in Modesto. This is an event venue too. It's a few miles off the freeway, but easy to find. We picked out a booth and our server was right there to take our drink orders. We ordered the Chicken Club (no onions). It took a few minutes more than I expected, but our food came out in a reasonable amount of time. The sandwich is hearty with a big slice of bacon and a healthy portion of fries. The space is very comfortable and open. We weren't rushed at all. Since we still had a few hours to go, we opted for a to-go box for half the sandwich and fries. I don't even know where to start. The food - we ordered the classic French dip ...sub-par at best. Fries were the extra crunch type that were over cooked. But this place brags on having good garlic fries ...I don't know how. They aren't even sliced potatoes, bc they're made from a packaged substance ...nasty. Service???? Hahahahaha I have found better service at a bowling alley. Choose your seat, nobody tells you the rules, look in the menu & hunt down someone when you make your choice. Be sure to ask for condiments, utensils, salt/pepper, napkins & they will bring you a can of soda. The server was "nice" but he didn't know if the fish are battered & deep fried or if they're frozen & re-heated. Didn't check on us even one time until he brought the bill. Oh yeah, he forgot to give us back our credit card & when we finally found it the card was up on this huge public space counter just laying there out in the open for anyone to steal it. Atmosphere - have you ever seen a guy get a tattoo while you have dinner? Well you will at The Post. Yup, just 4 booths over a lady had a tattoo bed arranged & she did 3 tattoos while we struggled through this experience. Just outside the glass door to the rear of the restaurant was a "pop-up" event ...not bad, but the extra loud music was competing with the music image restaurant & it was kinda annoying. I've said enough & trust me there is more, but you won't want to hear it, maybe you should go throw 3 or 4 twenty dollar bills on lousy food & service & enjoy the experience yourself. Very poor event planning. We went for the valentines dinner. When they were having live jazz music and a candle making class from 5-9. We get there at five and there's no music or candle station set up until almost six. So it just felt like false advertisement because I even called and said I bought tickets for the class when making my reservation and asked what time that started and was told they would be ready by the time they opened. We went as group of 6. One person was trying to check it out as a possible place for a dinner party. Our food came out at different times like one was 20 mins later. The ones who did get theirs early didn't have silverware to eat with. I just had the appetizer sampler. The food was ok but we collectively decided we wouldn't go back. So my husband and I went to an event there called sip and shop and then decided we would go ahead and grab dinner since we were there. The event was nice, they had cool vendors. The dinner experience however was not great. Our waiter seemed like he was nit sure what he was doing, he asked me for my order 3 times. The salad came out and was brown and had barely anything on it. The restaurant only had 1 other table that was occupied so it was not busy but the service was slow. As soon as you walk in you are seated right away. Music is playing in the background. Inside and outside seating available. Our server was very friendly and very welcoming and efficient. First time eating at this restaurant. It was recommended by a coworker who frequents this establishment. I went there for dinner and it's very dimly lit and not a visible restaurant sign. I circled the place twice before stopping and seeing the parking signs. It sits on a lot across from a High School. The place is quite large and can accommodate large parties. The interior decor was unexpected. I felt like little Italy. There was a stage with a live singer when I walked in. She sang beautifully. There's a small bar in the corner that opens up to the front to more seating. For a Friday night, it was not busy at all... servers were quick and checked on us frequently. I ordered the appetizer: mozzarella sticks with garlic fries upgrade, and since I didn't have much of an appetite I ordered the clam chowder. The fries were sooooo good filled with tons of real garlic. If that's what you like, get it!! We ordered 3 of them! (I didn't even get a photo) Clam chowder was good but not spectacular. We ended the meal with fried vanilla ice cream. It was okay. First time trying fried ice cream and I'm unsure how I feel about it. Vibes were pretty kool with the live music. Was here for a quick lunch I always love the quiet atmosphere here when we come for lunch the food is always great and comes out quickly specially if you have a toddler grandchild whose just got of daycare , our waitress name was Carmen very nice and knowledgeable made some great suggestions for us and we ordered our food on her recommendation the Friday special was a excellent choice and good portion so was the taco's and the quinoa burger also the kids meal they have quite a selection for them too. Beautiful place!! They do weddings/receptions here. Some Friday nights are stand up comedy nights. The food is great and so is the service. I wish more people knew of this location. The food was decent; not much to write home about. The Chardonnay chicken and Spinach Alfredo tasted pretty generic with its cheesy/creamy sauce. The chicken was very dry, and K didn't finish the chicken on the alfredo. I didn't taste anything noticeably different in the chardonnay sauce, however the pickled onions were a nice touch and improved the dish quite a bit. The salmon on the Manhattan Linguine was really dry --- it tasted like a smoked-dry salmon. Were you expecting a succulent chunk of salmon you'd be thoroughly disappointed. The tomato sauce was decent and the shrimp was nice. The garlic breads that accompanied the dishes were pretty good. All in all, it was decent, not a disappointment, nor something that would make us want to detour to come back again. read more
