Used to be a fun place to go to but the " bartender" maci seems to be bringing in her own personal drama and ruining the place. She doesn't charge the people she likes and takes a long time to serve the people she don't . Found this place online. Went for drinks after a long day. Was minding my business and all the sudden the (White) people sitting around me had the urge to say the "N" word over and over and over unnecessarily (no exaggeration). It was so uncomfortable that even another bar goer (Jay) had to come and apologize on their behalf. I have a feeling nobody was even saying that until I (black guy) walked in. They were definitely regulars because they knew everyone there including the bartender. It felt very 1964-ish in there but they made it clear they dnt like my kind so i'll gladly take my business else where not that they care. Not a big fan of their nightlife, seems unsafe and sketchy. During the day it's ok, you are not missing much though.

My roommate/platonic lifemate goes down to Manteca all the time to visit his family (like, every week), and whenever he drags me along, it's not long before I want to shoot myself in the head. His family is lovely enough, but there is next to nothing to do in this town--save go to the Rusty Hook. In four words: Small Town Neighborhood Bar. Very where-everyone-knows-your-name kinda joint, but surprisingly not atall hickish. The bartender was kinda scenester actually, and there was a fair amount of 20 something working class people, kinda reminded me of my beloved On the Y in a lot of ways, as far as the more laidback atmosphere. And you can't beat the decor: in the corner is a kinda of fake lawn and picket fence with a baby doll in a non-functioning toilet, some lawn furniture and a bra hanging from a laundry line. Also: they gave me PBR in a Mason Jar. For $2. I repeat: PBR IN A MASON JAR FOR $2. Also: this Jamaican fellow beat our asses at pool pretty badly. Which I consider a sterling recommendation as well. I mean, if you're gonna go to "scenic" Manteca, it's either this or the Gnarly Winery. Actually, considering the selection of bars in a lot of bigger towns, you could do a lot worse in general. Okay, so this is, hands down, my favorite bar in Manteca. The Rusty Hook is a great place to bring your friend's to have a good time. All the bartenders here are awesome people and the owner, Kevin, is super rad. It's really easy to make yourself a regular here. The atmosphere is way cool. Good open floor area and decent amount of seats with a pool table right in the center of the room. This place, on many occasions, can get pretty packed in here. What can I say? It's a popular place, especially during themed party nights. Nights like Halloween, St. Patty's Day, or "Just Because Party's" like 80's Prom night. There's usually a costume contest involved with a prize. The last one I went to was the Zombie and Zombie Hunter Party. Like I said, it can get pretty crowded, but there's been talk of some upgrades in the future. Lots come out to just have a drink with friends. Some come out for pool. A buttload of people come out for karaoke on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. If you're a fan of karaoke, you'll like The Hook. The database of songs is huge and the acoustics in this bar are amazing. I've sang many karaoke nights, heard many of the live bands that have played, and gotten the opportunity to perform with my own bands here. The concrete floors and walls are a singers dream. One of my favorite things here is that there's not a lot of drama. It even says right by the front door: NO DRAMA. Most of the problems I've seen lately has come from the Rocko's rejects that have found a way to keep their ankle alarms from going off and wandered over to sweat douche all over the place. This place is super chill. My husband went there on a Friday for a drink date. We sat at the bar and the bartender asked us what we would like to drink. I asked the bartender for something fruity, since I wasn't sure what I was in the mood for. Mind you the bartender was this super tattoo-ed, long mustache guy...he asked me if I wanted vodka or rum. I've been coming to this bar since the last owners owned it, and a little bit before that. $3 Dollar Pabst Blue Ribbon and a bar staff that can keep up with any drink order no matter how tall. Only bad thing is riff raff tends to come in on the weekends, but it is the best place to come in for some karaoke, which they have now Tuesday, Thursday AND Friday now. I too started goin to this bar before the current owner and have to say i preferred it better. Used to have live bands and a not so tense atmosphere. Now its like they are just tryin to be something they arent, its still just manteca guys.... I admit i still go sometimes and every time i do, i miss the good ol days of Sherri's. Plus sometimes i wait literally 20 minutes for a drink, even when the bar isnt that busy, bartender is usually engaged in deep conversation with someone, and daytime bartender knows his drinks but couldnt seem to care less if you are there or not... nice guy though.... I was just reading the filtered reviews. The one about the chick blowing chunks in the toilet is hilarious. I remember that night well and know exactly who the two chicks are that the dude was talking about in his review. One is the owners girlfriend and the other one is her ex best friend (we all know who that is...first name begins with a D)! Nothing like ending your night at the bar having to be literally carried out to the car. You were a rag doll. Remember how you asked me if your hair smelled like barf? I lied, it did! But I love you girls anyway. I think that dude tom was a little hard on you. He called you both average looking. I would say by Manteca standards, you're a tad above average. Just don't leave the city limits. I'm sure he was rating you both on what women look like outside of our lovely little "Mantweeka". As long as you don't leave Manteca, you'll still be considered just a little bit above average looking. As far as the partying goes, live and let live, right? We have all seen you both as shit faced and stumbling around as a person can get. And, we have ALL been royally wasted there at one time or another. We kind of have to stay drunk when we live in Manteca. There's nothing else to do. You chicks are great entertainment. I love knowing that when I come in for a cold one, even five or ten years from now, you will still be up to your old tricks at the bar.
