We have been coming here for years and I can't believe I haven't left a review. Just realized that. I really like "Claudia's Favorite" which is six spicy beef taquitos. Served with shredded cabbage, radishes and topped with some sour cream. My wife likes their Chicken Soup. Of course we get other dishes there but these 2 are our favorites. Once seated they bring you chips, salsa and a side of refried beans to dip your chips in if you like. The servers are friendly and helpful. This place stays pretty busy also. read more

Mexican cuisine is some of the best food in the world. People should be driving from miles around to come to Las Casuelas. It could be great but nobody seems to give a *%&! If you don't care, I don't care. I'm not eating here anymore. I'd rather make a bologna sandwich at home. Having eaten at Las Casuelas at least a dozen times, I've gotten the full experience. At best, the food here ever so slightly resembles something truly Mexican. The flavors are muted. The mole, for example, tastes like it was made out of box. It lacks complexity. The beans seem to just sit on hold and have the quality of leftovers. This place is more like Chevys than a real Mexican restaurant. If you want to drink beer, eat salsa, chips, and guacamole then this is the place for you. The service is friendly but that doesn't mean the service can be considered good. Frankly, I don't care if they throw the food at me as long as it tastes good! Just because you serve it with a smile doesn't make it taste any better. The focus seems to be on expediting the food out of the kitchen window instead of considering, "Would I serve this to my mother?" The restaurant doesn't appear to have consistent recipes nor the cooks who are trained and willing to live up to any standard. There is no attention to detail. For the most part, ingredients seem to be thrown together in a sloppy and haphazard way. I've always had to remind the servers to make sure my food comes out hot, please don't overcook the food, can you be sure to bring us some salsa??? This final time, I asked for Chicken Milanese which is essentially a pounded out piece of chicken breast. It's fried chicken. I asked them to please refrain from overcooking it. What arrived was a very, very thin peace a chicken that had been fried to a crisp. It was more of a cracker than poultry at that point. All of the juices and fat had been cooked right out of the chicken breast. Tasteless. If the same chicken had not been pounded down to the thickness of a fingernail, then it would have been harder to murder it in the deep fryer. I let the waiter know and he didn't care. My friend asked for soup without vegetables. Guess what? I spent my dinner watching him conduct soup-surgery, removing the vegetables like he was playing that game, Operation, and dripping broth all over the table in the process. People usually go to restaurants to have the cooks prepare the food for them and, unless you're at a Korean BBQ, most costumers expect the food to arrive at the table, "ready-to-eat". Alright, this is the nail in the coffin. They served me a tomato with the tomato pit in it. Do I need to prep the tomatoes now too? All of you can do better, you just don't. read more

HAVE AGAIN: Chile relleno had too much breading but was still very good. Dos enchiladas with mole was good, but needed mole inside and more outside. Maybe better to have Mole Poblano next time. We decided to give this place another shot after not having returned here for a few years. We now remember why we had not returned and will definitely never be back. 5 people at our table with 5 different dishes and we were all disappointed. Fish tacos lacked flavor, quesabirrias had dry meat and severely lacked flavor, just horrible! The chicken fajitas were just OK but terrible rubbery tortillas, the chile relleno dish had terrible red sauce, and the sides of Mexican rice were such a let down. I don't know how anyone eats here. There was also a super burrito that wasn't finished, we all had leftovers that did not think twice about leaving. The one thing that was good was refried bean dip for the chips! Las Casuelas is a solid choice if you're in the Ripon area. The restaurant has booth style seating throughout the middle area. There are two semi-private areas near the front that can accommodate fairly large groups. There is a full bar towards the back with table top seating. There are two bathrooms that are single person only. One thing I enjoy snacking on is their complimentary chips, salsa and bean dip. The salsa and bean dip complement each other well. I haven't tried a lot of the options on the menu, but my go to selection are their taco truck tacos with carne asada. The tacos are just the right size. They are served with a salsa that tastes great and a couple of limes to top it off. Although I have not tried them, they are supposed to be known for good Micheladas. They also offer $4 margaritas on Tuesdays and Thursdays after 3pm with the purchase of an entree. Every time I have visited, I have received good service from the wait staff. The service isn't my issue with place or even the ambiance. It's the food, it's usually pretty edible but as of late, it's just not even that.maybe it's because I get it to go and dine in. Who knows. Anyways, I ordered nachos to go and they were awful. The chips were stale and soggy. Funny thing though, the chips and salsa they provide were fresh. I stopped here for the first time yesterday and the service was good, but the food was not to good only the bean dip you get with your chips. I ordered shrimp rancheros which only come with 6 little shrimps and a rip off for $19 dollars. As a person that travels for work it eats out every day they are straight hustling people. The guy said they were large prawns and they were small shrimp. The sauce they are in is not that flavorful. I've been coming to this place for over 15 years or so and this week I stopped by to have a bite to eat. The bean dip and salsa don't even taste the same anymore, actually they're not even good. The fajitas were dry and overcooked. The bartender guy that was taken care of me all of a sudden disappeared. I had to wait over 15 minutes for someone to bring me tortillas which they forgot then another 20 minutes for someone to bring napkins and the bill. It seem like no one care. I don't know if there' is new ownership or something because they were little kids walking in and out the kitchen but will not be back and won't recommend. read more

Really happy we finished our business early, as the Roadhouse had not yet opened. They were just putting out the open sign at 11, so we went in. Fast friendly service and great food! Used to be a staple for me and friends, but that quality seems to have gone downhill rapidly. Visited in the past week with two friends for drinks & some finger foods, and all three of us fell SICK that evening and into the following day. We only had chips & salsa, beans & rice, and an order of nachos. The nachos were so subpar; soggy, weirdly dispersed, and it looked like they were sitting out for a very long time. They actually were just straight up gross. The drinks tasted like something was expired or was full of chemicals/preservatives. We ordered some type of pomegranate rum drink, and I could not taste a single ounce of alcohol in it, just sour/past due mixer. The server was dry and not engaged, but I feel like that's typical for a few of the servers at Las Casuelas. Not trying to be one to complain but if you want a food borne illness and low quality dining, this is the place! read more

Service was ok. Just ok. Most of the workers seemed irritated to be there, and/or lost. The food was not good. Every plate was very hot as though the food was microwaved before it came out. Every plate was prepared sloppy as well. The michelada was lazily thrown together, half ass rim, and ice in my cup. Bathrooms were dirty. Bare minimum is the general theme here. Would not recommend this place for a meal to anyone, ever. I see compliments regarding a large menu with tons of selections. This is not a good sign in any restaurant. This shows your food will not be freshly made or even made the same day or yesterday. Most of it will be frozen and reheated for your consumption. The biggest question is when was it frozen? Days? Last week? Definitely need someone who cares to get in that restaurant to turn things around. Your current employees and/or owner obviously do not care. read more

Service was beyond great from the moment we walked in. We were promptly greeted by the hostess in front who seated us immediately. There were two waiters who were both friendly and attentive to our needs the entire visit, making sure we had refills right away and the food was to our liking. The ambiance was nice with a cozy and welcoming vibe to the place. We ordered Nachos as an appetizer, it came out quickly and tasted fresh hot and delicious. The waiter recommended a shrimp plate that came with beans and rice and it turned out to be a great recommendation. Customer service was horrible . As soon as we walked in, no one was no where to be found and we had to seat ourselves . Then the short older guy comes up and greets us rudely. No smile or anything. We continue on with our lunch date, then ask if I could get something else instead and asks why, what's a matter and continues being rude just stared when he walks by looking so unhappy. Food was fine. Service was bad. When we walked in we asked about outdoor seating the waiter pointed us through the restaurant and out the back door. We had to navigate ourselves out to the back door. Found a seat and then waited. After we got menus and chips we waited for a while until a man who was clearly under the influence came out to take our order. Food was brought out and we never saw the waiters again. We had to go inside and ask the bartender/waiter who was buzzed for our tag. He couldn't understand what I was asking. Delicious! We are not from the area and googled restaurants near our air bnb. We stumbled across this gem and the food was delicious! Honestly the best salsa I ever ate. Haha. Chips were warm and fresh, and everything else we had were really good. My hubby and I got the fajitas for 2. The portions were big which we liked. Only thing was they looked like they were short staffed as it took a while for someone to come seat us, and took a while for us to get our order in. I also saw customers leaving because no one helped them to their table. But overall, we would be back because the food was excellent! Environment is very family owned restaurant. Came to this location because of the horrible service we received at the Manteca location numerous time. However we loved the food and hoped Ripon would be a better choice, and it was! First thing I noticed was how friendly the staff was! Upon arriving there was a female and her family behind us that were extremely rude to the waiter while we were getting seated. Clearly she wanted a free meal and cut my waiter off mid sentence as she was taking our order, to demand her waiter. Our waitress apologized to us and quickly went to get the waiter as the lady was clearly not happy. When he came to her table she continue to tell him how disgusting the food was and she refused to eat it. He was so polite, apologized and offered to make a new dish or re make the dish she ordered. She declined and just wants it off her ticket. Continue to rush her son to eat so she "could get out of here". The waiter handled it with grace and tact! Our waitress even tried to offer another dish and I could hear the Karen saying, "I didn't mean to be rude" and playing the victim card. Huge kudos to the wait staff‼‼ My food was delicious and arrived in a timely manner. My husband accidentally spilled his whole drink on my lap ‍ The manager Fátima jumped into action and cleaned everything before I could even ask. Great local Mexican place in downtown Ripon. My favorite dish is he Mocajete. A bubbling cauldron of green sauce, meat, cheese, and other things. Salio Ed over rice or served with tortillas, yum!
