This was an interesting experience. I found this place on Yelp and decided to check it out during my son's lunch break from his tournament. The rest of the team heard we were going here, so they decided to join us. When we walked in, the restaurant was busy, and I honestly didn't think they would have enough space for all of us. Luckily, they did! They also knew we had to get back for the next game, and our server was really helpful getting all of our orders started quickly. The reason I say this was an interesting experience is because the service was good, but our server would also disappear for long periods of time and forget to bring things we asked for. I'm not sure if she was the only server and there were only 2 bussers for the whole restaurant, but she would leave and not come back for 10-20 minutes. The food was pretty good! I had the Pescado Relleno, and I have never had anything like it. It also came in a REALLY weird package. Instead of putting the fish in a bowl, since it had so much broth, they put it in a makeshift foil bowl. Maybe that is how they cooked it, but it was definitely not user-friendly. As soon as I touched it, the broth started coming out all over my rice, salad, and table. I had to ask multiple times for a bowl, I hate the sensation of my fork hitting foil, and I definitely didn't want to accidentally eat little pieces of foil. My husband had the Burrito Supreme with carnitas, and it was really good. He finished the whole thing! Both my kids had the quesadillas, which they completely DESTROYED. They also brought us chips with salsa and beans, which were delicious and also destroyed by the whole hungry baseball team we brought with us. Overall, the experience was great, and we were really happy we found this place so close to Mistlin Field. Stopped by Esmeralda's for lunch on Labor Day and was glad to see they were open. I was seated immediately and had my choice of where to sit. The staff was pleasant and welcoming from the start. They immediately brought out a mix of corn and flour tortilla chips along with medium red salsa and refried beans. Everything tasted great. I especially love flour tortilla chips, so that was a nice touch. I ordered the Steak à la Mexicana for $18.75, which was not part of the lunch menu. The carne asada was tender and cooked with green peppers and onions in a very flavorful sauce that had just the right amount of spice. It was supposed to be served with rice, beans, and tortillas, but I didn't receive the rice or tortillas. The refried beans were topped with cheese and had a good flavor. The food came out piping hot, including the plate, which was very hot to the touch. The portion was also plenty big enough that I had leftovers for dinner. Service was very attentive. The staff checked on me several times, offered more chips, and kept my water refilled. There is plenty of seating inside, a couple of TVs near the bar, bar seating, and a good selection of tequilas. They also have several different Mexican bottled sodas to choose from. Overall, a great lunch with good food and friendly, attentive service. There are no half stars so I had to really think about if this was three or four stars. The amount of food you get for the price pushed me over to the four star review. Friendly waitresses! Our food was on the table within five minutes or our order being placed and we dined on a Friday evening when all tables and the bar was full. I got wet chicken burrito half red and half green sauce with sour cream on the side. The green sauce was significantly better in my opinion. Green sauce was an easy four stars red was a two stars for me. Green has more spice to it! My date got the La Compuesta salad, he loved his. He ate the whole thing which I could not have done. I took half my burrito home. The beans they serve with chips are delicious as you see in others reviews too. The salsa however left a lot to be desired. The chicken in my chicken quesadilla was dry and unseasoned, service was horribly slow. We waited 30 minutes for our check, and our drinks never were refilled. Chips and salsa stayed empty the entire time. Not to mention there were so many flies! We've come here before but the experience got worse each visit. read more

OK, listen... If you're going to do Mexican food, please at least get the rice right! It has absolutely no flavor! You can tell just by looking at it. And what I've learned in my years is that you should never expect good quality, authentic ethnic food if the main demographic in the restaurant are white people. That's not saying anything bad about white people, but most of us don't know any better! We think Taco Bell is Mexican food and panda express is Chinese food... I had high hopes because the bean dip and chips were really good, but we were terribly disappointed with the nachos... It's definitely not what we were expecting. The portion sizes are ridiculous... I was there on a Taco Tuesday August 19th. I met some friends there. I go there often. But this day was the worse service I have ever had there. We ordered. My friends each an ordered a platter of about gonna say maybe six tacos on the plate. I ordered two street tacos and the order came for my friends, but my order did not come so we asked about my order and the waitress said oh your order is up there. I just haven't brought it to you so as we watched her deliver plates to all of the other tables I was getting angry so after a good amount of time, I decided to leave so I left the manager came over to find out what happened and was told exactly what happened and she said well everybody's ordering tacos. Well duh it's taco Tuesday. What did you expect but my friend got theirs and I couldn't have mine. Good food. Only issue was service was a little slow . The one thing to watch for is the lunch menu prices are "cash" prices and there is nothing telling you that on the "lunch" menu. I have to come here whenever I visit Ripon, because it's just that good! The enchilada is my go-to order--the right amount of cheese and sauce. The veggies for the lettuce and guac are always fresh. We stopped going to this place due to poor service. We would call in and order, they said to pick it up in 20 mins, we give them 30 mins because we know they are slow, then we show up and they just start our order and have to sit there for an additional 45 mins. This happened multiple times. My husband got a gift card as a present so we called in lunch. I asked if the super burrito comes with sour cream and they said yes. I ordered 2 asada burritos and 2 carnitas burritos. Lo and behold!! My husband brought the order home and there was no sour cream and 2 of the burritos were chicken instead of carnitas. Smh.
