We've been here a number of times since opening. I can say the last handful- service has been great! Frank (*ahem, Franklin) was on point! He truly made for an enjoyable meal. No one needed to send up a flare to make sure drinks were cared for/topped off or the table remained clean. He made recommendations (kudos for the up-sale) to make already great dishes even better. We had two specialty drinks, salad- add chicken (perfectly cooked and well-seasoned), a sandwich with truffle fries, and of course- the butter cake. Superb. I'm glad we went today. Friends invited us to Bistro 120 for dinner. Wow, great experience. First of all, Jocelyn and her wait crew did a fantastic job. Kind, friendly and on the ball. They seemed happy to be at work. I like that. I had the Steak Salad and it was wonderful. Steak cooked beautifully and plenty of goodies in the salad. My wife had the Bolognese and she really enjoyed it. A little bit salty but great flavor. We ordered a side of the sourdough rolls and enjoyed them. Our friends had the same two plates and were very happy with them. They had them before. The restaurant is decorated beautifully. Someone put a lot of money and time into putting this restaurant together. We can't wait to go back. read more

4.5/5: We were shown our table right away with reservation. Starting off, The sourdough bread and charred butter was so good so are the truffle fries. I went with bolognese since I dont typically make pasta at home. It was ok and a bit salty for my taste. Friends did enjoy their cod and steak. Cod seems small in the photo but its a good size. That was another option I was thinking but since I eat fish often I went with pasta. Frank was our waiter and he was amazing. The butter cake dessert was what he chose for us and the cake itself is amazing but the icecream added on top is too much sweetness for me. The entire staff very nice and they close at 8pm but let us sit and chat close to 9pm while they were closing and cleaning up. It was very nice of them. I tried to leave before they had to tell us. I really enjoyed the ambience at Bistro 120, and the service was great. During our visit, we were asked to switch tables to accommodate a larger party, and the staff kindly removed our drinks from the bill for the inconvenience, which we really appreciated. ALL the waitstaff and manager (I think- blue floral polo) were very focused on closure for the full hour. Unloading clean dishes, stocking the bar, a lot of watch checking. This is pretty off-putting when trying to enjoy food and feeling the pressure of closing time. No ongoing smiles or eye contact. Ambience: very cute, modern vibe. May need to look into some sound absorption material as there is quite loud reverberations from lively parties nearby. My Husband and I went to Bistro 120 in Oakdale last night to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. A friend recommended it to us. I really enjoyed the ambiance, it was very welcoming. Came here for lunch to have my wife try this place for the first time. I was looking forward to getting steak but realize their lunch menu was different than their dinner menu. They didn't have any "steak" entree so I went with the Cowboy Capital Cheeseburger ($23). Waitress asked if I wanted fries or salad so opted to be healthy and get salad. Was surprised that adding that instead of fries was an additional $2! Ouch. Would have been nice if the waitress had let me known that. My wife had the salad and upgraded with steak. $29 And she tried the bowl of clam chowder $8. So for the burger, it was pretty good but not sure I can justify the price since the menu doesn't say it's "Angus" or grade A beef. To be honest though, there's a lot of good burger places at a fairer price that's under $23. My wife had the steak in her salad labeled as "Snake river farms wagyu". Her first impression was it had a funny smell when her salad was given but it seemed she liked it. Sadly for lunch, $79 bill and add tip, I can't justify a $94 price for lunch.. lol. Service was good. Our waitress was very nice and the staff in general were cordial. Now that my wife has tried this place, I think we are good for awhile to come here. Happy New Year! My husband and I wanted to celebrate New Year's Eve by going out to eat. We thought about some of our favorite restaurants nearby but didn't really feel like staying in town. We also didn't want to have to drive too far out of town either. Bistro 120 was the perfect solution! We were able to make reservations in advance for an early dinner which was ideal. Upon being seated at our table our server took our beverage order and brought our drinks very promptly. We noticed the restaurant was decorated very festively with evergreen wreaths which added a great touch. We placed our food orders and enjoyed the lively atmosphere and celebratory vibe. Our food was delicious as always. I devoured the sea bass while my husband devoured his rib eye. No visit to Bistro 120 would be complete without the infamous butter cake. There are simply no words that accurately describe the flavor explosion of that cake. It is absolutely divine. We have been back here for almost all of our special dinners over the past two years. The first time we came our waiter, Frank, made our experience simply unforgettable! I will start by saying the food here is amazing. The steak was cooked perfectly, and the appetizers were delish. We ordered the asparagus and the Brussels sprouts as appetizers and split the New York steak. I'm giving a 5-star here because it's rare to find things up to this standard, but I have some points for improvement. The service was good, but my drink order was incorrect. Not a big deal or worth one less start. However, the ambiance is close but not quite. We had a reservation and, upon arrival, were seated between two full tables. One had two children who were loud and wiggly throughout our whole meal. (Nothing against children, they were totally appropriate for their age and very cute) But it would be nice if reservations had designated areas that were a bit farther away from the crunch of the walk-in crowd. Iv'e been thinking about this spot for a long time since I passed by it after eating at The House of Beef and I finally had the chance to go for me and my wife's 15 year anniversary. What a hidden gem I can see why y'all gate keeping. The building is located perfectly in the downtown and just screams fancy. From the Inside the restaurant it is very upscale and has impressive interior design. The scent as soon as you enter is very welcoming and the hosts are very attentive. We were seated on time with respect to our reservation. I had the Cowboy old Fashion and my wife the Pink Spur. Perfectly made drinks and topped off with the smokey effects. For the appetizer we had the Lamb lollipops that were a pair with a delicious mint chimichurri. My wife got the Salmon with the ancient grains and broccolini and I got the rib eye with mash potatoes and green beans. To end the night we had the Heavenly Brownie Sunday that was top tier. We couldn't get enough of our dishes and each others lol. The flavor profile of each dish was way better than the experience of Hells kitchen in Lake Tahoe. The front of the restaurant can be seen from Highway 120, but the parking and main entrance is to the rear of the restaurant. The inside of the restaurant has a really clean and modern vibe to it. The front of the restaurant has a large L shape bar along with bar top seating. There are several tables in the front. There is a long hall that leads towards the rear of the restaurant. In the hall there are several tables lining the wall along the walkway. The rear seating is more of an intimate setting with includes some tables for larger parties with a gas fireplace insert for added ambiance. I have found the staff to always be a pleasure to deal with from the hostess to our personal server. There are plenty of drink and food options that are sure to appeal to everyone. I ordered the prime rib French dip and it did not disappoint. The bun was soft and fresh. The meat was tender, juicy and had great taste. The au jus complimented it well for a nice bite. The French fries also complimented the sandwich well. They taste good, had a nice crunch and were not over oily or salted. My husband and I recently dined here. We really wanted to like this place, but the meal did not come close to justifying the prices. I ordered the Cacio e Pepe for $31, described on the menu as fermented black garlic, black pepper, parmesan, parsley, and watermelon radish. I understood that this was going to be a NON-traditional version, and I expected something deeply savory, peppery, and possibly a little funky or acidic from the black garlic. What I did not expect was a loose, brown, gravy-like sauce pooled beneath the pasta. It was very salty, slightly vinegary, and the best description I can give it is Pasta Poutine. The grated parmesan, parsley, and large slices of watermelon radish on top did not make the dish feel more cohesive. The issue was not that it was an inventive take on cacio e pepe; the issue was that the menu description did not remotely prepare me for what arrived, and I simply did not enjoy it. The wine experience was also uncomfortable. I has requested a sample of a particular wine, and the server obliged. However, when I politely said that wine was not to my taste and asked for a different varietal, rather than simply replacing it, our server tried to persuade me to keep drinking it because many people supposedly dislike it at first and then change their minds midway through the glass. When I repeated that I would prefer the different varietal, our server responded, "As you wish, miss." It felt patronizing and unnecessary. My husband ordered the $24 burger and fries. The restaurant did not have ordinary yellow mustard, only Dijon, and the fries appeared to be generic orange, batter-coated seasoned fries rather than anything that matched the price point. High prices are not automatically a problem for us when the food and service support them. Here, they did not. Between the $31 Pasta Poutine, the $24 burger with food-service-style fries, and the awkward response to a simple wine substitution, we left disappointed. read more

Their version was an absolute delight to eat. The cheese, a Gouda blend, was literally oozing between two chunks of Texas Toast. Cheryl recommended trying their dessert speciality..... Decent dinner last night. I had the wagu NY steak and everyone else had the burgers. My meal was okay and got cold quit due to the way the mashed potatoes were spread out over the plate. Ultimately I couldn't finish due to temperature as hardened buttered potatoes were not enjoyable. Steak was okay but not worth $67. I enjoyed the updates to the beer menu and enjoyed my Fieldwork hazy Pulp. apps were good with the lamb shanks the popular choice. Tonight was my second time coming here and my first time for dinner. Everything overall was really good. And our waiter was fantastic! So knowledgeable and friendly. Small flaws were the broccolini with my husband's meal was barely cooked and so hard it was inedible. I ordered a steak salad and the steak wasn't cooked to the temperature I asked for and could have really used a touch more salt. While these are minuscule complaints- paying the price you pay at a higher end restaurant these oversights are disappointing. The venue was still very nice and no visible wear on the chairs or menus even. Didn't see any dust and floors were clean, walls blemish free. Won't say the aforementioned quality issues will keep me away entirely but rather make me think more if it's where I'd like to spend my money. read more

I had one of my best meals here tonight. I ordered the miso sea bass with ancient grains which I've had here several times before and the cook on the sea bass was absolutely perfect tonight. The accompanying ancient grains & greens was also better than previously, a light & herbaceously seasoned mix of perhaps barley, almond slivers, cranberries & maybe some couscous, whatever, it was delicious. I paired it with a new to me wine; Vermentino from I think Tuscany? My preference is reds but I felt like exploring whites tonight. Tasted a couple and selected this as I don't much care for oaky flavors, this was bright & acidic and complemented the sea bass well. Unfortunately my husband's filet ordered as medium rare was over, I gave him a taste of my sea bass & he will have that next time even though he's not a fish lover! We finished with an affogato which was a generous two scoops of ice cream & a sauce pot of espresso to pour over ourselves so the ice cream doesn't melt too quickly. My husband and I just returned from dinner at Bistro 120. We have dined here a few times since it opened. We made reservations and asked for a four top so not to be crowded and that was accomplished. The hostess was very pleasant and seated us quickly. Waters were served soon after and our server, Deanna, came by to get our service started. My husband ordered a margarita and I ordered a Hendricks and tonic. Oddly, the salt was heavy on only one side. We perused the menu and decided on soup, salad and mains. One of our critiques of Bistro 120 is their apps are very limited and none appeal to us. We waited at least twenty minutes for our cocktails. Deanna came by and took our order. My husband ordered a bowl of clam chowder and the filet, rare. I ordered the wedge salad and the ribeye, medium rare. Our cocktails finally arrived as did our soup and salad. My husband enjoyed his soup and my salad was fresh and delicious! Before too long, our entrees arrived. My husbands soup was removed when finished but the entrees arrived before I was finished with my salad. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his filet mignon, both in quality and in preparation. My ribeye was perfectly medium rare and delicious. Since we were celebrating our anniversary, we had to order dessert. My hubby ordered the chocolate brownie with ice cream and I ordered the butter cake without ice cream, just whipped cream. Both thoroughly enjoyed. I've been here twice (2 times) but I'm Yelping about the most recent one. The food is great but pretty expensive. about $30, more or less per person. The service was very slow, and there wasn't a lot of people in total. We had to ask for the desert menu ourselves. If we hadn't asked, then the kitchen would have closed before we got our desert. Not very loud. It was someone's birthday and we chose to get a (free) cupcake for them. They got rid of a certain item, tacos or something. Somebody in the fam was shocked about that. A couple of the many lights were out. The waitress barely checked on us. Some came after us and they got served first. Tables, chairs, and such are clean. Restrooms are nice (for the women's.) The paper towel dispenser was the least-best part. It would come out in shreds almost, or get backed up. Overall, I would come back. I just hope that the service is better. Sorry! read more

We entered this place with our service dog. At the front, a couple of very nice staff greeted us, and we let them know we had a service dog. The staff was very nice and friendly. They took us to a fairly spacious table since we came with a dog. Everything was great until a bald older guy came to our table and, without saying hi or anything, said, "Dogs in car." Literally nothing else. I showed him the paperwork, and he tried to snatch it from my hand, which I reminded him he can't take legally and can't request the documents legally, but I was nice enough to show it to him. I waited a couple more minutes, but I didn't feel safe sitting there anymore after I saw how dissatisfied he was. Crazy world--what if he adds something to our food? We just left. FYI, many people in the restaurant (staff and customers) gave so many compliments to our service dog. read more

My family and I have always enjoyed coming to Bistro 120 in Oakdale, which is why this recent experience was so disappointing. As a parent of a child with autism, I cannot express how much effort, planning, and emotional energy it takes just to enjoy a simple meal out as a family. When we find a place where we feel comfortable, it becomes a meaningful and rare part of our routine. My son has autism and significant sensory and dietary limitations. He cannot always eat restaurant food, so I bring a small meal for him so he can participate and feel included. In the past, the staff at Bistro 120 had always been understanding about this, and that consistency is the only reason we felt comfortable returning without calling ahead each time. During our recent visit, however, the staff became upset that I hadn't notified them in advance. While I fully respect restaurant policies, I also want to be very clear: Children with autism are protected under federal disability law. Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), restaurants must provide reasonable modifications to their policies when necessary for a person with a disability (42 U.S.C. § 12182(b)(2)(A)(ii)). Autism is legally recognized as a disability, and businesses are required to adjust "no outside food" policies when needed for disability-related reasons (28 C.F.R. § 36.302). Allowing outside food for sensory or dietary needs is not optional it is a protected accommodation. Being made to feel uncomfortable and singled out for something that had always been permitted was hurtful. Families like mine already live with challenges most people don't see: sensory overload, strict routines, meltdowns, dietary struggles, and the constant need to advocate so our children can simply be included like everyone else. I'm sharing this not out of anger, but out of hope. I hope Bistro 120 takes this as an opportunity to reflect, improve communication, and ensure that families with disabilities are treated with the understanding and consistency the law requires. At the end of the day, I do appreciate that the staff tried to make it up afterward but by then it was already too late. We are not a family that likes to make a scene, so we quietly carried the sadness of the moment with us. It just shouldn't have happened in the first place. I truly hope no other family has to feel the way we did, and that future experiences can be handled with more compassion and awareness. read more
