What a great spot!! Commonwealth has totally hit the mark with their beers. My husband and I came with some friends as we were visiting from out of town. Our group came for drinks, apps, and to play games. The space is a great hangout spot. We had lots of beers and ciders and each one was better than the next. My husband found his new fav beer (can't recall the name but something with the bees knees). The apps we had too were yummy. The garlic fries took the cake with a nice texture and size of Fry with the perfect amount of seasoning. The staff was friendly and accommodating and the space was great for us to hang as a group of 6 and play monopoly deal all while enjoying the food and drinks of Commonwealth. I will definitely be coming back when I'm back in the area.

Overall an excellent experience. A good sized group went here yesterday between a dry wedding and an even drier reception and all had a great time. The menu was great. I had my favorite Fieldwork hazy and others had the Pliny and red and white wines. Service was great. Fast and responsive. Ambiance was good too. We all felt comfortable and safe in downtown Turlock. Everything was clean and bathrooms were clean too. Highly recommend going back soon!

Stopped in for a late night bite after a Christmas party. The, staff was very friendly and helpful. Ordered the Commonwealth burger with fries. Great burger taste, plenty juicy, lots of garnishes in there. Wish the meat patty was bigger though. Plenty of fries, were VERY crispy! Not in a burnt way, just a very pleasant crispy way. Glad I stopped in.

    2 pork & 1 chicken taco

Now I remember why I don't go here. It was 50 degrees outside when I arrived to meet a friend. concrete floors. High ceilings. Aesthetics are good. However, when you are so cold and feel like you're in an icebox... not fun. I had to switch my plan from beer to a red wine so I didn't have to hold a cold glass of beer. I told the gal at the front how cold it was and after hearing how they aren't cold... she turned around and told the guy wearing shorts to turn it up 1 degree. yes. Just 1 degree. Um... seriously. I asked her to look around and not one person had their coat off. That's a sign we are all cold. I don't know about all of you, but I like to be cozy and take my coat off and relax when I go out. My salad was marginal. my friend had the pork tacos and 1 chicken. He said they were fine. On another note... I had to leave a tab open to order my wine before my friend got there. I told her we would be eating as well. My friend ended up putting it on his card. But here we are 2 days later and I have a $1 pending on my card. I called Commonwealth and she said it automatically charges your card $1 and it should get reversed in 48 hours. Now, I know it's only $1, but, this never happens anywhere else. If you go to a bar and "keep it open" I have never been charged $1 on top of a bill to keep tab open. Have you?? It's my dollar, not yours to keep for 48 -72 hours! lol. Won't be back unless it's warmer out ...I may try. But customers were saying it's really hot in there in summer. So that's a hard no for me. Don't say I didn't warn you.

    BLEAT sandwich comes with fries

The husband and I came here on a Sunday for the brunch menu and were pleased with the food and experience. I got the BLEAT sandwich (fried egg, bacon, tomato, lettuce, on sourdough with a lemon aioli) and he got the chicken and waffles. The aioli on the sandwich really lightened the flavor and was refreshing. Overall my husband liked his choice but would prefer that the chicken breast to be beaten thinner. The waffle was delicious. Good music, good service, good beer! We'll be back for brunch to try more.

Went there last minute and enjoyed the food. I had the Napa Nachos and liked them. They were made with homemade potato chips and I was surprised that the combination worked. My wife had a glass of wine. $9.70 and a small pour. Not impressed with that. The place is clean with a relaxed atmosphere.

SOS from the Sunday brunch menu.

I am moving my rating up to 5 stars. Food has drastically improved since they opened. Always have at least three quality dark beers on rotation!Their Sunday brunch menu is very reasonably priced.

Had an overnight work trip that had me in Modesto so I was trying to find something fun to eat…read more After a bit of research I found this place. I showed up around 7pm and I thought it might have been closed because no one was here. But they were open. I ordered a Bauer burger with the house seasoned fries. They asked how I'd like the egg cooked and the burger cooked: I asked for medium for both. Given how dead the place was, it did take a minute to get my food. The burger was ok, not worth $21. The bun fell apart very quickly which is a bit of a cardinal sin in the burger game. The bacon on the burger was not bacon strips but a bit of bacon crumble. The patty was a bit overcooked so it was dry and it wasn't seasoned so it was bland. The egg was cooked perfectly, but the aioli and the egg yolk with a disintegrated bun made for a huge mess. The fries were interesting. The house seasoned fries are not salted. So the fries were almost sweet due to the spices, but no salt. And they do not have regular table ketchup or malt vinegar. I did ask for some ketchup and they brought me their house ketchup. While not like a classic ketchup, it was actually quite good. Oh, be aware. They will charge you a 4% fee when they bring you the check (what would have happened if I'd paid with cash?). I do not see anywhere on the menu where they say their is a payment fee so that is a pretty shady business practice. Overall: meh. I think for the price point the burger should have been great, but sadly I can't say it was great or even good. I'd likely not return.

The seasoning on the fries and the Mac and cheese was also unique and kind of sweet.

The fries with the spicy mayo and teriyaki sauce made the dish. It was very savory. My son enjoyed it. The fried calamari was also good. The calamari and jalapeno peppers were crispy and salted well. The sweet and sour sauce that accompanied it was added a slight heat to the dish. We enjoyed our meal here and would return the next time we are in Santa Cruz.

My grandma and I visited around dinner on a Saturday and were seated on the (dog-friendly) patio. They did have propane heaters, but not enough of them, so it was quite chilly. For drinks, we both got hot Green Tea to warm up, which was very standard - served in pre-packed tea bags. For food, we ordered the Okonomiyaki Fries and Maitake Mushroom Flatbread to share. The Okonomiyaki Fries were pretty good and I enjoyed all the toppings, especially the spicy pink mayo. I usually prefer thinner fries, but I liked the crispy texture. However, the Maitake Mushroom Flatbread was a bit disappointing. There just wasn't enough bechamel and mozzarella on top and the flavor somewhat bland. Service was friendly, but I miss their old menu offerings, like the Heirloom Tomato Flatbread. Not a huge fan of the rebrand!

We specifically chose this place because it advertised itself as dog-friendly. When we arrived, the game had already started, and the bar was nearly empty. Since it was open seating, we chose the best available table to watch the match. It was a table for six, and the waitress asked us to move to a smaller table in case a larger group arrived. That seemed reasonable, so we moved without any issue. Another server took our order, and everything was fine throughout the first half of the game. A little later, two other customers came in and sat at the same six-person table we had originally chosen. They were also asked to move for the same reason. Instead of moving, they simply left. At this point, the bar was still almost empty on a Wednesday morning. At halftime, we noticed a completely empty patio with a two-person table that offered an even better view of the game, so we moved there. Unfortunately, our service was then taken over by the original waitress. When she approached our table with the wrong order, she came up abruptly and startled our elderly dog, who barked. Rather than apologizing or correcting the order, she immediately told us that if other guests arrived, we would have to leave. Looking around at the nearly empty restaurant, I replied that it didn't seem like anyone else was coming. Instead of bringing us the correct order, she brought us the bill. The experience left us feeling like hypothetical future customers were valued more than the guests who were actually there enjoying a meal and drinks. It was a disappointing experience, especially at a business that advertises itself as dog-friendly and an official World Cup viewing venue.
