Today I had the immense pleasure of trying Sam's Cafe in Ceres for the first time. Why didn't anyone tell me about this place before? I decided to take a friend out for a Christmas lunch. She has had some serious health issues and we used to play in a couple of bands back in the day (last millennium) and always are in need to swap stories. We arrived at Sam's, found parking right outside, and entered. We were immediately seated and our drink order taken. We got coffee for her and my iced tea quite soon thereafter. I noticed that the place was both clean inside and out, a well as busy, and the staff was on keeping it so while we were there. I ordered a bowl of chili (which wasn't on the menu that I could see) just to test them a bit, and asked for the added onions be grilled and then cheese on top of that. They totally nailed it and the chili was delicious. My fellow diner was impressed with her omelette, and remarked a couple of times on the high quality of the coffee (which was refreshed often while we were there). I have to admit to a bias toward these small, mom and pop places as I like the great quality and service I find consistently at them. I highly recommend Sam's and plan to visit the next time I am in the area. read more

This is a gem of a breakfast spot, and we are so glad we found it on a recent trip thru the Central Valley. The hospitality, service and food are all top notch. I came here at 11am on a Monday with a friend of mine. Was not busy at all. I ordered an egg white omelette with no cheese and just ham and a lightly toasted, unbuttered English Muffin. I asked that the omelette not be cooked in butter or oil and they did a good job of making it and it was a good size as well. Came out fast and hot! I ate everything on my plate. I had black coffee to drink and it was good as well, although we had to flag down the waitress a few times for refills (I needed a lot of coffee - full disclosure). My friend had eggs over easy, sausage, hash browns and toast. I didn't get a picture. She said hers was okay. She would have preferred a sausage patty over links. It was nice and quiet inside. Clean and love that it's independently owned. Note: they should go through and trash any plates that have chips in them. Plates aren't that expensive and mine had a small chip in it. It kind of cheapens the place in my opinion. But I would definitely go back! The staff were all very friendly. I tip on the high side and the bill was $35 ($10 tip for the waitress having to deal with my picky food preferences and constant coffee refills, so $45 total). If I lived in Ceres I would be here weekly for sure if not more! read more

Nice little cafe in the Ceres area right off of highway 99. Came here on a Thursday morning around 1030ish and was able to get a table right away. All the workers were very nice with great attitudes and our orders were taken right away. The food is very home style cooking and basic but everything came out very fresh and tasted good. I myself got the Corn beef hash and eggs, my wife got the French toast. Like I said it all tasted good but basic, not necessarily a bad thing if you're just looking for some nice home cooking style food. When I say basic I mean they aren't trying to create crazy style dishes, everything is straightforward (eggs, pancakes, French toast, omelettes, etc.) The food was also good portions and I will say the prices are very fair! I will definitely come back here for a nice easy breakfast. read more

3-21-2026 I've been here many times and have always received great service. But today was much different. It was the first time in 16 years where I didn't leave a tip and I always tip generously. The impression I was given was that she didn't want to wait on me. She had a cold demeanor. She only came to check on me when she slapped the ticket. By that time I was already done eating. She brought 2/3 of my order out. Then she brought another tables order. She forgot to bring me my biscuit and gravy. I had to grab her attention from across the room and then she remembered. The food here is always amazing! Today I had the Chili Cheese Omelette, a jr pancake, and a biscuit with gravy. For my beverages I had orange juice, coffee and ice water. My husband and I have been going to Sam's for 2-3 years now. The food is delicious. Cooked just how you order and comes to the table nice and hot. The staff are friendly and efficient. They make you feel like one of the family. They always greet me by name when I come in. We even ordered food during COVID and it was still tasty and hot "to-go". I totally recommend this place. It's my favorite restaurant in town. I only wish they were open for dinner. We need a diner in town to do dinner with hearty portions of good old American cuisine. Don't get me wrong. This place is amazing! I've been working my way through the menu, but when I tried the corned beef hash I felt like I had found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow! It was incredible! Very tasty and filling cafe. A salute to old school diner flair in a small town. My friend said he passed by last weekend and there was a line of people that we should check it out. I'm always down for breakfast We got lucky, no line but we did wait a but since the small Cafe had no available tables. We checked in at the counter and we're given a table beeper then asked to wait outside. No worries, it didn't take too long once out group of 3 were seated we excitedly checked out the menus. My wife & I were in Ceres today and stopped in at Sam's Cafe. From our first few steps into the Cafe we were greeted with a kind smile by several staff who appeared to enjoy their jobs. Enjoyed breakfast. Great service and good servings. I had pork chops, enough for a moderate hunger. We had French toast very good. Viewed the ham steak breakfast, made for a farmer or lumberjack. Price is more than reasonable. The Cafe is very clean and inviting. This place comes closest to the Ole'Carols Pantry in Crows Landing. Definitely recommend Sams's to all that ask. I only wish they were open a bit later so I can have their breakfast for dinner too! The service is always quick even when the are busy. The wait staff is super nice. I have lived down the block from them for almost 10 years would eat here every meal If I could but I've got bills to pay too. This is one of the best breakfast places in all of America. The food is always freshly made the service is outstanding. I particularly love the chicken fried steak and the hash browns. I recently asked about the country potatoes and I was correct they're freshly made in-house right down to chopping the potatoes and mixing in the seasoning. When I do not have time to pack my lunch for work, I stop at Sam's Cafe and order a to go meal to eat later. It is either a tuna sandwich or a BLT...every time it is simply delicious. The sandwiches are perfectly balanced and for the side, if they have not prepared their fresh daily potato salad I will opt for the classic French fries.
