We are so impressed with Sam's cafe, it will be our new go to for breakfast even though we are 30 min away. The service was outstanding as well as the portions and food! My husband had the 1#ham steak breakfast with pancakes and it was so tender, flavorful and delicious and the pancake was light and fluffy. I had the the veggie omelet with Country potatoes and they were cooked perfectly and the biscuits and gravy were my favorite! The biscuits were light and fluff, just like I like and the gravy was so rich and delicious! We can't wait to go back and eat again, next time we plan on trying the Friday fish and chips and clam chowder! The food here is really good but unfortunately the attitude of some of the staff will make me never want to come back. My fiancé and I came in here today and we noticed that everytime we come in they aren't as attentive and friendly to us as they are to the local regulars. Today I had a coffee from "The Drip" and before they sat us the lady pointed with attitude and told me "first of all we don't allow outside drinks" so I put it back out in the car and sat down. They don't allow outside food and drinks which is fine but the lady that told us we can't have it doesn't need to say it in such a rude tone and manner. She needs to reevaluate her customers service skills cuz she just rubbed me the wrong way. Then after our meal we went to go pay. The same lady that was rude from the beginning was checking us out and she asks if we want to leave a tip. Who asks that? Especially after not getting attended to the whole time after we received our meals. She's lucky my fiancé is nice and left them a tip anyways because if it was me I wouldn't have left anything. This is a small business you would think they would be more welcoming to new customers but they aren't and they make you feel uncomfortable. Like I said the food is good but the customer service leaves much to be desired. There are plenty other awesome small businesses I would rather support. Today I had the immense pleasure of trying Sam's Cafe in Ceres for the first time. Why didn't anyone tell me about this place before? I decided to take a friend out for a Christmas lunch. She has had some serious health issues and we used to play in a couple of bands back in the day (last millennium) and always are in need to swap stories. We arrived at Sam's, found parking right outside, and entered. We were immediately seated and our drink order taken. We got coffee for her and my iced tea quite soon thereafter. I noticed that the place was both clean inside and out, a well as busy, and the staff was on keeping it so while we were there. I ordered a bowl of chili (which wasn't on the menu that I could see) just to test them a bit, and asked for the added onions be grilled and then cheese on top of that. They totally nailed it and the chili was delicious. My fellow diner was impressed with her omelette, and remarked a couple of times on the high quality of the coffee (which was refreshed often while we were there). I have to admit to a bias toward these small, mom and pop places as I like the great quality and service I find consistently at them. I came here at 11am on a Monday with a friend of mine. Was not busy at all. I ordered an egg white omelette with no cheese and just ham and a lightly toasted, unbuttered English Muffin. I asked that the omelette not be cooked in butter or oil and they did a good job of making it and it was a good size as well. Came out fast and hot! I ate everything on my plate. I had black coffee to drink and it was good as well, although we had to flag down the waitress a few times for refills (I needed a lot of coffee - full disclosure). My friend had eggs over easy, sausage, hash browns and toast. I didn't get a picture. She said hers was okay. She would have preferred a sausage patty over links. It was nice and quiet inside. Clean and love that it's independently owned. Note: they should go through and trash any plates that have chips in them. Plates aren't that expensive and mine had a small chip in it. It kind of cheapens the place in my opinion. But I would definitely go back! The staff were all very friendly. I tip on the high side and the bill was $35 ($10 tip for the waitress having to deal with my picky food preferences and constant coffee refills, so $45 total). If I lived in Ceres I would be here weekly for sure if not more! read more

Nice little cafe in the Ceres area right off of highway 99. Came here on a Thursday morning around 1030ish and was able to get a table right away. All the workers were very nice with great attitudes and our orders were taken right away. The food is very home style cooking and basic but everything came out very fresh and tasted good. I myself got the Corn beef hash and eggs, my wife got the French toast. Like I said it all tasted good but basic, not necessarily a bad thing if you're just looking for some nice home cooking style food. When I say basic I mean they aren't trying to create crazy style dishes, everything is straightforward (eggs, pancakes, French toast, omelettes, etc.) The food was also good portions and I will say the prices are very fair! 3-21-2026 I've been here many times and have always received great service. But today was much different. It was the first time in 16 years where I didn't leave a tip and I always tip generously. The impression I was given was that she didn't want to wait on me. She had a cold demeanor. She only came to check on me when she slapped the ticket. By that time I was already done eating. She brought 2/3 of my order out. Then she brought another tables order. She forgot to bring me my biscuit and gravy. I had to grab her attention from across the room and then she remembered. The food here is always amazing! Today I had the Chili Cheese Omelette, a jr pancake, and a biscuit with gravy. For my beverages I had orange juice, coffee and ice water. My husband and I have been going to Sam's for 2-3 years now. The food is delicious. Cooked just how you order and comes to the table nice and hot. The staff are friendly and efficient. They make you feel like one of the family. They always greet me by name when I come in. We even ordered food during COVID and it was still tasty and hot "to-go". I totally recommend this place. It's my favorite restaurant in town. I only wish they were open for dinner. We need a diner in town to do dinner with hearty portions of good old American cuisine. Don't get me wrong. Price is more than reasonable. The Cafe is very clean and inviting. This place comes closest to the Ole'Carols Pantry in Crows Landing.
