I had the opportunity to stop in at Sam's Cafe as they hosted an event with the Ceres Police Department to raise awareness of the Law Enforcement Torch Run that benefits Special Olympics Northern California. The staff was amazing and attentive during non-stop service on a Sunday. Every plate of food that floated by looked delicious, and food was served to eager patrons quickly and tables cleared efficiently for the next in line to be seated. Finding a hair from under my eggs... the manager apologized and was like oh I took that off your bill, umm yeah you're taking that off. I was a bit off about my food but wasn't going to leave a bad review because they over cooked the steak, but after the hair discovery I was like nope. I hate when then you are asked would you like something else made... who the heck has an appetite after finding a hair in their food. That gets me every time I've had this happen. I've worked in the restaurant business and have waitressed so I have been on both sides I get these things can happen the point is should it? It's a very preventable issue VERY preventable.... .... this was our first time we was looking for a new spot and had seen such good reviews but as I said finding a hair is a very preventable thing and sadly she only took my meal off and couldn't even take the 2 coffees off to even begin to try to make it right. read more

Treated as we were minorities, not sure if it's because of our skin color but I'd hope not because Ceres has a high population of different races. Today is Labor Day 9/2/24, wanted to enjoy breakfast with my family. Entered this place fairly early and we were 5. In a booth only fitted 4 we added a chair to the end of the table. All other booth are the same we didn't fit. This place won't accommodate my family of 5. Told us furniture could not be moved. This place would have been nice to try but lost a customer for sure. First time here Great vibe but the gravy for their famous biscuits and gravy is disappointing. Served out of a vat on the counter and is obviously pre-packaged with cut up round sausages in it. Hardly seasoned. Very disappointing.. at least add some flavor to it or try to make it more then packaged gravy. Biscuit was good but the bacon had this weird metallic smell to it (not like bacon) and tasted awful. Was not real bacon - reminded me of microwave bacon.. but at least microwave bacon actually smells and taste like bacon. Best thing on my plate was their country potatoes. She is talking about Casie, "the only Caucasian female" Casie is a favorite among regulars. She is always on the spot with service and fun to talk to. Obviously Syndi M was having a bad day. In looking at most of Syndi M's Yelp's reviews, it appears her name should be Karen, not Syndi. A met a gentleman that recommended Sam's Tuesday October 29th; today is November 2nd and I've already been twice. You can't beat great cafe food with excellent service ! The staffs amazing and makes you feel right at home. Very welcoming. Newly renovated, clean, great prices. Go hungry because portions are huge. One plate can feed a family. When I do not have time to pack my lunch for work, I stop at Sam's Cafe and order a to go meal to eat later. It is either a tuna sandwich or a BLT...every time it is simply delicious. The sandwiches are perfectly balanced and for the side, if they have not prepared their fresh daily potato salad I will opt for the classic French fries. First thing I want to say is that this is the CLEANEST restaurant I have been to in a very long time. I am very impressed! The woman who sat us was very nice and quick to get our drink orders. She did seem to have a hard time hearing me or understanding me, but was very patient (even with my 7yr old) and was all smiles. The woman who was our server.... not so much. She seemed very agitated or maybe overwhelmed. I am not sure but she definitely did not want to be there in my opinion. She took our order, dropped the food off and we never saw her again. We had to ask someone else for napkins and the check. The food was HUGE! We ordered: Sam's Scramble - very large and very filling. The only complaint was the gravy. It is either canned gravy or powdered gravy. Either way there was not much flavor. Added a bunch of salt and pepper and that made it better. Everything else on the plate was good. Chicken Fried Steak and eggs - HOLY COW!!!! I ordered a "half order" and it still had to come out on its own plate!!!! Again, the gravy was meh, but the steak itself was delicious, well seasoned and tender. Eggs and hash browns were prefect! Childs pancake sandwich add chocolate chips - This was not a sandwich. It was eggs and sausage on one plate with the chocolate pancakes on another. Either way, my daughter LOVED it and was happy with her food. 2 Egg breakfast with Country Potatoes - Eggs were cooked perfectly but the potatoes lacked flavor and were a little under done. (still crunchy on some potatoes) but all in all it was good. We will be coming again I am sure. The food was all in all very good and the serving size is enough for you to bring home leftovers for lunch or breakfast the next day. I saw someone with the ham steak while we were there and I can confidently say I will be ordering that next time. All in all this place was well worth the money and a I am so happy we stumbled upon this little gem in Ceres. read more

Do not go here - discriminating and bias! While visiting family in Modesto on Sunday, we stopped by to have breakfast at Sam's. We were a party of eight and wanted to sit together. We were told we could only sit at two tables. A large table became available immediately after we were seated at two separate tables and the waitress said we could move, but the host became confrontational and said no. She argued but did not specify the reason we could not use the larger table, but another party of 6-7 people arrived, and the host told the waitress to put 2 tables together for the new arrival without hesitation, but with us, she had a problem doing that.
