As a former New Mexican, I can say that the carne adovada is divine, smoky pork cooked fork tender in red chile sauce with moderate heat and the portion is huge, must be a pound of meat plus generous sides of excellent pinto beans and rice, all soaked in the rich meat sauce. It is best with house made flour tortillas which is how the dish comes, however I had to order corn to keep it gluten lite. The corn tortillas were average, they do not appear to be house made as they were too uniformly round but that is a minor point. Between hubby and myself this one dish yielded 4 servings of meat for us as we are occasional meat eaters and this was very rich from the rendered pork fat in the sauce. I would prefer less fat and combined with the corn tortillas, makes this a 4 instead of 5 star rating for me, but avid carnivores and keto diet fans will love this meat dish and I will be more than happy to share this dish with someone again as the flavors are credible and carne adovada is hard to find among the sea of Sonoran style restaurants in the Valley. read more

6/13/21 we went to Richardson's for dinner; a few months back we had a excellent dinner. Sadly last night we returned and the service was fair at best. Our waitress forgot completely our salads and served our main courses minus one - so we politely waited for the last plate to arrive. The food - was honestly fair to poor which was really disappointing. For the price it was even more disappointing. Truly an unfortunate experience , bad service and fair to poor food - while the average plate price is about $35 dollars per entree. This restaurant is a hard pass which is so sad because it actually was a gem before. This was my first experience with Richardsons. Maybe it was an off day. I ordered the enchiladas and eggs. Unfortunately the enchiladas were mostly sauce. Our server seem to be a bit distracted. On one of our guests ordered iced tea., the server filled her margarita glass. Then when it was time to pay our tab, we asked for separate bills. "That's not allowed there." Richardson's is a fantastic New Mexican-style diner. I ordered the Taos Combo, and I haven't had anything that good in a long time. It's not authentically New Mexican but more an Arizonan's artistic take on the Land of Enchantment. I went on a Saturday night with no expectations and wasn't expecting it to be so packed. I'll be calling in a reservation next time. I was very lucky because I found a parking spot in the front. They have valet parking too, but I have no idea how much it costs. I had trouble finding the hostess. There's a walkway and a big door next to the valet that seems like the main entrance, but the hostess is behind some double doors obscured under a portico to the side. There are multiple bars inside, and I was lucky to find an open bar stool at one of them. (No tables were abailable.) The bartenders and servers were extremely attentive and didn't stop moving once. The food came out quickly too. The place was loud but not overwhelmingly so. It's also quite dark, so you feel like you're in an antiquated New Mexican tavern lit by candles. They had heaters stationed throughout, and that was very nice too. read more

We have been to Richardson's and the Rokerji many times, at one point Rokerji was our favorite restaurant. Over the past year, this place has gone downhill. Our last visit, my medium rare steak came out well done and the service was very mediocre. We had made a reservation two months prior and towards the end of our $900 meal, were told that they had another reservation for the table and that we needed to hurry up. That is a totally unacceptable thing for a restaurant to do, especially given we had made the reservation so far in advance, spend nearly a grand at dinner, and the waitress hadn't even come to ask about dessert yet. After complaining to the manager on duty, he told us the main manager would give us a call to talk about what happened. They never called and we won't be going back. read more

So last night we took my son out to dinner for his 16th Birthday. He is a big steakhouse fan so we thought of Richardson's being they are known for their delicious steaks. The service is usually something that I've never had an issue with here. Well I would be lying if outside of the food being on point I was Very Unhappy with my experience here last night. So, Manny was our sever and he was kind and knew the menu took the time to go over what his favorite items were and the specials, but sadly he was never there after this. We had ordered some wine and an appetizer to get going and after that we didn't see him for a good 20-30 mins. Now, this was okay being we were looking over the menu talking and having a little bite to eat while enjoying our glass of wine. Well Manny finally came back - we were very much ready to order this time. He let us know at this time that he has a large table and that he wants to make sure he get the order now so that he doesn't get too busy. I was VERY confused by this being - we are also paying customers. I appreciate him letting us know that he might be a little slower but to pretty much tell us that we might just be here with no server because there is a bigger table there. Not the best feeling. Made us feel like because our tip wont be as large we were not as important as the large party (who if you ask me should have had their OWN server) with that all said - After a while Manny came back and let us know that my son's meal and my boyfriends meal were done and ready to serve but Manny had forgotten to tell them to start my pizza. At this point I was like really?!? You tell us that we wont be getting the best service then forget my food? So as I sat there while my son and boyfriend ate their food waiting for mine we were all a little annoyed. This was my sons 16th birthday dinner we took him to a nice place and this is the service. My pizza finally got to the table when they were done, so I ate alone. A different server brought my pizza - I asked him for some red peppers, they came 15 mins after I asked for them and had already finished my dinner, like why even brin them at that point- you already didnt make my meal now im waiting for something for 15 more mins to eat- No Thank you! At this point our server came back we had asked for boxes and the check. (it had been yet again another little while since we saw him we had about 3 other servers bringing us things while he was not around) He brought the check and my boyfriend and I both looked at each other and said "they didn't even offer desert for the birthday?" being it was my son's 16th birthday and WE DID tell them that - I was thinking there would be some kind of offer of desert or something. Manny (as he was walking away to the large table again ) yells back to us about 10-15 feet from then table and said "oh yeah happy birthday" I am extremally disappointed in this service and the fact that a large table was so much more important than us having a nice enjoyable time here, but the most disappointing is taking your 16 year old out for dinner and they dont do a damn thing! I even would have been willing to pay for the desert- But they were too busy for that- What a sad review to write for such a great place. Please note the food was very good and the bottle of wine was tasty. The service on the other hand- Friendly is good but being neglectful is not. They should have done something for my son's 16th or I wouldn't have brought him here. Outstanding and amazing as always. This local gem has been a valley staple forever. All of the restaurants: Richardson's, Dicks Hideaway, Rokerij and now Rosie's. This is the place we take our out of town guests to. Its our show off restaurant. The New Mexico cuisine is innovative yet somewhat traditional. All four of the restaurants have ambiance that is incomparable. Service is impeccable. The presentation of the food is so so fabulous and creative. Hands down, favorite brunch place in town. Dark and cozy, the best place to start AND end your weekend. The stellar service, drinks, and food are second to none. So many great dishes and they are very accommodating to customizations/modifications. Come hungry, leave satisfied! Also, during COVID-19, dining at Richardson's has been a very good experience. We feel extremely safe and cared for due to the precautions taken around physical distancing, cleaning, and masking. Erich at the bar is very considerate and politely reminds clients to adhere to the mask policy. The pasta was definitely the worst of the dishes we had because it seemed as if the noodles were sitting in just water in the bowl. The Chile relleno and the enchiladas were both over cheesed. My wife and I visited Richardson for Valentines. The staff were absolutely fantastic. Our server was prompt, knowledgeable, and never left a glass empty. I order the prime rib special with Brussel sprouts and a loaded potato. The steak came out with the perfect temperature that was ordered and was so so flavorful. The brussel sprouts were tasty as was the loaded potato. My wife order a seafood dish that was similar to scampi and she wanted scallops. The server made it happen and she got her scallops. The seafood was cooked to perfection and was amazing, You will not leave here hungry. A reservation was made outside in the Richardson's area. It easily sat 10 people, but the tables where we were (near the fireplace) seemed more suited for drinks than for dinner since the tables sat very low, and by low I mean it was at par with the benches and chairs. I loved the ambiance though. It was a great spot for an intimate dinner, a date, or just chilling with friends. The service was on the slower side, but I think it was because we were a larger party that it took a long time to get our drinks and order the food. We started with a couple appetizers. Let me just preface by saying the portions here are so large appetizers are unnecessary, and in fact, probably mute. Anyways, we had the carne asada fries, the some toast thay was covered in chicken, cheese and ham. Both were quote tasty. For my main, I ordered the stuffed chicken ($26), without the sauce since I read a review that the entree was really spicy. I attributed it to the Sriracha sauce, so I got it on the side. The chicken was stuffed with spinach, sun dried tomatoes and asiago cheese and also came with side dish and potato, as well as a salad. I chose broccollini and brussel sprouts (in lieu of a potato). The salad was dime-sized, so it could easily been shared. It was full of toppings, so I didn't even need dressing. They definitely didn't skimp on the cranberries, nuts, tomatoes, and cheese. The chicken was pretty good but a little drier than I preferred my chicken. I think it would have been tasteless had it not been for being stuffed. I tried some of my friend's prime rib ($55), and that thing was ginormous! It was a 20 oz bone-in but it was the size of a tomahawk. It was topped with cheese and was also good, but I felt like it lacked a little something I can't quite identify. It was a beautiful medium rare though and super thick. While all the entrees were large enough to be split, they did charge $10 to split a plate. Personally, if you came with 2 people, I would order an entree and an appetizer and just share between the 2. Or just order 2 entrees and take some grub home! Great ambiance for special occasions and required face masked when you entered. They practiced physical distancing pretty well. Place is bomb dot com Must visit when in Phoenix In my top five joints Long before Yelp or the Travel Channel, my go to source for finding the best places to check out when travelling was a book called "Eat Your Way Across the USA." I think this was only one of two places in Arizona that the book featured. Went to Richardson's for the first time in probably the late 90's or early 2000's and have been hooked ever since. It is among my absolute most favorite restaurants. A couple years back, the original location was destroyed by fire. This was my first time in the new location which is right around the corner from the original spot. The interior looks almost exactly like the old location. They now have mandatory valet, though, which I am not crazy about. In the past, I have gotten the huevos rancheros and the enchiladas. Best I have ever had for both. Today, I got the Trio which was Swordfish, Salmon and Mahi Mahi. Came on a tortilla with asparagus and carrots. Outstanding! They have five dollar mimosas, bellinis, and bloody marys during brunch hours. Had one mimosa and one bellini. I wish I had just come to Richardson's straight from the airport when I arrived last Tuesday. It is that freaking good! read more

Decided to give this spot a try! When we called they told us we couldn't make reservations for 2 and to just come in. When we arrived, they said seating for 2 is only available in the bar areas, which no problem however staff seemed to be very confused on where the available areas are so we found ourselves pretty frustrated. We ended up at the main bar and enjoyed a quiet dinner, the Chile rellenos are definitely a must try and I have to say the rice was delicious. The carne asada fries were also delicious. I stopped going to Richardson's given all the staff turnover and lack of quality service a few years ago, but we decided to return for carry-out as one doesn't have to deal with the inside dynamics. We both ordered the chili rellenos plates and they're as good as we remember. We got the order w rice and beans--honestly, it is two meals for most people. I also got a side house salad which is delicious and enough for two people as well. Given the portion sizes and price, Richardson's is a good value and their curb-side pick-up during COVID is a real plus. read more

I came here again with a previous co-worker for lunch. We were able to sit outside on a beautiful cool Thursday afternoon. The service was great and the place was very clean. We ordered the following: Chips and Salsa ($3): it came with 3 different salsas. Pico De Gallo, Tomatillo, and Habanero (it was mild though). It was very good. The blue and yellow corn chips were warm, light and crispy. The salsas were great but I wished the Habanero had a stronger kick. Blue Wedge Salad with Cajun Chicken ($9): The chicken was great, it was moist, tender and very flavorful. However it had tortilla strips and black bean salsa, so it should have been called the "Tex-Mex Blue Wedge Salad with Chicken". It didn't come with Blue Cheese Crumbles only blue cheese dressing with very little blue cheese crumbles. Cuban Sandwich ($9): last time I had a Cuban sandwich was at Porto's in Burbank, CA. Porto's Cuban sandwich had very thinly sliced ham, pork, Swiss cheese in a delicious flatten sandwich. However, the Cuban Sandwich had 1/2 inch thick ham, roast pork and a green sauce and a Swiss cheese (see picture). They should have renamed this the "Thick Cut Cuban Sandwich". My visit was good, but I will definitely try another restaurant when I'm in Phoenix, AZ again. read more

Very very disappointed. I want to start out by saying this is my girlfriends favorite restaurant. So being her birthday, having family in from out of town (New Mexico), and getting people to come out for the first time since Covid we were excited. Made reservations a week early for 8 on the patio in the big table so we all have room. (A couple guest were distant and outside conscious. When we got there we found out that they sat the table for another birthday party minutes before we arrived. So after about 10 minutes of scrambling David it was either the manager or a bartender did all he could with putting us in a private room in the very back of Rokerij their sister restaurant. We were waiting on guests to arrive for about 30 minutes so just drinks until they came. In 45 minutes I got one ice tea and a total of 3 in the 1hr n 45 we were there. They gave us a young server in which we asked one of the busybody for him they said he will be back in a minute that he was bartending. So David came in and help us out again. Knowing it was her Bday with all the gifts our server gives us our check and we had to ask for dessert menu. When it was all said and done with 8 of us and as much as we spent we were told that they can't split checks we have to figure it out. Like I said Very Very disappointed. After figuring out how were going to split it we left. I thanked David fir really the only help we got. Big enough staff there no matter how busy they were we should not have sacrificed. Kiddos to the Kitchen. Food was spot on out of this world like always. But when your paying this much for food good service really needs to be a focal point. Very apprehensive on parties larger than my gf and myself. Richardson's is New Mexican Cuisine and is similar to Mexican and Tex Mex but is slightly different. The Big Things here are the Potato stuffed green chile and the do you want Red or Green Chile Sauce question. I tried the Santa Fe Chicken. It came out on a very large ornate silver platter. I have to say everything on my plate was delicious! The chicken was pecan grilled and was very moist and flavorful. It was topped with sautéed mushrooms and Jalapeño hollandaise sauce and served over tasty garlic toast. It was delicious as it was but I though it was shy with the jalapeño. I had my choice of side and went with the house specialty Potato stuffed Green Chile. It had some heat to it but not too much and was delicious. Also on my plate was a very large salad that was mostly cheese. For me it was WHEY too much cheese but the salad was fresh and lightly dressed with a very thin white dressing. My husband tried the New Mexican Enchiladas. He had a trio of pork, chicken and beef Christmas Style with Red and Green Chile Sauce also filling the plate was rice and beans. He said everything was seasoned nice and everything tasted different and his plate was also very generous with LOTS OF CHEESE. This is one of the closest representations of NEW Mexican food in the valley. It fell short in a couple areas. 1. Chili bean serving was gigantic on the two entres we ordered (see pics) chili relleno and adovada and eggs. 2. The red chili decently came from New Mexico I would even venture to say Hatch. I travel to Phoenix frequently, and bring guests to dine here at one of the Richardson's family of restaurants pretty much every visit. People love the food, even locals are surprised and pleased by the whole package including the food. I usually steer newcomers to two dishes; the Carne Adovada and the Pork Mole. This time around I was disappointed to learn that the Pork Mole had been taken off the menu, but pressed on assuring people that the Adovada would be spicy and awesome. While the Adovada delivered on flavor, there was simply no spice present. I'm used to this dish being unapologetically spicy, but this time around at Richardson's it didn't register as even mildly spicy. I'm hoping to visit Dick's next time around, and hope this was an aberration. Bring back the Spice, and you'll get five stars again...Bring back the mole and I'll double down on the review. read more
