First time at The Toasted Owl Cafe. We arrived at 10:30 on a Saturday morning and it was 3/4 full. We were directed to a table in the center of the restaurant and given menus and water. They had a very unique menu at Toasted Owl, with many items cleverly named after the bodacious birds. My wife got the Three Tacos plate, my daughter got a gluten free blueberry pancake and soy chorizo, her husband got the Owl 66 and I got the 'Owlapeno Scramble'. The entire restaurant was decked out in owl decor, from the menus, clocks, glasses, wall decorations, cookie jars and trinkets, just to name a few. Everything in there was also available for purchase. Everything at the table was scrumptious in the most satisfying way. My scramble was so satisfying, with the cheese and pickled jalapeños and the three poppers on top. The breakfast potatoes were so savory, seasoned just right and the huge flour tortilla and salsa were all perfectly complimenting. We each ordered drinks that came in owl mason jars, which we bought for $2 each. What a hidden gem for breakfast, brunch or lunch. read more

What an experience. The Reuben should probably be renamed the "Sauerkraut Sandwich." It featured approximately two slices of pastrami heroically trying to survive beneath a mountain of sauerkraut. The egg sandwich came on bread that looked like it lost a fight with a flamethrower. When my food arrived with the wrong side, the waitress's solution was, "I guess I can have them make you some onion rings." The enthusiasm was truly inspiring and a testimate to the industry. Speaking of service, our server spent so much time MIA I wasn't sure if she actually worked there or was just passing through. Then came the gift shop adventure. I bought 6 adoarable Toasted Owl branded cups, only to be told after I paid that they were used. Since buying previously owned & used restaurant drinkware isn't really my thing, I asked for a refund. The response? "Unfortunately, you already paid for them." I'm not in the tech industry, but I was under the impression someone had invented a way for money to travel in both directions. I think they call it... a refund. If you're looking for burnt toast, a sauerkraut mountain, surprise used merchandise, and customer service that's more of a rumor than a reality, this is your place. Very low key, relaxed vibe off a busy street. Service reflects this as the staff chatted while I waited to be seated in a 25% full dining room. They were nice but I knew they knew I stood there a few minutes before they greeted me. At least they were pleasant. Just zero sense of urgency. Food is generous in portions but pretty standard. Canned corned beef.... I didn't feel rushed and probably couldn't even if I tried. It was good, just not sure I'd go back. Not MY vibe. read more

I tried out a prosciutto & brie omelette and paid $3.50 extra to replace the toast with one huge pancake. At the time of this writing, this chain of restaurants is partnered with the InKind app which can get you 20%-35% discounts. My food cost me $20ish which includes the tax, discount, and tip. I was really excited to try this place for my birthday today . We sat down to eat wait for 10 minutes and in that time the "manager" passed us 3 times not once asking if we want a drink or check on us. Whooot! Goodness me! Toasted Owl is fantabulous! Our group of 10 feasted on some quite magnificent breakfasts earlier today. Not only were they magnificent, they were HUGE! The coffee was pretty darn tootin' too. Certainly gave me a buzz. Great atmosphere and decorations inside. Can't believe I lived here for so long and NEVER frequented. I came in on a Wednesday morning and was the only customer but still felt rushed. I do want to preference that I'm not from Arizona so maybe this is typical for service standards but I wasn't told of any specials or given any recommendations. Pretty much just handed a menu and given two minutes to decide what to order. The actual establishment is super cute and all the owl decorations are adorable. I've been a regular at this cute restaurant for many years, predominantly for brunch, and never had a bad experience. The food is always perfect, and I love that there are many vegetarian options. Love the owl theme and all the trinkets everywhere. Service is consistently good. It's a very cute place, and I always hop over to Changing Hands Bookstore after eating to browse around. Service was great -- super friendly. The space is also really nice, and the attached bookstore was a fun bonus to browse while we waited. Food was just okay. It came out pretty fast, which was nice, but it felt a little rushed. I got the avocado toast and was expecting something crispy and toasty... but it was basically avocado on soft, untoasted bread. I met with some friends for brunch before work and we had to try this spot out! This has been on my list to visit for a long time and it did not disappoint! Family raved about this café in Tucson so I was delighted to see one in Phoenix close to favorite shops (Dollar Tree and Target!). The décor is interesting. Obviously, owls are prominent in their decorating scheme but everything (including the overhead lights) has a price tag on it. It's a very colorful, noisy, casual atmosphere. We got the best of both worlds on a mild Saturday morning when we were seated right next to the patio in a wide doorway that kept the shade on us but let us enjoy the fresh air. The menu has a wide variety of breakfast /lunch items that appear to take most dietary restrictions into consideration. I had a really tasty beet salad that combined beets, blueberries, cherries and goat cheese over some fresh greens. My guest had the fried chicken sandwich and some of her French Fries. I had been to the Flag location several years ago and was super excited to have a location a bit closer to tucson! While in phx for a late sunday concert- we absolutely needed yummy body fuel the next morning! My gal pal is vegan so this was a no-brainer pick for us since they have a dedicated vegan menu! As a non-veg I still ordered the vegan chorizo burrito because it is THAT good! Packed with veggies (carrots, Brussels, zucchini, and more), just egg, soyrizo, and perfectly seasoned potatoes into a vegan tortilla! AMAZING! My sis and I worked at the first draft book bar and we wanted some breakfast so we went to toasted owl cafe! Since it was a Friday morning it was not too busy. Everyone was so nice and attentive even just ordering take out. We got the fried egg sandwich and oh my goodness! The bacon was so crispy in all the right ways, the mayo on the bread wasn't overwhelming, the egg was cooked just right... it was the perfect breakfast sandwich. The potato wedges were also crispy and seasoned very well! The inside was inviting and clean, would be a good spot to come back to for a sit down brunch since their mimosas are also just $7. Also while waiting for the sandwich, they asked if we wanted anything to drink which was just really kind of them. This is my go-to breakfast spot whenever I'm in Flagstaff and I was super excited to see a Phoenix location open! I actually like this location better than the one I've been to in Flagstaff. The inside is open and there are large windows with tons of natural light. I love all the cute and unique owl decor- which just FYI you can purchase. Absolutely loved the atmosphere and the food here! If you love owls, you will love this place. The entire restaurant is decorated with owl art and owl kitsch. Only detracting factor was that the service was rather slow. Our server was really nice and certainly trying but seemed a little scattered. We had coffee, which was okay and shared an order of the almond hot cakes. These were excellent! They were so good, we even tried to go back here later another day when we were in the area but they close at 3 and we missed out. These things are huge. One could easily feed two people and we ordered two thinking that they were small. We ended up taking one home which we enjoyed another day with some hot chocolate. I also got the breakfast tamales which were excellent. All the menu options have some sort of owl name or theme which is cute. You can purchase some cute merchandise as well such as hats and tee shirts but it is rather expensive for what it is. Still, they got me, I love owls! Also it's close to a nice independent bookstore so you can browse there while waiting for a table. If there is a line they will text you when a table is ready. I went for breakfast on New Year's day with a friend. We ordered a cinnamon roll to share which was delicious. It had just the right amount of sweetness. It is large and we couldn't finish it. The price for it was also great. I had the classic egg breakfast. It came with potatoes, bread of your choice, and a meat. Everything was cooked and seasoned to perfection. The service by our waiter was outstanding. He wss very friendly and attentive. The vibe inside is fun. They have a pretty good vegan menu, I'm just dairy free and our server knew which things had dairy and which things didn't, so I was able to get my favorite dish modified slightly. Invited a new friend to this restaurant. It is the 2nd time I have been here and it was just as amazing as the first time. We sat in the main area where the windows are floor to ceiling. This area gets a little warm when the sun is direct but when it gets behind the tree it is perfect. The restaurant is well staffed and the food is amazing. The ingredients are so fresh. I am very picky about my vegetables being cooked just right and it is done well here. The atmosphere is very relaxing and not very noisy even with many people in the room. The new friend that came was raving about her dish as well. She also loved the owl decor and plans to come back soon. I definitely recommend this Cafe for a nice visit. read more

I have had breakfast at The Toasted Owl in Flagstaff afew years ago and saw they have a restaurant in Phoenix . I thought this would be a good opportunity to try it out with a friend . My friend had the Fried egg sandwich ( over medium) with tomato, mayo,marble rye , and breakfast potatoes. He really enjoyed it. I had Breakfast Tamales. One Beef and one Vegetarian tamale with black beans, scramble eggs, cheese , greens under the tamales, and green Chile sauce. I thought it was delicious. Our server was pleasant and very thorough. The restaurant is a little far from Surprise but worth the trip. If I'm in the mood for breakfast tamales I will make a special trip to "The Owl". read more

6/14/25: Short version - wow, who knew you could pack such greatness into a small restaurant! A wonderful experience was had. Small sized restaurant (max 84 capacity), well laid out (not cramped); a very extensive menu, plus a separate vegan menu; fast & friendly service; delicious breakfast with tasty cocktails; and more parking than I expected from the drive-bys we've done. Long version - there's a Saturday farmers market a mile north of Toasted Owl but nothing there struck our fancy so we did a Google search for breakfast in the area. So glad to have come across Toasted Owl, not even realizing it was part of The Newton place (an entertainment venue) -- a place we drove by numerous times & were always struck by its uniqueness. There is a nice sized lot on the east side that was mostly beautifully shaded this particular morning with some gorgeous landscaping. To our surprise, there is a much larger lot on its north side (less shaded). We had no idea there were so many places at The Newton. We walked in close to 8 am, seeing only a few tables occupied. When you walk in, expect to be surrounded by owls of all shapes, sizes, colors, and even textures. Pictures, ceramics, macrame, wall paintings, and tee shirts. There is some lovely vintage lighting throughout. We were able to seat ourselves and our server, Jordan, came by quickly with water, then returned a couple minutes later for our drink orders. Jordan was friendly, fast, and attentive. There was another gentleman there at the time, who also came over a few times (I took him for the manager). Both he & Jordan were chatting it up with other tables, and as more patrons came in, I heard them addressed as "welcome, friends". What a nice, warm touch of courtesy! Beverages: they have cocktails, Coke products, juices, coffees & teas. We ordered the Cinnamon Screech Owl & The Great Horned Punch + an extra $2 each for the take home owl glasses. Jordan laughed along with us when we asked if the owl glasses entitled us to free refills. Anyhoo, the drinks. Wowza! Let me say, they did not skimp on the liquor in those cocktails; it was well worth the money. Both drinks were thoroughly enjoyed & would be bought again in a heartbeat. I was overjoyed to see the paper straws vs plastic, which gave me hopes that their take-home containers would also be compostable (sadly, they were not). Food: the giant cinnamon roll came out hot, fluffy, and was not overburdened with frosting, it had just the right amount. The prosciutto & brie omelet was delicious & hefty, so much in fact that I couldn't eat it all & saved half of it for later. The cheese was wonderfully melted, the rye bread toast was thick (although it could have been slightly more toasted), and the potatoes that came with were fantastically seasoned. No ketchup needed. My sister's French toast was also thick & she devoured it. All in all, The Toasted Owl is a wonderfully fun place and we will definitely go back, trying different menu items. I love the glass walls that make the place look bigger. They sat us right away. Very interesting menu. Everything is an owl. Even the coffee mugs are one offs with different logos and designs. Feels homey. I ordered the biscuits and gravy with eggs. I barely ate 1/3 of it. It's because the portion sizes are gigantic. I was with 5 baseball players and nobody finished their food. It was quite comical actually. Prices are reasonable. We'd definitely come back here, but make sure you fast the day before. LOL. read more

I went with the Build-a-Breakfast Bowl with chopped ham and swapped the flour tortillas for corn. Honestly, I wouldn't order it again. The eggs and potatoes were cooked well and tasted great, but the veggies were not what I expected--kind of a random mix with carrots, Brussels, broccoli, and zucchini. Not the flavors I would put in a breakfast dish. We also tried their giant cinnamon roll, and that was a much better move. It was light and fluffy with a nice texture, though I do wish it had a bit more frosting to finish it off. Their coffee was solid--hot and smooth, nothing fancy but did the job. Would I drive 1 hour to this place, yes I would and did. They have 2 menus - regular menu and then a vegan one so that a person with a dairy allergy can enjoy a full selection of breakfast items without missing out! Brought our kids this time and they were enamored. The owner himself was waiting at the front to seat people and he's happy to see you. You'll find so many different types of people dressed different ways and it just makes the atmosphere so welcoming. There's adorable owl decor of anything you can think of everywhere and it's all neat, clean and for sale!
