Very interesting menu, soups& salads, Mexican specialties and breakfasts! Decided on the Sampler breakfast. Came with 2 perfectly cooked eggs over medium, 3 generous slices of quality crisp bacon, a berry pancake and toasted bakery bread. All ingredients were high quality, and cooked perfectly. Just a little recommendation, I wish there was the option for something other than the bread. Since I had the pancake, didn't need more carbs on the plate. I've been to Otro Cafe several times and always love the vibe, and the food is consistently delicious. That said, my last two visits haven't been as great when it comes to cleanliness. The floors needed attention, the bathrooms weren't very clean, and the biggest issue was the number of flies and gnats. On my most recent visit, it was enough that I considered leaving, but I was with a large group on a Friday night so we stayed. After dinner, we stopped by the cafe next door and noticed gnats on some of the open-air pastries. I mentioned it and asked if there were any packaged options, but didn't really get a response. I'm sharing this because I genuinely enjoy this spot and want to see it stay great. Finally had the opportunity to stop by Otro Cafe during a lunch break! There is some parking in the front and a lot more in the back of the building. As it was a weekday late morning, I was able to snag front parking! Upon entering, the right side of the space is the full-service restaurant and the left side of the space is a casual-service coffee/ice cream shop. I was looking for a coffee shop experience and only explored the left side. I knew I wanted to try one of their specialty lattes and asked the barista what the most popular and sweetest options were. The cajita latte fulfilled both of what I was looking for! I opted for the largest 20 oz size, iced but lite ice, made with the default whole milk. It had a strong coffee taste and caffeine kick but was sweetened by dulce de leche that also lined the cup. Delicious and unique! Of note, they do not accept tap pay and are cash or card only tentatively until around December 2025! I sat at the very right side of the bar area, with ample counter space and comfy bar stools but no outlets for charging. There is an individual bathroom right next to the bar. There is free wifi but no sign for the password, so you must ask the barista. For some reason, the wifi didn't work for me at all during my stay, so I used my phone's hotspot - not sure if this was a coincidence or regular occurrence. Otro Cafe (a sister cafe to the fantastic Gallo Blanco) is awesome! The atmosphere is casual with some pretty tile work, Mexican style carved benches, and lots of great artwork on the walls. There is a nice patio with colorful umbrellas in the back and a full bar. Otro Cafecito, a cool little coffee house with pastries, ice cream, and a laid-back atmosphere with some sofas and tables is off to one side. We were seated inside immediately. There were so many good things on the menu that I found it hard to choose. We started with the chips and salsa. The chips were nice and crunchy. I ordered a carne asada torta. It was amazing. The carne asada had a fabulous char flavor, and the bread was so good. It was crispy inside. I think it was buttered and grilled. Either way, it was super yummy. Hubby ordered the Pica Rica hamburger. It had roasted green chili, caramelized onion, cheddar cheese, and a really yummy aioli. Hubby can be quite picky when it comes to burgers, and he said this one was perfect - great toppings but not overpowered by the toppings. It was served with huge, crispy potato wedges. Delish! As good as the food, our server, Monique, was a little ball of sunshine! I commented about her cute apron, and she told me all about it. It felt like talking to a friend. Servers like Monique make all the difference in a dining experience. There is nothing to hate and everything to love about Otro Cafe. It is well worth the drive from Mesa for a meal here. read more

We were seated immediately (always a beautiful thing), and the patio is genuinely lovely and cozy. Juan was our server and absolutely nailed it: attentive, friendly, and somehow always there exactly when we needed him. Let's get into the drinks, because Otro clearly understood the assignment: Guajava (honeydew bourbon, guava, lemon, bitters): Bourbon-forward but not punch-you-in-the-face bourbon-forward. The guava keeps it balanced without tipping into sweet territory, which I truly appreciate in a world that loves a sugar bomb. Bird of Paradise (400 Conejos mezcal, banana, lime, coconut water): I was deeply suspicious of banana and mezcal together, but consider me converted! The banana is subtle and smooths out the mezcal beautifully, the coconut just hangs out providing tropical background vocals, and the smoked salt rim pulls everything together with a smoky, salty mic drop. My favorite of the day. My husband's drinks (aka the ones I stole sips of): Paloma (blanco tequila, chile, grapefruit Jarritos, lime): Bright, tart, and refreshing in the best way. The grapefruit flavor is delicate, the chile adds just enough interest, and the Jarritos gives it a bubbly twist that works shockingly well. La Gringa (cucumber basil vodka, coconut, lime, chile): I'm not a cucumber fan and almost wrote this off immediately, but the coconut absolutely saves the day. Light, balanced, and way better than expected. Credit where credit is due. Food time: Side of linguica: Smoky, lightly spicy, split and grilled with a perfect char. The casing had the ideal snap and it was gloriously greasy in exactly the way you want it to be. 12/10. No notes. Order it. Sampler Breakfast (2 eggs, flapjack, chorizo, house-made flour tortillas): We upgraded the flapjack to the famed cajeta version with sliced banana, crème fraîche, and cajeta caramel (skipped the candied peanuts). Asked for scrambled eggs and they scrambled the chorizo into the eggs, absolute HEROES. The chorizo is bold and flavorful, and both house sauces are excellent. The green sauce especially is bright and fresh, with cilantro doing the heavy lifting. The tortillas were warm, soft, and perfectly flavored, basically what Mission tortillas dream of being when they grow up. Important announcement: DO NOT SLEEP ON THE FLAPJACKS. Hands down the best pancake I've ever had. Light, fluffy, smelled unreal. I barely noticed the cajeta and did not care even a little. We are not sweet-breakfast people, and I still would've ordered another if I wasn't already full of perfectly golden brown and delicious happiness. Bottom line: Great food, beautifully balanced cocktails, excellent service, and a patio that makes you want to stay longer than planned. Otro Cafe it's was decorated nice but I'm very disappointed the service I value my time, especially on my day off when I choose to support a local restaurant and try something new. Unfortunately, my experience at Otro Cafe was extremely disappointing, not because of the food, but because of how customers are treated. We checked in at 12:23 PM and were quoted a 30 minute wait. We were given a buzzer and waited in our car directly in front of the restaurant. After 50 minutes with no notification, I went inside around 1:15 PM to check. I was told it was "not our turn yet." After confirming we had already been waiting close to an hour, we noticed our name had already been crossed off the waiting list. Instead of acknowledging the mistake, the staff told us to "just wait" and that we would be next. We patiently waited another 20 minutes ,only to watch multiple parties get seated ahead of us again. When I approached the host a second time, we were finally seated at 1:40 PM over an hour after check-in and the interaction felt dismissive and unfriendly. Delays can happen. Systems can fail. But professionalism is shown in how a mistake is handled. There was no apology, no ownership, no effort to correct the situation. Instead, the issue was subtly shifted onto us because the buzzer "didn't ring," as if that was somehow the customer's responsibility. Respecting customers means respecting their time. What should have been a simple 30 minute wait turned into over an hour and a half of confusion, frustration, and being overlooked. That is not acceptable service. Heard amazing things about Otro for brunch, and honestly? The hype is real. The classic Mexican breakfast with chorizo, eggs, and beans had me questioning why I ever cook at home. Guac and salsa for the table? Also v yum. They make a mean espresso martini (dangerously smooth at 11am) and have a solid beer selection if you want to pretend it's not still brunch. But the real star? The honey lavender latte. Truly the gentlest, most soothing hug in beverage form. I'd wait in line again just for that. Speaking of waits--Saturday with a party of five was surprisingly chill, maybe 10 minutes max. Only downside: you still have to hop in a separate line to order those specialty coffees even when seated. No biggie, but why does it take so long? We dined on a Saturday for brunch, which makes the limited plaza parking a bit troublesome but we thankfully carpooled. This alone usually will stop me from picking a spot for brunch. My friends raved about the coffee, which was a great start to the meal and I hoped the food would follow suit. Unfortunately, we had a couple deterrents from rating this location higher (3 stars). For starters, there were numerous flies that kept trying to land on us and the food. I know it's common in the summer, but dampers the mood if swatting away flies. Additionally, the dining room is very loud which tends to steer me away from returning to places; as well as the service was a little slow though expected on a busy brunch day. As for the food and beverages, I really enjoyed the coffee to start with an orange mimosa to cheers the end of the meal. I ordered the sampler which had a great pancake but overall the dish was pretty bland. I would definitely pick a different dish if I returned. My friends didn't like their food and one barely touched theirs. A shame as I wanted to like this place, but I've enjoyed other brunch locations more. read more

I was in town for a few days for work and wanted to grab breakfast. I was thinking of two of my go-to spots, Matt's Big Breakfast or Harlows. But then I saw posts about Otro and thought I'd try something new. It was a great decision. The service was excellent and the food was delicious! I went with the Sampler breakfast. It includes one of their trademark flapjacks, two eggs, potatoes, toast or flour tortilla (my choice) and your choice of protein (I picked chorizo). I also added a side of frijoles so I could essentially make little breakfast tacos. I would definitely go back here when I'm in town. Great spot! read more

Great spot to get some work done, meet with friends for a coffee or sit down for a full service experience! I will be coming back to try their food but just alone their chocolate conchas are worth a visit. When you walk in, the full service area is to the right and there's a hostess available but if you're there for a quick treat/ hang out then go to the left and grab a coffee at the counter. The pastries are made there fresh every morning. I tried the iced cajeta latte and even though I did a quad shot, it tasted very "milky". Wasn't a fan and I love cajeta. Next time, I'll try a different coffee as they have a large variety! Service was great and was able to find a seat at the bar to work from for a couple hours. Came for a daddy daughter valentines date. My daughters given parameters were either breakfast or Mexican food and well otro has both all day so thankfully it made me look like an awesome dad. Came and was seated very quickly with a ton of friendly faces. We got some water I grabbed a beer on happy hour and we also received some chips and salsa. Looked over the menu and I landed on a few tacos while my daughter was eying the breakfast burrito. She isn't a fan of chorizo but thankfully you can customize pretty much anything, so she asked to substitute the barbacoa for the chorizo. Continued plowing through the chips and salsa until our food arrived, when it did I smashed the tacos, very good the shrimp was extremely flavorful and tender not over cooked. GET THE BARBACOA! It is absolutely worth the added cost. I love barbacoa and usually order it whenever I get the chance. Between the two dishes since we got the barbacoa on the chilaquiles, we just got the chicken on the trio enchilada. The barbacoa here is by far the best barbacoa I've ever tasted. I am salivating just writing about the barbacoa. I know this is a chilaquiles dish but no, the barbacoa is the main and everything else is just a side to it. I'm coming back to get the barbacoa tacos, barbacoa torta, barbacoa burrito, barbacoa bowl. Hell if they put barbacoa between two buns i'll get the barbacoa burger. Everything the barbacoa is paired with just makes that bite so much more enjoyable. Anyways, I also got the trio enchilada with chicken. It comes with 3 sauces a red, green, and mole. You can't combo with carne (hidden item) and barbacoa unfortunately. And since we got barbacoa for the chilaquiles, I decided to get a baseline with the chicken. It's alright, but I wish I got the barbacoa. Also, I learned I don't like mole, it's not a fault of this dish but I already had an idea I didn't like savory chocolate. It is an acquired taste, I have not acquired. Overall the places was very nice, there's plenty of parking, and the staff was very friendly. We live a walkable distance to Otro but for some reason hadn't found our way to brunch until this past weekend; it sounds like we missed out on pre-pandemic deals (kids used to eat FREE?!?!) but Otro is still killing it! Wait time was about 15-20 minutes on a Saturday, which seemed quite reasonable when considering typical brunch wait times around the Valley. We ended up getting the Barbacoa and Eggs and the Consuelo Del Sur. I initially thought Consuelo Del Sur was kind of like biscuits and gravy based on the description, but that is NOT the case - it's more like a heap of different types of meats, beans, potatoes, salsas and eggs. The linguica sausage is quite spicy! Biggest highlight of the menu to me, though, was the kids menu. It's great when a restaurant decides to feed kids actual food and not just starch. On top of that, the prices are stellar! Our waiter told us that the kids menu actually used to be entirely free pre-pandemic; now it's just heavily discounted. We ended up getting the $3 Kid's Egg Breakfast (scrambled egg, a piece of bacon and noble bread toast) and the $5 Mia's Bean Burrito. Our 1 year old LOVED the burrito. It was her first bean burrito and certainly won't be her last. The El Nino Tacos aren't available until 11A but also looked like a great choice. We'll be back! read more

Pretty bummed to be writing this, but as this restaurant has risen in popularity, its overall experience has declined. My husband and I have loved Otro and have been regulars for almost 10 years. Unfortunately, with their new location that opened, a lot of the amazing staff went there, and it shows. We went in on a weekend day expecting a wait, we're given a 25 minute wait time (said we were open to sit at the bar if it came up). We sat down on a bench right across from the front desk so we saw all that was going on and it was a whole lot of nothing. I've never seen such little urgency from an entire group of people during a busy Saturday morning rush. Our wait ended up being 50 minutes and we watched people from a party of 8 waiting for a table, go up to bar seats and order drinks and stand there taking up space they should not have been. Then other people came in after us and were sat at the bar. We literally heard the hostess ask people who just came in if they wanted to sit at the bar. It was blasphemous. Once we sat down, it took us 10 minutes to be greeted by the most unfriendly server. I was surprised to see her as she used to be one of the hostesses. How she got promoted, I will never know. She was just as unfriendly at the front desk and she was to us as a server. Since it took so long, we ordered everything. We even jokingly made a bet on the order of how everything would come out: 1. Our guacamole appetizer 2. Our meals 3. Our drinks I bet you see where this is going. It took 5 minutes to get chips with no salsa. Once the guacamole came out, we asked the friendlier food runner if we could get some salsa and plates. There was no apology on how long our drinks took and we were sitting at the booth that looked right at the drink well and the bartenders who also had no urgency. It seemed like the bartenders are also making non alcoholic drinks like hot tea?! Don't quote me on that, but there were a bunch of fancy kettles and drinks that didn't look alcoholic in the well that seemed to slow them down a lot, but man, drinks should never take that long, and bartenders shouldn't have to worry about making hot tea. Our servers other tables were extremely neglected with empty iced teas and plates long sitting at the end of tables. I wasn't even sure who the manager was that day, but whoever it was, either did not staff correctly, was not supporting their staff, or do not have enough staff in general. Pretty disappointed in the overall decline in service here. The food is always amazing and has kept us coming back, but we may be avoiding the weekend crowd as they do not know how to handle it. read more
