A buddy of mine has been talking tacos for weeks. Like... weeks. So eventually we did the only reasonable thing and met up for tacos. First things first, the veggie tacos are unreal. Full stop. Out-of-this-world, didn't even stop to ask what's inside, just kept eating kind of good. Charbroiled flavor, perfectly balanced, and honestly the standout of the entire meal. If I came back and only ordered those again, I'd have zero regrets. Overall concept? Really cool. Seasonal, healthier-leaning options, and tortillas that are genuinely delicious (and fluffy?), which puts this place in a different lane than some of the taco spots I've been hitting lately. My bill was around $20 for four tacos, which felt totally reasonable. My personal ranking: Veggie, undefeated champion, Asada, solid, Barbacoa, meh, Fish, desert fish is always a gamble (barbacoa and fish are basically tied for last for me). The salsas were great. The red one actually brings the heat. The green one? Way milder by comparison, but of course I put both on everything like the responsible adult I am. Now... the bathrooms. This is where things got weird. For a pretty large space, there's 2 single-use bathrooms on the restaurant side and it was occupied constantly. I made three attempts before finally giving up and trekking to the other side to use the bathroom over there. At a certain point I started questioning whether anyone was actually in there or if it was some kind of taco-based time warp. My partners breakfast burrito was great, always a good sign with a fresh tortilla. However, the El Madrid was straight up cold. Poached eggs were rock solid. I asked the server if my eggs and hollandaise were supposed to be cold, as I understood the bread, ham, and tomato was supposed to be. She said no and had the kitchen remake my dish. The second time it came out and the eggs were at least a little runny this time, however the hollandaise was still cold. Came to have some breakfast mid week. As soon as I walked in I saw a coffee area. (Which I was excited about). I got the iced cajeta latte, which I would honestly NOT suggest to anyone. The latte tasted like I was drinking something goat flavored. I asked the barista about it and she said it's made with goat milk, which then made sense. I am not a fan of the goat flavor, and if I would seen it was made with that I probably would have not got it. Once I got to the breakfast part of it, I ordered chilaquiles (green) which were not bad. They were made a bit different than I am used to, but they still had pretty good flavor! I've been spending more time on the bar side of things here and I keep coming back for more. Jose is a phenomenal bartender. He is very personable and makes one of the best carajillos that I've ever had. Everyone else is friendly too. Chris is one of the managers and he does a good job checking in on how the experience is going. Santana is on-top of things, although she does have trouble reaching high spots (not her fault haha) . Really surprised to see this place is only a 4.1 overall. I think Otro is one of the gems of uptown. Why?... 1. Delicious, authentic, Mexican food. Some people think Mexican food is all carne asada street tacos. But Mexico is in fact a diverse place with some sophisticated cooking. Otro reflects that well. 2. Brisket! If you go to a barbecue joint for brisket (in Phoenix) you're gonna pay $30-$40. Instead, just roll up to Otro and get the barbacoa. You know it's smoked in house because you can smell the smoke outside every morning. 3. Service. The dude at the bar with beard and glasses is always super welcoming and friendly. The entire staff works hard and you can see them hustling around constantly. 4. Attached cafe is a great place to work if you wfh on a laptop. I've spent the whole day there before and it's comfortable, with outlets everywhere for easy charging. 5. Mexican pastries. For me it's nostalgia wrapped in a paper bag and I love it. 6. When you think Mexican food do you think "pancake"? Probably not. But after eating breakfast here, you probably will. I highly recommend the barbacoa with eggs and the sweet pancake. I forget what the call it. Maybe pancake dulce? It has candied nuts, caramel, bananas and some sort of crema iirc. It is delicious. But very sweet. I'd save it for desert. My only complaint would be that I didn't love the chicken mole and it was pricey. On the other hand, the breakfast tacos are delicious and inexpensive. I guess the theme I'm seeing now that I'm writing the review is, the breakfast/brunch is amazing here. And maybe dinner is not quite as good. If you're in uptown and can only eat at one restaurant from breakfast/brunch, otro is probably my #1 spot. They also are popular for day drinking if that's your thing. This place was very busy for a Friday at 1pm! They have both booth and table options, and seemed to be very family friendly (lots of kids around). The chips and guacamole were really tasty- the small portion size for 3 people was actually quite large! We didn't even finish them all. We go to Scottsdale about twice a year. We discovered this jewel during our trip in October. It is now one of our "go to" places when we are in town. This time we brought friends with us. First of all... GREAT COFFEE!! And I'm not really a coffee snob. Everything we had was outstanding, including the famous flapjacks and the breakfast burrito. The bacon is excellent. A charming café that doubles as a delicious brunch spot. We arrived some time after noon so both the seating in the café and dining room were full (pictures posted were taken after we finished our meal, when a lot of people had already left). Nonetheless, service was prompt. We ordered a bowl of chips to share at the table. The tomato based salsa that came with the chips wasn't anything special. The spice we really enjoyed came from the bottled green and red salsas, both delicious and difficult to choose between. Our waiter was very attentive and brought our food out quickly. One of the drinks we ordered and loved was the horchata- very sweet and very creamy. My husband opted to order a burger which he paired with an ice cold mexican coca-cola. This place has great food and good ambiance! I've been meaning to check out Otro Cafe at the recommendation of multiple friends. It's a sit-down restaurant with a coffee/ice cream shop attached. Seems busy upon entering. Cute decor with lots of paintings by local artists. They have a patio with misters in the back. We waited about 20 minutes for Sunday brunch. They start you with chips and 2 salsas for the table. I ordered the guacamole to share, then got three different tacos: the carne asada, barbacoa, and pork belly. Their tacos are overall great! Bigger than your average Mexican place's street tacos. They're served on flour tortillas, and dressed with guac, cilantro, and onion. The carne asada was my favorite hands down, with the barbacoa closely following. The pork belly was good, but it was cut into long & thick strips of meat so it was just harder to eat in a taco. I cut it into smaller pieces and it was fine. My tablemates ordered the Naco Torta which was apparently delicious and the Pork Belly Bowl which received the same comments as the taco. The young guy who served us was very kind and efficient and even gave us recommendations for ice cream next door. We ended up getting the Toasted Coconut and Cinnamon Cajeta Latte ice creams. Had a very disappointing experience today. This place used to be really good but their standards are slipping. The margarita I had was basically watered down lemon juice with no discernible alcohol. For drinks we ordered micheladas and grapefruit mimosa, and horchata. The mimosa was good, nothing out of the ordinary. The horchata was okay. We ordered the chilaquiles, carne asada torta, pork belly burger and a breakfast plate with carne asada. The chilaquiles sauce was really good, only downside is they use tostadas instead of chips. The carne asada on both the torta and breakfast plate was very tender. The pork belly burger was delicious, a bit messy but worth it. The patio was really cute with misters and umbrellas. We also tried the toastes coconut ice cream, strawberry nutella cake ice cream, guava cheese danish and a vanilla stuffed donut from the attached coffee shop. All the sweets were really good. I want to come back and try their take on the chicken soup which is almost like a pho. The service was good but nothing out of the ordinary. All in all I would definitely come back. read more

When a restaurant is half-empty and it is a Thursday at 11:30 AM you would think reservations for a group of 8 or 10 would be available. As most understand it, reservations are for the restaurants customers. They are also useful to the restaurant. They can seat people for the reservations where they want. They can treat the reservation as a whole, taking orders all at once or bringing them into in to be cooked one at a time. That did not happen. The host was aware of the group. The waitress provided great service. No troubles related to food delivery were experienced. Sometimes things are a certain way, and sometimes another. Chalaquiles I have heard and thought as not the most haute cuisine. Therefore, if you make them one way or another they still are Chalaqueles. Take a short spin around with web looking for way to make them. You will get an eyeful. So they filled your eye with pretty and creative. Not what I had in mind, but we can't always get down and dirty grub. This one gets points on presentation and creativity. The restaurant is clean. The outside storefront is as plain as could be, there is one interesting picture hanging on the wall. The rest tastefully decorated. A lovely place to have some creative Mexican Food. read more

The cafe ought to do something about the parking situation as it's not fair to customers who drive from 30 miles away and genuinely want to dine in. I got the white pozole with pork not good. My daughter got chicken enchiladas the sauce was tomatoes sauce the chicken had no flavor no spices. The servers said the rice was spanish rice, it had mushrooms and cauliflower in it. The restraint is nice and they play good music.
