This place has great food and good ambiance! I've been meaning to check out Otro Cafe at the recommendation of multiple friends. It's a sit-down restaurant with a coffee/ice cream shop attached. Seems busy upon entering. Cute decor with lots of paintings by local artists. They have a patio with misters in the back. We waited about 20 minutes for Sunday brunch. They start you with chips and 2 salsas for the table. I ordered the guacamole to share, then got three different tacos: the carne asada, barbacoa, and pork belly. Their tacos are overall great! Bigger than your average Mexican place's street tacos. They're served on flour tortillas, and dressed with guac, cilantro, and onion. The carne asada was my favorite hands down, with the barbacoa closely following. The pork belly was good, but it was cut into long & thick strips of meat so it was just harder to eat in a taco. I cut it into smaller pieces and it was fine. My tablemates ordered the Naco Torta which was apparently delicious and the Pork Belly Bowl which received the same comments as the taco. The young guy who served us was very kind and efficient and even gave us recommendations for ice cream next door. We ended up getting the Toasted Coconut and Cinnamon Cajeta Latte ice creams. For drinks we ordered micheladas and grapefruit mimosa, and horchata. The mimosa was good, nothing out of the ordinary. The horchata was okay. We ordered the chilaquiles, carne asada torta, pork belly burger and a breakfast plate with carne asada. The chilaquiles sauce was really good, only downside is they use tostadas instead of chips. The carne asada on both the torta and breakfast plate was very tender. The pork belly burger was delicious, a bit messy but worth it. The patio was really cute with misters and umbrellas. We also tried the toastes coconut ice cream, strawberry nutella cake ice cream, guava cheese danish and a vanilla stuffed donut from the attached coffee shop. All the sweets were really good. Made a yelp account just to leave this review... Today my experience was awful, customer service has literally gone out the window at this place. Our server was rude and passive agressive. I had simple questions about the food and her responses were short and it frankly felt like I was bothering her. When we did get our food I got my food first while my friend waited for her food and finally got done by the time I was half way with my meal. No refills hardly any service. I really don't understand how ownership is handeling this, management is obviouly doing a terrible job. This is not the first time I have an experiance like this at OTRO or GALLO BLANCO. COME ON! I would like not to waste my days off on establishments like these and support local restaurants who actually put effort into their customers all around experience. read more

The staff is kind and on top of things (shoutout Mel!) . My chillaquiles may look slightly untraditional but the flavor did all the talking. A large portion too. I came here with a friend for lunch and have been to Otro Cafe many time before. First off, the food is excellent IMO. Fresh ingredients, tasty, and unique. Thus, my review does not reflect on the food or the chefs (who are excellent and accommodating). My less than optimal review stems from the consistently poor customer service. Unfortunately, I have noticed that their customer service has significantly declined over the past few years. For example, during this recent episode my friend and I were seated but 2-3 waitresses would just walk by us as if we didn't exist. Keep in mind, they were not busy at the time. This lasted for over 5 minutes. And, when we would look at them and try to make eye contact, they just had a dismissive attitude and wouldn't acknowledge us. We certainly didn't come in with negative energy, entitlement, etc. - we were just two people who wanted to eat lunch. My friend didn't feel it was worth complaining. And, we were so hungry, that we just got up, left, and went somewhere else. Interestingly, I noticed this another time when I had been here with another friend months prior - but we were on the other side (the cafe side). Those two girls simply ignored us, and that time, we had to get up and politely ask for menus, water, silverware, etc. I read other reviews and noticed that this has been a consistent trend with other Otro customers. As someone in customer service, I can attest that when there are consistent trends of poor service (i.e. read other Yelp reviews), it almost always stems from the top (management). Good establishments ensure that customers who get seated are waited on courteously and in a timely fashion - and certainly not ignored and definitely not with an attitude! Management instills that intention into the waiters/waitresses and re-iterate it during employee pow-wow's, etc. Not so in this case. As we all know, egos/attitudes are killers for businesses - all it takes is one bad employee whose negative energy can spread like wildfire to customers and other employees alike. Now, I understand this place gets busy and can have a wait to get seated - that is certainly understandable, but once seated, when customers have to "hunt down" a waiter/waitress - that's simply poor service. My recommendation to management (if they even read these reviews) is to lose the attitude in your servers and get back to what your service used to be like. If a server(s) have negative affective/attitude issues at baseline (i.e. that's simply who they are), get rid of them! They don't belong in customer service to begin with. Hire individuals who make the customers feel welcome and appreciated - it reflects well upon a business that makes such fine food. Unfortunately, because of these two episodes, my friends and I avoid Otro Cafe - we just don't want to have to deal w/ poor service and attitude when all we want is to eat good food. read more

This place was the best dinner stop me and my small family have had in a long time. The atmosphere as soon as we walked in was welcoming and the aroma of yummy food filled the room. This was my second visit to Otro. Since it was hot outside, we decided to eat inside. The tables feel a bit crowded and there was a bit of a wait. They need to work some on noise reduction, but it's a cute space and has a comfortable feel. The food is the real reason to visit. Absolutely everything on the menu is excellent. The service was over the top excellent. One thing I wish more restaurants did was to provide a to go cup with a refill of your drink. This was especially helpful on a hot Summer day and we had a a group of six. The food came out at a reasonable pace, however it did take awhile for our checks. We didn't mind as we were enjoying conversation and I'm certain if you were in a rush you could mention that. I highly recommend Otro and don't be afraid to order breakfast for dinner, their flapjacks are not only huge, but probably the best in Arizona. They do offer Brunch, so that will be my next bucket item. read more

I've been spending more time on the bar side of things here and I keep coming back for more. Jose is a phenomenal bartender. He is very personable and makes one of the best carajillos that I've ever had. Everyone else is friendly too. Chris is one of the managers and he does a good job checking in on how the experience is going. Santana is on-top of things, although she does have trouble reaching high spots (not her fault haha) . Nikita is also very friendly and very attentive. The food is solid; I recommend the carne asada bowl (but add veggies; I order no cheese). Great spot. read more

i've been dying to try this spot and to be honest, i was underwhelmed but will definitely give it another chance. there wasn't a coffee menu so i had 0 idea what any of the specialty coffees were and the cashier wasn't very helpful. so i just got a caramel latte and the only gluten free treat available (which was yummy!) but all of the other pastries looked delish! my brother ordered a breakfast burrito which he enjoyed and one of the sticky buns but our cashier forgot to give it to us. when we asked for it, they had run out & then she didn't believe that we purchased it. she couldn't track down our order (even though it was a few orders back) but finally agreed to give us a different pastry. it was odd but was fine. it was absolutely packed but looked like cozy seating! read more

The food is very bland they dont serve any chili. They gave us chips with 3 salsa two weren't only one was tasty and one was hot but tasted like horseradish. I got the white pozole with pork not good. My daughter got chicken enchiladas the sauce was tomatoes sauce the chicken had no flavor no spices. The servers said the rice was spanish rice, it had mushrooms and cauliflower in it. The restraint is nice and they play good music. I took 10 people here for brunch 4/7/24 as a going away party before I moved from AZ to NC. Everyone enjoyed the food and it was very reasonably priced. The service was decent...but not great. One of my guests hadn't gotten her meal when everyone else had and another guest went to fetch the server. I specifically chose the location because one of my favorite singers was performing here. The music set up was in the lobby and we really couldn't see or hear her. But I'm glad we went to support her gig nonetheless. I called and asked for a reservation about a week before because at one point I thought I was going to have about 20 people. The manager I spoke to was not rude but insistent that they don't take reservations. I mentioned that one of the families coming had an elderly person and one person was visually impaired. Could I just at least reserve one table for four? Nope... I thought, wow, girlfriend...you have zero wisdom. I get following the rules, but if ever there was a time to bend the rules and accommodate someone it would be for older and visually impaired people. Luckily, my guests were very gracious about waiting for a table. I think the hostess' name was Jordan...anyway, I hope it is because she was very sweet and accommodating. When I got there I told her there were 11 of us and she seemed very reassuring that they'd get us a table and we didn't end up having to wait very long. All I wanted from the manager when I called was some assurance that they'd do their best to seat a large party when I got there (if they couldn't make a reservation). She told me to get there early because there was usually a line out the door when they opened. The thing is, they opened at 8:00 am and my guests were arriving around 11:00 am. I ended up getting there around 10:15 am. But seriously, how could I show up when the door opened and wait 3 hours? I get that people are flaky and don't show up for reservations, but in this case, I think the manager could have been friendlier and more accommodating, like at least to reassure me that they'd do their best to get us seated vs making me nervous that we wouldn't all get seated together. If I wasn't going here to see the singer, I would have chosen another location to have brunch. I'd describe the manager's attitude as "defensive" and she should have been "accommodating" or "friendlier" even if they couldn't make a reservation. I spent over $300 and left a generous tip. Customer service starts way before someone even gets to the restaurant, so I'm giving this place a 2-star rating because the service was sub-par, except for the hostess...who I really appreciated. read more

They had closed the patio because it was raining earlier, but they were nice enough to let us sit out there. I ordered the vegan breakfast burrito. My friends had the shrimp ceviche, the shrimp bowl, and the naco torta. The vegan burrito was filling. It was spicy. Everything was spicy. Not where you couldn't tolerate it, but your nose may run spicy. You do have to pay for your chips and salsa. We gladly paid for the them. The chips were thick and crunchy. We opted to get seated in the cafe area since there would've been a wait on the restaurant side. Came here on a mid day Saturday for brunch because of their great reviews on Yelp but had issues with both the food and service. They serve brunch from 8am-4pm and they have a dinner menu after 4pm. Breakfast is served all day which is pretty nice. Server never brought chips and salsa after she had said she'll be back with it. Their classic margarita was really sour and bitter so the next drink I just ordered an orange mimosa to be on the safe side. The sampler breakfast was cold like it sat in the kitchen for a while before it got to our table and there were tiny pieces of egg shells on the flap jack. Potatoes were bland and the eggs weren't cooked over easy as I asked for. My boyfriend got the chilaquiles with barbacoa and that was on fire but thought it was a little steep on price. Really enjoyed this Mexican spot! We came right when they opened on a Saturday morning and arrived to a group of people already waiting to go in. Seemed like a great sign for what was to come! The moment we pulled up you could smell the delicious meats being cooked. We sat on the back patio which was spacious and dog friendly. Service was warm and attentive which was surprising since it was relatively closed off from the main dining room. We had the chips and salsa, huevos rancheros, barbacoa and eggs and a kids bean burrito. The salsas were all very flavorful as well as the huevos rancheros. The barbacoa was tender and was spiced perfectly. Even the kids bean burrito was delicious with the most perfect flour tortilla. We were seated right away and our server was excellent. Very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and helpful with any questions we had. My husband ordered the chicken pho, I ordered the Barbacoa and Eggs (barbacoa, two eggs, beans, guacamole, pico de gallo, fire-roasted salsa, served with tortillas). We also ordered a chicken taco and fruit for our daughter. The chicken was flavorless but my daughter enjoyed it and ate plenty off my plate as well. I really liked the barbacoa and would definitely get it again. The chicken pho was just okay, the chicken also being pretty flavorless. I had the El Madrid which is basically an eggs Benedict. Beautiful presentation, perfectly poached eggs, very delicious jamon serrano. The bread was a little difficult for me as I currently don't have my dentures... but I can't hold that against them. I was drawn here by a friend's report that the pancakes are very good. So, I had to try one. I asked for a Berry Pancake (our waitress was delighted that I did) and WOW!!! SO WONDERFUL!! Perfectly cooked with slightly crunchy edges, and a little doughy on the inside. Just the right amount of berries and berry syrup. The maple syrup had a strong, dark maple flavor. I have never really cared for pancakes, but clearly I've never had a good one... Next time I come here I'm getting a short stack. The service was great. I love the atmosphere. Parking was a nightmare. Lots of tempting choices on the menu, but save room for a pancake. Loved this place for a delicious brunch! We had an excellent time at this restaurant and the food was delicious. It can get pretty busy so it's recommended to arrive early. We waited about 40 minutes for a table, but the food was worth it. I had a very good breakfast burrito and the papas fritas. I also had a lemonade that wasn't the best, but the food was. We tried the dulce de leche flapjacks and loved it. Our group also had the frittata which was well received and the barbacoa with eggs as well as the huevos rancheros which looked great. They have a great cafe de olla, although you have to get up yourself and go order it from the coffee counter near the entrance. The service was quick and friendly and the restaurant was clean and had great music. I would definitely come back to try some of the other menu options as so many things sounded like they would be delicious. The food was also vibrant and fresh and smelled incredible, they had a ton of options for appetizers, entrees and dessert. There is plenty of parking in the back and some parking up front. When both areas are full, the restaurant is located in a larger shopping plaza so there were spots nearby too. They also seem to have a happy hour after 3pm and a ton of cocktail options which we did not try but I would come back for since they seemed to have a variety. I would even come back for the same burrito I had, it was very good. I look forward to trying this place again and trying new items.
