Had a great meal at Restaurant Progress! We were seated outside and initially was hesitant because of the cold weather. Thankfully they had plenty of heaters so it made no difference than if we were seated inside. The staff were really attentive and made some great recommendations on the menu. Came here for fancy dinner as part of college reunion and I looooooved it. There was parking across the street, although I'm not sure we were allowed to park there (then again we are quite late so maybe it didn't matter as much). We all got the tasting course menu, which requires everyone's buy in because it turns out they let you try a bunch of different dishes! Each course had two different tastings. They were all quite delicious. Three of us opted to share a plate of the fois gras + uni-- I think that one was maybe unnecessary. The uni was a bit fishy and the fois gras wasn't as smooth as I'd like. Not a bad price, but also, the tastings had more than enough food. I was very excited to see they had a mocktail option called the mockingbird. I was asked to select a flavor profile: sweet, citrus, smoky, etc. I picked citrus and happily got something similar to a lemon drop margarita- but still allowed me to drive after haha! My friends were also able to get recommendations that perfectly suited their tastes for wine and liquor and other mixed drinks. Restaurant Progress is one of my favorite Phoenix establishments. I've gone four times now, and each time is a treat. The staff are incredibly friendly, and know how to take you through the menu that is always a bit new, but with some mainstays. read more

I wanted to love it, but left feeling underwhelmed. I discovered Progress after a friend posted about it on Instagram. I had company coming in for NYE, and found they were doing a chef's choice type menu for the night. I called to inquire about the specifics and the staff was so helpful in booking my reservation. The presentation of the food was lovely, but I was put off by the taste of a couple of the plates. The staff was wonderfully kind, but we did have a couple of snafus like courses delivered out of order and an incorrect liquor in one of the drinks. These were taken care of promptly. The patio is cute, and mostly enclosed, but the heaters didn't make it to our table so it was quite chilly. At $100 per person, the four course meal left us wanting more, with small portions for the price. read more

Restaurant Progress is like the the type of girl you want to bring home to mom- beautiful, classy, and sophisticated. It is easily one of the valleys best kept secrets. It flys under the radar, as it lacks the pomp and circumstance of other valley restaurants- but my gosh the food here can compete with the best. We split the squash with farro for an appetizer. I never thought in my life I'd be salivating over squash and craving more but it was perfect. Just look at my picture. The crispy pork belly did not disappoint either. It was the best crispy pork I've ever had. Automatic five stars. The restaurant is incredibly beautiful. The inside is highlighted by the open kitchen concept, dim lights, and bold white backsplash. We sat outside on a cool fall night but it was perfect. The outside area is covered with plants, vegetation, and candles. Winning all around. This place is so cute and classy, our waiter was so nice too and helpful with our decision making. The hostess was also really sweet and sat us inside because it was raining but only patio was available since we booked our res 10 minutes before we were walking in. The food was very good New American and I recommend the fresh pasta and beef tartar. The chocolate mousse was my favorite part. The crudo wasn't my favorite (kinda bland) and the oysters were pretty good, but I felt like there was an ingredient in there that didn't quite mix with the others. The bathrooms are completely coed and a girl can literally use the restroom in the next stall over from a guy. I found that to be a bit excessive and uncomfortable. But not a huge deal. My favorite restaurant in Phoenix! Restaurant Progress is a 40 min drive from our apartment so we don't go often as we'd like but it's still my absolute favorite restaurant and THE PLACE I recommend to friends who visit! I'm not going to talk about specific dishes too much as their menu is always changing (another reason why I love them) but every single dish I've had here is amazing!! I love how they often have plenty of light but tasty things that I love like rilettes, crudos, carpaccios, tartares as most restaurants only have a limited selection of these types of foods. The dishes are small plates/tapas style so it's super fun to be able to try a lot of different things (my husband and I usually get 4-5 things to share and some of their yummy bread) And the cocktails and wine list is amazing as well! I usually don't drink cocktails but the ones here are not too sweet so I love getting one or two before/after wine :) The service here has been wonderful and we've gotten amazing drink and food recommendations from the servers! TIPS: I've only uber-ed here but the parking lot seems a bit small for those who plan to drive. Also, I DEFINITELY recommend reservations, and at least a day or two before if you want prime time! We've thought of going the morning of but they typically don't have prime spots (only super early or super late) so learned to reserve like a week before. read more

We are on a visit to Phoenix and my brother in law recommended Progress. Love the kitschy environment with the old Pharmacy logos. Great ambience and everyone was welcoming as we walked in, including chef and the cook staff. We decided to go family style which we recommend. We ordered the ribeye, tagliatelle pasta, swordfish and pork belly. Everything was delicious. Swordfish can be tough if not prepared properly but it was delicious. We also ordered desert - cheesecake, butterscotch and panna cotta. It was great to share little bites as they were all mouth watering. The flavors were perfectly complementary and not overwhelming. Price is around 4 star, but for us well worth it. Enjoy! read more

I am absolutely blown away by Restaurant Progress. Everything about my and my husband's dining experience last night was 5 stars. First - the service was fantastic; we had Chase as our waitress who was phenomenal. She was kind, attentive, extremely knowledgeable and gave great recommendations. But even the table runners and lady who sat us (who I think was the manager?) were extremely nice and friendly and quick! Our table was consistently cleaned which we appreciated. Most importantly - the food was absolutely unbelievable. We opted out of the tasting menu and chose our own food. We did the sourdough, which was basic and delicious; the endive ceasar salad, the most unique and tasty rendition we've ever had; the duck, which was perfectly rendered over the best harissa carrot sauce I've ever had; and the mushroom lasagna, which was absolutely to die for due both to taste and texture. Our only complaint was one of our first dishes, the tuna crudo. It was way too salty, almost inedibly so. The mojo sauce saved it, but as our opening dish, we were a little concerned. However, as noted above, everything else blew us away. Last - the dessert. This deserved its own section of the review. Holy. Wow. We couldn't decide and ordered both the ice cream sandwich and the cheesecake. Both were phenomenal, but the ice cream sandwich was particularly delicious. I've never had anything texturally similar and I'm still thinking about it this morning. Sad I didn't take any pictures because both were beautiful as well. Overall, cannot recommend this place enough. Great vibe, great food, and great drink options! Delicious appetizers; entrees not so much... We celebrated a belated Valentine's Day at Progress tonight. First time visiting in about 5 years, and unfortunately, this visit fell far short of how I remembered our previous dinner. Service and atmosphere are wonderful, although we were seated in the Wine Room and I felt like the main dining room would have been more fun. When I made the reservation, I was told the Wine Room was more quaint and romantic, and while that might be true for some, sitting across from a wall of refrigerators just didn't deliver the vibe we were hoping for. On the food, we started with the Steak Tartare and Burrata, both of which were delicious. Had we only ordered apps and then left, my review would be far more favorable; unfortunately we ordered two main entrees to share and both were big misses. The Pork Belly was high on flavor with the Asian influenced sauce and bok choy, but the pieces we got were 90% fat and 10% meat. It was tough to chew and almost inedible. My stomach has some work to do to digest all that fat. Strike one The duck was highly recommended by our server, and she had me at "3 hour sous vide". Unfortunately, ours lacked the texture you'd expect from a sous vide meat, and almost seemed over cooked as it was tough to cut. It also lacked any flavor whatsoever, and we found ourselves constantly dipping the duck in the sauce on the plate in hopes it would add something to the dish, but both the meat and the sauce just seemed quite bland. It definitely needed salt and some kind of acid. Strike two Overall, I'd give the dinner a 3 out of 5 on the basis of the delicious appetizers and decent wine. We came here for my birthday and had the tasting menu. My husband knows I'm a sucker for a tasting menu so we just defaulted to this. A few reasons it was 4 starts instead of 5. 1. They initially seated us at a community table where they were going to sit another 4 top. The place was practically empty when we arrived, and they were very reluctant to let us sit in a 2 top table so we could have more privacy. 2. The food selections on the tasting menu were some of the lowest expense items. I understand with food costs and what the industry has undergone that they need to manage costs, but it would have been nice to see a more impressive entree item for the tasting menu, even if you need to adjust the price accordingly. Now for the good stuff: what a vibe!!! The place is adorable and all the plants had me fawning. The food was delicious, some we liked more than others but that's to be expected with a tasting menu. The food came FAST! They moved us through the courses and quickly. They explained each item, fast and courteous service. We had a full view of the kitchen which was entertaining- and equally impressive that they produced such impressive dishes in those small quarters. We got the chefs choice. The chefs choice menu costs $150 a person. I would honestly recommend just choosing from the menu as the dishes we got totaled around that amount. Overall, had a pleasant experience, food was decent, but I've definitely had better. My favorite dish was the tomatoes. I love how the saltiness of it cut through the sweet tomatoes. Couldn't get enough of that dish! I'd say skip on the extra thirty for the foie gras. It's good, rich, but not worth the extra money in my opinion. If I had chosen my dishes, I would have opted for salmon or mussels as opposed to chicken. I think chicken is fairly safe and nothing super special flavor wise. The service was good. My friend brought me here with a few other friends for my birthday and this place i can easily say is now my new favorite place. We opted in the 5 course meal option where the chef picked our food and wine pairing and it was heavenly, the menu is updated frequently so unfortunately i did not find it their website to reference the dishes names, but that is part of the experience is to go there and be delighted with the chefs selections of fresh, elegant, and eccentric dish creations (in a good way), that were paired with the most amazing wines one could ask for. we started the evening off with Pisco sour and the rest was just fun, good food, and amazing service. Out of the 5 meals that I had, (which by the way, we were a group of 4, and we had at least 3 different dishes for each meal) the duck tartare was one of my favorites, as well as the tomato and creme fraiche soup. Also, and i was pleasantly surprised and delighted by the foie gras with the chive creme fraiche and on top of a bed of palenta (if i remember correctly) and i fell n love with the octopus, muscle and chorizo dish. Those are a few of the dishes we tried and I highly recommend this place for any special even, or just a normal Thursday gathering. We ended our meals with a shot of espresso, 4 amazing and different dessert dishes paired with DAMN good riesling and ice wine. Finally, a good place like this place could not have been this good if they did not have an amazing staff, and chefs. 2 things real quick, it's been a while and I finally made it here. This was from a couple days ago but, it's all good. I usually like to post right after I eat but. Okay the food. Rhode Island Scallop Crudo - Scallop Ceviche infused w/ Grapefruit, topped w/ Pistachio, Fresno Chiles and Mint. Fire but I thought the full leaves of mint dominated the dish but, pretty damn good. Beef Carpaccio - Exactly what it is but what made this legit was the Lemon Garlic Vinaigrette mmmh Shaved Grana Padano, Pine Nuts, Tomato and Basil. Yum. Buttered Radishes - All I gotta say is absolutely amazing. Just order it if you like radishes. Came with a Frisée Salad and topped with Pistachios. Drool Steamed Mussels - Again, one of my favorite things to order but no lie, this was one of my favorite Red Sauce Mussels, hands down. No lie. It was a blend of red tomato sauce and Chirizo w/ chunks of Garlic Confit, Melted Tomatoes and Leeks. Again, just order it haha. Crispy Pork Belly - Soaked in a Yuzu Teriyaki Glaze, Grilled Bok Choy, Small Slaw and Furikake. Pretty good. Lemon Semifreddo - Desserts been becoming a regular thing for me lately and you can't go wrong with Semifreddo. This shit was out of this world good though, minus the Wine Jelly. Covered in Brown Butter Almonds, Blueberries and Thyme. Absolute fire Give it a go, the menus change up monthly, chef does a dope ass job on delivering, definitely see this place becoming a regular eating spot. Super good. read more

The person I was going with got wrapped up in a meeting and was super late for our reservation and the server was super nice about it. I had their cider and it was good, not a huge wine drinker but if you are you'll love it here. For the entree i had the lasagna and it was Don't expect a cheap meal it's pricey but worth it. My friend had the octopus and she loved it so if that's you're type of thing def recommend it, she literally started texting a friend of hers that she needs to come. Def a good spot to have a nicer dinner. The vibe could use some work, need to differentiate themselves from the 100 other hipster-eske restaurants around town. It was our Saturday night date, and my wife seemed to be driving us through the ghetto, the weather was a chilly 115 degrees and for some reason I chose to wear my long sleeve shirt and thick Tillys discounted jeans. "Honey... I don't know if this is the right neighborhood for this restaurant." She pulls the car up next to the barbed wire fence.* "It's ok love, this is the trendy part of town. They purposefully want it to look like this." The chain links erupt with a loud tremble and three pit bulls begin tearing at the metal slits. *We start our sprint to the restaurant doors. Could that sweat dripping down my leg be from the blistering sun, or something else; something much worse... "Hello, welcome to Restaurant Progress, do you have a reservation?" "Yes, we do, it's under the name Alaska..." With a smile on her face and two paper menus in her hand, she invites us over to our table. ..." your server will be with you in just a moment." Only a moment passes until our kind server arrives. "Hey guys, what can I get started for you?" "We would like to do the Leave it to the Kitchen menu!" I gasp* "Babe, that's a $150 dollars a person!" Before I can convince anyone otherwise the server struts out of the boho courtyard and back into the kitchen. 15 minutes pass and next thing I know, it arrives: The Burrata, good God, the Burrata! The tomatoes, shishito peppers, basil leaves, olive oil; perfectly balanced as all things should be. Next, comes the Hiramasa Crudo. Is it possible to pare a king fish with mint, peach slices, cashews, and olive oil? Don't even ask the question, just eat the damn fish! I've never liked sweet potato but when that plate arrived, perfectly seasoned with, black garlic, whipped feta, and pepita sesame brittle; I knew Gods hand had to have been protecting us on our journey to try this godly gift of a dish. At this point in the night I was so full that I could barely remember the taste of my Pork Belly Bok Choy and Beet relish chicken. The explosion of flavors was unbearable and not in a bad way. I didn't think the night could get any better, I reclined in my chair, completely satisfied with my life and ready to claim my eternal rest... "Here is your last dish." I looked down, "Oh. My. God." a bit of drool falls out of my mouth.* The R.i.g.a.t.o.n.i. Smoked fonduta, fava beans, guanciale, grana padano. I would give my right arm to eat this dish again, and to be honest, you should too. With every bite I felt my soul exit my body and re-enter with the strength of a million galaxies. Lord have mercy! Yikes! I cannot believe I was steered so wrong by all the hype fans of Progress. After reading and hearing so many positive things about this place, I decided to take my parents from out of town (San Francisco) here last night and told them this was a place for foodies - gosh was I wrong after a poor culinary experience. Let's start with the good: -Our waitress Chaise was excellent. Super fun, helpful, and gave us glasses of champagne after acknowledging our 25 minute wait on reservations we had for the patio. Classy AF honestly. I would also mention that the entire staff including cooks were very nice and thoughtful people. Big up's here. -The decoration of the restaurant itself is beautiful - think super cool bar, exposed brick everywhere, and a cute patio right next to an old school Pharmacy that is out of the 1930's. Oozes with cool. -Foodwise the fried calamari and Roti were excellent dishes and ones I highly recommend. The Bad: -The food wasn't good! The worst offender? The shell pasta dish. How do you mess up a pasta dish with burrata on top of it? Well you add a confluence of olives and capers that turn the dish literally into a fishy smelling and tasting dish. It's like the chef's just straight up overthought this and tried to get way too "hip" and "cute". We ordered two of these thinking it would be a shoe in, winner, and everyone at the table did not like this. I highly suggest this restaurant rethink this entree. We felt the other dishes we order were ok, but nothing special (Crudo, swordfish, salad). -The esoteric and quite frankly poor wine collection. Most people in our party understand wines very well (we grew up in Napa) and have a home in Oregon and we couldn't recognize 85% of the wines they had (mostly French and Italian wines) and the wine we settled on as pretty average. -The patio is pretty cute but we had a combination of music blaring from the Thunderbird Lounge and music from progress in our ears while sitting in the corner of the patio - nothing Progress can do but the ambiance felt off with that! -Prices! I'm totally fine paying $15-$22 per starter and $30-$50 an entree if the portions are solid and the food is really well done but at this quality, yikes! I live just south of Restaurant Progress in the Willo and I've been dying to try this place for awhile and quite frankly, rooting heavily for anything in or around the Melrose district to do well and this was such a letdown from a food and wine experience. Such a bummer because again, I wanted this to be so good! I'm going to head to Sandfish down the street for a menu that really wow's me from here out. read more

OMG! I am literally about to pop! The ribeye steak is a 10! Well seasoned, quickly served, DELICIOUS! Chef Eric went on to serve us an amazing cheesecake and ice cream sandwich, both made me want to lick the plate. Sure enough we were pleased to be informed that a table was opening up. We had a nice table for two in there covered court yard area that gave a good out of the normal experience. For dinner we tried leaving it to the kitchen a great option on there menu in my opinion and everything they brought out was spot on .. being that we love to share and try new things this worked well for us .. had a few drinks that also had some personal touch that left us both drinking a little more than normal Amd for a good reason they tasted great ! If you are intimidated by Binkley's prices and three hour adventure, you will fare much better here and get much more value for your dollar! You simply cannot go wrong with anything on the menu! Tonight i sampled some of the Crudo, the grilled elote, ceviche, and for my main I had the grilled lamb Merguez. After that feast, so much for thinking i was full and content, my server convinced me to try the Keylime pie which was a work of art on it's own in terms of freshness and tanginess.
