This is difficult. A few things. The food is really good! We got the lobster deviled eggs, I highly recommend! We also ordered a steak, perfectly rare, loved it! We ordered asparagus as a side, and it was about 4 pieces. For the price, really thought it would be more. I ordered the turkey burger with Brussel sprouts. Both of them were wonderful! The atmosphere of the place was nice. My 3 stars are due to the service. Our waitress was not friendly at all. We asked what she recommended, as we have never been here, before. She shrugged, and said, "what do you like?" It took about 15 minutes to get our drinks. When the food came put, we figured we should ask for a refill in advance, since it took so long the first time. Restaurant Week Review Right on Michigan Avenue with huge windows to watch the throngs of people walking to and from work is this stylish, yet relaxing steakhouse. After walking into the cool vibe, it immediately felt to me that Remington's was more of a trendy cocktail bar that also served steaks. Great service and the wait staff were all professional. My set menu was tuna poke, a double-cut pork chop and a ricotta cheesecake. The tuna was served with huge chunks of avocado tossed with soy ginger vinaigrette and macadamia nuts and was absolutely amazing. The saltiness of the chips was a nice way to offset the sweetness of the vinaigrette but I ate every bit of it, regardless. The most disappointing part of the meal, unfortunately, was also supposed to be the star: the pork chop. There were a few good bites around the edges, but honestly, it was mostly bland and dry. And being a true meat lover, it breaks my heart to say that. The mashed potatoes were honestly the best thing on the plate. The finale was the cheesecake, which was portioned just enough for one person and tasted pretty good, although it wasn't enough to save me from the disappointing pork chop. I'm really on the fence with this one. Great location, beautiful and chill atmosphere without feeling stuffy, but the entrée just didn't impress me much. read more

Our server was attentive and friendly throughout the evening and my drink (French 75) was delicious. However, my meal was unacceptable. I ordered medium rare filet mignon. What I received was well done. After two quite dry slices I reluctantly asked the server to take it back. She took it away, but moments later brought it back to me and asked me to check the center for wellness. It was slightly pink and she said something like, Well it's pink in the center do you still want me to send it back? I told her yes and then explained my definition of "medium rare" was warm red center that should extend towards the edges. While I waited, the manager (presumably) stopped by to inquire and I stated what I told the server. He assured that it would be corrected. At this point, no problem, mistakes happen. When the plate was returned, I cut into it and it was exactly as before. Now at this point I thought, Well maybe their definition of medium rare is considerably different than mine. But then my husband pointed out that his steak, the Remington, was ordered medium and his was quite red throughout. So they took my meal back a second time and I just had it returned boxed up to go as everyone in the party had long since been done with their meals by this point. Cooked incorrectly once -- like I said, mistakes happen, although at almost $50 for my meal, that's annoying. Cooked incorrectly twice, that's just unacceptable. I wouldn't expect it at Longhorn, and I sure as heck wouldn't expect it at a place of Remington's supposed caliber (and price point!). Management seemed to take it seriously, but then it gets aggravating when you just want to enjoy the evening out and your table is interrupted by management stopping by numerous times to discuss it. In all, the four of us ordered over $300 in food and drinks, although the final bill before tip was just over $250 bc my meal was removed. I'm surprised that desserts or even coffee were not offered -- at the least, to keep the rest of my party occupied so I could have had a chance to eat. read more

I treated my parents to brunch at Remington's last weekend for my dad's birthday/Father's Day, and we were all very impressed with the super delicious food and super attentive service. I ordered the mini filet sliders, and they were cooked to perfection. My mom ordered the fish sandwich made with soft shell crab - OMG...so, so delectable. My dad ordered a traditional egg breakfast, and YOU GUYS - I cannot even explain in words how MIND BLOWING their hash browns are. I know that sounds crazy, because you're probably thinking "Hash browns are hash browns"...but these hash browns are seriously made with magic ingredients or something. They are THAT good. I dream about them, and I want to eat, sleep, and breathe their hash browns. Maybe I'll go again this weekend... I posted this review and then realized I forgot about their monkey bread. We were looking for a place close to our hotel to grab lunch and decided to try Remington's since the menu had a variety of options. As soon as we got there, we were immediately seated in a comfortable booth, and it was really nice to see how festive the restaurant was with all of their classy Christmas decor. Our waiter came to our table before we could take our coats off asking if we were ready to order drinks. I'm not sure why he was so eager to take our orders because the restaurant was only half full since we decided to come at 1pm for a late lunch. There were two salads I couldn't choose from, so we decided to order the Brussels Sprouts salad as an appetizer, and they brought it out already split in two plates, which was so convenient! The salad was great. I have no complaints! For my entree, I ordered the Wrightwood salad. I've never seen a salad come out with so much chicken in it. Normally, salads barely have any protein in it to fill a person up. Aside from me adoring all of the delicious chicken, the salad itself was great. It was soft, yet crunchy with the almonds. Savory, but a bit sweet with the citrus vinaigrette. I had a few bites of the Chicken Dip Sandwich, and it was really good. The moist sandwich had so much flavor and I recommend it for anyone wanting to go down the sandwich route. The restrooms are clean and the restaurant has a nice bar. But, it seemed that throughout our time at our table, the waiter and even the manager kept coming to our table asking if we were ok and needed anything else. It may have been them being overly nice, but to us it was them wanting to rush us out, and for that reason, we ate and got out of there and went down the street for more drinks so that we could enjoy our time and not have someone constantly at our table checking on us. I'm deducting a star because I just got an email from Opentable stating Remington's marked us as a no show when we clearly honored our reservation and checked in under my reservation. I was looking for a restaurant downtown for a date night. I decided to check out Remington's, and went to look at the menu on their website. There are not prices anywhere. Apparently if I want a burger I now have to pay "market price", being whatever they decide they want on that given day, because they're too lazy to maintain a website. But they were certainly sure to remind you that'll they'll upcharge you 18% if you have a party of 6 or more because they're incapable and unwilling of negotiating their staff's salaries, for this inability to produce a menu. read more

Popped in for a quick dinner after an afternoon at the Art Institute. Our decision was largely driven by location and Yelp reviews. We were seated at a high top table near the open windows, which overlook bustling South Michigan Avenue. This is good and bad - the view is wonderful, the weather was beautiful, the street performer screeching "Let It Go" into a portable PA system was not ideal. Two out of three ain't bad. We each started with a glass of wine. I had Pinot Gris from A to Z Cellars. My husband had... something red? I should really pay more attention to him. :) I ordered the rotisserie chicken, which was served with a side of mashed potatoes that had been doused in the au jus from the chicken. Mashed potatoes were good -- creamy and a bit salty. The rotisserie chicken was excellent. The skin was crispy and flavorful and the meat was tender. Overall, a solid meal, particularly for the price point. My husband had the tuna, which gets rave reviews on Yelp and from him. He liked the spice crust on the fish and said it was flavorful. The decor is urban upscale -- polished wood, open floor plan, with huge, glass wine cellars throughout the space. Service was excellent and, fortunately, the waitress laughed with us when she heard us mocking the aforementioned street performer. This was overall a win. Would definitely consider again. read more

My best friend from college and I came to Remington's to grab a cocktail before our 7pm dinner at the Gage near by. First of all, the place is very appealing to the eye with a lounge area when you first walk in, wall of wine, and a large bar in the middle with big TVs. The place had a decent crowd and we both ordered a glass of wine. The two waiters behind the bar were pretty friendly and I did get a chance to glance over their food menu which looked pretty solid. Remington's is an awesome place to grab drinks or even dinner and I would definitely consider coming back here again if I am dining in the loop. read more

This place definitely deserves the five stars. I came here on a Saturday for brunch and it was not packed at all. I was bracing myself for the brunch madness being right in the city. But I was quite surprised that it was pretty quiet. I had no problem with that. The waiter was super polite and helpful when we were choosing our food because it was our first time there. We got the Spatzle Mac n' Cheese and the monkey bread. First, the Spatzle Mac n' cheese is very dense. You can definitely share it two people. It may look small, but very filling and delicious. The cheese is very powerful but gives a good kick. The spatzle which is a small dumpling poached in water. I highly recommend the mac n' cheese. It may be a bit heavy for a brunch, so if you are really hungry, get this! The monkey bread was a game changer. When you pull the piece of bread off each other, the warm frosting drips down and it heaven in your mouth. You must get this when you go here. If you don't get anything else, get this. We split the Remington, a NY strip steak, and a baked potato. The steak was medium rare, just as requested, although a bit of the outside was a little too charred. The only weird thing was we were allowed to make reservations through Open Table for 11am, but this place didn't open until 11:30. We had brunch and shared a few items- the sliders were great, heavy bleu cheese taste. We had their classic salad and it did not disappoint. Fantastic location, nice open-windows to the front porch which allows the air, sun, and people watching in for the front half of the restaurant. It is also very deep with traditional dining booths in the back, quite a large space. As a "next door neighbor" I was offered 20% off for the brunch which I had on a Saturday in the 10am hour. We were seated pretty quickly, service was slow to take off (the poor waitress was visibly overbooked, tense and didn't let us give our orders with our coffee requests up front even though we were ready to do so) but once we ordered the food came quickly. The yogurt and fruit with granola were average, the brûlée grapefruit was a clever idea and made the fruit more flavorful. I ordered a Monkey bread also which was disturbingly large and soaking in gobs of butter and sugar: be warned if you don't like such unhealthy options!--we took most of that home. The big downside to this place is the cost: I felt like I paid quite a bit for what it was even with the discount. Glancing at the rest of the menu this is not a cheap place, I will reserve it perhaps in the future for a night when i have a lot of time with visitors out of town, but I can't see myself coming regularly as a local. read more

Stopped in with a girlfriend for dinner and wine. Love the ambiance here! I arrived early, so I put in my reservation for 2 and sat at the bar for a sparkly rose. Plenty of room at the bar, lots of classy people. There was enough background noise to mask your conversation, yet it was quiet enough to speak without raising your voice. Bartenders, greeters, wait staff were all friendly and very professional. We grabbed a bottle of red and decided it was burger night. OMG the burgers were great! I have to admit that I liked the blue cheese as opposed to cheddar, but they were both succulent. Shoestring fries were a nice touch, but the grilled asparagus was the show stopper. We didn't have a great experience here with the service, but the food was amazing so that's why I still rated it highly. I don't want to punish the entire restaurant due to one person's actions. We had the lobster deviled eggs as an appetizer, and they were tasty and unique. I had the prime rib and my friend had the filet mignon, which were both fantastic, and the sides of baked potato and creamed spinach were good but unremarkable. The problem we had with the service began when we first arrived. We made an online reservation earlier in the day for 9:30pm, and when we checked in at about 9:25, the server made it a point to express her frustration to the hostess that we were there for dinner so late, loudly and right in front of us. She mentioned several times to them, and to us as we sat at the table, that the kitchen closes at 10pm. She seemed very unhappy the whole time that she had to serve us, and we went long periods of time without seeing her. In the meantime, several guests were seated after us. I understand that she may have been frustrated, but if it's an issue to serve people at 9:30 due to the kitchen closing, don't have that time slot available as an option for reservations. They didn't make me feel like I wanted to continue to spend money with them...very dry personalities. I couldn't really hear as it was loud in there and I asked for a beer glass which apparently the bartender asked and I said "no". To be fair, I thought he was speaking about a glass vs. bottle which is why I said "no". However, when I did ask for a glass he seemed so incredibly bothered. I am not sure why. I am always kind to bartenders and servers because it is a really hard job. I am always grateful say "please" and "thank you". I am basically an incredibly easy customer to deal with. We did move to a table where our server was not great. She was robotic, not engaging, and didn't offer any advice on the menu, drinks, anything; She was simply an order taker. 3 stars for the variety of appetizers we ordered which were absolutely incredible. If we ever go back here, it will be for that and then move on somewhere else for dinner. We really wanted to like you Remingtons, but you missed the mark on our overall experience. Bummer. read more
