Love to support small, family owned businesses so we decided to stop in for breakfast. Not a lot of options on the menu for a vegetarian who doesn't even eat eggs but not there fault. They were kind enough to veer off their menu and create a veggie burrito. Added with chalupa, it was good. My friends who had real breakfast both said their meals were delicious. Super cool if you are from Michigan because the family that owns this business is from Michigan! They sell pastys every Tuesday however, we were lucky enough to get some to-go today. I am always on the lookout for the little "mom and pop" diners, because they usually have the best food and the best coffee. And this place did not disappoint. It isn't a fancy place, which is ok with me. I had the "Mix It Up" breakfast, which is basically a scramble with eggs, cheese, hash browns, green pepper, onions, ham, etc. And it is FANTASTIC! And one of my huge pet peeves is when you get your toast and it has a tiny smear of butter in the center. This actually had a bit of butter that oozed out in to the plate. PERFECTION! I love finding places like this. The only thing I would suggest is painting the walls to brighten it up a bit, but after I got my food I no longer cared! read more

Our first time back this year. Went for lunch. They were not terribly busy only using one side of restaurant. Three waitress's. Service was horrible! Ordered two burgers one with fries and one with potato salad. Both burgers extremely greasy. Fries were ok but could have been cooked longer. Potato salad was just potatoes and mayo quite disgusting. Waited for check but never came. Stood at counter 5 min before one of the other waitresses came and helped us. The tall blonde waitress was the only one who seemed to know what was going on and was helpful. She truly was running the place. Our waitress just did a lot of disappearing acts. I've been eating at the red Mountain Café for about six years now. I'm not a regular like coming in every week but still, I frequent the place because it's privately owned it feeds a family. Today I went in and brought my friend. She ordered a quarter pound cheeseburger and I told you not the cheeseburger is the size of a child's cheeseburger at McDonald's that was the size of the meat and justice thin it was dwarfed in the huge bun. I said that's not acceptable. That is not a quarter pound. I asked her not to eat it while I got the manager. I ordered a tuna sandwich on sourdough bread. The tuna was delicious, but the sourdough bread was stale. I took a bite out the bread cracked and half of the piece of bread fell off. It was so stale. The owner came over and said will we weigh and measure our burger patties? I'll go back there and check for you. Then I told her about the sourdough bread. She did apologize but nothing was done. I got the full bill. Even if she would've said 10% off, which would've only been two dollars it would've been better than nothing because the food wasn't even par. It was below par. I have to say I won't be going back. read more

Today was a great day. Dallas was our server this morning. Dallas provided awesome customer service. She did the same to all the customers around us. The customers around were all enjoying the conversations and the meal. The food here is plenty and flavorful. Everyone seemed to be very comfortable and in good spirits. The food is nothing to write home about. I ordered a Gyro and the meat was cooked like Bacon; crispy. It's supposed to be like roast beef. Their soup was tomato Mac. It tasted like chili; I didn't care for it. My husband ordered the grilled chicken dinner. Chicken was way overcooked. We were disappointed. New owners for approximately 9 months. They used to have great fried cod on Wednesday and Friday with a nice beer batter coating. Last week the fish was more of a cornmeal coating used on catfish- not a fan very disappointed. I will be looking for a new fish fry for Friday read more

We've been here in previous years. This visit was on "fishfry" Friday. The place was busy. It was clean. The food appeared to be slow in coming out. I'm guessing they may have been short staffed, but that was never mentioned by staff. We ordered and my clam chowder and my wife's salad came out quickly. Our fish on the other hand took for ever and at best it was just OK. MY wife got her fish baked and it was very under cooked. Probably won't revisit for awhile. Red Mountain Grill - Midwest Caliber Fish Fry. 11/10/23 My wife and I have been enjoying Friday night fish fry's in the Midwest for fifty years since the 70's mostly in Southern Wisconsin. We have been looking for a good one on the east side of the Valley for ten years. Tonight we found one. The Red Mountain Cafe on the northeast corner of Greenfield and University has been around for years and they have had a fish fry. We tried it a few years ago and it was ok but certainly not spectacular. Eight days ago new owners took over, a local family that have all been in the restaurant business for many years and while the goal was not to change too much, they made some changes with the Fish fry-definitely for the better. First and foremost the oldest daughter Hayle fought to upgrade the fish to a better grade of cod. It makes a difference. We started off with clam chowder. It was terrific, lots of clams, not too many potatoes, and excellent flavor. A good starter. The fish was great, light flavorful batter, fried slightly crispy, just right. Served piping hot. It was as good as any we've had back east. Not sure if they offer broiled or baked cod-we didn't ask. That would be a good addition. Poor man's Lobster it is called. The tartar sauce was perfect, just a bit sweet with the right amount of sweet relish and lemon. The coleslaw, a center piece of a good fish fry, was excellent. Creamy but not too much so, a hint of sweetness with a touch of celery seed. We both had baked potatoes. They were good, cooked well, a salty crust on the outside, not too firm, not too mushy. Butter rather than the butter spread would have been preferred. We didn't try the fries. Overall, I'd give this fish fry a nine out of ten. I'm a hard grader and no fish fry can get a ten without German potato pancakes on the fish fry menu. Otherwise everything was perfect. The fish fry is $12.95, a great value and it's all you can eat. Back in Wisconsin it runs from $14.95-19.95 and often not all you can eat any more. Hayle says she hopes to add Walleye soon. That would really put them on the map. Walleye is really hard to find in Arizona but it is the jewel of Midwest fresh water fish. Fried or broiled it can't be beat. The rest of the menu was extensive and a great mix of good old comfort fare. We will be back and look forward to great things from this family as they get through the first hard couple months, always tough for anyone taking on a new business. Service was great. We met and chatted with big sister Hayle, daughter Dallas, and mom Debby. Dad was in the back. Great to see a good family business doing well. read more

since the change in ownership, the service has improved tremendously, and the quality of the food remain consistent. We really enjoyed coming here frequently, however, under the previous ownership, found it to become less friendly and after the change in ownership we will come more often. came into Red Mountain Cafe on Greenfield and University for Breakfast. I was met at the door by friendly faces and was seated quickly. My server greeted me with a smile and a friendly attitude (which i always look for in a place I dine at). I ordered biscuits and gravy, eggs, home fries, and bacon. The food was tasty and I have to say the gravy was some of the best I've had and the home fries were cooked perfectly crispy ( my way). My Coffee cup was never empty and my server was very attentive. I recommend if you're looking for a pleasant atmosphere and great food you make plans to visit. I look forward to trying the rest of the menu. read more
