I had lunch after a round of golf. I ordered your basic chicken tenders and fries. First, I am not a fan of the fries..They soft on the inside, which seemed to be cooked longer. We live just a few blocks from this Grill and stopped in hoping to grab some late breakfast. Unfortunately we were too late for that, so we decided on lunch instead. Birdies is very easy to find, as it is right inside the gate of Fountain of the Sun. We told the security officer that we were checking out the restaurant and were issued a placard to leave on the dash of our car. It only allows admittance for that reason, so there is no opportunity to check out the community. The place was very quiet, but the longer we stayed, the more people came in. No masks are required, or worn by staff. More of a sense of "normal" which I personally appreciate. We both ordered a BLT with fries and a Mimosa, and also asked for some water. The Mimosas were brought out pretty much immediately, which was really nice. A few minutes later our lunch was served. Unfortunately, we never got the water that we asked for, but that is neither here nor there. Lunch was delicious, the staff is super friendly and the atmosphere is very pleasant. Wonderful fish tacos tonight! Our server (Ashley) was ready to take our order right away and checked on us a couple of times after we received our meal. She was always close in case we needed anything. We love the food and it was quiet enough for conversation- but also very clean and respectful is all the customers. We used Birdies Bar and Grill, Fountain of the Sun, for all of the catering for recent our 60th Anniversary party. The food was perfect and so delicious. We had their homemade lasagna and chicken alfredo on Saturday night. And finger foods at our party on Sunday at the AC. I live in the Fountain of the Sun Community and order from Birdies 3 to 5 nights a week. I actually think I'm bothering them when I call at the same time daily to order for the same time delivery almost every day. Their food is excellent and the delivery is usually right on time. Ordered their broasted chicken. Boy was I surprised when I opened the box. First, the food was cold (had it delivered by grubhub) That was not much of a surprise. However, I wonder where they got their chicken from, a mini chicken farm. I have never seen a drumstick and thigh as small as the ones in my order. It was pathetic. Looking for a last minute place for dinner on a Saturday night without a wait, Birdies was close, and had open tables. Our server arrived quickly and took our drink order. I found the menu to be quite limited that looked more like a lunch menu with many sandwich offerings and a few dinner offerings. I love fish & chips but they use Swai that our server said is similar to tilapia, which I don't like, so I passed. Instead, I had the coconut shrimp that came with 2 sides of my choice, so I selected a baked potato and dinner salad. My wife ordered a patty melt with cottage cheese (1 side dish only for sandwiches). My salad was very small, but delicious, as it arrived ice cold, including the plate, as it should! There were 7 jumbo shrimp, but I could hardly taste the coconut. I'm certain these are pre-packaged frozen coconut shrimp so nothing special. The baked potato came loaded with 2 scoops of sour cream so I had to remove half of it, and the potato skin was wet all and not at all crispy. My wife's patty melt was just okay. We splurged and split an ice cream sundae for dessert. With 3 drinks the bill was $50 - not bad - but the food is quite bland and ordinary. read more

Really enjoyed a Friday night dinner here at Birdies Bar & Grill. We had a party of 12, they had our table all set. Was seated as soon as we arrived. Erica was our server, she is very profession, took the table drink orders. Then followed by taking our dinner orders. Food was served hot and very delicious. I had the 4 piece broasted chicken serve with a baked potato, and a dinner salad. There was a duo band playing, music was not loud at all, couples were dancing. Plenty of room with lots of tables. Well here goes: first time here, walked in all excited to try the Friday night fish fry. Waited by the "wait to be seated" sign, and waited, and waited... finally a man (Bartender) yells out "is there a hostess tonight?" Then he comes over and seats us. We ordered the fish fry but I passed on the two sides and asked "instead of a baked potato and coleslaw can I just have cottage cheese? The cottage cheese is listed as a side on the menu. Waitress said of course. So then we waited, and waited and waited, which was surprising because the restaurant was pretty empty at 4:30pm. Fish finally came and for $12.00 the pieces are small and when I got the check I was charged $1.00 for the cottage cheese substitute. I won't be going back. read more

How and why did this place go from 2-stars to 5-stars in 6 months? My first visit verged on disaster, there was hardly anything I could say positively about Birdies. They were on my list of places that specifically featured Friday Fish Fry's and out of dozens of places that I reviewed they ranked dead last for just about everything. After my review was posted the owner, Erycka added a long detailed comment to my review. What impressed me is that she didn't get defensive like some restaurant owners do, nor did she make excuses, she made a commitment to make improvements and changes. And based on that I promised I would give them another chance. Tonight was that night and, oh man, what a difference! From the moment we walked in the door the whole vibe seemed different. Maybe it's my imagination but it seemed the tables weren't as jammed together as last time and it seemed brighter (but not garish). We were greeted in seconds by a hostess with a bubbling personality and by the time we got to our table our server Mimi (also with a 1000 watt personality) was there waiting for us. That rush-hour confusion and tension we experienced on our previous visit was gone, the whole staff seemed more laidback and chill. This time it was made completely clear what was included in the Fish Fry special as compared to the all-you-can-eat fish fry special. This time there was no endless finger-tapping wait for our food to be served, I didn't time it but it seemed like maybe 5 minutes. And it was delivered to our table with the kind of "special" flourish you see in some fancy restaurants ... not just dropped on our table like a dish of pet food. They are using the same dinner plates but that's where the similarity stops - true to Erycka's promise the fish filet was cut into three large thick pieces, the baked potato was larger and brimming with butter and sour cream, and the cole slaw was on the plate with the dinner, not in a little plastic cup. The fish was up there with the best fish fry's anywhere in town and the cole slaw was magnificent, very possibly the best of the best. So kudos and thank you Erycka, you kept your word and you deserve to be re-rated as a true 5-star Fish Fry! And now that the winter crowds have thinned out you can be sure I'll be back often ... there are at least 5 other things on the menu I can't wait to try. read more

Wow! Where did this place come from?! Being pregnant and stuck at home during Covid, I found this place on Post-mates. I've tried all of the items listed below and loved them! Birdies opened recently with this new name and new management. It's located in Fountain of the Sun Country Club. FOS is private but if you tell the guard at the gate where you're going you'll get access. The new management has done a great job of turning a restaurant that was just getting by into a really nice friendly eatery with excellent food. They have a fairly limited menu with appetizers, sandwiches and a few dinners. The Friday fish fry is one of the very best I've had since I moved to Mesa a few years back. Everything I've tried on the menu has been good. This is not what I would call fine dinning but it has friendly, homey atmosphere. One of the owners always stops by the table to check on you and the food. A really nice touch! It makes you feel like they care, The next time we stop (maybe Friday for the fish fry) I'll make sure to take some pictures of the place and the food to post. I wasn't sure if I should give Birdies a 4 Star or 5. But it's way up there for this type of restaurant so they got a five. I just reread this and realized I forgot to say anything about the servers. They've all been quick to greet, attentive and not afraid to help each other out. And about the service, it's been quick even on busy Friday nights. read more

Sorry Birdies, the Fish & Chips on Friday night was just mediocre. Ordered with 2 Gin & tonics during Happy Hour. Both drinks were so watered down you could not taste the Gin. The food at Birdies is decent, the servers are wonderful and so hard working, the patio is great. However...Tony, the manager/owner, is the rudest person I've ever come across in the service industry. He yells at both customers and servers, it's unbelievable. We nearly walked out after he spoke to us but had already ordered drinks and didn't want our server to be stuck with our bill. Our server apologized several times for his behavior.
