I visited this place with high expectations given the brand name etc. I'd say the Ambience was excellent, very welcoming and pleasing to the eyes. The Service was excellent. Our server in particular was fantastic. However the reason I gave it a 3 star is because of quality of food. We ordered the Parker Rolls... this was awesome and the only highlight of the evening. Followed by Chicken Milanese and Veggie Burger ( RK Special apparently). The chicken dish was dry and tasteless, although the sauce was ok. The veggie burger was not fresh, seemed soggy and tasted bland. The fries were not well done and certainly not crispy. Overall, if someone asked me about this restaurant, I would not recommend.

We went in with high expectations and were underwhelmed by the food especially given the price. Service was very good. Fish and chips were pretty good, but the fish placed on top made the chips soggy and there were about 5 on the plate. Beef Wellington was very nice. Sticky toffee pudding was really dense, but maybe that's the way it's supposed to be.

We visited during Chicago Restaurant Week and had an amazing experience. The hostess and our waiter were both welcoming and attentive. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. Great service and great atmosphere, will definitely be back!

Spent some time shopping downtown Naperville and worked up an appetite. Before we headed home, we decided to stop in here for a drink and something to nibble on. We headed straight to the expansive bar and were quickly acknowledged by a friendly bartender. The space is long and narrow, but sophisticated and warm with comfortable seating. Stopping in during a low volume time likely helped our situation. It was about 4pm and no one was really in the restaurant for dinner yet. That changed as we were leaving, definitely starting getting immediately busier around 5. We started by ordering the caeser salad, it was one of the best I've ever had. The pancetta on top was the icing on the cake - so good. We shared the fish and chips and it was massive! Was done to perfection. We had a great experience here and even if I was in my most critical mood, I have no complaints. Now that I know a beef wellington is nearby, I must return. Salted Caramel Espresso martini was WAY better than the OG. Wasn't too sweet and hints of salt/caramel were perfection.

Let me first start by saying that the food was good. I especially liked the crab cake in the appetizer, and the Brussel sprouts were excellent. The reason why I rated it the way I did is because the food was just not as good for the price tag that came with the food. Especially the entrees, which was beef Wellington and the tomato risotto. Also, we went to celebrate our birthday, and I expected with the amount of money that we spent on the food, we'd also get a free dessert added on at the end as well, but they fell short of that expectation too (although I understand they're not obligated to do that). Just to add a few other comments, the server was very nice and prompt, and the restaurant itself was clean and trendy. It just was not extraordinary for spending the amount of money that I did to dine here. The experience and the food both. Just a recommendation at the end for all guests: I'd say if you go for a late lunch and get things on the lunch menu. Keep things to a tighter budget, and you'd enjoy your time there much more than going for dinner and trying things that is signature to Gordon.

We recently returned to Ramsay's Kitchen to give it another try after a somewhat underwhelming first experience. I'm glad we did, because the second visit was a significant improvement across the board. The crab cake was truly exceptional--easily one of the best I've had, and it set a strong tone for the meal. I also opted for the harvest salad this time, which I enjoyed far more than the Caesar from my previous visit; it felt fresh, well-composed, and thoughtfully dressed, although I would have enjoyed a little more goat cheese. The beef Wellington, which had been a disappointment during my first visit, was redeemed. It was cooked properly to a medium rare. We also ordered the lamb shoulder, which was excellent in taste and preparation, though slightly modest in portion size. The truffle fries were stunning--crispy, aromatic, and indulgent in the best way. For dessert, both the apple cheesecake and the chocolate tart were beautifully presented and absolutely delicious, offering a refined and satisfying finish. Ambience was pleasant as well. Overall, I would rate the food a strong 4.5 out of 5. However, what truly elevated this experience was the service and the evident effort from management to deliver a better dining experience. That level of care and attentiveness ultimately brings my overall rating to a full 5 out of 5.

We have been to Burger in Chicago once before and thought it was just ok. For our 18 year anniversary weekend we figured we would try out Kitchen to see if it was worth the hype. When we arrived, our reservation wasn't quite ready so we sat at the bar. $31 for two mocktails that were both kind of meh. We got seated and our server was PHENOMENAL. Like wow she was amazing. Gave us recommendations that, to her credit, we didn't really listen to. We ended up doing the prefix beef wellington menu with sticky wings. Here is our assessment: - Ceasar salad had one predominant flavor - salt. Tons of salt. Needed more dressing and needed more unique flavor. Salt burned our tongues - truly was that much. - Sticky wings were beyond heavy on cilantro. Mango chutney was very spicy. Sticky wing Fresno sauce was good. Cooked perfectly. - Beef Wellington was... fine? Cooked perfectly. Truly perfect. Super tender. Outside of that, salt galore. The mashed potatoes were good, roasted vegetables were great. Pastry was a bit raw inside. Added scallops for $21. I got TWO scallops that were slightly undercooked and just DOUSED in salt. - Sticky toffee cake was fine. I preferred the sticky toffee milkshake from Burger. - Apple butterscotch cheesecake was simply ok. A bit heavy on the cinnamon, very sweet. The expediter was INSANE. Wow. Super talented and directed the kitchen staff flawlessly. Ambience was cool but it was INCREDIBLY loud inside the restaurant. It actually triggered a mild anxiety attack for me. At the end of the day, $360 after cocktails and tip? No lol. Ruth's or Morton's are better quality and $100 less. 3 Arts Club downtown absolutely blows this place away and much cheaper. You're paying for the "Ramsay Experience". We always wanted to try beef wellington. We did. Will not come back. We should have listened to the server who made some solid recommendations. If you go, maybe try a sandwich and the amazing looking bread rolls. Those looked awesome.

Well I'm torn. We are such big fans of Gordon Ramsey! I wanted to give 5 stars but I think we are at 4 stars for this dinner. Main dish - 5 star (crispy salmon) Truffle fries - 5 star Appetizers - Brussels sprouts 3.5 (good flavor but a bit chewy) Cocktails - 2 stars (we went somewhere else to have a cocktail after dinner) I ordered a cocktail first. I didn't care for it but I also don't like to complain. My friend tried it and agreed that I needed something else. She then ordered me a strawberry basil cocktail. Unfortunately, the basil overpowered the other flavors in the drink so I didn't drink that one either. We were both surprised and a little dissappinted by sub par drinks. They used small plain glasses, flavors were not balanced. Maybe our standards were too high but if the Gordon Ramsay name is on it, it should be excellent right? Especially since we know he visited this location recently. We ordered the beet salad as an appetizer and it was good. For entrees we both ordered the crispy skin salmon which was vibrant, fresh and delicious. It was perfectly cooked and the sauce and garnishes added complimentary flavors that really balanced the dish. Yes,chef! The crispy skinned salmon was quite comparable to The lovely Graceful Ordinary's crispy skin salmon though there are different sauces/garnishes. Ramsay's Kitchen is basically an elevated chain restaurant. It's good but it didn't quite stand up to my other favorites in the burbs. To be fair, my favorites are not chain restaurants. This restaurant is excellent for a chain restaurant and we loved the main dish. That is where this restaurant shined.

Came here for restaurant week. Service was good. I had the chicken Milanese (the chicken is fried). I enjoyed it but would try something different next time. The pasta on the menu looked really good but I wanted meat with my meal. The blackberry apple crumble was outstanding. I'd come back again for that soon before it is off the menu.

Service and ambiance were excellent. We were seated at a very nice table with plenty of sunlight and a good view of the street outside. Server was very personable, friendly and knowledgeable. The food could have been just slightly better which is the reason for the 4 stars. I will say the value is there with the lunch special they offer. My English pea soup wasn't something I would normally get but it was really good. My boyfriend enjoyed his mango sticky wings a lot. We both liked our burgers but agreed they weren't the best burgers we've ever had. Sticky toffee pudding tasted like it did at Hells Kitchen so that was fantastic. My boyfriend enjoyed his cheesecake too. Our friend had the Idiot Sandwich and said he didn't feel that was worth the cost. Our server did mention how Gordon has only visited this location maybe a handful of times in the last several years so maybe that's something that could use improvement and the food quality would follow.

Ramsay's Kitchen Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Ramsay's Kitchen

How often does chef Ramsey visit this restaurant?

Not often enough based on my experience there. He'd be disappointed for certain.

How quickly does the beef Wellington run out at dinner?

It truly depends on the day. We had an early 5:00 reservation on a Saturday and didn't have a problem. We have friends that had a 8:00 reservation on a Friday and they ran out.… Read more

    Is the meat halal?

No, but they do have many items on the menu to select from.

    Does Ramsay's Kitchen offer takeout?

No, takeout isn't offered at this time. I wondered, too!

Is there a dress code for dinner service?

No, the dining room is very casual and full service at the bar is also casual!

Can I bring friends from out of town in for the bar on a Friday afternoon without reservations? If so, are there bar hours?

Yes. We stopped in without reservations and after a 10 minute wait a couple of bar stools opened up.

    Are reservations needed for lunch?

Hi Dina, reservations are highly recommended, however, we will accept walk-ins as availability allows. We hope to see you soon!

I read some people exaggerating about the wait times. It does not take long for them to help you. Like Jewel or Mariano's, they're not going to slice your meat in 10 seconds if that's what you're hoping for. Btw the staff was nice. I think the Karen's that complain about them being rude are not very cultured and only know American culture. I ordered the signature pastrami sandwich for $10.99 and it was a very generous portion size. She put a ton of meat in it. The pastrami wasn't tough, it was fresh and soft. Honestly, I had Katz's in NY and this was a really great pastrami sandwich. I also got a large cannoli and meat pierogis. The cannoli was delicious. The pierogis were good but I like to have softer skin. The meat filling was fine but the outside was a bit too tough. I've been to a number of Polish restaurants and they usually make the skins very soft to cut. I would rate these pierogis like a 4. Overall, it's about a 4.5. Prices were very cheap. I got everything for $20. I will definitely return to try more items.

In my experience, this signifies either the place was going to be a shithole to pass up, or it was a serious place to eat, then get out and go somewhere with an atmosphere. Happy to say J's (IMHO) is a serious place to eat. No-nonsense, direct and to the point. When I walked in, all those common chairs I mentioned were stacked upside down on the tables in the way that places do when they are closed. The taciturn fellow who worked there assured me they were indeed open, and explained they had just finish washing the floor. Please dont read any of this as negative-the best Chinese places I've ever been have looked like this-and if you've paid attention to the Travel/Food shows on the TeeVee, the joints in China itself are pretty much the same. On to the food, know this place is a Serious REAL-DEAL Chinese resto. I didn't notice if there were "Occidental" Chinese-type dishes on the carte, (primarily 'cos I wasn't looking for them). What I saw looked yum, and had a hard time making choices, even though I had read the menu multiple times and thought I know what I was going to order in advance. Confessionately, this is a chief feature for my tortured dining self-It's a wonder I even get fed in restaurants (especially the great ethnic ones), due to option anxiety. I zeroed in on "Street Noodles" for starters-wouldn't you? Then went to "Cold Beef Shank" for entreé. The Noodles were fab as was the Shank. The noodles were in a broth. with some hunks of bok choy and ground meat on top. Hearty, still light. The shank had a thin sauce complimenting but not obscuring the beefiness. One bugaboo: the Shank needed a bit of seasoning, and I wasn't going to use soy sauce, as I believed that would have marred the subtle flavors of the Beef. I asked for a salt shaker. It arrived, and I was a little taken back, 'cos it appeared it hadn't been washed in a while, and the salt inside was caked. It occurred to me this condition was present due to the non-use of said shaker. I don't think I've ever asked for a salt shaker in a Chinese resto. I pulled a toothpick out of my "Murse" and broke up the caked NaCl. Applying same to the pieces of Shank, the flavor bloomed and I was a happy boy. Bring some salt packets along when you visit "J's", maybe. The fellow who was waiter and cashier was a "western" fellow, whom I engaged and turned out to be quite an experienced foodie. some pleasant conversation indeed. A lot of healthy and great tasting food for those who find it. The prices aren't that bad for this kind of stuff. Basic looking cafe with a good size seating area. It's actually bigger than it looks. The menu may not be that big but it still has plenty of choices for various diets and preferences. All of it's freshly made. It's about $7 for a smoothie. This has avocados, black beans, cilantro, corn, and salsa, and comes with a chipotle vinaigrette. Among the other options are pizzas if you can believe it. They make these a lot healthier with not as much junk on top. Great food that's full of flavor. It's closed Sundays. There's plenty to get for vegans and vegetarians.
