I have driven past this place probably hundreds of times over the years. We were actually heading to a different restaurant when we noticed Gemato's and decided to try something different. Inside, it looked really clean and thematic. The lighting was perfect. I was pleased to see that they also serve alcohol. The menu is impressive and they have lunch specials, Monday-Thursday. I don't eat pork, so finding beef ribs was awesome! Our order taker was nice and explained the menu and answered any questions that we had. I ordered the half-slab of the beef ribs dinner. It was delicious! Cole slaw and baked beans are excellent! Will be back and definitely recommend!

"Swangy" slab o' ribs.

Gematos has several great things going for it such as the ribs. They are "fall off the bone" tender and very delicious with their own sweet and tangy ("swangy") sauce. The gyros platter is really enough for 2-3 people and it hits all the correct notes for flavor, visual appeal, and mouth feel. The cucumber sauce is the perfect accompaniment. Do not forget the soda. It has the perfect ratio of soda to syrup and free refills. We ate in and it was a comfortable environment. Recommended.

So I ordered a brisket sandwich and a gyro plate first when it came out it was so cold and we Said can we make sure is hot so then we took it back cus we wanted it hot and it came out again it was somewhat hot but the bun to the brisket sandwich was all wrinkley so we new that they reheated it in the microwave or something and my gyro plate was cold and the tamato look liked it was sitting there for days and never again it was so expensive for we can get this trash

Unfortunately this is going to be a NOT SO GREAT REVIEW The meal was HORRIBLE I'm still chewing the rib meat two days later . I brought it the cooks attention and I quote " it is what it is" was his response. It's all good .. CHEERS I feel they've gotten used to sub sub par food and are taking advantage of a great address I'm calling Gordon Ramsey to save that place !

Good ribs, lots of food on our plates. One of our party ordered a corn dog and it was ice cold. We informed them and they made a new corn dog with fries so good on them. My wife ordered the gyro and had a difficult time eating it. All in all a decent place for food

I came to Gemato's to get a quick sandwich with Mrs.E, and we have been looking forward to having a bite to eat here for awhile . She ordered the pulled pork sandwich. She enjoyed! I ordered an Italian beef , wow ! Looked and tasted like a chew toy, meat was rubber ... So surprised, maybe I shouldn't have got a beef in a barbecue joint....Seriously dissatisfied

Half Full Baby Back BBQ Ribs, Baked Potato, garlic bread

When it comes to BBQ in the far west of the Fox Valley the pickings are pretty slim so it's been a real comfort to find a place like Gemato's where I can go even though it's a bit of a hike when I get a hankering for some slabs of smoked ribs, tips, jumbo shrimp or even a gyro. Their menu also seems to be the best value for the prices when compared to any other bbq places. Ordered a half slab with a baked potato and cole slaw and that was all cooked well and tasted good. I love their tangy bbq sauce and the way it pairs well with the flavor of their smoked meats. I also ordered a half bbq chicken and it was a little dry but still pretty good still with the sauce. I might order an extra side of sauce if I were to get chicken again just in case. The restaurant has a local fast casual style so I usually just order takeout but the staff is friendly and the interior is always clean so I probably wouldn't mind enjoying my food inside either. I'm fairly certain that if you call directly in when you place your order you can save a little bit on takeout fees so keep that in mind.

Great Brisket and super friendly staff that is outstanding. Soda-Pop in a can is way over priced but all else is very good.

Scraped 70% of the chicken off that was covered in honey mustard.

Brutal... just spent $38 on a chicken gyro, fries, onion ring, and pulled pork. Then requested side of honey mustard and they ruined the sandwich by adding HM to it. No taiko sauce... wtf? Gross

Ribs, fries, beans, mac and cheese.

I used to love this place when I was younger. Visited with my mom today and was super disappointed in the quality of the food, taste, and the price. We ordered a half rack (came with fries), baked beans, Mac and cheese and two Diet Coke cans. The ribs were fine, small but juicy. The beans and mac and cheese...... Bean cup was tiny (width of the top of the coke can) and tasted exactly like canned beans from the grocery store and the mac and cheese is 100% without a doubt Kraft Mac and cheese. Super disappointed. $30+ for all.

At dinner, we shared the sausage appetizer - so tender and delicious! One of us had the seafood main course, which was huge and filled with so many different types of seafood and fish. We also had the chicken souvlaki, which is amazing. During our brunch, we shared the saganaki and pita -- the saganaki here is not to be missed. We also shared a delicious lamb burger that was tender, juicy and served with unique toppings. The accompanying Greek potatoes were also unique and very tasty. The service is always excellent here. There is also indoor and outdoor seating, and the outdoor seating has beautiful views. Reservations are not always necessary, but much more so on weekends. Love Vasili's!

The restaurant was half empty, with plenty of open seating both inside and outside, and there appeared to be 3-4 servers standing around with very little to do. Despite that, they refused to seat our party of six. I'm sure one of those servers would have appreciated our business and the gratuity that came with it. Unfortunately, it felt like the manager was more interested in proving a point than taking care of customers. Definitely not the kind of service I expected.

I got a chicken bowl and was able to load it up with several toppings. I ordered a lamb and beef gyro for my husband. A warning to olive haters, they put tomatoes, onions, and olives as their standard gyro toppings. I also ordered some chicken kabob sides to take home to the kids. That took a while to cook up, and then it was a little disappointing that they didn't come on skewers. Bolingbrook has other Mediterranean/Greek options, but this might be my new favorite. The staff apologized by indicating that they were short on supplies and out of many things including their house sauce, Covo. Hmm, isnt the name of the restaurant Covo??? Anyways, I asked what was the best day to come here and they indicated that they seem to be short of supplies EVERY DAY! I wonder what the person is thinking who is responsible for ordering the supplies??? I've been here six times......three times I have walked out because the line was too long. It seems like the process for ordering and executing here is too long. The dining area is another story. We had to ask for utensils as the station in the dining area was missing utensils, sauces, napkins, straws, etc. The fountain pop machine had a couple of sodas empty of syrup. I'm wondering if there was any training done here???? It's too bad that this place is executing so bad since the food is actually pretty good. I will have to pass on coming here again since there are many other places located near by that actually have the food ready in an efficient manner!

Our double date crew has a tradition of meeting in Wheaton as the perfect geographic middle ground,…read moreand this time we wanted Greek. Molos did not just deliver, it set a new standard for our little group dinners. We started with the Pikilia tasting plate and built our own trio of spreads. The roasted red pepper hummus was the unanimous table favorite, bold and deeply flavorful. The melitzanosalata was earthy and subtly sweet, a quieter but beautiful complement. The tirokafteri was good on its own but genuinely shone when swirled together with the other two. And the pita. That pita. Pillowy and soft with just enough structure to carry a generous pile of spread without collapsing. Outstanding. The fried zucchini with skordalia was fresh and light tasting despite being fried, a real trick. The potatoes needed a touch more salt to fully wake up but were otherwise solid. The saganaki was a table highlight, lit tableside with a proper OPA moment, gooey and beautifully crisped on top. Think mozzarella stick that went to finishing school. Mains were all exceptional. The filet mignon was wonderfully cooked, the EVO lemon sauce bringing a bright refreshing contrast to the richness of the beef. The pork chops were well charred and seasoned with the same confidence. The chicken ala feta was bright, light, and satisfying all at once. Dessert was a sampler of everything on the menu, all some gorgeous variation of creamy whipped filling, phyllo dough, honey, and nuts. Every single one cohesive and complementary. We tried them all and had no notes. We sat outside on a lovely evening, left with leftovers for days, and paid a price that felt almost unreasonably fair for what we got. Excited to go back and try more of their menu!

The atmosphere is still delightful with little sparkle lights along the windows and plenty of outdoor seating. They've added an Instagram wall ("Ouzo made me do it"). They now have a proper roasted Greek potato on the menu, and a vegetarian moussaka which I'm very excited about. Vegetarian items still not labeled; GF are. For mains, and vegetarians can get the spanakopita; a buttered macaroni with cheese; or combine various tasty dips from the appetizer section. There's also salad which I ignore. The online menu has a few appetizers I didn't see (zucchini with skordalia! Oven-baked lima beans!). Warning, at least where I was sitting: the booths can move (not nailed down) - be careful when you get up. I got the chef's special spanakopita/tiropita and the roasted potato; be very specific when ordering as I was served the special "Molos Greek potato" with garlic yogurt and shredded cheese, which was fine but not what I wanted. The spanakopita and tiropita were tasty, with a good ratio between filo and filling, served on a folded cloth napkin (great idea, even perfect filo-wrapped items can be a bit greasy). Service started a little slow, as there was apparently a big party (they do that and they cater now). It was OK though I'm not sure English was my server's first language. I'll be back for the moussaka, which looks great (someone at the next table ordered it) and will be very precise when ordering my roasted Greek potato. Hopefully with a side of giant lima beans in tomato sauce.

Value (B) It is a bit pricey but not too bad around $35/person for lunch for 2 and an appetizer. They have a small plates menu which might be the lunch menu. Service (A) Excellent friendly and polite service. Got the food out fairly fast. And waitstaff was super nice and respectful. Even packed up the leftovers- did a great job Food (A-) I got the combination plate and it tasted exactly how it did 20 years ago. This is both a positive and a negative. Taste was excellent - especially the lamb, meatballs and sauce over the rice and dolmas. Great portion size also. Will get stuff. Came with potatoes and veggies. On the negative it tasted very heavy. I was expecting it to be "lighter". Not sure I am describing it correctly. I am going to order it again as it's excellent but I think I am eating a ton of butter and or oil. Maybe I am not but something gave it the heavy feel. Also with bread service - I appreciate they provide it but feels very 90s. Thr bread was okay and the butter was the small little packages of butter. So I really do like this place and am being overly critical so I would strongly recommend going for a safe bet Greek place. My recommendations for them 1. Too many options on the menu - need to skinny it down 2. Higher quality bread and butter 3. An actual simple lunch menu. Would have loved a combination plate lunch portion for $16.99 vs a dinner portion at $25.99

Parking can be a bit hit-or-miss - it's a lousy parcel. On the "non-good" side - this appears NOT to be a Family Operated business. It acts like a chain, which becomes more-evident the closer to Closing Time you get. We've been refused service 20 minutes ahead of Closing, because they insisted we'd "be longer in our seats" than they would. We then sat in the car, eating, as we watched them take 45+ minutes to close up. My wif e refuses to return, for that reason. I looked at it from their point of view, and I understand, if not agree. My other "issue" was when I ordered a salad with (what the menu said was) oil & vinegar dressing. When served to me, the salad was SMOTHERED in some form of creamy white ooze. I'm horrifically lactose intolerant; some types of cream concoctions can kill me in a half hour. They were very kind, and changed the salad out for me. In Greece, you can easily get a souvlaki for 3-5 E and the portions are big. This restaurant definitely rips you off with the price. The pork meat is slightly fatty but mostly on the tough side. Wow! This place REALLY surprised us…read more We were looking for something different from the usual burgers, pizza, and tacos routine after my girlfriend mentioned she'd been craving gyros. Naturally, I started searching for places nearby, and while there was no shortage of options, Nicky's immediately stood out. Their photos looked incredibly well presented, with gyro meat piled high and genuinely generous portions. When we arrived just before 7 PM, the parking lot was nearly full, and after our experience, I can absolutely see why. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. They could tell it was our first visit and happily walked us through the menu, answering every question with genuine warmth and patience. The food itself was excellent. Everything came out piping hot, fresh, and full of flavor. The gyro meat was tender without being overly fatty or dry. The hand-cut fries were especially impressive, perfectly crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and seasoned just right. The onion rings and mozzarella sticks were equally well executed. The real showstopper, though, was the imported Greek baklava. I've had baklava from many different regions and styles over the years, and this was easily some of the best I've ever had. Rich, syrupy, incredibly flavorful, with a heavier note of cinnamon layered throughout that made it truly stand out. The menu is expansive, covering all the classic greasy spoon favorites you'd hope for, and the restaurant itself was clean, bright, and bustling with people clearly enjoying themselves. Near the end of our meal, the same staff member who helped us at the counter came by to check on us and ask if we needed anything else, which was a really nice touch. She also mentioned this is the original family-owned location, and honestly, that care and pride really shows. Overall, a fantastic first experience, and we're very glad we decided to stop in. We'll definitely be back soon to try more of the menu.

That streak was not broken on our recent visit. If there are Greeks on the premises, and Gyros is on the bill, I'm relatively assured of a good feed, and the Gyros sandwich here was spot on. Served with good crunchy fries, it hit the spot. I saw they had Spanakatiropita (Spinach-Cheese Pie) on the menu and had to try it. It, too was yummy. Surprised to find a snack-sized Greek Salad alongside the pie with a nosh of good Feta. Bonus! Naperville is a lot closer than Halsted Street! Throwing 4 for decent Bread & Circuses. A solid bet for a fine lunch/dinner. Eat here when you can!
