Wow! This place REALLY surprised us. We were looking for something different from the usual burgers, pizza, and tacos routine after my girlfriend mentioned she'd been craving gyros. Naturally, I started searching for places nearby, and while there was no shortage of options, Nicky's immediately stood out. Their photos looked incredibly well presented, with gyro meat piled high and genuinely generous portions. When we arrived just before 7 PM, the parking lot was nearly full, and after our experience, I can absolutely see why. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. They could tell it was our first visit and happily walked us through the menu, answering every question with genuine warmth and patience. The food itself was excellent. Everything came out piping hot, fresh, and full of flavor. The gyro meat was tender without being overly fatty or dry. The hand-cut fries were especially impressive, perfectly crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and seasoned just right. The onion rings and mozzarella sticks were equally well executed. The real showstopper, though, was the imported Greek baklava. I've had baklava from many different regions and styles over the years, and this was easily some of the best I've ever had. Rich, syrupy, incredibly flavorful, with a heavier note of cinnamon layered throughout that made it truly stand out. The menu is expansive, covering all the classic greasy spoon favorites you'd hope for, and the restaurant itself was clean, bright, and bustling with people clearly enjoying themselves. Near the end of our meal, the same staff member who helped us at the counter came by to check on us and ask if we needed anything else, which was a really nice touch. She also mentioned this is the original family-owned location, and honestly, that care and pride really shows. Overall, a fantastic first experience, and we're very glad we decided to stop in. The best gyro I've ever had! This family owned business has been around since 1994. There's a reason it's been open for so long and I highly recommend you go in and find out why. My husband and I stopped in for a late lunch, 230pm, and it was consistently full of customers dining in and carrying out. This casual spot is kept clean and can seat maybe 40-50 people. They also have an outdoor area for when the weather permits. Staff members were friendly and our food took about 5-10 minutes. We were in and out within an hour. Back to the gyro.. OH MAH GOODNESS! The meat is seasoned and cooked to perfection. It's tender and full of flavor. The tzatziki sauce they use is also very delicious. The pita brings it all together. All the components of this sandwich is of high quality and HEAVENLY. The portion is generous with very fair pricing. I tried the mozzarella sticks which were better than your standard moz sticks. Nicky's has quickly become one of our go-to dinner spots! From the Greek chicken salad to the gyro plates, bowls, and even the kids menu, everything is always made fresh and absolutely delicious. We typically order to-go, and every time the food is consistent, flavorful, and convenient. The staff is always so friendly and welcoming, which makes the experience even better. Dean is truly amazing -- one time something was accidentally left out of our to-go order, and he personally drove it over to us. That level of care and customer service is so rare and so appreciated. The baklava is also a must-try. It is so delicious and the perfect small dessert after a meal. I would definitely recommend ordering ahead on weekends, especially during dinner time, because they do get a dinner rush -- which makes sense because the food is that good! Fantastic little place! We were visiting the area and looking for something to eat, so after quickly reading some reviews we decided to drop in here. So glad we did! It was busy but things moved quickly. Our counter attendant was patient, friendly, and helpful as it was our first time. DH ordered the beef sandwich combo, I opted for the pork souvlaki combo since none of the Greek joints where we live serve souvlaki, which is a favorite of mine. I overheard several people placing orders for a wild rice soup. We didn't order one but it seemed popular! Our order was called pretty quickly. Everything was hot, fresh, and delicious. We even took a chicken souvlaki to-go for a family member. The dining area was clean and comfortable. We people watched while waiting for our order, and everyone seemed to be enjoying their meals. Someone was digging into a whole roasted chicken with great enthusiasm. That looked really good! A lot of people were eating soup- not sure if they have more than one kind or if it was the wild rice we overheard, but a lot of people were enjoying it on that chilly and damp day. Have gone to Nicky's for years. Still the best fries in Naperville. However, since around December of 2025, the gyro meat seems to have changed. It is a different consistency, dry and almost no spice... it's just not as good. I'm always hearing everybody rave about this place so I happened to be in the area today and I figured let's stop there. Of course I've never been there and they have a pretty expensive menu. I felt extremely rushed. No one seemed interested and really customer service at all. The guy working behind the counter is a big grouch and I'll get to that later. How bad can a hotdog joint be? so we got a bowl of soup with bread (which was almost 6 dollars?!) and a grilled cheese with fries and coleslaw the fries were pretty disgusting, pretty clearly they were frozen types of fries. The grilled cheese and coleslaw were actually good. I got a drink (which I normally don't get a drink when I'm out because you can never get a refill or they give you crap about it.) So I did finish the first drink and when I bought the drink, I asked if there were refills they said yes I went up for a refill and I always ask for extra ice so there's hardly any drink in there on the way out. I wanted to top my drink off, so it was like maybe an eighth of the glass Because I had to go back to work and I wanted something to drink The cranky guy behind the counter said "you have one more refill coming, OK" and I said that's OK. I'm leaving anyway and this is just a top off. It's not even a full refill. Three dollars. And honestly, I did not drink anywhere near three dollars worth of tea not to mention they're $.85 surcharge sign so I paid cash which that was all the cash I had on me because I never carry cash. Back to the gentleman at the counter, This is the same gentleman that when I walked in the minute I stepped in the door said can I help you and I said I've never been here. Can I look at the menu and he just walked away And knowing that I'm a first-time customer way to impress somebody with the nasty drink comment. I'm sure that that three cents of iced tea that I got was worth you never having a customer come back again. Before COVID we enjoyed dining inside and viewing one of their many TVs. Ordering is easy, grab a seat and wait for your number to be called. I've ordered from here and never been disappointed. Tonight i chose to order and pick up to take home. It's 5 minutes from my house so it's still hot when i get home. The ribs are melt in your mouth and falls off the bones. So mouth watering and strongly suggest you order them. I spilt the slab with my wife along with my two sides. Tonight I chose the baked potato that was made to perfection. They sent butter and sour cream and that's all I needed. I also got the Cole slaw which was creamy and very tasty. I think they could have been more refrigerated but was still extremely good. The bread was your basic toasted bread so didn't eat much of that with the delicious tasty dinner. I grew up in Chicago in the '60s and don't get back all that often. When I do, I always stop someplace for a hotdog and an Italian beef in an attempt to recapture my youth. My wife was with me on this visit and is allergic to gluten. I picked this place because they advertise gluten-free buns. Sadly, when we got there, they told us that it was only their hamburger buns. Anyway, I'll leave it for her to review her meal. For my part, it was a mixed bag. The hotdog was OK. Not the worst Chicago dog I've had and far from the best. The Italian beef was disgusting. It had a chemical taste and was weirdly too hot, like it had been put in a microwave for too long rather than allowed to simmer in "juice." I went to dinner with a friend, walked in at 7:45. Got our food at about a little before 8:00. They close at 8:30. Ordered a gyro plate and salad. Nothing major. As I'm eating in there the bus boy starts loudly flipping chairs, making us feel uncomfortable with loud chairs banging, as if we aren't welcome to be eating there by that point. Then this jag bag manager apparently named Jimmy tells the same bus boy to come over to our table and ask to take the ketchup bottle. As we are STILL USING it for our french fries, way to make us feel even more uncomfortable? And while I am dining there as if I can't use the ketchup because you're in a rush to literally close and lock the doors even before your scheduled closing time? It's insanely rude. So I tell the busboy to tell the rude, not hospitable manager to come over and ask for it himself. All while we audibly hear the loud obnoxious manager complaining by proxy about customers being there late eating a meal. My friend proceeds to order a Greek burger to go, the same jerk gives her attitude while she's ordering and doesn't even say thank you or have a nice night as we're leaving. Absolutely rude establishment. Next time I'll just go to Gematos down the street next time where food is just as good, if not better, and owner / staff is way friendlier and gracious. And I've dined there many times before and usually it's really nice employees working at the front. A younger gentleman and lady and a nicer younger kid working the register. But this guy this evening was totally rude. Update: same owner creepily tracked me down and stalked me on Facebook as opposed to responding on proper channels here on Yelp and harassed me in a personal message telling me he wasn't rude.
