Driving up I already loved the vibe there's lots of outdoor picnic table seating and string lights next to their big sign and I noticed how clean all the tables were. Stepping inside we started checking out the menu there were so many items that sounded amazing! The owner William was in and he was super friendly and helpful explained the menu all the combo deals and great recommendations. I had to go with the boss beef (a delicious Italian beef sandwich dipped and topped with their flavorful spicy giardiniera) it comes with a generous pile of fries which we opted out of since we also ordered a dawgz combo which includes two signature dawgz fries and a drink. Again went with the recs and was not disappointed! I love this place everyone has as so fun and had a great energy! I'll definitely stop again when I'm back in town

Highlights: & Came for Chicago hot dogs, and Boss Dawgz became my new go-to! & Amazing, amazing service, easily top ten service I received all year (2024) & Family fun ambiance Ambiance/Service: A few weeks before Christmas, it was all decorated. With the kids drawings on display, it had a vibe like someone invited me to their home. Sure it's a place of business and i paid money for the food, though the vibe of the place is a familiar hospitality. When I was there, a lady walked in and as soon as she was in the doorway, the owner greeted her by name and asked if she wanted her usual (she did). Food: & Das Brat - so good! It's advertised as "char-grilled" and it was definitely charred. This is on me, though I should have asked for it to be less charred. 4/5 & Maxwell Street Polish - same char-grilled comment as for Das Brat, and overall so delicious. I had been waiting six months for a proper polish sausage and this was so worth the wait! 4/5 & Corn dog - this was one of the rotating items on the menu, though I'd have to say this was a disappointment. Compared to the Boss Classic or the Boss Dawg, it was so small and dry. Skip the corn dog and get a Boss Classic. 1/5 & Boss Classic - it's like a Chicago dog but with added personality and creativity. The Mayo is a great addition. Loved this one! 5/5 & We also got a Old Chicago or Chicago Style. Whichever it was, it was awesome! 5/5

Vegetarian option was perfect. Satisfied my Hot Dog craving. Thanks Boss!

The owner works the counter! Excellent fries which are handcut and double fried. Genuine Maxwell Street Polish dogs. Indoor and outdoor seating. Great place to bring kids. Clean bathroom. Reasonable prices. Spicy chili. So good.

First time at Boss Dawgs and impressed by the staff! The gentleman that took and made my order was super cool and stayed the chili and buns are made in house! I ordered the Chili Boss hot dog and it was great! The chili had lots of flavor and had a kick to it. The bun was so soft and the homemade French fries that came with the hot dog were delicious! I'll be back to try more!

Boss Dawgz is the perfect place to go enjoy over 20 different types of hotdog! You can either take a single dawg or do a combo of two. They have indoor and outdoor seating which is perfect on a pleasant day. I got the week special which was a Caribbean Boss Dawg. Boss dawg with bacon and charred pineapple! The combo comes with large fries and a drink. Fries are well seasoned and better than fast food restaurant standards. On a side note they have a fun activity to keep the kids engaged. A drawing of the hotdog which kids can color into based on their liking.

This place is awesome. Workers/cooks are super friendly and outgoing and explain all the hotdogs on the menu. Hotdogs are tasty and it's their own recipe for the dogs and buns I'm pretty sure. Was here on a Monday during lunch and it was fairly crowded. I'll be back.

I got the NWB burger, and struggled to fit it in my mouth it was so big. The pork belly was unnecessary honestly, and next time, I'd order it and ask for this to not be included. We also enjoyed a couple of cocktails, and they were some of the best old fashioneds I've had outside of Kentucky along the bourbon trail. My only critique: the music was exclusively bro country. I wish they'd play better music.

We made a reservation, too. Kindred is a unique place in that it's in a strip mall and you enter part of the mall to get to the front entrance of Kindred. We walked in and there was nobody at the front desk but a sign that said Seat Yourself. We walk into the bar (b/c that was all we saw) and the bartender gives us the option of a table in the corner or a table right next to the bathroom. We noticed tables right by the window that were open, but those apparently weren't available. We took the corner. We sat and a waitress brought us menus. I asked about the Restaurant Week. She said she knew it was going on, but didn't know what the options were. She was very nice about it, but I had to prod her to find a menu for it. She came back a few minutes later for our drink order and I asked again for the Restaurant Week menu and she again alluded to not knowing what it was. I dropped it but if your restaurant is offering it - your staff should know what is on it and should promote it. Drinks...I ordered a martini - my husband said "diet coke or coke zero." She said - we don't have that. He then said "diet pepsi". She said - they have RC Cola Zero. My husband and I look at each other and we're like "ugh.". Only having RC as your pop of choice is an indicator to us of cheapness/not great food. Skip ahead - another couple comes into the bar at that point and the bartender offers the couple the table by the bathroom. The couple pointed to the tables by the window and I think the bartender said they were reserved. The couple said they had a reservation tonight. I couldn't catch the rest, but they ending up sitting at the table by the restroom. Very confusing. Then - it all made sense - a family of 5 came into the bar...(b/c still no person at the front desk and the seat yourself sign) - said they had a reservation and all of a sudden, someone appears and seats them in a completely different room. Apparently - there is a dining room that we all should have been sitting in. But - having no person at the front desk, a sign that says seat yourself, having an entrance in a strip mall side, and the bartender not explaining anything - was a problem. Skip ahead. Food - we got fried pickles (which were extremely salty) , STK Wrap (just okay), and Garlic Chicken bowl (little garlic). Nothing outstanding and nothing that would warrant us coming back.

The curry wurst was the bomb but needed more sauce. The sauce was heavenly though. The potato pancakes great and flavorful. The cabbage rolls tasty. The liver soup not my favorite only because it had a liver taste--which if you like, then you'll like it. The saurkraut and purple cabbage the best Ive ever tasted and worth getting. The spetzel so-so, not much flavor. Son liked it though. The bread dumplings ok. More like white bread. The big pork shank that is the prize-it was good but not as stellar as we thought it would be. And we did make sure to order it crispy like it said to and it wasn't. Looked like it was a little browned but even my young son said the fat isn't rendered. I think it would have been a lot better if it had been crispy like in other pictures on here. Disappointed. It's like $35. Not cheap. The beef with sauce (sauerbraten) was good, the sauce great, the beef ok. The special that was going on, the beef roulade. Nobody liked it at all. The stuff just didn't taste good together in it. Overall, it was a good experience. The waitress Rosie was amazing, most of the food was great to awesome. The ambiance was German and cozy. Our favorites: the curry wurst sauce, the saurkraut and red cabbage and the stuffed cabbage rolls.

We arrived on a Friday night just before 9:00 PM and had no trouble finding street parking--always a win. We were greeted by our waitress, Jennifer, who was absolutely amazing. She let us know about their late-night perk: half-price small plates and select drinks on Fridays and Saturdays from 9 PM until close, which is such a great incentive for heading out later in the evening. Jennifer was attentive without being intrusive--our water glasses were always full, she checked in after every course, and her recommendations for both food and drinks were spot-on. We started with a Mad Rose for V and a Chameleon for me. Both cocktails were delicious, and after finishing his Mad Rose, V definitely felt the celebratory spirit kicking in. For appetizers, we shared the Vietnamese Summer Rolls and Sweet Chili Calamari. The summer rolls were light, fresh, and nicely accented with mint. The calamari was sweet with a surprisingly spicy finish--delicious, though the heat was just a bit much for V. I'd happily order both again. For my main course, I had the Wagyu Beef Stroganoff, and wow--hands down the best stroganoff I've ever had. The beef was incredibly tender, and the sauce was perfectly balanced with the noodles. It even paired beautifully with my Chameleon, with subtle lemon notes that complemented each other surprisingly well. V ordered the Tomahawk Pork Chop, cooked medium well and absolutely perfect. He loved every bite. It came with a risotto that he enjoyed, even if it wasn't the standout of the dish. Dessert sealed the deal. We finished with Sandy's White Wine Cake--which reminded me of a carrot cake in the best way--and the Banana Cream Pie, which was easily the best banana cream pie I've ever had. Truly a WOW moment. Between the excellent food, thoughtful service, and great late-night specials, Entourage made V's birthday celebration one to remember. We'll definitely be back. Tons of restaurants, tons of nightlife, ice cream shops, etc! We tried Entourage. We were sat outside and it was beautiful. Nice weather, prompt service, and good food. We were sat immediately and drinks were ordered right away. Our server had great communication and attentiveness. Unfortunately, I don't remember the names of the drinks but they both were good. One was a raspberry drink special, and mine was like a smoked old fashion. Both were fantastic. For dinner we ordered calamari and deviled eggs. The devil eggs were good but the bacon and maple syrup overpowered the egg flavor. They were still tasty. The calamari... omg! This calamari has a different twist and it is some of the most phenomenal calamari I have ever had. The reading is crispy but not over cooked. The sauce is not generic marinara sauce. It's a basil oil with chili sauce mixed. Wow!!!! You gotta try it. For dinner, we ordered a side of Brussels sprouts. And Long Island strip wagyu and stone axe wagyu. 2 of us ordered medium rare and my wife selected medium. All three were slightly overcooked. My wife wanted to send hers back and they absolutely did everything to make it right. And they were also fast at doing so. The Brussels spouts were very good. Crispy, bacon, mmmmm. THE USUAL SUSPECTS…read more This dive bar in Lisle is a haven for townies, which is certainly a vibe. Maple Ave Pub is, unsurprisingly, on Maple Ave just west of Route 53 in the western suburbs of Chicago. I'd estimate I've stopped here close to a dozen times, although a handful of those instances I neglected to check-in on Yelp for fear of my wife seeing it ("I thought you were coming straight home from work....") An older woman's been behind the counter seemingly every time, taking drink orders and making small talk. She's friendly--moreso with the locals than with me--and I'll occasionally get called 'hun', 'sweetie', etc, which is endearing. I got way better service from the hot tattooed barkeeps at Brauer House in Lombard, however. To be perfectly honest, I've never eaten anything here. The wings look like they might pass muster, though there's a few items that raise an eyebrow (clam chowder at a dive bar? thanks, I'll pass). Possum Pub in Melrose Park had surprisingly good food, and it was a major dive, so perhaps I ought to give the grub here a shot sometime. They have several pool tables, a Big Buck Hunter, Golden Tee, dart board, boxing machine, and pair of pinball machines; as of 6/19/24 they've got a Star Trek premium (Stern, 2013) and JAWS (Stern, 2024). In the past they had Oktoberfest (American Pinball, 2018), Fish Tales (Williams, 1992), and a stunning Circus Voltaire (Bally, 1997). Last week, the A/C wasn't working so this place was SWELTERING on one of the hottest days of the year. Normally I stick around for a couple pints and 2-3 games of pinball, but it was so toasty inside (worse than outside) I only played 1 game and skipped the beer completely. There were no fans on, either. * TL;DR * Dive bars are all well and good, but maybe it's time I found a new spot to hit up for a cheap domestic pint. Over the years I've gotten a handful of looks that can be described as quizzical at best, and dirty at worst. I've been ignored by the bartender numerous times--with cash in hand, mind you--while she's chatting away with regulars, as I'm standing there absolutely parched. I want to like Maple Ave Pub, but the feeling doesn't seem mutual. If it weren't for the pinball tables, I probably wouldn't return.
