Boston Filler
Nick P.

I don't usually trust 1-2 star reviews for two reasons. One is because all they do is write 1-2 stars for almost every establishment. Right there is a loss of credibility. The second reason is because they can't even write a proper review without using at least 5-10 exclamation points. Need I say more? With that said, Doggie Diner provides decent food with generous portions for reasonable prices. Service was good, the kids were very attentive and they made your food fresh. Tables were clean, they are doing some renovations. The casino games were a bit out of place. Parking lot was too dark, it could use more lighting. I almost missed the turn. Garlic bread was decent. It was crunchy but could be softer in the middle. French fries were tasty with the cheese sauce. They give you more than enough sauce which was good. I had the Boston filler - gyro meat and Italian sausage. Great tasting sandwich with plenty of meat. Maxwell Polish is another recommended choice. Overall, good value for what you pay for.

Food is solid - hot dog topped however you like it and the fries were delicious and generously portioned! For sure enough for 2. We got the special which was two dogs, fries and a drink for 7.50. They have a nice sized menu. All the guys behind the counter were super friendly and helpful. The only thing that keeps this from a five star were the dirty the floors and tables.

Delicious food, cozy interior, welcoming staff. Whats not to like from a quaint spot like this. Recommend the gyros, wraps, and ribs.

My cardiologist is probably going to be disappointed that I found this place. Lol…read more This is exactly the kind of local mom-and-pop spot I love. It's old school, no frills, and not trying to be some polished restaurant experience. You walk in, order at the counter, grab one of the barstools, and watch your food get made right in front of you. I got the gyro plate with fries and the portion was HUGE. Seriously, they do not mess around with the portions here. The food was fresh, really good, and honestly an incredible value for what you get. My only regret was not asking for extra tzatziki because there was a whole lot of gyro happening on that plate. If you're looking for great food, big portions, and a classic neighborhood spot without all the bells and whistles, this is definitely worth stopping by. It's all about the food here, and they do that part really well. I'll definitely be back, assuming my cardiologist approves.

The sun stretched across the pavement like it had personally returned to remind everyone what happiness felt like. The air was crisp, cinematic almost. I had just finished demolishing a bowl at Chipotle when, in the distance, glowing like a beacon of hope to hungry travelers, I spotted the legendary Scooby's sign. Curiosity took over immediately. I wandered into the establishment in search of Scooby snacks. The atmosphere was charming, nostalgic, and wonderfully chaotic in the best way possible. I asked for a paper menu and a few recommendations for the next time I stopped by. Little did I know destiny would return me there in less than 24 hours. The previous night had been a reckless adventure through the city. Loud music, shots, questionable decisions, the usual. The next morning I awoke slightly dehydrated but not hungover because, quite frankly, I am built different. Starving and operating purely on instinct, I prayed Scooby's would be open. Miraculously, it was. As I approached the restaurant, I could hear the passionate echo of a woman enthusiastically yelling into a microphone at what appeared to be a nearby high school graduation ceremony. I stepped inside and was greeted by a smile that honestly made it difficult to remember I came there for food. I asked for a recommendation and was directed toward the gyro meal with jalapeños on the side. What arrived before me was not merely a gyro. It was a colossal, magnificent monument to human achievement. The thing was enormous. Overflowing with flavor, perfectly seasoned meat, fresh toppings, warm pita, and enough character to deserve its own Netflix special. I have eaten gyros from many places, including spots run by Greeks themselves, and somehow this glorious beast stood above them all. The interior of the restaurant felt oddly familiar, almost like a real-life Krusty Krab tucked away in the suburbs. Naturally, I felt spiritually obligated to order what could only be described as a Krabby Patty equivalent. The hamburger arrived beautifully grilled, juicy, smoky, and crafted with the kind of precision reserved for aircraft engineering. Scooby's is not just a restaurant. It is an experience. A beautiful fever dream fueled by hunger, nostalgia, jalapeños, and exceptional customer service.

The food here never disappoints. Burgers, hot dogs, and the chicken gyros are so good! The prices…read morecan stack up quickly for a burger joint, but the food is good.

Wow! This place REALLY surprised us…read more We were looking for something different from the usual burgers, pizza, and tacos routine after my girlfriend mentioned she'd been craving gyros. Naturally, I started searching for places nearby, and while there was no shortage of options, Nicky's immediately stood out. Their photos looked incredibly well presented, with gyro meat piled high and genuinely generous portions. When we arrived just before 7 PM, the parking lot was nearly full, and after our experience, I can absolutely see why. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. They could tell it was our first visit and happily walked us through the menu, answering every question with genuine warmth and patience. The food itself was excellent. Everything came out piping hot, fresh, and full of flavor. The gyro meat was tender without being overly fatty or dry. The hand-cut fries were especially impressive, perfectly crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and seasoned just right. The onion rings and mozzarella sticks were equally well executed. The real showstopper, though, was the imported Greek baklava. I've had baklava from many different regions and styles over the years, and this was easily some of the best I've ever had. Rich, syrupy, incredibly flavorful, with a heavier note of cinnamon layered throughout that made it truly stand out. The menu is expansive, covering all the classic greasy spoon favorites you'd hope for, and the restaurant itself was clean, bright, and bustling with people clearly enjoying themselves. Near the end of our meal, the same staff member who helped us at the counter came by to check on us and ask if we needed anything else, which was a really nice touch. She also mentioned this is the original family-owned location, and honestly, that care and pride really shows. Overall, a fantastic first experience, and we're very glad we decided to stop in. We'll definitely be back soon to try more of the menu.

That being said, there must be some magic in the "Nick" name, 'cos this place is a top-notch Chicago-Greek Fast Food resto as well. It's a clean, inviting room, with a great menu. They're not re-inventing the wheel here, but they are spinning some fine stuff. Wife was a regular here when she was toiling for Attorneys in downtown Naperville, and always enjoyed their burgers. That streak was not broken on our recent visit. If there are Greeks on the premises, and Gyros is on the bill, I'm relatively assured of a good feed, and the Gyros sandwich here was spot on. Served with good crunchy fries, it hit the spot. I saw they had Spanakatiropita (Spinach-Cheese Pie) on the menu and had to try it. It, too was yummy. Surprised to find a snack-sized Greek Salad alongside the pie with a nosh of good Feta. Bonus! Naperville is a lot closer than Halsted Street! Throwing 4 for decent Bread & Circuses. A solid bet for a fine lunch/dinner. Eat here when you can!
