This used to be a regular Sushi joint for me, then it became Wayback and years of driving past it. I had read a review that put it in the top ten of fast-food burgers. That was the sound of a gauntlet being thrown down, so we had to go. Truth was spoken! Delicious, well-seasoned burgers that tasted like good beef. Great Fries, the wife said, and she should know-she's a potato aficionado. I had "tater tots" that were tot-licious. Neither Wife nor I like these new-age burgers that remind me of the outrageous Bloody Marys you get in Vegas with myriad toppings that make EATING the damn burger an adventure in balance and trying not to foul the clothes you are wearing. We ordered ours with de rigueur toppings (Lettuce, tomatoe, onions, mustard & Ketchup. Wife gets the foliage plus Mayo). They hit the spot!! But there was talk of some special sauces, and we got some on the side to dip our fries (and tots) in. All were great, especially the Wayback sauce. Good throw in the Coke bubbler. The fried pickles were very greasy, like the oil wasn't hot enough. The breading was also pretty thick. The burgers were so heavily sauced that they were hard to hold. Every new place we try always has the possibility of being that great place only locals know about or the new kid on the block knocking it out of the park. Of course there is a chance of trying a new place and being disappointed, that has happened plenty of times. This morning I got a picture of a burger from Wayback Burgers on Facebook. It looked real good and Darien is about a 30 minute drive from my home. I picked up my brother and looked at it as an adventure. This is a burger place in a strip mall. No drive-thru but they do have outdoor seating. The menu features their 6 signature burgers you also have the option to build your own from a 7 proteins and a variety of cheeses, sauces, and toppings. We went with the A-1 Steakhouse burger and the Bourbon Bacon burger. The A-1 Steakhouse burger was mighty tasty. I thought the Bourbon Bacon burger was the real hit. The bourbon mustard brought a tangy flavor that was not overpowering the burger or the bacon. The bacon was thick and substantial not Burger King bacon. I got the tatter tots but my friend got cheese curds and they were crispy and savory. I asked the counter person if they had WiFi , he did not know but the owner shortly appeared and gave me the password and made sure I got connected. It appreciated him going above and beyond. The interior had modern industrial feel. They had Coca-Cola products but also four lemonades. This place is definitely worth a trip back to try more options on their menu. If you guys know me, I love Wayback. This trip did not disappoint me. I tried the new mint chocolate chip shake and I would give it a 9 out of 10. One point got deducted because there were no chocolate chips on the whipped cream. I got the cheesy burger and it was so so so so so so so so so scrumptious. The cheesy burger will never disappoint me. They changed the cheese curds, but they are still very good. The mint chocolate chip shake was a definite win. I wish they could keep this forever. The menu was awesome, great choices to choose from and something for everyone. The customer service was stellar and super friendly. Didn't mean to be snippy with the red haired boy with glasses but when a customer asks about a food allergy and the response is, "well it has breading so probaly....with a shoulder shrug and not let me go check miss....mama bear comes out. The other shorter African American boy was super helpful and nice! So, thank you for picking up the slack! Burgers were super moist and juicy. The only downside was that the rodeo burger had 2 of the tiniest onion rings I have ever seen. But all and all the burgers were thin, melty cheese, and a bit of greasy that made it side down easily. Updated review: I highly recommend the Philly Cheese steak here! Sure, it's not authentic like the ones in Philly, but it's bigger and juicy if you like that kind of stuff. Drips of grease and fat falling from your face as you indulge in this mouth-watering sub! The shakes are incredible here as well. My husband is a burger aficionado so we had to come check out our only Wayback in the area. We were not disappointed. The burgers were fresh and hot and just barely pressed together so the juices were in between every morsel. I had the ghost pepper burger and it was nearly perfect for me. I thought the sauce and additions were great but the cheddar cheese was a bit distracting. Pepper jack would work better I think. The classic was perfect though. Service was solid with the cashier willing to offer up good advice about the menu. It was a quiet early evening for us and the outdoor seating on a day like this was a plus. I had never heard of Wayback until I stumbled upon it whilst waiting at the Apple store. There were a decent amount of customers and so I thought this was a good thing. There were two vegetarian items available, the Gardenburger as well as the Impossible. I figured I would go with the cheaper $6.79 Gardenburger. I appreciated the fact you have many toppings to add, which are included. This includes choice of cheese and sauce as well as grilled onions, raw onions, mushrooms, jalapenos, pickles, tomatoes, and lettuce. I added them all! It took a few minutes to order as the employee who takes orders was also helping cook in the back. Were they that short? This concerned me as I want to be sure gloves are changed constantly from the register to the food. All of the employees were very kind and helpful, though. I was informed there would be at least a 15 minute wait. I decided to wait for my Gardenburger and Cajun Tots. It took a bit longer than 15, but the employees were apologetic. I could tell they were stressed because of being short staffed. I understand it happens, though. I got my order to go and when I took out my sandwich the wrapping was ripped. That is not appealing, but I still dove in. As others mentioned, it tasted like something I could make at home. There really was no oomph to the sandwich other than the kick of the jalapenos. I would have preferred the ingredients to be a bit heavier, also. The real stars of the show were the Cajun Tots. They were cooked fresh and had an amazing flavor. I would definitely return just for those little guys. A decent portion for $3.19. I am still debating if the cost was worth it. Perhaps I should try the Impossible? It was obvious she was getting easily frustrated when taking our order because she repeatedly said "WAIT" and put her hand up. I simply walked away while my fiancé finished putting in the order.
